complex character and discover how to harness his unique abilities to the fullest I will try not to go into serious spoilers but reference what is already known even if you haven't played Early Access let's start with the starion's description on the Baldur's Gate 3 website so we can start to get to know the character better astarian proud the Knight as a vampire spawn for centuries forced to follow the orders of a sadistic Master Cazador seduce every fool with a pulse and lure them back to cazador's lair free for now Astorian will do anything to keep his life in the light he can see but one way to ensure his Liberty for good become many times more powerful than his old abuser could ever dream of being his body forever tainted by the intricate patterning scarring kazadora carved upon his back and the Elder vampire seems set on sending out waves of hunters seeking to capture his lost spawn now let's talk about how having a Starion in the party will affect us from a role-playing perspective first things first Astorian cares about power no matter the cost to get it in his eyes that is the only way to stay free of kazador this means he's open and encourages evil Acts acts that go out of your way to help others will certainly earn disfavor with him also with him being a vampire spawn possibly his centuries of abuse and captivity made him open to sadistic and cruel Acts some he even relishes in the thought of historian would be great for someone who's looking to do an evil playthrough and wants someone to share in the Carnage in my opinion he would be a great companion for the dark Arch playthrough no all this being said getting a Starion to open up about his background will reveal his tortured side and he can easily make you feel empathetic towards his past great for people who wanted to role play going after the bad boy there is much more to this character but you'll have to see for yourself how the story unfolds so we're all playing a Starion it would be very similar to what we talked about in the section about having him in our party but I think playing him as An Origin character will open up way more about his story than just getting him as a companion it will provide a great Viewpoint into him as a character imagine yourself prowling the Knight stalking your prey but I've just learned that you can now walk in the sunlight and have no further restrictions Bound to You by being a vampire just a tip and you can play any way you like it is recommended to play through as a custom character and recruit estarion and explore his story first that way to explore his thoughts more on different parts of the story now let's get into how historian plays into the party Dynamic and possible gameplay options for him so most of the knowledge I'm basing this on is from prior d d fifth edition information as well as early access information so we know historians Base Class is a rogue however he can be completely respect in the game though the only ones who can have their appearance changed is a custom character in the dark urge origin character also do know astarian will always be a rogue in a vampire spawn in the story so if you change him to be a paladin story wise he will always be his initial class bringing a rogue along is one of the best additions to any party they can scout unseen Rogues have the ability to sneak attack which require you to have an advantage against the enemy and can deal extra damage to an enemy's vulnerable spots Rogues are very agile and get across the battlefield very quickly and a lot further while in combat than other classes you also get to choose between three subclasses at level three the Arcane trickster to games of spells to help you in and out of combat the thief to gain fast hands was grants you additional bonus action and Second Story work which gains resistance to fall damage and third the Assassin we don't have access to this one yet so it may differ from the tabletop version but you get assassinated you have an advantage on Attack rules against any creature that hasn't taken a turn in combat yet in addition any hit you score against a creature that is surprised is automatically a critical hit on top of this Astorian gets the ability vampire bite you suck the blood from a living creature and regained hit points and deal damage to the enemy once per short rest biting a creature doesn't break stealth and if the target is humanoid you become happy and the target becomes bloodless in a happy State you gain a plus one to attack rules saving throws at most ability checks while the bloodless Target gets a minus one additionally since you can multi-class I did want to give some suggestions to multi-class historian my main two choices will be gloomstocker Ranger and way of the Shadow Monk for the gloomstocker ranger The Dread ambusher ability is really cool at the start of each turn of combat if you take the attack action on that turn you can make an additional weapon attack as part of the action for the way of the Shadow monk Shadow step can be really fun and advantageous to move around the battlefield what this ability does unless you move from
