occasionally a video game will set you up to fail with an unwinnable boss fight where your defeat is designed to progress the story raise the emotional stakes or demonstrate how much the game hates you sometimes all three some of these supposedly unwinnable boss fights however are more winnable than they first appear if you have the advanced skill and sheer bloody mindedness to triumph over that boss long ago in a previous video we took a tour of just some of these barely winnable boss fights now we return with the best of the commenters suggestions from that list please consider and enjoy these seven unwinnable boss fights that you can beat but only if you're good and or stubborn enough [Music] a former yakuza who was sent to prison for 10 years for a crime he didn't commit which must have been hard to find because honestly this guy is pretty much constantly committing crimes 10 years in jail have left kiryu somewhat rusty in the old street fighting stakes a fact that doesn't go unnoticed by goro majima a rival yakuza who was last seen in the prequel yakuza zero in which he was a playable character alongside kiryu [Music] as such almost the first thing that happens when you step back onto the streets of camaracho is you are confronted by magima who is there to kick your ass to show you just how much your skills have atrophied in the last decade this fight is absolutely brutal as majima is one of the hardest fights in the game at any level let alone right at the start with zero leveling up you've got barely any health no levels in your most powerful fighting style no weapons not even any healing items you can use to try and prolong the battle by contrast majima has several giant health bars a glowing purple knife and the ability to dodge and counter pretty much anything you try to do to him and a cool eye patch dude's got it all what's supposed to happen here is you get knocked tf out reflect on your rustiness and then magima offers to help you get stronger by let me just check my notes here stalking you around town putting on weird disguises hiding under traffic cones and jumping out of the sewer to attack you at random [Music] such as the brutal gritty life of a yakuza however if you're some kind of combat savant you can actually beat majima in this initial encounter it's extremely difficult obviously but it can be done even with the limited resources available to you at this point in the game what happens if you manage this incredible feat i hear you ask exactly the same as happens if you lose kiryu just has one extra line of dialogue about how he may have won but can tell he isn't as good as he used to be still you do get 10 000 xp and absolute fortune at the start of the game which will make things easier although if you beat majima at this point i don't think you're gonna have much of a problem it's just a shame that it doesn't save us from an entire game's worth of this [Music] he knew the black-eyed bastard knew that when my blade stilled the empress's heart delivered her daughter to the lord regents man everything would fall to pieces if i were to describe corvo the protagonist of dishonored as a steampunk assassin the steampunk authorities would be all over me and i don't need that kind of heat so humid because the aesthetic in dishonored is the internet assures me actually best described as whale punk on account of how everything in the game is powered not by steam but by whale oil aka the most volatile substance known to humanity which is why in moby dick everyone dies at the end from a massive explosion to prove me wrong you'll have to finish moby dick checkmate at any rate corvo is the dude who gets wrongly accused of assassinating the empress and spends the rest of the game avenging that stuff with various degrees of violence in the dishonored dlc called the brigmore witches however you play as dowd the dude who actually did assassinate the empress but the brigmore witches begins with a visit from our old friend and former protagonist corvo who is not here to swap tips on knife care quick better say something diplomatic come to collect on our debt did you ever think you deserved to lose your empress that a better man took her life while you gaped like a fool all that thusly this dlc kicks off with a momentous one-on-one battle with the powerful supernaturally gifted whale punk assassin you literally screwed over so royally back in the main game you might have expected a difficult fight and you'd have been right to if you also expected to win though you'll be brutally disappointed when however good you are you fail and corvo gives you an amateur tracheotomy this seems like a decisive unavoidable loss especially given how it turns out you were having a bad dream and therefore didn't really get your throat slit hey however this fight is only unwinnable if you start the dlc in a high chaos state achieved by doing as many murders as possible in the preceding game leaving the world in a grim desperate condition which is precisely how i play dishonored so bad luck me [Music] on the other hand if you go all the way back and set yourself up with a low chaos state it is possible if not easy to win this deadly duel and do unto corvo before he does unto you unfortunately if you played the first game in a low chaos style you'll have no idea how to do combat because you never got into it so good luck i guess a tarnished of no renown cross the fog to the lands between if you're playing it right every death in eldon ring teaches you something so you come back better wiser and more prepared to die again to this end elden ring breaks the seal early and kills you almost as soon as you step out the door into the big beautiful world of the lands between this is where you meet the grafted scion a large and assertive fellow packing far too many limbs thanks to the gnarly flesh grafting technique you will later discover is one of the game's favorite motifs when an ordinary player meets this nightmare general grievous they'll put in a brave but ineffective effort in their first proper fight of the game and soon they'll find nature taking its course whereby nature we mean death that very first death is immediately followed by your first resurrection and some important bits of storytelling setting you on the long and challenging path ahead of you in eldon ring one of his kind is sure to seek the elden ring this makes your initial death at the many hands of the grafted scion tutorial boss all the more understandable and presumably inevitable since it sure seems like that was meant to happen of all the deaths in eldon ring at least this one isn't on you right wrong so wrong the awkward truth is a skilled and prepared elden ring player can square up to the grafted scion and come out on top by being patient wary vigilant quick calm and all the other things i typically am not when facing an elden ring boss or you could cheese him with arrows if that's more your speed hey if you win there's no one left alive to tell your terrible secret in either case keep clear of all the grafted scions ground pounding and screaming and diligently get in your hits and eventually this monstrosity will fall if he wasn't dead from being shot a thousand times he'd die of embarrassment at being bested by a tarnished noob so there you go it turns out this tutorial boss fight was winnable after all it will have been hard work but at least you've got this sword and who knows maybe you'll make it through the rest of elden ring without dying at all maybe you're that good at elden ring now to investigate this cliff edge [Music] damn you elden ring ah the dragon sword so your father is still in the sacred wilderness yes he has entrusted me with the sword while he continues his training he never seems satisfied with the power he wields someday you will come to understand the pursuit of power the ninja gaiden series of games stars ryu hayabusa not to be confused with ryu from street fighter or a suzuki hayabusa motorcycle easy mistake to make ninja gaiden developed a reputation for being bastard hard back in its original ness incarnation and the xbox version released in 2004 was no different [Music] the graceful ancient art of ninjutsu there with ninja gaiden's reputation for extreme difficulty you'd be forgiven for some trepidation when you playing as ryu come up against doku from ninja gaiden sigma a towering infernal samurai who takes the same laryngitis prescription as darth vader ah the field protector of the dark [Music] must i dragon your life yet again the first time you encountered doku is in a burning village in chapter two and if you're wondering just how hard you're expected to lose this fight bear in mind that the battle itself was added for the sigma edition in the original version of ninja gaiden it was just a cut scene of you getting immediately murdered the sigma re-release's contribution to your misery was to add a nails hard boss fight before this cut scene allowing you to get owned before you even get owned i guess that makes you pre-owned like all the copies of ninja gaiden sigma that were returned immediately after this the real kicker with this fight is that if you're skilled enough you can actually whittle doku's enormous life bar down to zero but there is literally no difference in the story if you beat him not even a different cutscene you still get insta-killed the moment the fight ends but that's not to say there isn't a reward for your hard work achieving this unlocks the next most difficult difficulty level that you'd usually have to finish the game to access so now you can go back and play an even harder version of this fight so don't you say that ninja gaiden never gives you anything what about that elevated blood pressure and that eye twitch [Applause] [Music] back in the year 1999 humanity was worrying about stuff like restoring the damaged ozone layer preventing the y2k bug from crashing all the computers and airplanes and not getting got by the blair witch and we did it good job everyone what we should have been on the lookout for however is the earth's surface being raised and all life being exterminated by the big bad final boss of classic time-warping rpg chrono trigger who is a giant geiger-esque space hedgehog known as lavos that apocalyptic cataclysm takes place in the year 1999 or it does in the alternate earth timeline of chrono trigger and the game builds to you averting this disaster by having leveled and prepared your party over long hours of gameplay beating the hell out of lavos and saving all life everywhere [Music] that multi-phase final boss battle is a long and grueling encounter and yet it's a walk in the park compared to your first encounter with lavos much earlier in the game early on in your time hopping adventure you witness lavos the enormous flaming space parasite come crashing down to earth in the prehistoric past [Music] after that you confront lavos in the ocean palace in a fight where you are more than likely easily overpowered by the big spiky boy who is even stronger and more aggressive at this point in the game [Music] since this is the kind of boss battle designed for you to lose as a way of establishing your enemy as terrifyingly powerful and nion unstoppable when you lose to lavos instead of getting a game over you are whisked away to play the rest of the game with a steely new resolve to hand lavos's spiky ass at the next opportunity however if your resolve to crush lavos was already plenty steely enough you might have done a whole bunch of patient power leveling before rocking up to this fight and or you might be coming to this early lavos fight having completed the game before with the advantage of a new game plus under your belt in this way you stand a chance against the might of lavos and if you manage to pour for victory congratulations you've beaten the entire game very very early [Music] now you get a special game ending in which you hang out with the developers of chrono trigger in their to be honest pretty grim looking development studio and chat about the possibility of a sequel i don't know why everyone's looking so relaxed here if lavos isn't going to end the world in 1999 now you've all got to deal with the millennium bug and or blair witch good luck [Music] if we were being unkind we would describe terraria as basically 2d minecraft if we were being kind we would describe it as basically 2d minecraft what it's basically 2d minecraft that's not to say that terraria didn't introduce some ideas of its own to the crafting genre including an open class-based system the ability to recruit npcs with different roles and this towering utterly terrifying wall of flesh that we can hardly bear to look at is this my punishment for saying it's basically 2d minecraft the wall of flesh because that is indeed what it is called it's just one of several bosses that mooch around the world of terraria to threaten the unwary adventurer there's also this guy skeletron who you're meant to fight before you venture into the world's dungeon [Applause] try and skip that boss fight with skeletron though and you'll meet an even more terrifying boss a boss that strikes fear into the heart of any tiny pixel avatar that encounters it and that is a floating spinning skull called the dungeon guardian whatever's in that dungeon trust me it ain't worth it the dungeon guardian is technically not even classified as a boss in the game even though that's clearly what it is because you aren't meant to try and beat it as an added deterrent this skull often appears in groups and deals thousands of points of damage is immune to all debuffs and reduces all your attacks to one damage or two if you get a crit lucky you brings a whole new meaning to the term you're boned in spite of this if you prepare with a rapid-fire weapon with a high chance of critical hits and have a free afternoon you can technically chip a dungeon guardian down from its 9999 health to zero and kill the big stupid skeleton head it's worth it though because destroying it allows you to summon a smaller skeleton head to follow you around like this year's must-have goth accessory keep an eye out for those in your local hot topic and clearly the minecraft development team thought bosses were a good idea too because in november 2011 almost exactly six months after terraria came out the ender dragon was added in minecraft version 1.0 [Music] minecraft's just 3d terraria i've always said that [Music] the point of a tutorial is to ease you into the game and teach you the rules it's only fitting then that the tutorial for demon souls the game that kicked off the entire soulsborne phenomenon teaches you that death can come quickly usually at the hands of something that looks like it escaped from a heavy metal album cover getting squashed by the vanguard demon and waking up in the nexus is a rite of passage that all demon souls players are supposed to go through a rogue pull that at the time was pretty novel and this important first death is supposed to be what motivates you to set out and collect more demon souls as opposed to the hundreds of subsequent deaths which are designed to gradually demotivate you some particularly skilled players are able to beat the vanguard demon during the tutorial overcoming the twin challenges of avoiding his devastating attacks and being able to stomach having to get really close to his gross wobbly butt flesh endure for long enough though and you can vanquish the demon and avoid what at the time seemed like a totally unavoidable death [Music] enjoy it you've got your whole life ahead of you and my whole life i mean a couple of extra minutes to explore a corridor and hoover up some items before you get punched in the face by an enormous dragon god and die either of blunt force trauma or some sort of extreme friction burn didn't bother to use his flame breath or even his teeth the disrespect thanks for watching this video about seven more unwinnable boss fights that you can actually beat if you're good enough making them winnable after all if you'd like to watch something else from outside xbox then please may i recommend this video which is about the funniest mini games where hurting yourself was actually the point and good um and if you'd like to watch something a little bit different in fact a lot bit different try this one from luke over outside extra in which he would like to talk to you about pokemon and how pokemon was saved by some hidden mew code if that sounds intriguing then um it's because it is and you should definitely go and watch that so thanks for watching and we'll see you next time on outside xbox did we ever deal with the blair witch [Laughter] not sure we did i did oh okay it's fine as long as someone did
