okay okay that's a lot of stuff ladies gentlemen and adventurers of all ages Baldur's Gate 3 has been officially released for over a day now and as you start to dive into the game and explore you might find yourself with one big question how do you make a build in this game for your character how do you specialize in a way that is effective well hardcore dungeons of dragons 5e fans will probably already have lots of plans for this but if you only think of this game from the 5e perspective you miss out on something massive and a few other smaller things too so first let's start off with your choice of race and sub race as this as well as your character's appearance importantly are the only parts of your character creation that cannot really be changed afterwards so you want to choose this quite carefully if you know what class and subclass you 100 want to stick to the entire Journey then you can try to build around that of course for example let's say that you want to go Champion subclass fighter this lets you More Often by doubling the crit window a great fit of a race for that would be a half orc this race has dark vision which is great for anyone really a positive bonus for sure you also get Relentless endurance which is like like a mini automatic cheat death mechanic if you take too much damage but then the part that fits most is Savage attack getting a critical hit with a melee weapon does triple damage instead of double four half Orcs which makes it a very natural Synergy with a subclasses based around getting Critical Hits more often so if you know for sure what class and subclass that you want for your entire Journey look into the bonus features of each race and find something like that that just makes sense for you in the early access your stats would be tied to the race that you chose which makes it a lot less flexible what race you wanted to choose with each of the classes but in the full release of course the ability points are not only tied to your class instead but you can also fully customize them how you please whenever you want to with that said there is a way within act 1 itself that early to unlock the ability to change your class completely this lets you choose a new class a new subclass if you're at the right level for that change your ability points however you want as well and just essentially reset everything that is in your background and your race so if you are someone who can see yourself using the system to try out a bunch of different classes until you find the one that feels right for you you might want to pick a more neutral but strong Race Choice such as a human for a more basic set of bonuses a what elf for some bonus movement weapon proficiencies dark vision all good stuff or if you don't care about pure efficiency you can always just choose to have the character look however you want them to look because again this is the one thing that can't change so you want to be sure that it's something you're happy with once you get past that you have 12 classes to choose from each of these have a number of subclasses as well the majority have three whereas one like wizard has eight so these are of course just the general class fantasies but the subclasses are where major decisions are properly made some classes choose their subclass at level one others have to wait until around level 3 which can be a bit late so let's say that you chose fighter in character creation had no idea what the subclasses were going to be as a result because it's a level 3 subclass class built strength for big heavy weapon fun because it made sense for the fighter then he hit Level 3 and you see Eldritch Knight as an option oh that looks really cool but it says that it uses intelligence as its casting ability and I have no intelligence well you can respect it's as easy as that the biggest difference between Baldur's Gate 3 and actually playing Dungeons and Dragons is that you can respect at any given moment moment that you want to in the camp and you can use this to do what is best for you at any given point in time meaning that you can switch it up as you progress rather than having to stick with one thing and just slowly upgrading it you can play full strength fighter up to level 3 then become an Elders Knight with proper intelligence as well at level 3 reset your ability points give yourself some intelligence just for 100 gold that's the whole cost no problem at all that said you do need to be aware even past that of the way that abilities matter to different classes for example all spellcasters have a spell casting modifier that is one of your abilities wisdom for clerics Rangers and Druids Charisma for Sorcerers warlocks paladins and bards then intelligence for wizards and Eldritch Knight Fighters specifically for those classes you need to weigh how much you care about your melee prowess versus your spell casting ability but either way you'll find yourself dumping a lot of your ability points in your spell casting modifier and a lot of them into either strength or decks if you still want to have some melee weapon options when you're running out of spell slots as for melee Focus characters it becomes much simpler you really just care about strength or dexterity mainly depending on your weapon of choice then constitution for the extra HP maybe some Charisma if you really want to be a talker as well past that you really want to decide what your role in the party will be this will generally come fully into form as you pick your subclass properly and have to make further decisions on what kind of bonuses you're going to get there is a more tank focused role which is an important one where you build yourself to stay in the melee range of all the enemies and just soak up as much incoming damage as possible knowing that you can resist it better than most of your other party members there is a more damaging melee role as well like a rogue for example or a more damage focused fighter even built for melee range but in more of a damage dealing Type of Way rather than taking damage capacity there is a range damage roll of some sort which is usually either a spellcaster like a wizard or just a ranged weapon user like a ranger for example something of that descript usually and then you always just genuinely always want a Healer in your party just the one that grabs all the support spells Buffs Restorations everything to keep your party Trucking along long term is that is one of the most useful things you can have so pick one of these roles and build towards it become a circle of the moon bear Druid become a full damage evocation wizard just pick an idea you enroll with it and see if you like it and again if you find yourself not enjoying it you can always change it anyways and it's pretty cheap to do so but the idea of this is this helps you focus on the type of bonus skills or spells that you want to grab as you level up and it can also impact the next part of the creating and build conversation which is Feats or ability Point improvements at level 4 8 and 12. look through the Feats if any of them makes you genuinely excited to have then just give it a go but nine times out of ten if you're looking for Pure efficiency when you hit Level 4 in a class the best use of this is actually the ability Point Improvement to push your main stat into the next break point Feats are fun don't get me wrong and some of them in the right build could be worth an absolute load but in more situations than not for more classes than not as boring as it is the statistical Improvement will just do more for you in the long run at this point I do also want to talk about party composition in a more General way as well as mentioned earlier you can of course change your class in subclass at any time but you can also do exactly the same thing for your companions while you're at Camp just walk them over to get them to have the conversation I use this to turn and Shadow heart into a life domain cleric to be my healer for example but you can fully change the class and subclass of any companion that you get and this way you can build a proper party composition around yourself while also getting to experience the companion story lines that you wanted to explore then the last major thing here is multi-classing multi-classing is a thing in the game and you can of course do it in Baldur's Gate 3 and people who really love getting into the nitty-gritty of character creation and Dungeons and Dragons probably already have some ideas banked up they want to try as far as multi-classing goes and yeah it works it's worth it in this game if you want to most everything that you could theorize would work well together should work well together but I will say for the more casual players that I would definitely just mess around with a single class for now it's all you need and you can always try out multi-classing later especially because I wouldn't recommend multi-classing in general until you've at least hit level five or six in your main class so you've got some time to work it out but the idea is putting two or three of your total levels into a second class to unlock one or more of its major benefits and change the way that your synergies go together the big thing that I would keep in mind is anything more than and four levels into a second class is very extreme I would not recommend that more often than not I would recommend two levels on a secondary class unless you're after something incredibly specific then you could maybe bump it to three and even then sticking to one class is still more than good enough if you don't want to get bogged down and all that stuff if that's all you want to do is level cap in the game is only 12 anyways it's not a massive deal with that then there is one final thing to consider and it is a very personal consideration do you want to know what items are out there to find in the game do you want to look up what the items are and actually progress towards them because this is a video game and not an actual d d campaign and that means that the items are pretty much just in set locations same for every person playing the game same rewards for every interaction you could ever do as a result you can always look up the fancier weapons that are in the game from the start come up with a fun build that would synergize with one of those weapons or general pieces of equipment and then slowly build yourself towards it but for a lot of people especially on the first playthrough you just want to go in as blind as you can really just to have the most fun it's the best way to experience this game and so I would recommend not thinking too much about items that you haven't seen yourself but if you do come across a cool magic item in the game while you're playing that makes you interested in building around it just go talk to your main man Withers in the camp and Order up a class change to actually use it then you don't have to plan around unknown knowledge you can adjust to it as it comes up and that is a truly beautiful part of this game and why I'm so happy that there's a proper respect mechanic that isn't even that expensive to do and that's really it everyone as concise to break down as I could possibly give for how to create your own builds for your class in Baldur's Gate 3. all it really requires is an understanding of various roles in a party what fits within those roles and how to make the most of your characters slot within your party too as well as how to make your companions fit better around you within that party I hope you've enjoyed this video and I hope it helps you out in some way like if
