them that you stand for the word of God actually you would do so I want to summon your senses and invite you intellect to the gospel that has been recorded by mark chapter number 10 mark chapter 10 and it is there that the Holy Spirit has highlighted for us this familiar passage of Scripture beginning with verse number 46 your Bible should read and there came to Jericho and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples in a great number of people blind bartimaeus the son of Timaeus sent by the highway side begging and when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth he began to cry out and say Jesus you son of David have mercy on me and many charged him that he should hold his peace but he cried the more great deal you son of David have mercy on me and Jesus Stood Still and commanded him to be called and they called the blind man saying unto Him be of good comfort rise he calls you and he casting away his garment rolls and came to Jesus and jesus answered and said unto him what will you that I should do unto you the blind man said unto Him Lord that I might receive my sight and jesus said unto him go your way your faith has made you whole and immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus in the way I want to snatch on a subject out of verse 49 and tag this text and Jesus stood stele may be seated in the Lord's church one noted theologian said that a person full of doubt finds problems in opportunities a person full of faith finds opportunities in problems it depends on your focus and state of mind of how you interpret that which is in front of you that how we gauge and engage life is contingent upon the internal capacity and state of our minds I a person who doubts only focuses on the problem person of faith sees the opportunities in the problems and that truth is the thesis of this little Easter speech tonight and the problem that it carries with us is that the focal person of the text can't see and thus his perspective cannot lie in his eyes his perspective is in his mind he who cannot see sees opportunity somehow suggesting to us that opportunity and does not begin in the eyes it starts in the perception of the mind how you interpret a situation in front of you mark unusually mark unusually unlike Matthew and Luke records this moment and is focused on one man when Matthew and Luke says it's two of them Matthew and Luke tell us it's two blind men mark for whatever reason does not care about the other guy he just focuses on one of the two blind men gives us his name his name is blind Bartimaeus he is in a unique spot because blind bartimaeus is in Jesus way on the way to count me he's in a unique place he's in between Jericho and Jerusalem he's in between the passage of Jesus last week before his execution text says he gets word that Jesus is passing by he's in the vicinity he says son of man have mercy on me he is a nuisance to those who are following Jesus they want him to be quiet text says he becomes an even greater nuisance because he gets loud for him to be quiet and Jesus stands still the only time in the Greek New Testament the courts Jesus being in a steel standing motion this blind man called him long enough and loud enough that it influenced Jesus to stand still turns to the blind man says rise and come we don't have any particular medium or method of how a blind man got to Jesus texts just says he got up in rolls and started getting to Jesus you see ladies and gentlemen part of your miracle is not what Jesus did to you but how you got to him when you couldn't see [Applause] blind man gets up promised to Jesus Jesus gives him a blank check what do you want me to do for you says that I might give cite and Jesus does not meet or answer his requests directly the man requests his sight Jesus says go away your faith has made you whole and blind man as he goes gets his sight Jesus tells the man to go your way when he gets his sight he decides that my way is Jesus way do you follow Jesus in the way that's the story let's back up and share some things out this passage that are pertinent to our walk with God and we'll all go get some chick in the night ladies and gentlemen I want to share with you that blind bartimaeus has some theological significance to the Ministry of Jesus Christ which is why mark spotlights him in particular mark you will notice decides that he doesn't just want to highlight this man he wants to let us in on his family history he says that his name is blind bartimaeus Bartimaeus bar is a prefix hebrew prefix meaning son of son of Timaeus son of Timaeus Timaeus ladies and gentlemen in its Hebrew etymology means unclean or fire it's the same word that is used in the Levitical law when the law wanted to specify that any particular act is unclean the same word used in the Levitical law for unclean is the same name given to this blind man's daddy he is unclean senior [Applause] and his son's name is unclean jr. Bartimaeus son of the unclean well that ladies and gentlemen may suggest to us why his locale is where it is maybe this ship he is not on the highway side because he's blind he's on the highway side because he's been banned because anything that's been declared unclean cannot remain in the mainstream society and they have to live on the outskirts of town so he's not there because he's blind he's there because he's been banned because he is living with his daddy's baggage he is the continuation of a generational curse that put him outside of town because his daddy didn't have his business straight and because his daddy didn't have his business straight his son is the casualty of his daddy's uncleanness [Music] and so we've got a we've got our contextualize Varda mayor's because he is blind banned and broke the text says he's a beggar he has no money he's banned which means he has no socialization and he's blind which means he has no direction he's blind banned and broke he's not on the outskirts of town because he's blind and broke he's there cuz he's been banned because he can't work he can't see and as a result of being his daddy's baggage they put him outside of town and left him out there to beg for money because he's blind and banned and the blessing of the text is that when they put him out and threw him away they put him in the route of Jesus ladies and gentlemen maybe you didn't fall from grace maybe you fell into it maybe when they dismissed you and let you go and fire you they were doing you a failure because what they did not know is that just because you're not accepted in the community does not mean you're not accepted by Christ and as a result he now gets an opportunity at the worst time in his life often times ladies and gentlemen the best opportunities come at the worst time in your life that cause now that you have thrown me out and now that I am living with my daddy's baggage you set me up for an opportunity that my daddy will never have because now I'm now in a place that I can have a one-on-one encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ that is going to cancel the generational curse that's in my family and there will be no more unclean people in my family I have not encountered with Jesus might I suggest to somebody that by the time this week is over if you've had a true encounter with Jesus Christ there are some generational curses that will end with you you will be the last person in your family that will be on welfare that will be alcohol that that will be run in the street that will be hustling because the curse is going to stop with you because you got an opportunity that other folk did not have but what you got to understand ladies and gentlemen is that the opportunity of a lifetime only lasts during the lifetime of the opportunity I got rewind in my mind the opportunity of a lifetime only lasts during the lifetime of the opportunity you've missed it Jesus is not stopping by he's passing by and as far as we know you sir are not on his agenda he's in route out of jericho to jerusalem to go die for the sins of humanity and you've only got a short window lord I can't get no help here you've only got a short window for your life to change for the rest of your life kind of help somebody and tell you ladies and gentlemen the best opportunities in your life are those you have no time to prepare for [Music] I said the best opportunities in your life those you don't not have time to prepare for they're gonna come your way and you gotta respond when they come you don't have time to go get it together you don't have time to go fixed up you don't have time to go pitch your life right you've got time to go forgive people you don't have time to go rectify what's wrong when the opportunity comes you've got to move and that's where your faith is gonna come into operation because you've got to maximize opportunity during the worst time in your life broke here comes Jesus here comes Jesus here comes easy alright you still ain't getting it his life is that it's worth speak but here comes Jesus I don't have time to get mad at people who put me out of town just because I'm living with my dad is baggage here come Jesus anybody in here will testify the good news of this text is that God will give you opportunities watch this even when you don't have time to get yourself together the lifetime of the opportunity is a short window that you don't have to move when Jesus is coming back and here's the context that presents the problem for the opportunity he's coming at a time you can't see it you don't want to help me preach this I'll shout myself the tech says he's wrong there is no announcement there is no update there is no forecast and when he comes you don't see him coming now the worst part about not seeing him coming is that when he comes you don't even know if he see you [Applause] cuz when you're blind you can't see and let alone you can't see who see you I can't get no help sometimes ladies and gentlemen that's the context of faith because when you operating by faith it's not based on what you see it's based on what you're here paint comes by hearing okay come on come on grab the Bible when he heard that Jesus was coming by he acted you missed it he heard that Jesus was coming by he acted you don't have time to see it when you're moving by faith you only act and offer what you hear cause people who walk by faith understand that their ears are there I ain't got no faith folk in here so let me find the people who understand that when you really walk by faith you know see how is gonna happen you don't know weird is don't happen you don't even know who God goes in to make it happen but your heart is here it was enough [Applause] he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was in the vicinity and when he heard it was a blessing yo because it means that bartemaeus life was gone change watch this off of evangelism because if he heard that Jesus was in the vicinity did it means somebody headed Street Jesus and not a saint aware of Jesus [Music] nobody's don't get saved as long as you stay locked in your Sunday morning clothes but I need some people who's got a Street Jesus who will call him on your child call him at work call in in the mall calling in the gas station cuz it's some blind people in the street who need to hear you call Jesus not in your saints aware it but in the street he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was in the vicinity his life changed because of Street evangelism he heard but this is where I've been talking to get to this one look point this presents the tension in the text y'all like the Bible here's what the text literally reads and he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was in the area he started saying Jesus you son of David have mercy on me you ready to fast I'm a travel mug and when he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was in the area he started saying Jesus you son of David have mercy on me when he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was in the area he said Jesus you son of David have mercy on me when he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was in the area he said Jesus you son of David have mercy on me if y'all can read the Bible he did not call Jesus by what he heard he heard him as Jesus of Nazareth but he called him son of Dave come on you don't think when they're in a minute he heard him by his normal community name but he called him by his messianic title and thus now we know what mark records and spotlights brother means because part of Mayors is the first and only person in Mark's Gospel that identifies Jesus according to his prophetic messianic title therefore mark had lights Bartimaeus to raise an indictment on folk who can see because mark wants to suggest that the who can see walking with him got it wrong and the only man who got it right is a man that's bright how would you handle life if the people who walk with you don't know you and the people who planned to you to get you right my highlights brought Emmaus to suggest that blind people who can't see got Jesus right behind got it wrong to suggest that chance comes folk in the street don't mean they ain't been in the sunday school and some of y'all ain't church still a padded right the only man who got his name right it's a man who ain't never seen so here's the questions we know who's blind in the text but who can't see you got some folk in your life who see you and still get you wrong lord I wish I had some help in here you got some blind people in your life who got better vision than people who got sight and the tragedy of life is to have sight and still can't see [Applause] / pastor how long you've been pastoring and your church still don't know you how long you been married and folk you lay with and sleep with and serve and eat steel applying who you are how long you been serving in ministry and people are still blind to your motives [Applause] only person who got Jesus right was a man who had not seen me maybe that's why they wanted him to be quiet custom oh he opened his mouth the more they got embarrassed by man who didn't say just because I'm unclean doesn't mean I'm unclear just cause I'm in street don't mean I ain't never been to the Jewish Sunday School cuz apparently I know more about them the prophecy on Jesus is that those of you who are walking with Him and that's why you want me to be quiet because when I open my mouth I embarrass you who praying annoying [Applause] maybe that's what they wanted him to be quiet cuz every time he called son of David he was telling them this is the guy you've been looking for throughout the whole Old Testament you see him am I still blind to make that's why they wanted him shut up what they don't understand is that since Bartimaeus is a beggar it's his job to be loud [Applause] the other like y'all ready to go I'll shot myself if he blind y'all he can't see who he's asking for money so he's got to get their attention through volume which means since you acting slow when I was calling on you you wanna be to be loud but when I start calling Jesus you want me to be quiet but the text says he got loud okay I'm slow so y'all got to help me right Long Hill you got him here to help me here Texas Jesus went into Jericho with his disciples comes out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people [Applause] come in that's in the Bible he goes into Jericho with 12 comes out of Jericho with 12 plus your question to me is brother Minister how is it that one man can be louder than a crowd [Applause] erricka the only reason that one man can be louder than the crowd is if the crowd quiet see the reason why people say you too loud in church is because they do silent because if we are loud it's not possible for you to hear me if we all laugh and the request for him to be quiet is a request to say man can you be like us [Applause] cuz y'all ain't going through what I'm going through I wish I had about 30 people in here I'd be number 31 whoo look at your neighbor so your neighbor neighbor I will not shut up I will not be quiet because you ain't going through what I'm going through you want me to be quiet because you being quiet but if I put my love with you loud it's no way I can be louder than you would you just grab one neighbor by the hand and tell them neighbor God's been too good to me for me to be quiet so if I'm too loud for you you might want to get your volume up with me [Applause] the more you try to shut me up the louder I'm again [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] I'm letting you get some time to get your opportunity because somebody's opportunities tonight because Jesus is just [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] is that all you got for God they've been that good to you is that all you've got for God that gave you a chance [Applause] [Music] the more you try to shut me up some are easier [Applause] [Laughter] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] when the texts are Jesus was moving Bartimaeus was stationary but by the time the text is moving Jesus stationary y'all [Applause] because sometimes you got to verbalize what you can visualize your slip on you got to verbalize what's the cave visualize when you call gee to open your mouth and praising so you get on your neighbors news Jesus telling moves in your life yeah [Applause]
