what's up guys welcome back to the channel today we've got a special treat for you we're actually going to be touring a barndominium just in the north side of Houston Texas so I hope you guys enjoy this it's gonna be a special treat let's go check it out [Music] they see hello Josh I know I've been looking for yes this place looks amazing thank you very much I'm glad you found us I mean it it wasn't any problem getting here but I tell you what when we turned into the drive yes I just so enjoy the way that you come up and approach this place and look at how amazing this is so how did you guys decide to build right here well I'm to tell you we were looking driving around seeing Sam Houston National Forest area north of Houston and we stumble on a piece of property for sale and we came out here thinking that this would be something like more like a weekend place or a cabin something like that but we fell in love with this area it's quiet it's peaceful that's the best neighbors you you just can't get better neighbors than that then we've got here and we started designing and planning and laying this out and kind of trying to figure out where the Sun is and I love designing it's my thing and so then I designed the one bar dominium and then the second part of me awesome so it sets on 14 acres we added this porch during construction it was not originally on here it's basically 40 by 20 so it's a really massive covered area here so it's supposed to feel when you're walking in that it's very welcoming and very inviting it kind of gets you out from the elements when you get on the porch we love these barn doors it's actually probably one of my favorite things about the house the barn doors I think really give a nice contrast to the white of the siding for the house but they're also functional so for us they serve a great great purpose if there is a storm or if we're doing yard work and we have a motor out here we don't want them to kick up a rock and hit the glass we've had that happen before not on these doors but you know probably just about everybody's kicked up a rock in their house on the glass and also when we leave to go on vacation we can lock these up which is really nice from the inside that's that's a great thing to think about as far as for safety as well as being able to if you didn't want to have the transparency you can close it off because this is a lot of glass so this window unit indoor unit is 9 feet tall and 18 feet wide listen lots of light the way but we've designed the house here it has lots of covered porches so it protects it from the elements we don't get direct sunlight we'll get lots of Sun so the room stays nice and and bright but we don't have direct sunlight into the into the windows so it really is uh well I can't wait to walk through those doors there you go Josh Wow Stacy this looks awesome thank you so I mean as you walk into the space there's really just a real open feel and I mean you've got grand dining you've got grand kitchen you've got grand living there's open ceilings yeah the space is this is really how we live out here in the country it's wide open everybody gathers around the kitchen island we wanted to revalue be able to participate and we could cook and it's still in a mingle with our guests the space is designed to feel very open and welcoming and very relaxing I mean you see this grand island in the kitchen so this island is a little more than five feet deep and it's 20 feet long it's made out of stainless steel so on this side which is where all the appliances are in the island we have a 48 inch range and also the microwave which is really great the microwave drawer works out great in in an island so that way you don't have to lean over and try to try to get your food in there so it's actually pretty cool yeah and we also have a pop filler in the island here so that when we're filling a pot for pasta or whatnot it's really easy the only appliance that's on the back wall here is the refrigerator freezer and it's trimmed out very nicely as well thank you very much and so I added this piece of furniture so this was this island in this kitchen I really designed around this piece of furniture that I have found in an antique store it's about a hundred years old and it really anchors this space I think that is beautiful really kind of centers it and I use it too put my glassware in it and so you've got a lot of drawer space lots of drawer space and then I also wanted to feel more like country living so here we just do the little cafe curtains and do things storage underneath the lights are four feet tall it's kind of hard to tell because the scale of the room is pretty good-sized there are four feet tall because the ceiling heights at the top were about 25 feet tall at the peak you know and it's really nice how you guys were able to use the architecture that's there to suspend and to attach these lights because I know you you've added these cross beams yes at the point of where your lights are gonna hang so another thing I'm noticing here in this grand room is the wood walls that you guys did and I understand that y'all did a lot of these things yourself we did we actually had a very good time here we put on some music I got to staining we sanded and we stained all of this wood where's all the footage of that oh yeah we will keep that to ourselves but anyway but we had a good time we sanded all of this wood in here and then we put on eight frames and we stand it and we stained it I'm in sealed it and then we installed it and when we install the wood we actually left the screws visible so it gives it a patina of the in the character and even those things don't line up exactly right got a little bit of gas it gives a little bit of a character it feels like it's been here a while it gives that relaxed that relaxed feel that I want people to have when they walk into the door that's very comfortable and they can it's like a larger version of your standard shiplap it is so let me tell you about the fireplace okay the fireplace is you know you really don't know how big the fireplace is until you stand next to it because this is this is a pretty big fireplace it's nice nice big opening it's a masonry fireplace and it's designed to heat this room it'll heat this room when this fire is going full-bore it will heat this room in about 25 minutes 30 minutes it's wonderful it's you know when the evening with the fires going and the music's on and I've got a glass of wine I'm in my happy place also talked about the ceiling for us so you know this space I thought needed something on the ceiling that was unique that really spoke to me and so I found these tiles there these tiles are two by two it's kind of hard to tell again because the the ceiling heights are sought but these are big tiles and we put these on the ceiling they're three-dimensional it gives you a nice warm feel a little bit more of a formal feel I think I like the creativity involved with that and it breaks it up like you know again you could have went sheetrock you could have went wood on the ceilings and done vice versa but you're doing the you know the most with your space and putting yourself out there on the design and it I think it turned out amazing so when we have large parties it's really great because if the weather is nice we open up the door and now we have just about doubled our space from this room to that room and people can go in and out between the two rooms during a party so cool Stacey and so I love just immediately like you said you've doubled your space now you have this complete openness from that room to this room yes this is the outdoor living room we really tried to make it an outdoor living room we have curtains we have an outdoor kitchen beautiful sitting here we've added the big beautiful fireplace again that actually really heats the space really well when it's cold outside it's very relaxing these are six foot ceiling fans that are out here that are also keeping the air moved while we're we're out here and you're keeping with all of this black frame as well under this huge canopy space yes so what we do is we just continued the ridgeline from the rest of the house just on out you know you can go about a 25 foot span 24 25 foot span so that's what we did here we extended the roofline and created this outdoor living space and really that's what's great about Barn iminium right because you can't expand that space yeah and and I think too often we we kind of fail to recognize it but one of the key things that you can do with the Barna minion is you can have that open ceiling yes you don't have a lot of you don't need the extra support see if you were doing a traditional frame home you couldn't get this kind of span that's what makes barndominium is so special and so unique because you can do these wide spans with the steel construction that you can't do with traditional stick construction well I've got to say you guys have taken some relatively common materials and made it look amazing [Music] this is a tech what we call a texas-sized outdoor geology so we we have created everything out here that you would have on the inside of the house we have a refrigerator built in trash cans a farmhouse sink we also have a basically this is not an outdoor kit this is a kitchen this is a garbage disposal it's really great TV my husband loves to cook on the grill we have a cooktop and then we also have our pizza oven which is its oven the pizza oven is very popular with our guests we everybody gets to make their own pizza I always say that you get the opportunity to roll out your own dough put all your own sauce and put all the toppings and if you didn't like dinner it's your fault so that's pretty cool that is a great feature and I know you guys are utilizing this for pretty much entertainment as well it is it's very it's very interactive so your guests are involved and you'll get a chance to see it a little bit later we have you guys make your own pizza see so what you think and so you'll get a chance to roll out your dough and people will get a chance to see how the pizza oven works super cool yeah so and I know the far is hot right now it's burning right now it is the pizza oven we'll get to about a thousand degrees it'll cook a pizza in under a minute it's really pretty cool and it's really nice and a little bit will be able to open this up and we'll show you the flame it should be bellowing at the top of the pizza dough the pizza dough so if you thought that this porch was over but wait there's more there's more once you come this way let's go over here alright so let me show you what we call the back porch so we have two German Shepherds and they come in and out and since they live in the house they can get out to the door there and they run here and this is their space we call it one of the things that's really a pretty neat about this space though I don't have the handle on but this closes you're gonna help me out Josh see this close so again so this will another big door yeah so this this door will actually close off this door just like we did in the front this is just a corrugated mr. corrugated panels that are really great and it can close off this door again for when we are traveling or we're mowing the grass and we don't want to hit the hit the glass doors I really think that's a cool feature just to be able to you know pretty much close off your windows I'm almost like a storm yeah storm door yes at the the weather's coming in we've got a lot of branches falling off we could protect it well come on I've got some more to show you Josh alright let's go okay let me show you the pantry cool here we go tried to make the pantry a little special so we added some tongue-and-groove stain boards here made the curtains so we could store things underneath I kind of hide that we've got all this extra food in here going on right now and we took this buffet and separate the hutch from the buffet and then mounted the hutch to the wall that's an antique ladder that I convert it to a pot back so the master we have one more fireplace here the sitting space is really particularly in the evenings like it's kind of winding down before getting into bed well I also noticed that you have another way onto the porch yes we put a door in unto the bedroom and so our egress that's why something happened that's how we could get out of here great sized room thank you yeah this is a big space well why don't show you the master bath okay wow wow what a nice space we tried to make it a real open wide space so what we did is we left we didn't put any cabinetry underneath here we put some legs and this way you can it just continues the floor so it makes it feel much more open and this is a light concrete art well sink okay doing a double double sinks or that's a great idea it's just something that that's really different lots of light and Louie does what's your ball what's your block so yeah you you gotta have this kind of light right here in your master bath to get that and to have the privacy that you do yes yeah it's good let's lots of light in here and it's really comfortable again we tried to go with the wood for the all of the windows are boxed out in the pine wood that we stain so it keeps a theme the only dark wood stained but sighs the covered porches is that we decided to added the dark stain to the master bathroom cabinet no I thought it's a well-thought-out space we have a rain shower head we have temperature gauges for the his and her showers the rain shower heads and then we also added a clawfoot tub this is an iron claw foot tub it's it's very very heavy it's super nice and it turned out really good oh well thank you thank you so on this side of the house the other side was the master and on this side of the house we have here's the powder room which is right off the family room we added a chandelier in the space and we also added the black and white floor tile which I really love very nice and so off of this hallway that over here we go right into this set of French doors leads us into really the flexspace Josh I mean people anybody can use this for just about anything you could use it for a library or a study or a craft room in this case or TV room but we decide to use this as an office space for right now I'm still putting everything together all of our pictures up and putting boxes of books we've got so many books that I'm still trying to get up on the shelves I love this cool table here with the chest thank you thank you we are all big chess players we all love chess and so this was we found this chest this large chess set and we decided to incorporate it right now I just have these chairs sitting in here for right now I'm still trying to work on this space so super cold so I know that we have obviously been through the family room yes dining kitchen living all the porches master bedroom powder room so now this is the flex space how many bedrooms do we have here the house has three bedrooms three and a half bathrooms and then we also have this flex space here and then we also have a special space upstairs I'm gonna show you okay well let's go there [Music] well welcome up you Josh cool so this is just another great space so right so this this is upstairs we decided to make this space a multifunctional space so this room acts as a sleeping area because we've got double Queen bunks here we have double full-size bunks over there it also acts as a game room so we can play games and board games up here and the other to get access as is a home theater because we have a big-screen TV here and so this really the space could do multi-purpose we also have a morning kitchen which is great for making popcorn for movies up here also when my kids adult kids come back home to visit they like to this kind of like their space they have their own refrigerator their own coffee pot and they can hang out here I really like how it you did elevate this side so you can maintain a little bit higher and again it just shows you some of the flexibility you have with using steel building to do a steel building right because this is a this is very white I mean this right here is probably 40 feet on for this angle here and so this is a lot of space and we couldn't get those kinds of spans you know with traditional construction that's what makes part of me was so great so we built the other barn iminium our 30 by 50 foot barn Arminian and we lived in that for 18 months while we were under construction here well I really think this is an awesome place that you guys do here and so what do you think would you ever do this again do you know I want to do this again I have about three or four plans in my head that I really want to build again so who knows one day I may sell this and start another barn a mini-mom gonna have to call you yeah yeah I know that your Instagram account has gained a lot of attention and you're making a lot of unique connections as well and a lot
