Are the end times imminent? (1/2)

[Music] well as once a familiar sight on many British high streets to see men wearing sandwich boards declaring the end of the world is nigh the sandwich boards may have gone but the message hasn't here in Glasgow and in many other British cities evangelical missionaries have come from the United States proclaiming the same message and there are some homegrown doom mongering churches too why do they think the world's about to end because the Bible says it will happen when people become lovers of self lovers of money proud arrogant abusive disobedient to their parents ungrateful unholy heartless unappeasable slanderous without self-control brutal treacherous reckless swollen with conceit lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God sounds like our audience this morning and when this happens Jesus will come again to judge the world and rebuke it for its sins sins are the end times eminent dr. mark Vincent the Sterling christadelphians you've studied this yeah absolutely HD in theology and biblical studies what are the signs so there's a number of sides there are some sort of general background signs of the passage that you've just quoted we would give you some of those you of a loving God who was always with them but what they experienced told them they were in slavery in Egypt were taken away by the Babylonians were hammered by the Assyrians they were under occupation by the Romans and they were suffer for goodness sake when is God gonna sort all this out and effectively the whole eschatology was a bar and the word is God gonna come and clear up this mess yeah it wasn't about the end of the world it was when is God going to put his program of love interaction that's what it was about alik youth you think we are in end times don't you yes I do and I'm not a scientist now I'm not a mathematician or anyone like then I believe the Bible totally to be true literally fact you're yet literally true Lot's wife turning to America to debate the holy body all day long okay we tell us about the end times right well the N times begins according to Jesus is when the Jews are back in Israel right and he says this he said Jerusalem will be trampled by the Gentiles until the age of the Gentiles is finished 14th of May 1948 Ezekiel prophesied in Ezekiel chapter 37 that the the dry bones would come to life again when God would take the Jewish people other portents and bring them into the Promised Land no what are the portents other well the other portents Jesus says in his sermon in Matthew 24 he said there would be famines there would be wars always no famines there's always been families but if you check if you check the exponential growth of famines from the 15th century to the 20th century climate change climate change here yeah it because it says in Luke's Gospel chapter 21 it says that there will be tsunamis it says there will be tremendous floods there will be chaos in the world K right so those are all of these no no no type at least what will happen can I just see then when the time because I want people in the Bible sure there's a whole litany of evidence it says there will be a major invasion by Russia Turkey Iran Libya Ethiopia says an abaya yes at the Bible Ezekiel 38 you can read it yourself they said they will invade Jerusalem and God will send floods hail fire upon them it says that the people in Jerusalem were going to suffer terribly in the very last days and then the end will come okay I think it's a terrible thing well it's what the Bible says is a Bible well I mean what actually happens if I'm eternally pushing this over the world in Iran of course they're waiting for this the lost lost prophet to come there and there's a kind of apocalyptic millenarian thing and also in America of course but there are people who actively want this to happen oh yes yeah they wanted to happen for them it's a bit all these signs all these disasters are that the end of the world but what it actually is doing is negating their responsibility if you want something I do it well neither does God I can speak for God because I get it yeah you said I nobody else because but you're speaking for God but the character your God is a
