AR680 Armor vs M193 / M855 / 50gr TSX

everybody welcome back to the wind channel quick note the video you're looking at is being shot in 4k on my new phone so let me know what you guys think of the video and sound quality and if it if it looks as good on on the on YouTube as it does right here on my phone I'm going to stick with it at least for these up close shots and everything so what we've got here is the armor wear AR 680 level 3 plus plate and I already did a video with this and the and the owner the company wasn't really happy with me because he thought that uh he thought that I kind of exceeded the the rating of the plate and kind of the interpretation of what the plate was for you know I had done the the 22 inch barrel m193 test versus other steel body armor plates and some of them passed some of them didn't and I he wasn't very happy that his didn't pass and one of the notes that he made was that he thought the velocity was too high now if you look on their website it doesn't say it on the plate but if you look on their website it says that this is rated for m193 3,300 feet per second and the round that I shot out of the barrel that I shot I had previously chronograph tat like 33 40 so it's like 1% over but technically it is over and I don't want to cheat anybody if I'm still getting too high of a velocity out of the m193 I'm going to try this Winchester 55 grain 5 5 6 it's rated at 30 to 70 from the muzzle and that's probably from a 20 inch barrel so I'm hoping that from my 22 if I back up a little bit we will be right there in the sweet spot that we want to be under 3300 and then see if this plate does actually stop m193 as advertised so let me back up load up around and let's take a shot okay so we finally got what we wanted 32 67 on the chronograph and the round enter right about here and you can see the hole in the back right here so that is the newest hole right there it's kinda hard to do with the camera so that's the newest hole right there and you can see that even at less than the advertised rating of thirty three hundred and m193 round at thirty two sixty seven did penetrate the AR 680 level 3 + plate I kind of figured that it would just based on either experience shooting armor you know I didn't really think that that 3040 feet per second difference would be would be enough and it wasn't so I also had a lot of requests to shoot this plate with green tip m855 so I'm going to back up and take a couple shots with the green tip from the 16 and the 22 inch barrel pretty confident in the 16 inch barrel 22 probably - I think this plate will stop both of the green tip rounds but um let's take a step back and find out since I already have so many holes on the plate and the small coating had already been blown off anyway I removed it so that I can actually see better where the holes are because I don't want to stack these shots on top of any of the other any other shots on the plate so here we have m855 green tip from a 16 inch barrel as I expected no trouble at all stop in the green tip round from the 16 inch barrel you can see the velocity came in at 29 23 I'm going to back up with a 22 inch barrel and take another shot with the green tip and see if the plate stops it as you can tell I keep knocking the plate over because my rickety piece of wood is near the end of its life so I put a concrete block behind the plate there's time to try and hold it up a little bit better okay there you can see we got 31 97 feet per second out of the 22 inch barrel with the green tip we place that shot right up here near the top a little bit of a dent here I mean just very very small only a little bit bigger down here and like I said a green tip is just a lot easier to stop there you can see almost no back faced information green tip is just a lot easier to stop then the num 1 93 and it's really all due to the velocity at least when it comes to steel plates so and we actually got pretty lucky I didn't plan on that but I believe their website says 3200 for green tip and and you can't really get any closer than that so it does perform as advertised with respect to green tip but it appears as though it does not perform as advertised with m193 and just as a little bonus I haven't shot this into any armor yet this is a 50 grain TSX round that's it's a Barnes bullet loaded by Black Hills ammunition and from what I understand the 50 grain TSX that's loaded by Black Hills is unique to Black Hills it's not the same bullet that you can buy as a component from Barnes I guess it's a little tougher and the pedals don't break off as easily so I haven't shot at any armor yet but somebody sent it to me and I'm going to shoot it at the AR 500 level three plate so I figure I better get this set up and everything already got the chronograph here I'm going to send one down and just see what happens 50 grain TSX loaded by Black Hills ammunition 16 inch barrel so we got 32 28 feet per second and no mistaking which hit on the plate that was you can see where the solid copper round hit right there and know that I think that's actually copper deposited on the plate that I'm feeling there's no dent really at all and even though it was right in between those other rounds I pretty much know back faced information so I guess since it's not that I'm just going to back up and take another one with the 22 inch barrel and see if I got thirty to twenty eight out of a sixteen I think this rounds gonna be screaming out of a 22 so that might just be fast enough to shove it through Black Hills 50 Green TSX forty two inch barrel yeah I was right about the velocity I mean that thing was cruising 3454 plate hardly even moved you can see right there the hole punched right through it there's the back side but yeah 3454 is well over the velocity rating of this plate so enough nothing really wrong with that I just had those rounds and I figured I'd send one down here at this point I'm going to call this plate pretty much used up I guess maybe I could put a couple more shots on it but I think I've done everything that people would really want to see from a steel level three-plus plate you know we've we've solved the m193 riddle we know pretty much what it will and won't stop velocity wise for that and green tips this plate has no problem and lighter lighter faster bullets like the m193 they're going to be a problem for pretty much any steel armor so thanks again to armor wear for sending me this plate I'm I'm going to anticipate that they're still not going to be thrilled with the results but you know it is what it is I just I just shoot the plates do the test and report what I see so as always thank you guys for watching the wind channel do all the share subscribe and all that kind of stuff and I'll catch you next time
