might not work I don't think she's going to go for pictures honestly and why wouldn't work for some reason the mom always gets Emma back I know I know she blames it all on the boyfriend I read the entire case File she gets bail she files a petition to restore custody how how is that even possible it honestly all comes down to the judge that's assigned to the case he has all the power I know hey I know I know this is discouraging but trust me we're going to fight this okay we are not going to give up on Emma what are you reading do you read a lot do you watch TV do you talk I just like reading listen my parents they already have four kids I don't think that we're going to be taking in another one no offense what did your parents do to you they must be really screwed up or else you being abused what's that minda this is not my case I know I know it's judge Bennetts okay so then take it to judge Bennett I reviewed his files okay and he always selects parental placement okay that's a good thing no it's not not in cases when these parents are repeatedly abusing these children Linda you're my cousin but this is out of line listen tomorrow morning a 10-year-old little girl is going to be returned to her mother most likely a little girl who has unexplained bruising all over her back okay so bring the evidence to judge Bennett it's been presented Edwin judge judge Jud trust me on this okay he's not letting the system work who's this judge wait no no no no no no Wayne no no this is this is not on the record Linda M Goddard this is not the time nor the place the foster care system is designed to protect kids yeah it's the same for adoptive parents but both systems are messed up they have its laws okay yes yes the system has its flaws too many kids no oversight not enough money yeah these kids are the ones who suffer because of it adopted parents are the real heroes here along with the brave young women who choose adoption for their kids but nobody you know pays attention to it they ignore it you know and it's same thing for Fosters I face the same treatment you know my wife talks about this all the time all right well then you should talk about it with your lawmakers and I'm telling you Wayne this is not on the record okay Edwin you know all about Foster parenting right family law and you you're the most watched man in Ohio guilty I am handson every single day in this okay we have influence call me crazy but I say we fix it I say you take it up with your Congress don't you want to make a difference leave a legacy you're close to retirement come on Judge we could really make a difference okay all right fine um I guess I guess we could look into it um you know get some people together I can do a piece on it later tonight that's a great idea yeah we'll get community leaders together and uh we'll talk about the challenges Foster and adopt the parents have to face you know we'll come with some ideas you we give them some so uh my trusty assistant Linda is going to lead us off hello everyone hi thank you 16,000 it's number of foster kids that we have in Ohio and this number has increased by 133% in the last year 6,000 that's the number of foster parents we have in the state so you guys can do the math we can talk about a lot of different things here today but I'm telling you this this is the biggest issue okay we need more foster parents more people showing up and caring and loving these kids being the true hands and feet of Jesus okay so how do we do that means that uh family is everything in Italian we need to change the family narrative in America a foster kid is still a kid an adopted kid is still a kid and those kids belong to families and we need to support those families and that's legislatively we need more pro- family laws resources our community really needs to support the parents that are opening their doors to these kids hey guys I don't mean to be the pastor of the bunch but I am a pastor and while all these things are correct I truly believe this is a spiritual attack on the families of our culture you better believe it yeah absolutely absolutely so okay let's get started we're going to break it down first group is legislative who wants to tackle that the congressman's wife great thank you so much uh resources yeah yeah great guys thank you uhoh spiritual you know I'm looking at you Pastor you think you can handle this one I I've got you you're on all right fantastic fantastic now the next one is mentorship this is a big one guys and I can tell you after 15 years on the bench families that they would feel the overwhelming sense of our church uh of the people of this community to surround them to love them and to give them a Hope Oh God you are a good good father and you have brought us here for such a time as this Lord you say in your word that you chose us even before the foundation of the world that we should be holy and blameless that we should be yours in love you predestined us for adoption as Sons and Daughters through Jesus Christ that was your will before creation adoption was a part of your design so now father God you've given us just such an incredible opportunity Lord to be a part of your beautiful will so in the name of Jesus Oh Lord we thank you that this is your idea that this is your will and so we ask that your will be done that changes be made in people's lives and and in their hearts to move forward and to make a change for these beautiful children who are deeply in need of your idea of the family oh Lord continue to break chains Lord that keep us Lord from doing and walking in your will Lord thank you for choosing us thank you for loving us continue to use us For Your Glory that we would reach many we love you amen permission I would like to first start off with a brief opening statement and then proceed with the order you may Emma Lane Johnson an 11-year-old little girl had been deprived of the most basic and precious of all human rights the right to grow up in a loving safe nurturing environment however this all changed on July 31st of last year when Jason and Heather Garcia acting as emergency foster care providers welcomed em into their home the Garcia family is a Well Suited well Blended family consisting of adopted and foster children and I think it's safe to say Emma has truly grown to just adore her foster parents um sadly 6 months after placement Emma's biological mother was found deceased by the Ohio State Police and it also needs to be noted that the birth father has vacated all parental rights however today we are celebrating the Garcia family and their willingness to accept Emma and welcome her into their home officially making her one of their own we asked the court to confirm the order do you have any objections Mrs towns no sir okay you may be seated Emma do you have anything you'd like to say um I I love them I love them so much please let me stay forever thank you Emma you may be seated Mr Garcia how many children do you and your wife have five your honor and how many of those are adopted and fostered um respectfully your honor we don't use the word adopted or fostering in our house they're just ours well said sir well said would you like to say anything else to the court sir yes your honor if I may I would love to approach Emma you may Emma I may not have your skin and you may not have my eyes but you'll always have my full heart in my 15 years on this bench I have seen the best of families and I have seen the worst of families from what I have seen the key is love unconditional everlasting love Emma it is my belief that the garcas would like to share their unconditional everlasting love with you so I ask Emma Johnson would you like to spend the rest of your life in love with the Garcia family how about the rest of the Garcia family could you please stand are you ready to be a supportive big sister with everything I have okay you may sit heart because I am adopted um um my father adopted me when I was uh 4 years old and he is without a doubt the strongest and biggest influence in my life everything that I was able to do in my life a go and attack if you will was because I had a real strong support structure at home uh I've always felt like adoption was the greatest thing somebody could do for another person didn't he play Superman yes uh people can give support and monetarily they can give their time um to become aware of what's going on in your community if there's people there that're being fostered you know participate if it's not money if you're not money Rich there's nothing better than donating your time toward helping uh others and it's a really simple thing to do it's [Music] amazing hey Bri hi doesn't know who I am hey are you sure about that H all right um I was going to wait till after dinner but you need to come with me come on your daughter yes I know I've always known when I was 19 I got pregnant it was it was a hard time during that and shamefully I don't know who father was but I loved you and on that Sunny hot day in June I found a family your mother and father and I gave you to them it was the hardest thing I've done in my life but I did it from Love and then when you walked into that shop I Knew by the grace of God I knew how did you know I just knew I love you so much my daughter how did you get here you explain well um it was um it was something that you said when we first met and then again yesterday with the adoption right so I started I started thinking about it and also I wanted to get your dad's permission your your adopted dad right and he's not Italian so I called him and uh I just kind of figured it out waited so long beautiful he we got visitors you all for coming out you know we we all appreciate it you know about a year ago we gathered together a small group of people you know families from this community to help change how we care for our most precious and forgotten children how we support encourage and help our foster care program how do we care for our kids well I can tell you we've all been very [Applause] busy oh uh well apparently uh one of those kids would like to uh say a little something are are you guys okay with that okay wa you didn't tell neither do all these sless people here today like who that guy right there oh that's Wayne yes he's very famous he's on television and he does the news what do you think about that hey I think he's pretty handsome yeah but I'm better looking oh you think so oh yeah cuz I look like Dean Kane Carson now he's also here with his lovely wife oh she's checking the out no she's not uhhuh she's sitting there staring at me like this thank you so much for having us hey judge you got two for the price of one but I got a hand in it please consider being part of this organization that's right you don't have to adopt or be a foster parent because there's so many other ways to help out how's that that's perfect and thank you everyone well uh Carson is Right them Kane look there are many ways you can get involved and one is is supporting foster parents you can open up a foster care closet here in your church where you people can come to donate clothes Furniture even diapers so that the foster parents can have the things they need for free support foster parents by helping give them an evening to themselves um volunteer to watch their kids so they can have a night out support adoptive parents with that same passion Start mentorship programs at your church be a part of the solution and love the birth mothers and praise them for the unbelievable sacrifice they make and the precious gifts they give us and get legislatively involved I mean that's what Helping Hands is all about so we invite you to join us and join our community and getting involved in the raising of our children you know proverb says to train up a child in the way they would go when they are older they will not depart from it Proverbs actually means a promise so we have a promise and a [Applause] responsibility I am a promise I am a possibility I am a promise withal P I am a bra big poti and
