if you've been following the Mario merchandise scene you've probably noticed a trend that trend being that for whatever reason plushies of Luigi always seem to become very desired and collectible whether it be the legend that is the Mario Party five Luigi or the Kelly toilet we do that is well Kelly toy Luigi Luigi seems to be a one way stopped having notably desired merchandise but wait if all these individual Luigi's are so popular what if we had an entire plush set dedicated to Luigi well what if I told you one already exists and wow it's not the absolute hype machine that's something like Kelly toy Luigi is it's still pretty cool on its own right say hello to one of sanae's most obscure Mario plush releases therein Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon plush set this set was released in 2013 by Sanae as a tie-in with the Luigi's Mansion sequel Luigi's Mansion dark moon or as it's known in Japan Luigi's Mansion 2 this set was released in America a year later in 2014 by little buddy a company that localizes Japanese merchandise for American markets it's a small set containing only Luigi new character Poulter pup and another Luigi this time having a scared expression I guess that's fitting and actually the such small size does make a lot of sense this technically isn't a Mario plush set it's a Luigi one it makes sense that Sanae wouldn't want to put a lot of time and resources into what could be seen as a risky release though it is very cool that we at least got Poulter pop in this video I'll be taking a look at this plush set going over everything you need to know about them and with that said welcome to a look back at the sanae Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon a plush set [Music] if there have actually been a good number of Luigi's Mansion merchandise releases over the years most of them do come from the game sequel which of course does include this plush set but there were some items released for the first game is the most notable of them being this figure released by Joyride Studios I unfortunately don't own this figure myself but just going off of pictures this is one of the most unique Luigi figures out there it's unique sculpt and the addition of accessories such as the ghost just makes this scream Luigi's Mansion and it even has a base resembling one of the mansions rugs which almost makes this figure look more like a diorama when all set up if the majority of Luigi's Mansion merchandise besides that figure though were for the Games sequel for example there's this set of figures that were released by the company in ahaan Auto toy that were released in Japanese arcades as prizes this set is really cool because it has a figure of King boo who is someone we barely see any merchandise of there's also this Luigi's Mansion dark moon statue that was available exclusively as a Club Nintendo reward it costed you a steep 1,500 coins but contains Luigi poulter pup and even a ghost to make up one sweet figurine there's also this figure released by the company Metacom as part of their ultra detailed figures line in that line they've made a good amount of Mario and Zelda figures among other licenses all of which tend to take various interpretations and designs of the characters and makes high quality figures of them very cool stuff well I don't have any of those figures I do have this this is a connects Luigi's Mansion figure if that was released as part of the 10th series of their blind bag figures the connects Mario line when you look into it is really cool they started out making simple mario kart wii building sets but quickly expanded into the general Mario series and the line now stands with an insane amount of unique minifigures it's crazy that this line is still getting this amount of support so long after its launch so yeah there have been a good amount of Luigi's Mansion figures released over the years but what about plushies well we actually only have this in a said we're looking at today so let's take a look at them and see if this Luigi plush set lives up to such a title let's start with the two luigi's in the set starting with the standard Luigi immediately this plus should look very familiar to you this Luigi takes almost the same exact pattern that was seen on the sanae super mario luigi only adding the porter just five thousand i imagine a lot of you watching this video have already seen the original super mario luigi as it's a very popular and well use plush so i'm not going to go into much detail on it here i'll just say yeah it's a really accurate luigi pattern and leave it at that there isn't much objectively wrong with it if there's a reason this pattern has been around for so long it's a really great Luigi plush but the special addition to this plushies of course is the Poltergust 5000 and thankfully the way sanae captured this on the plush is very well done my one issue with it is this a lot of the details on it such as these on the back are made of this overlay material this is yet another material that can fade and crack over time while these plushies are still relatively new over time we could start seeing a lot of them with damaged poltergeists here's something interesting if this is a piece of cardboard that comes attached to the Luigi when it comes new its theorized that this was added on to help support the hose of the poltergeist but you really don't need to keep this on the plush however let it be known you don't have a mint Luigi's Mansion Luigi plush unless it has this piece of tape - white cardboard if the actual suction part of the Poltergust here is made of felt and as you can see it's firmly attached the hose something of note is that the Poltergust is stitched to Luigi if the straps are stitched to his shoulders so you can't take it off of him unless you break some of the stitching however why would you ever do that you can just buy a stone in Luigi plush if you don't want one with the Poltergust so ya don't take it off Luigi's hand here is also stitched into the handle and while it doesn't look perfect it gets the job done if the way Sanae design the Poltergust here is very nice it's simplified but I really like how it looks here's a look at the Japanese tags for these plushies I say Japanese because in Japan Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon was simply titled Luigi's Mansion - if the american release of this set by little buddy had to change the tag but they didn't put the Darkmoon logo on it instead it only has a standard Luigi's Mansion logo not sure why this is the case but it's interesting as is the case with all new erson a plush releases if the plushies not only come with their tag but also a plastic hook hanger as well these basically just gives stores options for displaying these when they have them out on shelves the Japanese touch tags for these plushies have the Luigi's Mansion 2 logo on one side and general copyright information on the other and here are the touch tags on the little buddy releases they're still nice but are way longer and more obtrusive I guess that makes sense though as there is a lot more information they needed to put on these let's do some comparisons between this Luigi plush and some other Luigi plushies first off thus in a Super Mario Luigi which this plush is undoubtedly based off of they look pretty similar the villa Luigi's Mansion Luigi's are clearly at a larger scale in fact the size of this set is very similar to the Sanae Super Mario Galaxy set looking at the Mario from that set next to this Luigi if they work pretty well together which is really cool keeping in line with Sanae comparisons here's the plush compared to the 2004 mario party 5 Luigi this comparison is cool because it shows how much Sanae has improved in their craftsmanship over the years if the mp5 Luigi was released in 2004 nine years before this Luigi's Mansion set and to make this sanae aloo EG timeline more complete let's add in the Super Mario Luigi which was released in 2009 it's really cool to see one company's evolution of a character like this moving on to the second Luigi in the set here is the scared expression Luigi it's almost the exact same plush as the one we just looked at but the main difference is that Luigi is now in his iconic scared pose as seen on the artwork on the tag one small issue I have with this plush is that from some angles his eyes can be obscured by his nose but this isn't too big of an issue and there's a chance this may not actually be an issue on all of them depending on how their noses were attached Luigi's mouth is of course opened but the details here honestly don't look that good he just has a Foley red mouth that's made of synthetic with the red embroidery around the edges and some white embroidery at the bottom to show his teeth obviously since this is a retail plush toy if they couldn't make his mouth incredibly detailed but I don't know it just looks sort of odd Luigi's eyes are looking more downwards when compared to the standard plush and his flipped eyebrows complete his scared look Luigi's expression wasn't the only thing changed for this release however as this Poltergust is actually equipped with the strobe bulb attachment this is a really cool reference to the game and whoa not one though is necessary it makes the plush stand out so much more if the actual flashlight part has a shiny material to it too which makes it look really nice overall this Louie once again looks very good though you do have to omit this is obviously just a variant of the standard Luigi plush this set would have felt way more complete if instead of this we got another characters such as egad but oh well it's fine and I understand why they decided to go with the second Luigi it just makes the set kind of unbalanced we have Luigi Luigi and Poulter pup it's just kind of weird now the Luigi plushies are cool and all but the real showcase of this set is this Poulter pup it was really great of Sanae to include this in the set when are we ever going to get another Poulter pup plush in the future it's very unlikely so it's a good thing they made one when they had the chance Poulter pup being a mostly white ghost dog doesn't have a very complicated design it's mostly white with a few extra details namely its red collar and pink tongue the tongue is very similar to what we're used to on Sanae boo plushies and just like on those it looks great here the overall look of Poulter pup is nearly perfect its shape is entirely game accurate the face looks great and parts like the arms legs and tail are all fully stuffed it's also in a pose where it can stand on its own Poulter pups eyes are made entirely out of embroidery and because of that they look great one part of the plush that doesn't look that great though is its mouth it looks fine but it's made out of this weird material I'm not sure what material it is but it's this coarse rough feeling material that sticks out when compared to the rest of the plush I'm really not sure why they use this Poulter pups collar is well done though and it even has the yellow ring too represented by felt you know this is nearly exactly what you would want out of a Poulter pub plush and that's fantastic I'd be very surprised if we ever see another Porter pub plush so it's nice to know that the one that does exist is nearly perfect now I haven't been going over the rarity of these in this video so far as these are still pretty recent releases and while their prices are slightly starting to rise if there is still pretty easy to get however let's predict what their rarity could look like in a few years from now while I'm sure we'll continue to see the Luigi's Mansion brand be used for merchandise there is no telling how many plushies of these designs we'll see in the future so fees remain the only Luigi's Mansion plushies for a long time we could see them become very desired and hard to find poultra pup in particular I can see becoming very rare chances are we're not going to be seeing many pleasure this guy in the future so if you like poultry puppetmon a plush of it definitely consider picking one up before it's too late it's also possible that a good condition Porter pup will become very hard to find too as it's mostly white if the plush can easily become dirty and stained so yeah be sure to keep your whole trip up in as best condition as possible though that should go without saying I'm also sure even though Luigi's will become hard to find though I'm not too sure how hard to find though actually become however I do predict the scared Luigi will become rarer than the standard plush as not only is it a variant but it's more instantly recognizable to the game so chances are if given the option people would want that plush over the standard one all right these are sanae mario plushies and because of that you always have to wonder are there bootlegs of these plushies as you probably suspected the answer is yes to be fair I don't think I've seen a fake of poulter pup but chances are one probably exists somewhere I do know however that fakes of at least the scared Luigi exist not sure about the standard Luigi but like colder pub anything's possible how can you tell if yours is real or not for starters if yours looks off at all or just you know looks bad it's fake the real ones look nearly consistently perfect sanae has great quality control so there's no way anything like this would ever slip out officially also if it doesn't have the Luigi's Mansion tag it's fake I've seen some fakes use the white Super Mario tag so watch out for that so yeah unfortunately as is the case with so many sanae mario sets be on the lookout for bootlegs [Music] you know as cool as it is that we even got a Luigi's Mansion plush set in the first place I can't help but feel that this set is kind of underwhelming if there's a very real reason why not many people talk about this set and that's because there's really not much to it it's just Luigi and Poulter pump really that's it and hey fans the Poulter pump you got a plush of it and that's great but okay listen how has it been 16 years since the release of the original Luigi's Mansion and yet we still do not have an official plush of Professor egad it's such a shame we don't have an official plush of this guy yet he's such a unique character he absolutely deserves one looking at egads design I totally get why they wouldn't make a plush of him someone not familiar with him would just see it as this weird old guy plush with a Mario tag he's not exactly the most marketable character out there but I think I speak for many when I say that a lot of people would really love to see a plush of this guy someday here's hoping while this Luigi's Mansion dark moon set isn't as complete as it could be I still appreciate it for what it is Luigi's Mansion is a Mario spin-off it's surprising it even got a plush set to begin with and even though these aren't too mind-blowing it is really commemorative Sanae to make this set you know what's an interesting thought what if Sanae made a plush set for the original Luigi's Mansion and you know they actually probably could have some of you may not know this but the same Sanae that's still making nintendo plushies to this day actually got their start all the way back in the early 2000s with sets based off games such as Super Mario Sunshine as well as the original Animal Crossing I'm a huge fan of these older sanae plushies they have so much charm to them it would have been great to see what they could have done with Luigi's Mansion at the time but unfortunately the game was released just a bit too early for it to happen but we're getting off topic here is this set worth picking up I'd say so but only if you're really into Luigi's Mansion if you're not you can probably skip this set or maybe just get a Luigi and or Poulter pup then again this set is small enough so it's pretty easy to complete so I'll leave it up to you and that's all there really is to say on these there's not a whole lot to this set but I still really like it it's a charming small set you wouldn't expect to even exist and while this set isn't the most amazing thing out there I'd say these are worth picking up [Music]
