REVIEW: TOMY Sonic Collector Series Plush - Spring 2018!

[Music] since the beginning the Tommy Sonic the Hedgehog line has been a wild ride throughout the line we've had many highs and many lows but one aspect of the line that has remained fairly consistent has been the plushies as far back as 2014 with the first wave of sonic boom plushies Tomi has shown that they are capable of making really high quality Sonic plushies wave 2 of the boom plushies which were released in 2016 continued that trend with plushies that in my opinion were even better than the first wave then the 25th anniversary line hit and we got brand new classic Sonic plushies from Tomy these were and still are fantastic perfect replicas of the characters and they use a unique crushed-velvet material to give them that metallic shine making them stand out in 2017 Tomy introduced their Sonic the Hedgehog collector series line which features both classic and modern figures and plushies the 2017 plushies were pretty cool finally we got new modern Sonic plushies which look pretty good if there were a few bumps in the road here and there though wave one of the collectors series plushies was originally set to be classic sonic classic tales of modern Sonic and modern metal sonic unfortunately something happened to cause that wave to be split up 8-inch classic Sonic and Tails along with 12-inch plushies of them were released in March of 2017 however the modern Sonic and Metal Sonic plushies weren't released until August of 2017 along with modern tales who was originally set to be in the original wave to that wave was also to consist of shadow classic knuckles and a variant to laughing classic Sonic that set of three were eventually released at the end of 2017 as wave 3 so while the releases were a bit hard to keep track of they did all end up releasing while 2017 was pretty good in terms of collectors series plushies 2018 looks to be absolutely incredible the 2018 told me catalog revealed the set of plushies we'll be looking at today the spring 2018 Tomy Sonic plush set this set contains a new plush of modern Sonic as well as Amy Eggman vector of all characters as well as two plushies that absolutely blew my mind neutral Chow and classic supersonic what an amazing selection of characters I couldn't believe it when I first heard this wave what's happening the second wave of 2018 seems to be a little less impressive consisting of mostly variants of previously released characters but it'll still be nice with the knuckles and silver plushies this spring wave however is where the real hype is I never reviewed the previous waves of collector series plushies mostly due to the release issues I mentioned earlier but with this said coming out on time as well as being as incredible and honestly historical as it is I had to talk about it let's review the 2018 spring wave of Thome Sonic the Hedgehog plushies [Music] starting things off pretty standard here's the modern sonic this is the second 8-inch modern Sonic plush told me as released with the first one being in the second wave of collectors series plushies he looks nice though I do wish this guy was something else besides just another standard Sonic plush we just had one released in 2017 they probably should have waited longer to release another one the fall 2017 wave even has a third modern Sonic and they're all basically the same just in different poses if they needed a sonic in every way if why couldn't they have made them more special there's plenty of easy sonic variants they could have done to make them all stand out oh well he looks good though Sonic's looking to the side while pointing his finger it's a unique pose and for the size of the plush I'd say they pulled it off well Sonic's head is nicely shaped and his eyes muzzle nose and mouth are on nicely proportioned his ears are surprisingly rounded and his spikes fall a little too close together look good his body is what you'd expect though I do wish his stomach circle was more circular his arms are pretty short but are nicely stuffed his glove cups have the folds they should but look a little sloppy his hands are pretty nice looking though his pointing hand is really nicely done his pointing finger has a nice curve to it and is a good length and the other fingers are stitched down and well designed plus he only has five fingers which with the tomy sonic plush line is something to commend because more than a few times told me has released sonic plushies with six fingers on there posed hands thankfully this guy gets it right his other hand as a basic fist not much going on here his back spikes could look better as they sort of look like a little nubs his tail was properly sized however and looks nice his legs are a good length and again are nicely stuffed his socks look great and his shoes are really nice-looking too the white strap has an embroidered edge which is a nice touch and the gold buckle looks nice as well the soles are simply gray with no detail but look good this is a basic but inoffensive Sonic plush he looks pretty cute and if you don't have any other Sonic plushies this guy is definitely a good buy however like I said I'm not sure why Tomi felt the need to release another Sonic so close to those last one the hype for this wave came from everyone who isn't modern sonic this sonic was exciting because at the time of its release we hadn't gotten the new modern sonic plush in years but now there's no real need for another one in fact I think the original sonic looks better than the new one if the new one definitely improves on some aspects but it also looks a little strange in a way I'm not sure for the original sure his post is a little strange-looking but he's unique and is pretty solid looking all around I just wish this new Sonic was something more special or at least they could have changed him up a little more give him something game-specific make him super dare I say give him soap shoes I don't know something more than this and could they have at least changed the tag art it comes off as lazy to reuse it especially one in the past they've already changed the tag art for variants for example with the laughing sonic tag compared to the classic Sonic tag even if they did make the huge oversight of not using the Laughing Sonic art on his tag anyway this socks nice he's a good addition to the wave though I wish he was a different character or at least some more special sonic but a good plush nonetheless now let's move on to the more exciting plushies Amy's up next and wow did they do a nice job with her they really fixed her up compared to the original prototype of her shown in the catalogue she looks great Amy's in a cool pose with one arm down with her hand opened while her other arm is bent upwards giving a thumbs up what if her legs is even bent which is an interesting design choice a lot of these collectors series plushies are posed in some way which makes them all look more unique than they would have otherwise well it doesn't always work out great Amy's pose definitely looks good Amy's face looks spot-on with her eyes looking slightly to the left with a nice centered smile a lot of great embroidery can be seen on Amy's face such as her nose as well as her eyelashes her bangs are a sturdy piece of felt with a soft overlay Amy's spikes wrap around her head nicely as does her headband her dress is a vibrant shade of red with the proper white highlights the back of the dress is cut open as it should be with the red and broidery lining it her arms are well positioned and her gold rings while not really looking anything like rings fit the plushes style well her hands look pretty basic but get the job done Tony has never been a master when it comes to hands but these look fine cleverly her touch tag is hidden under her dress there's lots of nice design decisions like that on this set her legs are long but are very well stuffed her boots aren't as long as they should be they sort of look more like standard shoes but they're stripe is well centered and while they don't have much of a heel it is stitched in my only real complaint with Amy is that her muzzle is a lighter shade of peach than her arms or ears it doesn't ruin the plush but it definitely would have looked better if that wasn't the case amy is a great addition to the set and is a character we don't see too often with plushies but amy is the least surprising of the uncommon characters in the set Eggman is a character who unfortunately does not get too many plushies my guess companies just don't see him as marketable as the animal characters but he's the main villain so it's a shame we don't have too many plushies of him this Eggman certainly looks interesting a lot of to me sonic plushies don't necessarily look entirely accurate but because of that they look really charming and super unique Eggman definitely falls into that category but he is a very nice plush Eggman proportions are slightly off but as a whole he looks great all of his details are included here including his goggles his jacket details and his boot details lots of these could have easily been skipped so it's great to see them all here Eggman has a few odd things about him for example his ears are strange-looking but I guess they look fine his moustache looks fantastic but can be off-centered as seen here the weirdest thing about him though are his eyebrows Eggman doesn't have eyebrows but here they are in orange - I guess they're actually as eye ridges seen here not sure why they even bothered to detail them it looks very strange but it does make him look more angry so I guess it works there's lots of nice embroidery on Eggman his jacket is full of great looking details he also uses a good variety of materials - his jacket is soft while his black suit is not and his mustache has made a felt even on his back all of his details are there his jacket is even cut his hands are posed with one in the fist while the other is pointing they're pretty big but look well proportioned to the rest of the plush I could definitely see some people thinking this Eggman looks a little too off but I like him a lot we don't see Eggman plushies often especially modern Eggman so this is a fantastic addition to the set if you don't have any modern Eggman plushies I definitely consider picking this guy up [Music] definitely the strangest character choice in this set has to be vector the crocodile I want to shake the hand of whoever was a Tomi who looked at the vast sea of Sonic the Hedgehog characters and decided yeah we gotta make vector mister V the see over here is looking at sharp as ever the vector here has got everything one would desire in a vector plush you have his headphones nicely positioned on the back of his head you've got his gold chain which unfortunately is simply embroidery and not felt but at least it's here his scales are all detailed through stitching going all the way down to his tail he's got the proper amount of nine spikes on his back which differ in sizes they go down him his tail curves to the side which makes him impossible to stand but sure looks cool vector has one arm bent to properly give a thumbs up while the other arm is down with an open hand thankfully once again his thumbs up hand only has five fingers though I'm sure Tommy knew a vector plush with six fingers on one hand would have been far too powerful to handle his legs go out to the side and are properly curved and short issues are standard but I have some nice embroidery to them what I like about this plush the most is that it shows above any of the other plushies in the set that Tomy is willing to do any Sonic the Hedgehog character they want like why did they choose vector you'd think they'd choose SPO if they wanted that lucrative team klx representation but I guess vector really does make the line stand out I'd say vector is definitely a must buy especially if you don't already own a vector plush as it turns out they're actually already was a vector plush before this one great eastern made a massive 15-inch vector plush a few years ago it definitely a better plush than the Tomy one but also more expensive if you simply want a nice vector plush as I'm sure everyone watching does you really can't go wrong with this guy now it's time to talk about the real big boys of the set the two that made everyone incredibly hyped for the set all right so get this if the year is 2018 and you can stroll into any retail store that carries Thome sonic products and you can find a brand new chow plush man a life sure is great want to know why no not just because two vector plushies exist but also because Tomi made a neutral chap lush do I even need to say anything it's a new retail Chau plush and it looks amazing tchau plushies in the past have certainly existed with notable ones being the incredible UFO catcher Sonic Adventure Chow plush as well as the small Bab Shou plush by GE but this guy's a nice size looks great and is perfect it's also the first ever American Chou plush to be available at retail stores unfortunately we do not have nearly as many ciao plushies as we should seriously ciao are so marketable so popular and so easy to make plushies of it baffles me how we don't have more ciao merchandise people myself proudly included lost their minds when this guy was announced ciao here is standing with its arm raised much like the render seat on it's adorable tag its faces all embroidery and looks great its eyes are nice and big are a deep blue color and look fantastic it's got a great V smile as well done in black embroidery the yellow highlights on Shou are an airbrushed or faded like on some other Chou plushies but look perfectly fine the ball on the top of its head is nice and round and is stitched to the top of its head which in my opinion is how ciao ball should be handled on plushies its body is nicely shaped as are its hands and feet again the yellow highlights here look great and really make this plush pop its arms are well stuffed but not too well stuffed as you can still move them around its feet are firmly stitched and look great going to the back of ciao its wings are in great shade of pink and have an outline done in stitching these can move around freely and are an excellent addition to the plush its tail as small and can be moved around just like its arms one of my favorite aspects of this plush is that it can believe it or not actually stand on its own this plush is so well designed that it can support itself that is so cool and is the icing on top of the cake of this perfect shell plush another great part of this plush is that its tags aren't intrusive at all it's paper tag is attached to its hand meaning it doesn't get in the way of its face or anything and it's tush tag is between its hand and feet here so it doesn't get in the way great design if you guys have gone this far into the review and haven't decided yeah I need a child plush I highly recommend this guy tchau plushies don't show up often and whenever they do they're always destined to become rare collector's items because people love chow I'm so glad told me decided to make this as well as the 12-inch dark shell plush that's releasing later this year I am very excited for that I highly highly recommend this plush finally an affordable good size child plush exists and I couldn't be happier with it remember earlier when I said this wave of plushies was downright historical this guy is why at long last a brand new classic supersonic plush exists for 20 years the only plush of classic supersonic was from the very rare UFO catcher sonic the fighter's plush set which was released in very limited quantities in 1997 in that set super sonic was a chase plush he's not even in the official said she'd image for the set over the course of two decades this plush has become one of the rarest and most desired Sonic plushies of all time everyone wants this guy we've seen modern supersonic plushies and Jasper has tried to release a classic supersonic but he was cancelled fighters supersonic was the only plush of his kind that is until now Tomy took it upon themselves to finally add another plush to the lineage of classic supersonic plushies and they did a great job with it this guy is everything I wanted and more out of a new classic supersonic plush he looks intimidating he looks perfect he looks properly angry with his eyes being not as round as the standard classic sonic plush and his mouth being a frown his nose is well sized and overall his face looks good his eyes are a little off centered but that's probably just my plush supersonic spikes look fantastic they're all spaced out perfectly and curve up just like they should these look great from all angles his body is less special than his head for sure but still looks just as good as other Tomy classic sonic plushies his stomach circle was circular and his body as a whole is shaped well his arms shoot out most likely to give him a flying pose and while he does look sorta T Posey I think it's a fine pose and hey thanks to the hook hanger you can hang this guy up to make it look like he's really flying his hands are in fists and thankfully only have 5 fingers I cannot imagine the disappointment a six-fingered classic supersonic plush would have been his back spikes are proper spikes and his tail looks great his legs are the correct length and his socks look good as well though they don't quite go all the way down to his shoes allowing for some yellow to poke through that's just a minor complaint though his shoes are just like Tomy standard classic sonic plush and look perfect and the gold buckle is entirely embroidered well I unfortunately don't have the fighters supersonic plush I do have the normal sonic so here's a comparison to see what I would sort of look like next to the original supersonic plush I'd say the fighters supersonic is still the better plush but the Tomy one also doesn't go for $2,000 one slight issue with this plush of notice is that as quality control seems to be a little strange some classic SuperSonics look different than others since this plush is so monumental my brother got his own somehow my house didn't crumble and the sheer presence of two classic supersonic plushies in it allowing me to see you wow these two look pretty different at least their faces do my brother's looks a little more goofy than mine but his eyes are more symmetrical this SuperSonics arms aren't as straight out as mine either so some SuperSonics might look a little different than mine but honestly who cares it's 2018 and you can go into a store and buy a classic Super Sonic plush I never thought this day would come and I am so happy with the results one cool touch with these plushies is that the classic and modern plushies have different tag designs for the paper tags the modern characters use a 3d render on a light blue swirl while the classic characters use 2d art on an orange and yellow swirl by the way this classic Super Sonic art I've never seen it before we could definitely use some more official classic Super Sonic artwork so I hope this one gets released in full sometime anyway their touch tags are also different using either the classic or modern logo respectively a great touch to make the to era standout before I end this video I want to make a note of this this is the cardboard display box the plushies come in one shipped to the stores the box features the dark blue coloring we've gotten used to with the Tomy sonic line as well as the modern sonic logo here along the front are the same pixel squares we saw in the 25th anniversary plush display box which unfortunately can be easily bent but they look great when in good condition there's also a sonic boom variant of the box which is used with the emoji plushies only difference being the logo on the box how did I get this box you may ask well I got my set at Target target seems to be carrying a majority of the new Tomy sonic stuff so if you're looking for any of these target wouldn't be a bad place to check out anyway I was picking up the full set so I also got the box these boxes are made purely for shelf display so once the set sells the stores tend to throw them out so chances are if you want them they'll let you take them for free the box isn't necessarily anything special but is definitely a cool part of the set that's worth picking up if you're going for the full wave it certainly adds to a display that's for sure and that's the spring 2018 Tomy sonic plush wave what I said the only one in the way if I'd say you can maybe pass on is the sonic but if you don't already own a Tomi modern sonic plush he's a great alternative to the original the rest are great buys even if just for how weird they are this set is the best wave of Sonic plushies Tommy has done so far in my opinion not just because of the actual quality of the plushies but mostly thanks to the character selection alone seriously this is a wave with Amy Eggman vector chow and classic super sonic in it how could that not be incredible out of all of them I highly recommend at least the Chow and classic super acai plushies shall because Choni all the support they can get and they never get merchandise and classic super sonic because well I think that goes without saying Tomy has really hit their stride with Sonic this year if the figure lineup looks incredible and they've already blown away everyone with the plushies thanks to this wave in terms of plushies if the rest of this year is looking pretty solid we have the spring wave of 12-inch plushies which contains an absolutely high tier knuckles plush as well as a great-looking shadow then we have the fall wave of 8-inch plushies which looks kinda lacking but the fall 2018 12-inch plush wave more than makes up for it 12-inch modern super sonic and dark Chao are set to come out later this year and I couldn't be more excited for them Tomy is doing a fantastic job with both quality and character choices this year this year's lineup of Tomy Sonic plushies is looking like an absolute fan pleaser and I can't wait to collect the rest of it this spring wave is my favorite set of Sonic plushies to be released in a long time and many of them are destined to become highly desired in the future don't miss your chance to pick them up you [Music]
