that's right after months of waiting the Tomi 25th anniversary Sonic the Hedgehog toy line is finally starting to hit store shelves sonic is no stranger to anniversary merchandise starting with the tenth anniversary in 2001 tons of limited-edition anniversary merchandise has been released the 10th anniversary got some really nice collectables such as the 10th anniversary crystal cube and statue the 15th anniversary got 2 sonic statues and they went all out on the 20th anniversary let's talk about that back in the year of 2011 not only were there special statues and collectibles for the 20th anniversary but there was also a full-blown anniversary toy line oh yes the Jazz were a sonic through timeline there were tons of figures plushies and more all branded as anniversary merchandise well yes some of the figures in this line were just previous figures repackaged as anniversary merchandise jazz wear has made it worthwhile as we got merchandise of some characters we previously did not have much merchandise of the main focus was classic style and characters but this was still incredibly cool to see as believe it or not there was indeed a time when Classic Sonic merchandise was not a common thing they also made figures of badniks which we rarely see they made 3 inch figures 5 inch figures 10 inch figures and more it was quite the time to be a Sonic collector all of the items in this line have become highly desired by collectors and some people may even call it the best Sonic toy line ever and that brings us to 2016 5 years later with Sonic's 25th anniversary celebration being in full effect this anniversary is no different than previous anniversaries we've gotten a 25th anniversary statue we've gotten a huge sonic boom fire and ice' 25th anniversary bundle and more and just like how jazz wars made a 20th anniversary toy line the current lead producers of sonic products Tomy announced that they would be making a 25th anniversary toy line like I said the 20th anniversary sonic through timeline has become legendary in the sonic collecting community so Tomy has a lot of expectations to live up to the line is split into two sections figures and Rush's today I'll be covering the plushies but I will cover the figures at a later date do these plushies live up to the hype yes but how well do they live up to it well that's what we're gonna find out today welcome to my Sonic the Hedgehog 25th anniversary Tomy plush review this set of five plushies were just released by Thome around the end of summer 2016 the set contains four small 8-inch plushies as well as a larger 12 inch plush the eight inch set contained classic Sonic Tails knuckles and Eggman and of course the 12 inch plush is of Sonic I'll be starting with the 8 inch line first here are the four eight inch plushies and yes they are in their store display box this is how you'll see them at stores such as Toys R Us as you can see the plushies look shiny and metallic they are made out of a high-quality crushed velvet material it's the same material used on their 20th anniversary pokemon plushies as well as the sonic boom Metal Sonic plush usually in my videos I tell you guys about the rarity of some items since these just came out I can't really do that however I do know that these are shipped to stores in sets of six to Sonics to Knuckles one Tails and one Eggman so tails and Eggman will most likely end up being rarer down the line but for right now you should be able to find these guys in stores for about $14.99 with the 12-inch classic sonic costing $24.99 I'd say they are well worth that price you know since I have it let's take a look at the display box itself like I said this box is purpose is just to be on store shelves to make the plushies look nice but despite that lots of care and detail went into it the inside of the box is just cardboard but everything else is detailed like everything else in the 25th anniversary line it has a nice silver metallic look to it as well as having some pixelated squares on the front it also of course has the 25th anniversary logo on the front as well a really nice touch is that all around the box you can see artwork of the four characters it has multiple images of Sonic Tails flying with sonic knuckles and Eggman it's a really nice touch and it's actually pretty subtle so you may not even notice them the back of the box has nothing on it but that's entirely fine because in stores you normally wouldn't even see it and the bottom of the box legal info on Tomi Sega and more my point in showing the store display box is to show just how much time and care went into this line this is literally a cardboard box that most stores will most likely end up destroying after the line ends and yet Tomi put as much detail onto it as possible and hey the plushies look really nice displayed in it even though it is a bit hard to fit them all into it I'm glad I picked it up because now I technically have us complete a Tomi twenty-fifth plush collection as possible anyway let's look at the plushies themselves starting with 8-inch classic Sonic I'm going to be blunt with you guys the second I got this plush it instantly became one of my favorite classic Sonic plushies that I own if not my favorite if you compare this plush to most other classic Sonic plushies out there you can see that this one has the best details the best construction the best proportions the best everything the colors chosen for this plush are perfectly accurate to classic sonic though classic sonic has been depicted with both light or dark blue before interestingly when these plushies were first shown off at Toy Fair Sonic was shown to have a more dark blue color vilnius was changed for the final release i'm not sure which one I prefer but I'm perfectly fine with the final colors chosen the details on this plush are great you can see that Tomy used embroidery for both his eyes and his mouth which is always a great touch to any plush the separation between his eyes and the rest of his head is seamless now they didn't include Sonic's brow Ridge but that's fine as I can't really imagine it working on a plush like this Sonic's muzzle is very well stuffed however Sonic's nose is actually one of the few off things about this plush it's a little bit larger than I feel it should be and it's pointed at the end which doesn't really look like how it should but this isn't a huge issue Sonic's ears are just simple flat pieces that have been stitched the plush some people may complain about how they should be more three-dimensional but for a plush of this size and cost I think it's fine moving to the back of Sonic's head you can see that his spikes are really well done all six of them are variable stuffed air the exact size they should be Sonic's body is the perfect circle it should be and just like the face the separation between Sonic's stomach and the rest of his body is seamless the arms are a bit larger than they should be but I think it's better this way I can't imagine the plush looking good if the limbs weren't like this I assume that anything on these plushies that isn't a hundred-percent art accurate was a smart choice to make the plush look better the gloves are very well done with the cuffs being firm and stitched the plush so you can't move them around which is a problem on some other plushies sonic has the five fingers that he should with embroidered lines on it to distinguish between them Sonic's back spikes look pretty nice they aren't just flat pieces of felt like they were on the Jazwares plushies same for the tail both Sonic's legs and socks are basically the same as Sonic's arms and glove cuffs respectively no complaints here his shoes look very good once again Tomi's use of embroidery on them make them look very high quality even if mine has a loose string on one of the buckles the soles of Sonic shoes are a different color than the top of the shoes which is a great touch the plush sets touch tag has a coloured classic Sonic the Hedgehog logo on it you usually don't see touch tags be colored so that's great to see here's the plush sets tag on the front you can see both the 25th anniversary logo as well as the character's name on a silver background each tag is character specific which is something I loved seeing on plush sets not only does the tag of the character's name on the front but you can open up the tag and on the inside is the character's name and next to some artwork of the character this is actually a pretty obscure piece of artwork for classic Sonic so it's a great choice to make this plush stand out Tomy could have easily made these like there boom tags and not have included that but it's a great touch that really adds to the high quality feel of these plushies I really hope this is a trend that carries on to future told me releases the back of the tag has mostly standard legal info so not only does the plush itself look great but the tag does as well if I haven't made it obvious already this is one of my favorite Sonic plushies of all time and it's definitely my favorite American sonic plush all of the details being perfect a fantastic tag with excellent detail all topped off with the great metallic look makes this solid plush a must-have for any Sonic fan I definitely recommend you get one but there are still four more plushies than we need to look at Sonic's the main character of the series so it makes sense for him to look as good as he does did Thome spend as much time on the others as they did with Sonic let's find out starting with tails classic tales here is looking really good I think my favorite thing about this plush would be the face his mouth is perfect and yes while one of my plushies eyes does have some incorrect embroidery on it it still looks great they also embroidered the outside of tails his eyes which is something sonic didn't have his nose is also the correct size it should be his ears are big and well stuffed on like Sonic's they aren't flat but that's probably due to them being substantially larger than Sonic's another great addition to this plush would be how tails his bangs are constructed to always go to the side usually tails plushies have his bangs sticking out forward and that usually doesn't really look good but this plush has the bended to the side which is great tails his cheek tufts are made from a stiff piece of felt and they look very nice tails his body is once again very round as it should be his arms hands and legs are basically the same as Sonic's his socks are similar to Sonic's and they included tails as blue buckles his shoes are the unique design they should be and just like with Sonic the soles of the shoes are a darker color than the top of the shoes here is tails's tag it has his name on the front as well as artwork of him on the inside this art actually brings up an interesting detail notice how on the tag tails appears to be a lot darker of an orange color than he is on the plush when I think of classic tails I think of him with that orange color as it's the color that was used in the original games as well as a majority of his artwork however in Sonic Generations classic tails was given a lighter shade of orange almost being a yellow color most likely to make and match up more with his modern counterpart this isn't really a complaint or a problem with this plush more just a personal preference I have it would be interesting to see what this plush would have looked like if it used classic tails his original color though as a whole this plush is just as good as the sonic in fact it makes a perfect companion to the sonic plush so if you're gonna get any of these plushies I suggest at least getting Sonic and Tails and that brings us the next plush in this set classic Knuckles the Echidna you just can't have a good classic Sonic set without the main trio so it's fantastic to see that Tomi made classic knuckles and just like the rest of the set he looks really good comparing it to official art they pretty much captured everything perfectly or at least as perfectly as a $15 plush could starting with the eyes you can see that he is a unique eye design unlike the others which is very nice his muzzle was also very well done as is his nose which is just the right size for knuckles his head as a whole looks incredibly accurate his dreads look really good the back ones are all stitched together and they're all firmly stopped his body isn't round instead being more of a square shape which is kind of an accurate to classic knuckles as even though his body is longer than Sonic and Tails it should still be round it still works though the crescent moon shape on his chest is interesting as it's one of the few parts of any of these 8ish plushies that isn't made of the crushed velvet material I wonder why that is all of the other plushies in this sets hands are the same but Knuckles has his signature boxing gloves he thankfully does not have any fingers and his knuckles are well-represented knuckles has his iconic green cups though his cups seem to be just green versions of Sonic socks which they shouldn't be so there is one inaccuracy with this plush his shoes however are very nice sporting some quality embroidery on his metal plates and of course he has the metal treads on the bottom of his shoes which looked very nice given the metallic look these plushies have here's Knuckles his tag once again having his name as well as some nice knuckles artwork there isn't much else you can say on knuckles he's just a really nice plush once again I recommend him and last but not least here's classic Eggman this is hands down the best classic Eggman plush we have ever gotten it easily beats out the GE classic Eggman and in my opinion it's better than the older UFO capture Eggman plushies it's interesting to note that this plush is the only plush in this line that Jazwares didn't make so if you already have their Sonic Tails and Knuckles this Eggman would fit in pretty well if classic Sonic is in my favorite in the set then classic Eggman definitely is he's definitely the most detailed plush out of the set and he's also kinda sorta in scale with the others the rest are 8 inches will Eggman his 9 inches seriously just look at that face how could you say no to that face he has embroidery on both his glasses as well as the entirety of his mouth his nose is a separate piece once again lacking the metallic effect that the rest of the plush has his mustache is some next-level stuff it's made out of a piece of felt the same material that tells his bangs are made out of however you can freely move it it's not stitched the face and you can make stuff like this happen actually without his mustache blocking some of it his mouth looks pretty strange I really wonder how this plush would look without his mustache as you can see he has ears and this is actually kind of surprising see when you look at classic Eggman from the front or look at a majority of his artwork you can't see his ears so they could have easily skipped them but they didn't his cape is very well done it's a separate piece and because of that you can fold it upwards which is definitely a feature every Eggman plush should have his arms are nice they're a bit thinner than they should be and his sleeves are missing some buttons that he should have but besides that they're good his hands are the same as Sonic and Tails the seam line between a shirt and pants actually doesn't look that good if you don't focus on it it looks fine but when you really look close-up at it it looks pretty sloppy his legs are very stocky and thin and are the correct size the legs on mine always told in words which I believe is just an issue on mine as they should be pointed forwards once again here's Eggman's tag and here's AG man's artwork on the inside of the tag I can't stress enough how much I like the inclusion of the character specific artwork it makes the tag seem very unique if you get these guys I recommend that you keep their tags on because they look that nice and that's the set of 8-inch plushies if you have the chance to pick all of these up they all have their own pros that make them all worth it and there are some of the best Sonic plushies that you can get right now however we're not done yet as there's also the 12 inch classic Sonic don't be mistaken this isn't just an upscale version of the 8 inch plush while the plush does share some similarities to the 8 inch plush it seems to be a completely different pattern probably the most obvious change is that this plush doesn't have the metallic look that the smaller plushies have I assume this was done to make sure that the plush didn't cost too much money it already retails at $24.99 and adding the crushed velvet material would have raised the price even more for example a standard 8 inch Tomy plush costs around 1099 while the 25th anniversary plushies cost $14.99 so who knows how much the 12-inch Sonic would have cost if they made it like the 8 inch ones anyway another difference with this plush is that it comes in its own display box ever since it was first shown off at Toy Fair earlier this year I've always liked how this box looked it has both Sonic's name and the 25th anniversary logo on the front as well as the same pixelated effect that was on the 8 inch display box the sides of the box have the subtle artwork of the four characters as does the inside of the box as you can tell Sonic is still in the box I decided that I'm going to keep him in there as there isn't much of a reason for me to take him out plus the box just looks so nice you can still get a good look at the plush anyway the inside of the box isn't just standard cardboard like the display box instead it's high-quality blue cardboard which complements the colors of the plush nicely the back of the box has Sonic's name displayed on it as well as a huge image of classic Sonic the top corner of the box once again has that pixelation look to it I doubt this was intentional but it almost looks like classic Sonic is looking at it being like whoa look at that cool packaging I don't see this art of Classic Sonic being used often on merchandise so it's a great choice the back of the box also has a description of classic sonic it reads from the day Sonic the Hedgehog launched on June 23rd 1991 sonic quickly became one of the most popular characters around known for a super fast speed cool edgy character and readiness for all types of adventure below that our translations of it in multiple languages the bottom of the box has the Tomy logo as well as the Sonic the Hedgehog website that's enough about the box as for the plush itself it's pretty good I don't think I like it as much as the smaller Sonic but it's still really nice he has some huge embroidered eyes which look fantastic his mouth also looks really good his ears aren't flat like the small plush which is great his nose also isn't nearly as big as it is on the smaller plush and looks much better proportioned than the smaller plush his spikes are just like the 8-inch plush they're the perfect size I know classic Sonic stomach is supposed to be round but this plushies stomach seems almost overly round and stuffed Sonic has some tiny back spikes and a tail as well they also seem a little bit too small his arms are a bit shorter than they are in the smaller plush his hands look identical to the smaller plush though his legs also seem to be a bit shorter than they are on the 8-inch plush his shoes are very well made and have some top-notch embroidery on the strap and the buckle I really like what Thome did with this plush it's similar to the 8 inch plush but has enough differences to make it stand out I really hope they continue this line of larger classic sonic plushies in the future I'd love to see a 12-inch Eggman but we'd probably see a 12-inch tail is next either way I'm sure they'll be great I'd say the 8 inch plushies are must buys but I think this larger plush is more for collectors if you want to get the full set then of course you'll need to get this plush but you'll be fine if you just get the image sonic though if you're in the market for a larger Sonic plush you can't get much better than this and that concludes my review of the Tomi 25th anniversary Sonic plushies it is so nice to see normal Sonic stuff in stores again don't get me wrong I enjoy boom but I don't like it nearly as much as I do the main series not even close that does bring up an interesting question though Tommy's made sonic boom stone they've made classic sonic stuff it would only make sense for them to make modern Sonic stuff right I have full confidence that next year we will see modern Sonic stuff from Tomi it'd be ridiculous for them to not do that how cool would it be to have one Universal line with classic sonic modern sonic and boom Sonic all at once I can definitely see it happening I could also see Tomi re-releasing these plushies without their metallic crushed-velvet material making them not only cheaper but also more in line with their broom plushies it'll also make these original 25th anniversary plushies rarer I can't see these staying in stores for long especially into 2017 so be sure to pick them up while you can I really hope Tomi continues this classic line I could totally see them releasing a second wave of these plushies containing classic Amy Metal Sonic Super Sonic and I don't know a moto bug that'd be pretty solid and if they made a flush of classic Super Sonic Tomi you'd make so much money but whatever comes next for Tomi if they continue the amount of care effort and quality that is in these plushies we're in for something great you
