flooding into the city those jobs will be taken by people in town then we can bring your rental income back up mhm the rental rate should be even higher but gambling is illegal in this city not for much longer and where do you propose to build this casino do you have the land the first church of Raymond is the perfect location it's got freeway access lots of parking high visibility going to buy the church how it's up for sale but the church has been an institution here since this town was founded a 100 years ago an institution that is dying from lack of interest and funds you you self hardly go or your daughter how do you know what I'm suggesting is that we move the location of the church we'll build it in a family-friendly spot it'll be bigger better Mildred there's a motion that's going to be presented to the Raymond city council making gambling legal with York as may we know it'll pass but why not wait until the election is over before you buy the land things are really bad at the church right now we could get it for pennies on the dollar how much do you need mortgage is 500,000 and they're in foreclosure as we speak what's in it for you I just want to make this town an example an inspiration for others and I want 50% of the returns after you recoup so we take all the risk and you get half we've already got everything else in place think about it I'm sure you'll make the recording career and we wish him well you know I had a whole sermon planned for you today but sometimes it's better just to bring it right out rather than beat around the bush ladies and gentlemen while I'm grateful to see you here today I'm afraid I have bad news the bank has sold our church to a group of investors and I'm sad to say that they will be moving us out next week this will be my last sermon as I understand it this building is to be demolished and a new church is to be built at a new location now as many of you know my own personal loss has taken its toll on my duties as your minister so when the new church is built I will not be coming back as your pastor let us bow our heads in prayer Heavenly Father please help us to understand you know I've been wondering if I die in the next few days which there's every likelihood that I might I would like the satisfaction of knowing that I said my say in a place like this you see I don't know any teaching of Jesus that makes one kind of man less worth saving than another to any of you I've been in town for a few days trying to find a job and in all that time I have not heard a single word of comfort or sympathy except from your minister who said he was sorry for me and hoped that I could find a job somewhere I understand that you can't all go out of your way and Hunt up jobs for other people but what puzzles me is what does it mean to follow Jesus you sit in a church and you you talk about following Jesus you even sing songs about it but do you mean that you are suffering and denying yourselves the way he did are you really following his examples would he even have considered aiding in the destruction of the church so that a casino could be built in its place would he take bribes from corrupt officials and run graphic tabloid photographs in his newspaper and would he use his god-given talents in a way that would lead young people astray would he throw others out on the street just so he could make a buck would he abandon his congregation in his community at the most crucial time because of his own personal issues what would the world be like today if everybody tried to act as Jesus did so what really is the lesson here when you find yourself struggling with life's difficult decisions ask yourself one simple question what would Jesus do just got to pull somebody call a doctor where's the doctor he left how is he doing while he's resting the doctor says he's a sick man probably in his final stages of cancer should we get him to a hospital oh no the doctor's doing some more tests he says there's probably nothing we can do for him you know I just want to keep him here let him rest and and make him as comfortable as possible one we go come oh well I don't see you for months and then twice in one week what brings you here to see me that thing in church the other day is really messing with me yes well a thing like that can be very traumatic how's it man doing he's resting the doc says it doesn't look very good for him you know he came to my office looking for work the other day and I just ran him off now I feel really bad sit down so have you been feeling bad since the incident I don't even know how to describe it it's like this overwhelming emptiness like this sadness and I can't shake it well maybe you should seek professional help you sound depressed but isn't that what I'm doing now well I'll do what I can but you do know that I'm no longer the pastor I know okay listen I have some extra money and um I want to give it to the church thank you oh uh well I've been here for 20 years and I've never seen a donation that's this generous before I just thought it might help well you're very kind but uh I'm afraid it's going to take a lot more than this to save this church I know Reverend but it's a start well Diana as you can probably see I'm moving out but I'll make sure that this check gets the pastor of the new church but what if we want our old church and Pastor back I'm afraid that's not possible Henry I've heard you preach many times with God anything is possible well that's true but I've come to doubt many of the things that I've taught over the years have you lost your Faith Pastor um let's just say I've been tested beyond my capacity to endure I remember something else you taught us too what's that the Lord does not challenge us with more than we can
