Gah, the whole set up of this bit has been cut out of the video, which is the whole point, really. It's several terrible one-note impressions, ending on this.
This was August 4th, 1977.
Elvis Presley died 12 days later.
Of all the ways I was expecting this to go, that was not it. I was expecting all kinds of goofy Kaufman escapades but this was a solid comedic impression. Sometimes I forget just how amazingly talented he was.
It just occured to me that the Andy Kaufman that you know (sort of the weird guy), was also a character. That you never got to see the real Andy Kaufman (like, what his siblings knew).
Recently watched "Man on the Moon" starring Jim Carrey. Apparently Jim's method acting was so intense it took months before he could remember how to behave like himself. There is a documentary on it "Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond" which goes deeper into the story.
Mott the Hoople and the Game of Life (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Thank you very much
I did not know that
