grace of our lord jesus christ and the love of god and the communion of the holy spirit be with you all and with your spirit let us prepare ourselves for the sacred mysteries calling to mind god's mercy and compassion as we confess our sins i confess your almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that are greatly sinned in my prayers and in my words in what i have done what i feel to do through my fault through my fault through my most previous fault therefore i ask blessed and mary of a virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to the lasting life amen lord have mercy lord have mercy christ have mercy christ have mercy lord have mercy lord have mercy let from your hand and lead before the altar of the lord your god then in the sight of the lord your god you must make this pronouncement my father was a wandering aramaian he went down into egypt to find a refuge there few in numbers but there he became a nation great mighty and strong the egyptians you treated us they gave us no peace and inflicted harsh slavery on us but we called on the lord the god of our fathers the lord heard our voice and saw our misery our toil and our oppression and the lord brought us out of egypt with mighty hand and outstretched arm with great terror and with signs and wonders he brought us here and gave us this land a land where milk and honey flow here then i bring the first fruits of the produce of the soul that you lord have given me you must then lay them save him in distress and give him glory be with me o lord in my distress a reading from the letters in paul to the romans scripture says the word that is the faith we proclaim is very near to you it is on your lips and in your heart if your lips confess that jesus is lord and if you believe in your heart that god raised him from the dead then you'll be saved by believing from the heart you are made righteous by confessing with your lips you are saved when scripture says those who believe in him will have no cause for shame it makes no distinction between jew and greek all belong to the same lord who is rich enough however many ask for his help for everyone who calls on the name of the lord will be saved the word of the lord thanks be to god please stand for the gospel acclimation altogether praise you o christ king of eternal glory praise to you o christ king of eternal glory man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of god praise to you o christ king of eternal glory the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory to you o lord filled with the holy spirit jesus left the jordan and was led by the spirit through the wilderness being tempted there by the devil for 40 days during that time he had nothing and at the end he was hungry then the devil said to him if you are the son of god tell the stone to turn into a loaf but jesus replied scripture says man does not live on bread alone then leading him to a height the devil showed him in a moment of time all the kingdoms of the world and said to him i will give you all this power and the glory of these kingdoms for it has been committed to me and i give it to anyone i choose worship me then it shall all be yours but jesus answered him scripture says you must worship the lord your god and serve him alone then he led him to jerusalem and make him stand on the parapet of the temple if you are the son of god he said to him throw yourself down from here for scripture says he will put his angels in charge of you and guard you and again they will hold you up on their hands in case you hurt your foot against a stone but jesus answered him it has been said you must not put the lord your god to the test having exhausted all these ways or tempting him the devil left him to return at the appointed time the gospel of the lord praise you lord jesus christ today's gospel speaks of the three temptations of jesus they are tests to jesus of his identity and of the nature of his mission and the way jesus responded reveals his faithfulness to god's will and the manner to fulfill it jesus had his retreat in the wilderness he was hungry and was tempted to turn the stone into bread to satisfy his physical need jesus rejected the temptation and proclaimed that man does not live by bread alone yes we need bread we need to satisfy our material needs but we must also go beyond that there are higher priority and more important things in life when the israelites wandered in the wilderness they complained that they had not enough food and drink they said they would rather return back to egypt to be slave workers than to staff in the desert they wanted to forfeit their freedom for material gains some of us are preoccupied with material comfort and in some homes parents may be so preoccupied with the children's comfort that they failed to train their character and the children become so dependent on the mates and not able to assume responsibilities also they focus so much on the academic achievements that they may neglect their emotional and social well-being which is more important and some of us are so caught up in our career and corporate rat race that we fail to [Music] give time to our interpersonal relationships and our homes where is our priority the second temptation jesus was brought to a high ground and in a moment he could see all the kingdoms of the world he was tempted to deploy worldly means scheming and plotting to attain power and success but then jesus announced you must worship the lord your god alone jesus had power and authority but his power comes from preaching the truth and manifesting charities he associated with the lowly touched the levels at with tax collectors and sinners healed the women with hemorrhage he came to serve and not to be served to bring about inner transformations of his disciples some of us are tempted to scheme to go for high positions and power and to seek personal gains because divisions among people and sometimes we ended up sabotaging one another with people backstabbing one another and hurting one another the third temptation jesus was brought to the highest point of the temple he was asked to jump down to prove himself and the angel of the lord will come to whole him to prove his divine identity in fact he would face that temptation when he was on the cross the people cried up to him come down if you are the son of god but jesus replied you must not put the lord your god to the test in fact the real proof of the identity of jesus is in his faithfulness to the will of god and to the mission entrusted to him to the extent of sacrificing his life at calvary i remember years ago a woman was very bitter when her mother passed away during the period of the mother's sickness she said she was praying very hard she was praying every day the rosary that the lord will listen to her prayer her mom would recover but then she died and she said if god is real why did he not heal my mother he expected god to do her will and when that did not happen she felt upset this illusion and she stopped coming to church that could be our temptation also to want god to work miracles immediately to prove that he is god to us to sum up the three temptations of christ are ours also the first one to cling to material possessions and to despise spiritual values such as love peace and justice second to cease and abuse power for selfish gains and third to seek vain glory and to neglect the true essence of life which is to love for to live and love others the final verse in today's gospel reading says the devil left jesus to return on the appointed time meaning that the temptation returned again and again at various stages of the life of jesus for us too the battle against selfishness possessiveness and vainglory will continue to dockers that is why we need the purifying period of land every year to [Music] make aware of this reality and we are invited to repent and believe the good news let us now stand for the profession of faith i believe in god the father almighty was conceived by the holy spirit honored the virgin mary suffered under pontius pilate was crucified died and was buried he descended into hell on the third day he rose again from the dead he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of god the father almighty from there he will come to judge the living and the dead i believe in the holy spirit the holy catholic church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and life everlasting amen amen god our father has given us the faith to believe that jesus is the lord with confidence in his love and mercy written to him in our needs that the church may proclaim to all people the message of salvation repent and believe the gospel let us pray to the lord lord in your mercy hear us that those who have lost their way with god may be touched by his healing grace through our lenten prayers charities and sacrifices let us pray to the lord lord in your mercy hear us that we may show care and concern for those in need by supporting them through our magnanimity prayers and acts of service let us pray to the lord lord in your mercy hear us that all cater candidates and catechumens may experience the universality and love of our catholic faith as they journey toward the day of their partisan let us pray to the lord lord in your mercy hear us that parents be generous and encourage their children to the priestly and religious vocations and that those who hear god's call respond accordingly let us pray to the lord r lord your mercy hear us that governments of all nations manage to covet 19 pandemic wisely and that those who are suffering may experience christ's merciful love let us pray to the lord lord in your mercy hear us loving father may we always proclaim that jesus is the lord accept our requests which we bring before you in faith we ask this in jesus name amen it's another processed prayer to the holy spirit we stand before you holy spirit as we gather together in your name with you alone to guide us make yourself at home in our hearts teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it we are weak and sinful do not let us promote disorder do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions let us let us find in you our unity so that we may journey together eternal life and the son and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord by extending 40 long days from earthly food he consecrated through his fast the pattern of our lantern oxidants and by overturning all the snares of the ancient serpent taught us to cast up the leaven of malice so that celebrating worthily the paschal mystery we might pass over at last to the eternal basket feast and so with the company of angels and saints we sing the hymn of your praise as without end we acclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest you are indeed holy o lord the form of our holiness make holy therefore this gift we pray by sending down your spirit upon them that are due for so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took praise and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it this is my body which will be given out for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith your death oh lord and profess your resurrection until you come again therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that have helped us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope william our bishop and all the clergy remember lol salah brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse the blessed apostles and all the saints will please you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you to your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever amen at the savior's command and formed by his divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth against us but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ say to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live saint joseph church bukitima last friday we had our parish day of prayer fasting and arms giving we pray especially for the intention of the ending of the pandemic and also the seas of war in ukraine and for the arms giving you have donated fourteen thousand thirty dollars and forty cents so far we have donated two thousand art kits to the following institutions rcc hospice st joseph holmes and tracer's home and singapore and clicking care center the remaining fund that you have donated will be channeled to other charities according to the intentions of arms giving so you you don't need to submit through this program anymore but of course during the entire season of lent we are continue we are encouraged to continue our fasting prayer and almsgiving we have started the land season with the stations of the cross last friday the booking for mass and station of the cross using the booking system has exceeded the people and there are still others who wish to join the stations of the cross so we have created another booking link where those of you who wish to participate you can if you miss the mass booking with the capacity of 200 you can still book using the other booking system that is available in our website the link is provided there also so we when you go to our website you click that link and you do your registrations we can have up to 500 people for the friday mass and
