if you know anything about the Mario plush collecting scene you most likely have heard at least something about the Mario Party five plush set released around 2004 by the well respected company sanae the plush said has since become one of the most wanted Mario plush sets out there and over the past few years has become quite sought-after and rare the set itself contains eight characters Mario Luigi Yoshi peach toad Wario Donkey Kong and Bowser there are also medium and extra-large variants for both Mario and Yoshi bringing this set to a total of twelve plushies in this video I'll be going over everything you need to know about this set I'll go over each character individually stating their pros and cons later on in this video I'll touch up on how you can find some of these plushies yourself as well as how to avoid bootlegs of these plushies there are a lot of misconceptions about these plushies so I hope this video can fix that and with that said welcome to a look back at the Mario Party five plush set before I continue I should make it very clear that I do not own any of these plushies well besides tone think of this video as more of an overview of these plushies rather than a direct review I've seen many videos on this set and the comment sections of those videos seem to always be filled with questions asking if the commenter can buy the plush from the uploader that's not what this video is for like I said I only own the Toad plush and even that's not for sale so don't ask anyway let's talk about the history of these plushies compared to other plush sets I've covered in the past these aren't that special they weren't UFO catcher prizes or anything back when they were released you could find these in stores from the information I've gathered these plushies were available to be bought in stores in Japan as well as the Nintendo World store in New York and of course you could find them at Japanese import shops too these plushies were released by Sanae around 2004 to promote the venn recently released Mario Party 5 for the Nintendo GameCube they were released around 2004 but could be found in stores until around 2007 as they were eventually phased out by later sanae releases fun fact this set actually wasn't the first set of Mario plush is released by Sanae contrary to popular belief there's actually a Sanae for mario sunshine set of plushies though I wouldn't blame you if you thought these were sanae's first attempt that Mario plushies some of them look a bit off though maybe that's part of their charm Sanae would go on to create tons of excellent Mario plushies the most notable one of them being their super mario line which is my personal favorite Mario plush line to date the Super Mario plushies actually seem to be an evolution of these Mario Party plushies but more on that later since their release these plushies have become highly wanted by mario collectors everywhere and are without a doubt one of the most desired Mario plush sets out there since they stopped being manufactured in 2007 stock of them eventually ran out and because of that they have become very valuable over time almost to a point where it's ridiculous in all of my time collecting I have never seen a plush set with so much demand want and praise from a fanbase and there may be a reason for that do these plushies weren't the hype surrounding them well let's find out I'll be starting of course with the main man himself Mario considering this was one of sanae's first-ever attempts at making a Mario plush I'd say this plush is pretty good all of the needed details are here and the plush has the fantastic embroidery that Sanae has become known for as this was one of sanae's first attempts at making a Mario plush it's not perfect for one thing Mario's overalls are very loose from the plush and they're not actually stitched to the plush so they can be easily removed I wouldn't recommend this as it can obviously ruin the plush but it can be done his hat is a similar case it's not fully stuffed and while it is stitched the plush it can be easily removed by ripping off a few scenes but I highly don't recommend that what would a Mario plush be without a tack the rest of the plushies standard Mario plush affair his nose is nice he's got his moustache though the moustache is actually pretty undefined on some plushies Mario should have very defined bumps on his mustache and some plushies don't have that his entire face seems lower than it should be looking at official art Mario should have a space between his mustache and his body so you know he can have a mouth this plushies moustache goes all the way down to its overalls which it shouldn't the plushies proportions are also not the best as you can see his arms are pretty short his legs are also shorter than they should be any shoes these have to be the worst part of the plush they have no detail Mario shoes should at least have details on the soles of the shoes which this plush lacks the looseness of the overalls also don't look that great it looks like they were just thrown onto the plush without much thought okay I know it sounds like I'm just bashing this plush but it is pretty nice overall the embroidery looks great and it technically has all the details needed they just weren't executed all that well especially when compared to sanae's newer Mario plush offerings here's their newer Mario plush from their Super Mario line almost everything the Mario Party plush got wrong was fixed on this plush his overalls are incredible compared to the Mario Party plush and all of his proportions were fine-tuned to look very accurate what I'm saying is the Mario Party Mario plush isn't necessarily bad it's just simply outdated the more recent Sanae plushies are miles ahead of it and I'm getting those over this plush on its own this mario party mario plush is pretty nice but i has some problems keeping it from being a great plush but i mean it's definitely not the worst Mario plush out there anyway that wasn't the only Mario released in this set as Mario came in three variations the one we already looked at is around 7 inches and is considered the small Mario but there's also the 12-inch medium Mario as well as the gigantic extra-large Mario which stands at roughly 40 inches I won't spend too much time on these guys as they're essentially just scaled up versions of the smaller Mario but there are some interesting things to point out the 12-inch one is basically the same pattern as the 7-inch one but the extra-large one has some improvements over the others one very noticeable improvement would be as shoes they have detail also his overalls aren't nearly as loose so that's good though his arms are still very short maybe even more so than in the smaller plush all things considered the extra large plush or the ll Mario is significantly better than the other Mario's though that's to be expected as the plush retailed for nearly two hundred and ten dollars alright I should probably talk about how valuable these plushies are prices for this set are all over the place but for Mario here's what I know the small 7 inch Mario usually goes for around 80 to 150 dollars tagged less if it's missing its tag or is in bad condition such as it missing its hat the medium 12-inch Mario actually goes for less than the smaller Mario for whatever reason it usually goes for around 50 to $100 the extra large one I've only seen it for sale once and with shipping it was over $400 and considering the 120 dollar retail price I'd say this one will run you anywhere from 400 to 500 dollars that's a lot of money don't worry you think this is bad you haven't seen anything yet now it's basically common knowledge that Luigi is the best mario party character of all time so it being sanae's best interest to make a plush that pays respect to such a character well did they sort of the Luigi plush is very similar to the Mario plush and as such it shares a lot of the same issues as Mario his proportions are so off now looking even worse considering Luigi is supposed to be more lanky than Mario his overalls are still pretty loose though they do have some stitching that attaches them to the plush so they can't be removed without damaging the plush unlike Mario his hat is the same as Mario not fully plush and it can be ripped off and once again his shoes are just one solid color even though Luigi shares some problems with the Mario plush he definitely isn't a copy of it in fact he's significantly better for one thing he's slightly taller than Mario his face is also a different shape than Mario's which is accurate also due to Luigi's longer face he actually has area for a mouth unlike Mario his face has a hallways better position than Mario's Luigi's mustache is also the unique shape it should be and due to its simpler shape when compared to Mario's it's better to find pretty much everything on this plush is better executed than Mario with that said though Luigi does share one more similarity to Mario that being that this plush is once again outdone in almost every single aspect by future scenario leases the Super Mario plush 1ups this plush in almost every way and the more recent all-star collection Luigi improves upon that yet this mario party 5 Luigi plush continues to be praised as the best Sanae Luigi plush out of all of them if not the best Luigi plush of all time tons of Mario collectors and fans of plushies alike want this guy that's probably a good Segway into the skies rarity and value honestly it's hard to determine Luigi's actual value as I said prices are all over the place for example in this availa sting the plush sold for three hundred and sixty six dollars yes it can be argued that maybe this was a fluke listing maybe the winning bidder didn't even pay but if this listing was legit it goes to show how wanted this plush is personally I'd say this plush is worth anywhere from a hundred to one hundred and twenty dollars but if that listing is any indication the plush can go for a lot more but one has to ask why the more recent Luigi plushies are technically better than this one why does this Mario Party Luigi plush gets so much praise well I think I know the answer to that but I'll save that for later some final notes on Luigi it's pretty much the same as Mario a nice plush with some slight flaws it should by all means be overshadowed by future releases yet continues to be demanded by fans everywhere it's without a doubt the most wanted plush out of the set and there are reasons for that but I'll get into that later but for now let's move on moving on from the Mario Bros here is Yoshi I'm pretty conflicted with this guy in the context of the set it's very nice it has some really great embroidery the plush is very soft and fuzzy and it's all-around pretty accurate to how Yoshi looks Plus this Yoshi plush is the only small plush in the set to pay attention to the details on the shoes so that's great but I don't know something about it seems off to me when comparing this plush to official art it just seems weird though that might not be a bad thing when it comes to collecting for me at least the plushies and figures that are more out there and unique are what interests me the most sure it's great to have a one-to-one figure of Mario but there are so many Mario figures out there something that's different can really stand out this isn't a bad Yoshi plush far from it I think it's rather nice it just has some weird design choices that make it look kind of strange when compared to newer Yoshi plushies yeah you can see that this plush is kind of off but nothing's really wrong with it like the mario and luigi plushies yeah they have some actual things wrong with them but this plush doesn't it just looks a little strange definitely not the best Yoshi plush out there but it's pretty nice also just like Mario this Yoshi came in three size seven inch 12 inch and 40 inch not much to say on them as they're just larger versions of the smaller plush all right rarity for Yoshi compared to the rest of the set Yoshi's one of the most common the small plush will only cost you around 20 to 25 dollars the medium Yoshi will cost a bit more at 25 to 35 and the extra-large Yoshi I have no idea it also retailed for two hundred and ten dollars but I've never seen it for sale so I'm just gonna say four hundred to five hundred dollars for this one so yeah that's Yoshi definitely a highlight in the set he's one that still was overshadowed by future Yoshi releases but stands on his own as a unique plush and that brings us to the next plush in the set Princess Peach alright I've got some questions by all means this should be a really good plush sure the proportions are a bit off but it works peach has some really nice details and she's probably the most detailed plush out of the set she has her earrings crown a brooch and the way they did her hair is really nice but there was one thing that's just a bit off on this plush her face what was Sanae doing when they designed her face her eyes have some really nice embroidery and her lips well they don't actually look that good but they're passable but she's kind of missing her eyebrows and her nose those are really important details did Sanae just forget to include them it makes the plush look really strange and almost off model it's too bad because everything else about the plush is great I especially like the different materials they used to signify each detail but they really dropped the ball with her face thankfully they fix that in later plushies the all-star collection peach looks nearly flawless but this original Mario Party plush well I can't say it's bad because everything besides the face looks good so I don't know it just looks weird as for the rarity for peach I'd say around twenty to fifty dollars not too bad but still up there it definitely isn't the rarest peach blush out there that's for sure all in all it's a decent peach plush but it has one major flaw that keeps it from being great now for my favorite in the set this plush is like the Yoshi in the scent it doesn't look entirely accurate to official artwork but for what Sanae was going for it's really good it's really hard to mess up toad his design is very simplistic so it's much easier to translate to a plush than the other characters and it shows his proportions are kind of off his head is a bit larger than it should be but I think it works pretty well like most of the plushies in this set his shoes are missing detail but the rest of the plush is so good that I don't really mind it I really like his face it's unlike most toad plushies which helps it stand out and once again the embroidery is excellent the plush is also very nicely put together it's well stuffed and his vest is secured to the plush with scenes so you can't take it off I'd say toads up there with Yoshi as the best in the set he's definitely my favorite there's a reason he's the only plush in the set that I actually owned and no that's not because he's the most common in the set I personally just really like this plush toad is one of my favorite Mario characters so maybe I'm biased but I think this plush is really nice especially when compared to other plushies in the set as for rarity for toad like I said he's the most common in the set it will only cost you around 20 to 30 dollars if that toad is another highlight in the set Evan compared to newer Sanae toads this plush is still very nice which definitely isn't the case for the next plush we're looking at okay this Wario plush I don't like it that much I know people who do and I can kind of see where they're coming from but I personally think it looks pretty bad his face well not as bad as peaches look Soph I don't know what it is maybe his nose is too big maybe his eyes are too small I don't know his mustache isn't that great and isn't really accurate to Wario and his mouth just doesn't look that good however the embroidery on the eyes is pretty good and his ears are accurate so the plush does have some good things going on the body is kind of flimsy looking his legs are way too small but his arms are decently sized oh one cool thing about this plush it uses Wario's older design as in his sleeves are completely covering up his arms which is no longer the case making this plush rather unique and as a whole you aren't gonna see another Wario plush like this it's another plush in the set that's certainly unique and while I personally don't like its issues I definitely understand why people like it but I just don't see it it's alright but it's nothing special as for rarity he's decently rare will cost you around 50 to $80 though I have seen some go for more final notes on Wario he's alright definitely not my favorite in the set but he's definitely not the worst in the set either it's always cool to see Donkey Kong included in Mario merchandise so it's great to see him here and I think he looks really good Senay did a fantastic job capturing DK his design almost everything on this plush is perfect his pose well bit uninspired is great his face looks spot-on and he has a signature tie the whole plush is very well stuffed and his hands are extremely well done compared to the rest of the plushies in this set there's just one missing detail with Donkey Kong he's kind of missing his entire stomach yeah they just didn't include it now thankfully this isn't as much of an issue as say peaches face because if you display Donkey Kong you won't be able to notice it but if you inspect the plush that's a huge oversight I assume it was done just to save the cost of manufac during the plush and if that was needed then fine it doesn't ruin the plush Donkey Kong also isn't that rare the plush will only run you're about twenty to fifty dollars once again this plush has been outdone by future Sanae releases but in the context of the set it's very nice Donkey Kong's one of the best and that leaves only one plush left give it up for King Koopa himself Bowser there are a lot of things right with this plush for one thing he's in scale with the other plushies just looking at him compared to Mario he's the right size he's also very well put together and he can even stand if peach isn't then Bowser is definitely the most detailed out of the set his eyes while looking a bit cross-eyed looked great and his shell especially looks great so it's technically a good plush but there are some issues with it the biggest one for me is Bowser's stance he does have a bit of a forward lean to him but he's basically looking upwards and that doesn't really look good his face also looks a bit goofy like I said his eyes are crossed and that definitely doesn't look that great but besides those issues it's alright however and sorry if I sound like I'm repeating myself but this plush pales in comparison to the newer sanae bowser plushies the newest all-star collection bowser looks absolutely incredible compared to this plush now this plush is one of the most demanded plushies out of the set so it's worth a bit more than the others this Bowser plush can go for anywhere from 60 to 120 dollars so in conclusion Bowser follows in the footsteps of the other plushies in this set it's good but it has some problems there is one more thing wrong with this plush and the set as a whole it's nothing wrong with the set itself just something it caused that's right it's time we start talking about bootlegs for those none the known the mario party 5 plus set is notorious for being one of the first Mario plush sets to be bootlegged there are tons of fakes out there if you search up Mario plush on eBay you'll see fakes of these guys since these plushies have existed since 2004 bootlegs have existed for a while too and here's the catch the official plushies stop being produced around 2007 but the production on bootlegs never stopped it's still going there are still tons of new fakes appearing every day there is a very good chance at this point that there are more fakes than there are official plushies of this set and since they've been faked for so long bootleggers have gotten very very good at faking them that and given how some of the official plushies already look kind of unofficial yeah it's hard to tell if some are real or not but don't worry there are some rather easy things to remember when looking for these plushies so that you don't get fooled into buying fakes here's my quick and easy guide on how to avoid fake mario party 5 plushies probably let's get the most important thing out of the way the plushies seen in this video or the complete mario party 5 plush set that's it there was never a toadsworth to the set and there certainly was never a baby waluigi to the set for years bootleggers have slapped the mario party 5 tag onto just about anything if you see any plush that wasn't covered in this video with a mario party 5 tag it's fake as for the tag itself it's really easy to tell if it's official all of the official plushies have their tag attached by gold strings that wrap around the characters neck every single official plush has this bootleggers tend to attach the tag elsewhere usually on the touch tag if that's the case it's bootlegged the actual tag should look like this if it looks different at all it's fake the quality of the tag is also important if the tag looks very low quality and seems to be paper-thin its fake the back of the tag should look something like this the back of the tag is also character specific so if you have say a Wario tag for a Donkey Kong plush then yeah it's fake Sanae did change up the tags a bit for the last release of these plushies around 2007 the front of the tag was the same but the backs were different if the back of your tag looks different than these two styles its fake the actual quality of the plush is important too okay yeah some of the official plushies look a bit weird but you'll still probably be able to tell if it's official so if the plush looks off in any way compared to the official plushies it's safe to assume that it's fake another important thing always order these guys off of ebay unless you know that the seller from some other sites such as Amazon is legit with eBay sellers usually upload pictures of the actual item they are selling so you can tell what you are buying before you actually buy the item so it's easier to tell if it's real oh yeah only buy these guys if you know for certain what you are buying never buy from any listing that uses a stock image you're almost guaranteed to get a bootleg also remember how rare these guys are if there's a listing that's too good to be true it's fake finally and this goes for merchandise in general don't buy anything from Hong Kong okay if there are any legit Hong Kong sellers out there I feel so bad for them over the years Hong Kong has gained a well-deserved reputation of just being full of fakes and bootlegs but it's unfortunately true if you see any of these guys coming from Hong Kong just skip it it's not worth it and there you have it follow those rules and you'll probably never have to worry about getting a fake Mario Party plush ever again I'm about done here but one question remains just why are these plushies so popular in my opinion there are tons of better plushies out there yet people seem to always want this specific set of plushies Luigi in particular seems to be the one people want the most why is this is it because these plushies are old and rare is it because they're part of Mario plush history well maybe but I think there's another reason you guys ever heard of a genre of videos on YouTube called plush adventures I'm sure you guys are familiar with them there videos where people tell stories with their plushies there are tons of these on YouTube and I actually enjoy a lot of them too very influential members of the plush adventure community are Mario Mario 899 and super mario Logan there were plush adventure creators before these guys but they really jump-started the plush adventure genre that continues to this day now what does this have to do with the Mario Party plushies well let's see Super Mario Logan uses the mario party mario and bowser mario mario eight nine eight nine uses the mario party luigi are you seeing where I'm going with this people watch their video see that they have a specific Mario plush and then want that specific Mario plush and only that Mario plush because they have it that's why these plushies are so sought after probably which is a bit of a problem these plushies stopped being manufactured around 2007 they're becoming increasingly more and more rare as time goes on but as new people watch the plush adventure videos new people want these now very rare plushies due to this resurgence in the sets popularity prices have skyrocketed I showed you that Luigi listing earlier that would have never happened if these youtubers didn't use that plush in their videos I'm not saying it's a bad thing it's just really interesting to see how these youtubers affected the Mario plush market well I don't personally like the set that much due to the flaws that some of the plushies have all the bootlegs that they caused and the fact that they're emitted Lee a little bit overrated I definitely understand why people like it so much and why so many people want them and hey without this set who knows if we would have gone in future Sanae sets this really was sanae's first noteworthy mario set and while yes they did have the super mario sunshine set before it this was really the plush set that put them on the map so they're worth that at least I know I only have the toad plush at the time of me making this video but I definitely like to get more of these in the future when I first started making this video I didn't really like these plushies at all but since then I've discovered that this set has some charm to it I still don't like it as much as other sets but they're already I think I've said just about everything there is to be said on these plants so I'm about done here one last thing though if you are looking to get some of these plushies for your own plush adventures that's cool but remember that these plushies are rare they're worth something there are tons of plush adventure videos online that involve damaging Mario plushies Mario goes swimming Wario takes a bath etc I'm shocked I haven't seen a Luigi rides the washing machine yet my point is if you have one of these Mario Party plushies and make plush adventure videos take care of them like I said the perta Mario plush history and should be treated with at least some respect look just don't put one of these guys in a bathtub and we should be alright
