[Music] number 51 and I want to begin reading please in verse number one Psalm chapter 51 and verse number one have mercy upon me O God according to thy loving-kindness according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin for I acknowledge my transgressions and my sin is ever before me against thee thee only have I sinned and has done this evil in thy sight that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest and be clear when thou judges behold I was shapen in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me behold thou desirous truth in the inward parts and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean wash me and I shall be whiter than snow make me to hear joy and gladness that the bones which thou has broken may rejoice hide thy face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities created me a clean heart O God and renew a right spirit within me cast me not away from thy presence and take not thy Holy Spirit from me restore unto me the joy of thy salvation and uphold me with thy free spirit then will I teach transgressors thy ways and sinners shall be converted unto thee that'll be all the scripture I read today I want to talk on the subject this morning I simply entitled consequences Charles Haddon Spurgeon said every time I read Psalms chapter number 51 I entitle it the sinner's guide back to God it is here in Psalms 51 that David is repenting of the more immoral sin that he had committed with another man's wife what we call adultery it is here David is getting right with God one old-time preacher said the title of this chapter could be the day David sang Amazing Grace this is David's chapter of seeking God for forgiveness and restoration from his disobedience and his moral failure it says within these verses that David himself reveals his conviction his emotions his desire from the inward parts to get back to God I want you to notice something very important about this chapter David admits his sin in Psalm chapter number 38 but David doesn't get right with God until Psalms chapter number 51 and there's a principle here restoration of getting right with God requires more than someone just admitting that they have failed but it must also include a heartfelt desire to be right with God more than to live another day of life it's one thing to confess but it's another thing to repent but you always remember when you get right with God you always remember we all suffer something called consequences the word simply means it's an effect because of a certain action that you have committed it's it's a repercussion from a decision that somebody has made in their life I think sometimes brother Ron if we give a misconception about a second chance Christian and the forgiveness of God if you think you can just run out of church and live like you want to then hit an altar on Sunday and tell god you're sorry and it's all forgotten then you don't know very much about the Bible you don't know much about the Bible every time you knowingly disobey God and continue to do so God clarifies in this chapter that you are gonna have consequences and you're going to have repercussions because of your disobedience do you understand that so there's three points I want to show you very quick and my tax consequences repercussions I guess the modern-day word would be karma number one I want you to notice David's conviction about his sin look what David did when God got to dealing with them about his disobedience and by the way if you're born again I don't have to ask you if God's dealing with you I know God's dealing with you and if you can live in sin and God doesn't deal with you you didn't get the same salvation I got when I got born again God immediately begins to deal with us before anybody even knows anything's wrong it's called Holy Ghost conviction look in these verses if you will please keep your Bible open verse number one David admits that his transgression was not against man it was against God in verse number three David said my sin is ever before me do you see that in the context of the scripture now some theologians believe that he said that because Bathsheba had moved in and was now living with him I don't believe that at all though it could apply to that I believe when you get born again and God puts you under conviction no matter where you go and what you're doing that thing between you and God is in front of you and it drives you crazy and it doesn't matter it doesn't matter if you're driving down the road it doesn't matter if you're laying in bed it doesn't matter if you're on the job it doesn't matter if you're at Walmart he doesn't matter if you're getting your oil change if you're a born-again and you're not right with God whatever it is is ever before you he also said in verse number seven that he felt dirty because he said I needed to be washed whiter than snow you see when you're born again you don't get under conviction because you got caught you get under conviction because you disobeyed God and when you reach something that's not pleasing to God it makes you feel dirty David said I need washed I mean cleaned up from the inside out there's nothing more miserable than being saved and being away from God because you don't fit in with the world and you don't fit in with the church you're a misfit in every area of your life notice he said in verse number eight and has killed my worship David said I have no joy I have no gladness I don't have a free spirit I'm not able to rejoice anymore I'm old-fashioned enough to believe that a reason why a lot of people never rejoice in the Lord and never raise their hand and never cry and never shall and never testify and never go to the altar it's not because it's their personality it's because there's something between them and God and you lose your joy you lose your fellowship you lose your worship you lose the spirit filled life all of this is happening because David's under conviction he said in verse number nine I can't even fellowship with God he said when I try to pray here's what he said God hides his face from me God turns his back on me you see God is a holy God and he left us a holy Bible and he allowed his holy son to die on the cross and he fills us with the Holy Ghost and he do things outside of holiness you'll never see the face of God if you're ever gonna get in his presence you're gonna have to clean up that one thing that's ever before you that's called conviction and notice what he said in verse 11 because there's a lot of misinterpretation here David said take not thy Holy Spirit from me now look at that verse hide not thy presence from me now people that believe you can lose your salvation use this verse to say see even David said that God could take His Holy Spirit from him which means he's lost but look at the verse very carefully notice the word Holy Spirit is not capitalized notice the ages in small letter and the spirit the S is in small letter if it was referring to the Holy Spirit of God in person those letters would be capitalized because it's referring to a person place or thing so English grammar would demand that those words be capitalized but here's what David same because I have sinned it's ever before me I feel dirty I can't find the face of God I'm out of fellowship with God and that Holy Spirit that spirit when people get around me and know that there's something about me that's different that spirit of holiness that ought to be ever and in and every child of God's life it's gone from me now have you ever been around somebody and you look at them you don't even know but you know their child's of God you know there's something holy about them you know there's something different about them and David said now I've got on the conviction and I've messed up and now that holiness when people witness the presence of God in my life when I come around that to has now left me he said in verse 12 I feel like I'm in bondage I've lost my free spirit nothing is more tourmalet in the heart of a Christian than to be under conviction and knowing your spirit you're not right with God it robs you of everything God wants you to have I've been on that train before and I jumped that rail a long time ago I decided to follow Jesus with everything within me till the day I die and I've never been sorry that I've give Jesus the best years of my life is the greatest decision I have ever made and some of you I love you and I'm your pastor and I want to be your pastor but I get so tired of you living under conviction when I know you could be living under joy gladness fullness peace contentment and happiness in the Lord so I still showed you David's conviction now I want to show you David's cleansing watch what happens when David realizes what he's done and he's in trouble with God verse number 1 he brings out a request blot out my transgressions that word blot out means to wipe away to abolish like it's never been there to buff out have you ever seen somebody get a scratch on their car and that scratch is a scar and it's there and it's your fault you shouldn't have done it now your car scratched and so years ago we invented something called an electric buffer and you can take a buffer with wax and polish and put it over that scrape that's your problem that you caused and if you'll buff that out just right when you're finished you can stand back and you can't tell anything had ever been scratched or damaged before that's the content of what David is saying here he said I know I messed up ain't nobody's fault but mine I'm not blaming anybody because I'm not what I ought to be and I'm telling you I'm sorry and I want to get it right and I want you to blot out the next time I look in the mirror I want you to buff me with the Holy Ghost and I want to be able to look at the face of God like this has never happened in my life he wanted to be washed and cleansed in verse number two David said my sin is ever before me in verse three notice he never blamed anybody else for the action that he had committed we have raised a generation where nobody takes responsibility for their actions anymore you know I'm telling it right nobody now you may get by without it with your family you may get by with that with a judicial system but you'll never get by with that philosophy with God you will never get right until you quit blaming everybody else for you screwing up your life and take responsibility for the condition that you're in right now David even said in verse four in his cleansing he said I'm evil my actions were ungodly they were unacceptable in the presence of God I'm giving you just the exa G's of these verses in verse number seven he said I know when I confess this it'll make me whiter than snow that brings me back to a verse brother brother Danny in Isaiah chapter one and verse eighteen I say I said come let us reason together saith the Lord though your sins be as scarlet crimson red they shall be as wool and the Bible said they should be whiter than snow and though they be as crimson they shall be as wool God typifies being cleanse by snow and he typifies it again by wool come let us reason together saith the Lord though your sins be as scarlet they shall be as white as snow though they be as crimson they shall be as wool why did God typify our sin to snow and to wool the first one is for relationship and the second one is for fellowship let me give you a question how many times can you wash snow you ever tried to pick up snow take it in the house put it under the sink and say I'm gonna wash this you know what happens to snow it dissolves it goes away you can't find it it's forever gone and God said when you come to the cross and you receive my son as your personal Savior your sins are gone they're washed away they're evaporated see that brings us into relationship with God but then he goes on brother Anderson to say though they be as scarlet they shall be as white as wool now why did God use wool and not snow snow is for a relationship wool is for fellowship did you know the most enduring fabric that you can wash and last longer than any other fabric in the world is wool you can wash it over and over and over again you buy a polyester suit it's gonna wear out you buy a nylon suit it's gonna wear out you buy a cotton suit it's gonna wear out you buy a wool suit that thing will be around long after you're gone and God said look I initially watched all your sins away when you came to my son but you're gonna make some mistakes between here in heaven and I want you to know that same blood will wash you over and over and over and over not for relationship but for fellowship I'm glad the blood of Jesus Christ God's Son cleanses us from all sin all sin that's David's cleansing he said in verse number 10 I want restoration to affect my spirit he said want that free spirit back again he said in verse 12 I want to be restored restore unto me now notice this brother Andy he said restore unto me the joy watch this of I salvation you see that terminology he didn't say restore my salvation because when you get saved your salvation is it in your hands anymore it's in his hands David said I don't need to get resaved I just need to get restored does this singing money have you're the one that bought me you're the one who paid for me you're the one who keeps me know wonderful that when you get convicted you can get cleanse what I want to talk about consequences verse 4 David said you're gonna judge me now here's a guy that's admitted he's wrong here's the guy that's confessed he's wrong here's the guy that's asked God to cleanse him and forgive him and reinstate him and restore him but David said I'm not stupid I know I'm gonna be judged for what I've done he said I've been under conviction I've sought God for cleansing but that doesn't remove the fact that David had long term consequences for his disobedience it's David wrote Psalms 51 only after Nathan the Prophet came to him and gave him an illustration about a lamb and David said I don't know who that is but they'll pay fourfold and they consider him thou art the man and David paid four times for one sin now as far as investment is concerned 400 percent interest is pretty high as far as I'm concerned so you remember before you turn your back on God the consequences of your disobedience could tally up to 400 percent in return there's not long after that that David got word his baby had died through god Shiva wasn't long after that to Amnon raped his sister Tamar they were both sons and daughters of David was along after that to Absalon his other son found out what Amnon did and he killed his brother at a party and David paid over and over and over the natural log Davidoff his throne and his own long-haired son and rebellion said I'll be the next king of Israel and absalon's hair got caught in the tree and Joab at his men stabbed him three times in the heart with darts and four times David paid for his sin whole don't you know brother rise that there was many times that David ran up in that pavilion lifted his hands up to heaven to where he used to worship God and say God I want you to know I'm so sorry for what I've done I should have never done what I did I'm so sorry and God said that's good David but sorry ain't enough I want to spend the rest of this message talking about consequences well some of you ain't right with God and God's getting ready to bring the hammer down and I want to warn you one more time you about to get in trouble with a god that's gonna break you like you've never been broke before I want to talk about consequences for just a minute number one I want to talk about David's secrets being revealed see it always starts out a secret but it never does end up that way sin will take you in a dark room and pull the blinds and turn out the light and lock the door and right in the middle of your iniquity when you think nobody knows seeing will turn around and flip the light switch open the door pull up the shades and expose you for what you have really been oh you may think you're fooling this old-time preacher you think you're getting by with it because I don't know what you're doing the eyes of the Lord are everywhere beholding the good and the evil God knows where you're at and God knows what you're doing I'm only reading this because I have permission we have a man in our church that we all love brother David I got brother David out of jail two years ago he spent 16 years in prison loved on him worked with him got him here at the church got him saved baptized joined the church married a precious lady in his church that's here today not a home that automobiles got him a job and his wife working things out building a home it several months ago he started going bad on me and I went to him and I said no David I loved it I'm gonna work with you I want you to get through this get back up on your feet but as a church we're not putting up with its nonsense if you're gonna live in a way that brings a disgrace on the cause of Christ I'm gonna bring you before the church and we're gonna take your name off the roll you're not leaving like a dog and being a member of this church and I don't care who you are or who your family is you're not living like a dog or being a member of this church I've done nothing but love him love his wife they have called me morning noon and night I've always been there mr. doodle for both of you and David wrote me this letter and said I want you to read this to my church Sunday morning secrets it's called goodbye Matt you've ruined my life the day we met I knew you were the one for me you introduced yourself as math and at first I tried to keep you a secret I loved you too much to share is our relationship progressed you taught me not to care I thought I was so special everything was so great the more I gave in to you the more you would take I'd stay awake for weeks trying to hide the pain not letting anyone know that I was in this so deep I was trying to hide you and I'm slipping away from my life to you you keep yelling at me and saying in my head that tomorrow it's gonna be okay how you would do this to me and lie to me and the time after time again always telling me that our love would never end remember this church you made me believe and say things I never should have said you even had me convinced that I would be better off if I was dead you took my wife my family my friends destroyed them and you said that I would be better off without them you took God out of my life and said that this is what I need and now looking back I really realized that you heard nothing but a friend of the devil I've confessed my sins to my Lord Jesus Christ I do not want to see you ever again Matt please stay out of my life never to return again I'm going to put my life back together again as much as I can I want you to know I love my life I love my family and I hope they understand that I need my church to forgive me please Church forgive me my addicted relationship to the devil sign David did I get some fuzzy headed idiot that gets mad because I preach against sin you don't like me preach against fornication and social drinking and taking drugs and laying up like dogs and living like animals did you gonna have the guts to come and tell me you don't want me preaching like that you need to find you another church honey cuz as long as the devil's tearing up families and ruining lives away [Applause] David's revealed secrets number two I want to talk about David reaping what he sowed don't you know every time brother leatherhead God brought judgment down on David don't you know the lowdown devil said yeah David looking at the Bible said be not deceived God is not mocked whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap you say preacher you'll never find out God knows about it and somewhere down the road you are going to reap exactly what your son a deacon in a Baptist Church hid it from his pastor that he was a social drinker he drank whisky on the weekends no Deacon ought to be a social drinker no preacher ought to be a social trainer no Christian ought to be a social drinker and God helps sorry preachers that won't preach against it because of some money people in the church or some pub knows Deacon board they're afraid I know child of God ought to be participating in any kind of alcoholic beverage no matter what kind it is but he was slipping around and drinking and his family knew it talking about reaping what you sold but he hid it from the preacher his daughter was in the praise team like we had singing up here just a minute ago good girl raised in church all her life but she knew that he drank on the weekends she knew where he kept his liquor in the cupboard she was graduating from high school and one of the boys came by and picked her up and took her to the high school prom mother her father was sitting in the living room trusting that she was having a wonderful time at the school prom and about 10:30 that night their phone rang after his wife talked for a second she fell in the floor and dropped the phone he picked the phone up only to find out that his daughter and her boyfriend had been in an accident he scarfed up the body of his wife threw it in the car and ran to the hospital they were running down the hallways the hospital and one of the doctors stopped and said I know you you're the father of the girl and he said I am and he said I want to know what's going on what happened and he said sir we're still investigating a lots going on but I do want to tell you your daughter's dead I'm so sorry he saw what happened did they slide off the road did somebody hit him what's going on he said well we're still doing a lot of tests than that but from what it looks like now he was drunk and as a drunk driver he left the road and hit a tree that killed your daughter he's in the surgical room now he may be on a ventilator for a while after surgery he's hemorrhaging and bleeding we're trying to save his life he stormed out of the room and he told us live he said that boy better hope he dies coz if he don't die I'll kill him look around sorry drunk take my daughter off to a prom should have been the highlight of her life now she's dead hours later they went home they sent in the silent living room with just one light out of both of them weeping uncontrollably he said honey I know it may not sound like it but I gotta have a drink and he got up and he went to the cupboard and he opened the cupboard door to grab his bottle but the bottle was gone but there was a note where the bottle was dear dad special occasion tonight I knew you wouldn't mind me borrowing your stash I promise I'll pay you back soon the very liquor that daddy had in that cupboard was the very liquor that got them drunk how would you like to be a daddy and wake up every morning knowing you supply the liquor that killed your daughter how would you like to watch your kids go to pot no it's because of your sin I know there's a time when children are accountable to themselves but I want to be able to rest my head on my pillow at night if they don't do right it's a dog I don't know why they're acting crazy but they didn't learn it from me baby get in here Oh God say number three and I'm done I want to talk about the rewards he sacrificed David's victories and miracles and influence read the rest of his life his effect was gone all of his big battles in the singing and the parties they're all gone no telling what David lost in this life and there's no telling the rewards he forfeited in the day to come on Judgment Day oh god somebody is about to reap their consequences let's just and with our heads bowed our eyes are closed [Music] [Music] I know great Oh in the [Music]
