and so prepare ourselves to celebrate these sacred mysteries i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that have greatly said in my thoughts in my words and in the word of god and in what i felt to do through my fault through my fault through my most beloved therefore four years blessed mary ever virgin and all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us everlasting life lord have mercy lord have mercy christ have mercy christ have mercy lord have mercy let us pray grant oh lord that we may begin with holy fasting this campaign of christian service so that as we take up battle against spiritual evils we may be armed with the weapons of self-restraint through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever a reading from the book of the prophet joel even now says the lord return to me with your whole heart with fasting and weeping and mourning rend your hearts not your garments and return to the lord your god for gracious and merciful is he slow to anger rich in kindness and relenting in punishment perhaps he will again relent and leave behind him a blessing offerings and libations for the lord your god blow the trumpet in zion proclaim a fast call an assembly gather the people notify the congregation assemble the elders gather the children and the infants at the breast let the bridegroom quit his room and the bride her chamber between the porch and the altar let the priests and the ministers of the lord weep and say spare o lord your people and make not your heritage a reproach with the nations ruling over them why should they say among the peoples where is their god then the lord was stirred to concern for his land and took pity on his people the word of the lord be merciful o lord for we have sinned be merciful o lord for we have sinned have mercy on me o god in your goodness in your greatness of your compassion wipe out my offense thoroughly wash me from my guilt and of my sin cleanse me be merciful o lord for we have sinned for i acknowledge my offense and my sin is always before me against you only have i sinned and done what is evil in your sight be merciful o lord for we have sinned a clean heart create for me o god and a steadfast spirit renew within me cast me out not from your presence and your holy spirit take not for me be merciful o lord for we have said give me back the joy of your salvation and a willing spirit to sustain me o lord open my lips and my mouth shall proclaim your praise be merciful lord for we have sinned a reading from the second letter of saint paul to the corinthians brothers and sisters we are ambassadors for christ as if god were appealing through us we implore you on behalf of christ be reconciled to god for our sake he made him to be sin who did not know sin so that we might become the righteousness of god in him working together then we appeal to you not to receive the grace of god in vain for he says in an acceptable time i heard you and on the day of salvation i helped you behold now is a very acceptable time behold now is the day of salvation the word of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ king of endless glory praise to you lord jesus christ king of endless glory your blessings if today you hear his voice harden not your hearts grace to you lord jesus christ king of endless glory the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to matthew glory to you jesus said to his disciples take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them otherwise you will have no recompense from your heavenly father when you give alms do not blow a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others amen i say to you they have received their reward but when you give alms do not let your left hand know what your right is doing so that your almsgiving may be in secret and your father who sees in secret will repay you when you pray do not be like the hypocrites who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that others may see them amen i say to you they have received their reward but when you pray go to your inner room close the door and pray to your father in secret and your father who sees in secret will repay you when you fast do not look gloomy like the hypocrites they neglect their appearance so that they may appear to others to be fasting amen i say to you they have received their reward but when you fast anoint your head and wash your face so that you may not appear to be fasting except to your father who is hidden and your father who sees what is hidden will repay you the gospel of the lord christ during spring times or mostly during summer times most of us plan for our vacations and we like to go to different places have different experiences we like to go to amusement parks you know like national parks and we'll make long trips to go to these places i mean if we don't fly we make long drives go to these places driving for hours and hours and i'm sure each one of us has ever had this experience that when you are driving and going to places that probably we needed to use gps sometimes we find ourselves we have missed the exit or we have taken a wrong direction a wrong way it has happened to me sometimes and especially where there are so many interchanges and bypasses and underpasses you know so if you're not keen following your gps you can miss your way that's the time that you have to stop and look at your gps telling you recalculating that means it is looking for the way to return you back to the main road to continue through your journey that's the time that you need to stop and rethink well i am in a wrong way i need to go back to the right way i use this experience and i want to connect it to the journey of land and in my reflection i want and this year i thought of making this as a recalculating journey and in most cases when we miss the way we you know learned as recalculating and coming back i find it as in those moments of our life that we take the wrong exit we take the wrong way and when we realize that we have taken the wrong way we need to come back come back to god come back to god god because he continues to welcome us into his relationship for me this is my spiritual journey for this time that in those moments that i missed missed the exit in those moments that i took the wrong way this time of land is the time for me to come back into the relationship with god and that's what prophet joel tells us prophet joel tells us reindeer your hearts not your garments and return to the lord your god for gracious and merciful is he slow to anger reaching kindness and relenting in punishment this is what we do during our lenten period 40 days of realizing that we took a wrong exit our gps recalculated and brought us back into the relationship with god and that's when we realize how god is merciful to us how is how god is caring for us sinners and how god wants us again into his arms to embrace us back into his relationship this is our spiritual journey and in in our spiritual genre we experience the same thing sometimes we sin we take the wrong direction sometimes we fail to fulfill our christian obligations sometimes we fail to love our neighbors sometimes we fail to care for the need those are the moments that we took we take the wrong directions those are the moments that we take the wrong exits in our spiritual life in our spiritual journey lengthen season is is the season that brings us back to god so that we can be we can again be in the main road towards that final destination this time of lent we all know the three pillars of this season first fasting praying and arms giving but have you asked yourself and i know we normally first you know things that we like we fast food and i don't know your plan for this land some people first social media but have you thought of fasting that is that which comes from our hearts and as prophet joel tells us reindeer your hearts not your garment that means go back to your inner hearts go back to your inner cells and see what is that prevents you you know from seeing god prevents you from your relationship with god and rent it mend it have we have we thought of fasting from hurting words to others hurting words that breaks our relationship with one another probably this is something that we need to think about not only fasting food but can we fast anger i know this is one of the things that puts us into trouble with one another in our families in our relationships can we first from this and create a harmony create a good relationship can we first from complaints can we first from bitterness can we fast from selfishness and grudges and these are i'm using words of pope francis inviting us to reflect on our inner selves not from outside not from what not from fasting from what comes from outside but from our hearts this is the most important thing we are called upon to pray this time and pope francis today has requested us to pray to remember our brothers and sisters in ukraine right now as we sit here our brothers and sisters are making long journeys leaving their houses their homes everything they have worked for their entire lives because of war they are leaving them behind they are now refugees in other countries pope francis is telling us this time and today especially to pray for them to remember them and as we take this pillar one of the of the pillars of length let us remember them i'm giving to today again we are encouraged to look at our brothers we have a second collection purposely to help our brothers in east and central europe and the event of today and what is happening is an opportunity for us to see what god has blessed us with that we can also bless others especially in their critical moments now and by doing that of course we fulfill our christian obligation of land but again in a special way let's let's look at those brothers and sisters and i'm sure you have seen in the tvs in the news what is happening our sacrifice my sacrifice for this land will help me and will help those people in need so we are called upon to live in a practical way and meaningful way what the gospel calls us to do what the gospel tells us to do in the gospel mayfield reminds us that we are seeking interior reformation not exterior reformation in our fulfilling the obligation of land especially in praying in alms giving how do we do it do we do it for the show we don't do it to show off and he tells us take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see you or may see them do not blow up trumpets because it says god says when you when you do those things jesus says when you do those things your heavenly father sees them he sees them doing you doing them we don't need to show off we don't need to pray to show off we don't need to first show off we don't need to give arms to show off we are doing that not because we want to please those people that we are giving but that rather but because god wants us to do it because those things are helping us create a relationship with god so what we want to do this lenten season is to have a deeper awareness of god's love in our lives and return to him return to him with joy and gladness by loving others we are invited in this length to see god in all things we do say and think the last thing i want to reflect with you is always during the lenten season my favorite image of lenten season has been these images here the broken pot this time we have empty jars we have rocks and dead plants symbolizing the emptiness of my heart symbolizing the brokenness of my heart that needs to be mended by coming back into the relationship with god this should remind us that this moment this time of land is the moment that we invite god and his presence in our life and when we invite him god fills us fills our hearts with his presence with his life that we may continue to we we may continue with a journey and when we reflect on recalculating that journey let us remember these images that we need god in our life i now invite to withstand and i will bless the ashes and again we will use these ashes as a symbol that we have begun a journey a journal of faith and we as christians we are not ashamed to put these ashes into into in you know into our four heads because we know what we want to do this time to reign our hearts and invite god dear brothers and sisters let us humbly ask god our father that he be pleased to bless you with abundance of his grace these ashes which we will put on our heads in a penitence let's pray oh god who are moved by acts of humility and respond with forgiveness to works of penance lend your merciful ear to our prayers and in your kindness pour out the grace of your blessing on your servants who are marked with these ashes that they as they follow the lenten observances they may be worthy to come with man's medi-pure to celebrate the paschal mystery of your son we ask this through christ our lord depends and believe in the gospel repent and believe in the gospel amen um uh um um [Music] hey uh please stand and let us now of our prayers that the people of god may embrace lent as a time of repentance and renewal we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the people of the ukraine and for an end of war we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that those preparing for baptism may become signs of god's righteousness we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that those who feel sins isolation may embrace god's offer of grace we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that lent may bring the sick renewal in spirit and health and body and also for a special intention for lee wright for whom this mass is being offered we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that we may seek to live our baptismal call more fully during this holy season we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer and that our lenten prayer may lift the dead to glory we pray to the lord r god our heavenly father we thank you for your presence and we thank you for you for this time that you have given us to come back to you we ask you lord receive our prayers and grant all that we need we offer all this through christ our lord amen you you blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you fruit of the earth and walk of human hands it will become for us the bread of life blessed be god for it blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you fruit of the vine and work of human hands it will become our spiritual drink pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord accept the sacrifice from your hands through the praise and glory of his name all good and good of all his holy church as we solemnly offer the annual sacrifice for the beginning of land we enter to you o lord that through works of penance and charity we may turn away from harmful pleasures and cleanse from our sins may become worthy to celebrate devotee with the passion of your son who lives and reigns forever and ever amen the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your hearts we lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it descent of him worship together with exaltation may our voices we pray join with theirs in humble praise as we acclaim holy holy holy lord host heaven and earth you are indeed holy oh lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them at the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and the blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this my body which will be given out for you in a similar way when disciples ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith we proclaim your death or lord and profess your resurrection until you come again therefore as we celebrate the memory of his death and the resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us so that will be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread through to the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with the francis our pope and richard the bishop and all the clutch remember also brothers and sisters who are falling asleep in the hope of their resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us we pray that to the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse and the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you through the ages we may merge to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever amen at the savior's command and formerly by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive
