Baldur's Gate 3 Q&A - Spell Slots & Spellcasting

what's up everybody renphil here welcome back to another Baldur's Gate 3 video and today we're doing a little bit of q a I've got a question over here that one of our community members asked on a YouTube video and I thought it was interesting enough that I wanted to answer in a video format as opposed to just answering the text I did obviously answer it on text but we're giving some more uh details here in this video anybody who's out there who has questions feel free to drop them in the comments section of any video you see of mine in Boulder Skate 3 you can also do it in Discord either way I do tend to go through a few hundred comments every single day as often as I can and occasionally I will pull one out make a video around it like this so if you want yours to be featured don't forget to like subscribe hit the Bell icon so you never miss an update join the Discord links are down below and let's get to the questions so bobbyford6917 asks howdy thanks for the detailed video two questions never having played D that confused me during the Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access which I only played early on upon using a prepared spell you can't use it again until you short rest or long rest depending on your class and they'll spell itself yes or no I got so confused by this if memory serves and it often doesn't at this point in my life hashtag go Geezer Gamers if my max level spell is level two and I use that spell I'm done as noted in my first question but if you use my level 1 version of this Bell I can use it twice yes or no number two appreciate the videos um this is on one of my spell casting videos this is a very interesting question so this short version is that somewhat yes um the key here is that if you have a spell that's you know say it's a level three spell um and you have two level three slots available to your character then you can cast that level three spell twice um if you have three slots you can cast it Thrice so on and so forth and you get more spell uh more spell slots per level as you gain levels with your character so you might start off with and I'm just using as an example you know a few first level spell like three first level spells and then you get you know your first second level spell then you get you know two second four first and then you might get one three two two four one things of that nature and you will eventually get more access to lower level spell slots as you go up the key here because one of the things that is in your question if I use my level one version of the spell I can use it twice the caveat to this is that you can only cast the minimum level of a spell at whatever is the minimum level of the spell so if it's a first level spell then you you can absolutely like magic Missile is a good example you have you know a first level version second level version third level version so on and so forth and each level gives you another missile to shoot out and you get to choose when you're casting magic Missile which version of that you cast now as long as you have an available spell slot of that level you can cast magic of that level however if you look at something like Fireball which is the third level spell you can never cast that as a level one spell it is only ever going to be a minimum of level three and then going up from there um so yes but also that's the expanded answer on how to do spell casting and the fact that yes you can cast multiple versions of the same spell as long as you have open spell slots for whatever level of that spell you're trying to cast so hopefully that answers that question to the degree that you needed and clears up any confusion as always those of you who want more stuff answered feel free to drop it in the comments below here or over in the Discord I stream daily at 11 A.M central time so hopefully we'll see you in the next live stream don't forget to like subscribe hit that Bell icon so you never miss an update join if you can as a member to support drop super chats and super thanks and I'll see everybody in the next video or live stream until then stay safe and happy gaming
