That is pretty awful. There are a few obvious fixes.

1) A stamped sheet metal cover for the upper screw, retained by the shackle, if it needs to be disassemble-able, or permanent loctite for the screw otherwise.

2)Stake or loctite the internal setscrews in place. The staking could be done at the same time the bearings are pressed in. Then, even with the bearing overdriven, the screw would not move.

Really, only (2) is needed, and should't add much to the production cost of the lock. (1) is nice, but a stamped sheet metal cover would be expensive to implement.

this is the lock-picking lawyer and what i have for you today is an on guard model 8101 beast padlock this is one of our guards higher-end products designed for securing bicycles and motorcycles when used in combination with a security chain unfortunately I believe this product to have a relatively significant security flaw which I'm going to demonstrate for you today what we're gonna use is a hammer a Philips screwdriver a small punch and two Allen wrenches and we should be able to disassemble this lock without opening it with the key so let's open this package up and get to work now I will tell you that this is a a mostly non-destructive attack the tab lock can be reassembled afterwards however it'll never quite be the same you'll see what I mean as we do this so let's open this up and insert a chain in it now the chain that on guard sells for use in conjunction with this lock is a 12 millimeter chain with interlocking lengths now I don't have one of those but I do have a 15 millimeter chain which should be a good stand-in that's a really tight lock okay we've got this thing locked up what do we have to do to take it apart well the first thing we can do is open the screw that you see right underneath the chain and that's actually why I put this chain in here so you can see that you can access that screw when it's locked up okay think that's out up not quite there we go okay that's out the next thing we're gonna do is remove these two Allen screws okay now we have complete access to the bottom of the lock and you can see that on either side of the lock we have a set screw with a ball bearing hammered into it one on either side and that's what holds the bottom of this lock in now normally what they do by hammering this ball bearing in is prevent you from inserting an allen wrench and that prevents you from opening the lock however what we are gonna do is give that a little tap with the hammer and you can actually drive that ball bearing deeper into the lock or deeper into the setscrew such that we can get an allen wrench on it so let's get our punch there and that should be deep enough okay looks like that's coming out I think that's out far enough now let's go to the other side now I have to be really careful when using this allen wrench because it's not easy you really have to make sure you're catching the the head of the set screw but here I think we've got these open enough let's check ok you can see the bottom of this comes out here we go the entire lock disassembled so I would say that is a relatively significant security flaw being able to open a higher end bike lock using nothing but a couple of hand tools is in my opinion inexcusable so that's all I have for you on this on guard model 8101 beast padlock if you have any questions or comments about this please put them below if you liked this video and would like to see more like it please subscribe and as always have a nice day thank you
