I've thought about doing something like this. How hard was it to get internet ran? One of my biggest worries is I'll do something like this and then won't be able to get good internet service.

A problem I have been told is getting these insured. I have been told it has to have that stone on the side of it (that strip they do that is 3 or 4' at the bottom) and not be 100% steel building on the sides to get it insured.

Subbed a while back when I first found the garage build video since was/am considering doing something similar. Looks awesome!

It's so cool to see this progression.

Some of your first YT videos were recommended to me by the algo, which inspired me to learn how to build one of these puppies. Just sold my condo and am in the process of looking for property to replicate a lot of what you've done here. Thanks for the inspiration :)

Do you have a breakdown of SQ footage cost for finished vs garage space?

what's going on guys today i'll be giving you an updated tour and cost breakdown of my pobarn garage house [Music] all right guys so i wanted to do an updated house tour it's been about a year since i did my last house tour and a lot has changed since then i did have some people interested in my specific house plans after the first video so i posted those for sale on cordair.com i will post a link to that below if you're interested so this video will have some overlap to the first tour video but i'll mostly be focusing on all the changes i'll mention the basic specs of the building but all of the details can be found in the first tour video so we're gonna start outside here looking at the overall structure so i went with a pole barn type construction because that was my cheapest way to get the largest square footage and also to get this height that i needed for lifts inside it might be different in your area but here in pennsylvania pole barns are very common so this was by far the cheapest way to get all of that square footage and for just a brief overview i did start with a completely wooded lot and we cleared out some trees we did some logging and then we had to level this portion out it was a big hill as you can see so we did all that and then we started building the house and the overall building is 50 by 70 feet so you can see we are on the garage section here the garage is 50 by 48 and then the living section down here is 50 by 22. and now we are off the living section end of the house so you can see here where the roof pitch changes that is the change from the garage section to the living section and you can also see that there is 14 foot sidewalls on the garage and then over here on the living section it is nine and a half so really not much has changed outside since the last video i have done some more clearing down here in this area it looks a little bare right now because it's winter but i did get a lot of grass growing down here and cleared some trails in through that brush and now we are in the garage portion of the house like i said this is 50 by 48 area with 14 foot sidewalls so 2 400 square feet i also have an 18 by 12 garage door first up i'm just going to do an overview of my vehicles so here i have my 2005 jeep grand cherokee i obviously did put a lift on it i have bigger wheels and tires about 34 inch tires i also did a full exhaust on it it does have the 4.7 v8 so it sounds pretty good and that thing gets me through pretty well in the winter and does pretty well off-road as well next up we have the mustang if you've seen my channel before you've probably seen this car so i bought this thing from a junkyard it was all messed up it had a lot of front end damage so i fixed all that first then i threw a turbo on it made about 512 wheel horsepower and then from there i started working on the cosmetics it has air ride suspension i did do some custom fenders here so the front i actually just spaced out the stock fenders and then in the back i cut these fenders off of another mustang in the junkyard made some custom mounts for it and bolted it to the original body so you can kind of see that gives a pretty unique look i also designed this wing and got it cnc cut out of aluminum i designed some custom badges here that's a custom mustang badge actually have that for sale on my website if you're interested built multiple exhausts for it the first one was a regular four to five inch single out the back and then this one i just made not too long ago just put out a video on that so that's a dual three inch that comes right off the turbo and then up out the side and of course the whole front end is custom i built that front bumper and i did a custom headlight setup with some rally lights there so that is the mustang it has come a long way there's some more to do on it still but i have shifted some focus over to a new project now next up is the daily driver so this is a 2000 bmw 328 ci it is my only stock car it has been surprisingly super reliable and fairly maintenance free for the last three years it's all around it's a great daily driver i think i bought it for 2 500 bucks and in parts in three years i think i spent 100 on it total not to mention it gets 30 miles per gallon which is awesome for daily lastly is my new project this is a 1998 bmw z3 so this has the 2.8 liter straight 6 in it actually the same engine as this car so i just started modifying this car i put some coilovers on it which was actually my last video that just came out i do have big plans for this thing i've wanted to do a small nimble car for a while so i plan to make this thing pretty fast and also handle great as well all right so now i'll get some of these cars out of the way so i can talk about the rest of the garage starting over here in this corner next to the garage door i have a storage rack for some of my car washing stuff and some outdoor landscaping things so i've got my pressure washer here that i usually leave hooked up here to my indoor water spigot here i keep some of my tie downs against the wall and then this is now my workout area so this has moved it used to be against that back wall but as you can see i've got a whole bunch of other stuff going on now so i moved this over here it works well here the only thing i don't have is my mirrors i'm kind of waiting to see what i do with the walls here to before i mount any mirrors again so i've got a basic squat rack and then a platform that i built for deadlifting so i can squat bench deadlift fine i was also lucky enough to get this multi-station donated to me and that works well too so i was really fortunate during the 2020 quarantine when gyms were closed i was able to work out here now moving up this sidewall i've got some of my extra lumber stored here i bought a lot of extra plywood back when i built some of the things in my garage so i keep that here i also have some two by fours it's always great to have some stuff on hand so you don't have to be going out to the lumber yard for every little thing and now we can move on to the back wall and as you can see a lot has changed first up i built this ramp so i like to ride bmx bike if you haven't been able to tell from my intro so i've always wanted to build a ramp here so this is the setup that we built back in the spring and it probably looks a little funny to you i was thinking about doing a traditional half pipe but i decided against it because i think it just gets really boring to just have a half pipe there's only so much you can do with it so what i did here is i have a six foot quarter pipe on this side and then that goes to a four and a half foot takeoff ramp quarter pipe that then goes into a little roller lander and then we have a really steep quarter slash vert wall here and the idea with this is you have a nice quarter pipe that is great for airing doing air tricks [Music] and then you also have this little fly-out section to do any type of little fly-out tricks and then this vert wall is here really just to stop you because this is such a tight setup so it will stop you and turn you around so then you can keep riding the ramp and after having this now for about six months i would say i'm really happy i went this route versus a traditional half pipe it was definitely a challenge to learn to ride because of how tight everything is but once you do it's a lot of fun and it's also a crazy good workout every time you ride this the other great thing about this setup versus a traditional half pipe is all of this storage that i could gain underneath the lander section so under here i have some mowers i'm kind of using it as a little bit of a shed right now temporarily until i get a shed outside but it's nice to have the mowers here out of the way then i also built shelving back here which actually created a lot of space so i can go on the floor the middle shell for the top shelf so that's the whole width here and that really stores a lot and then i also have some other shelving over here under the window i have some wheels and tires and i even have some space here under the take off and in my first tour video you may have seen i didn't really have any great storage solutions so i kind of had stuff sitting everywhere so just having this storage under here really cleans up the rest of the area and makes it look a lot more neat and organized so now next to the ramp here we have the loft so this is a 20 by 12 foot loft i built pretty basic construction i've got three 6x6 posts here one two and three against the wall i used a 2x10 floor construction this has a double header on this side that sits on top of these six by sixes and then on the other side i am bolted to the studs which are two foot on center two by sixes so i've got three bolts in each of those so that's extremely solid and then the floor joists like i said are two by tens and they are 14 inch on center which everyone loves because nothing lined up with the plywood on top so i ended up doing some blocking here yes i probably should have done 12 inch or 16 inch on center uh in hindsight but hey it worked out and the other big comment i got on this loft is that i notched over the doorways there and also a little bit here and then i notched these uh joists so that i could open the door it looked like an afterthought but i knew that's exactly what i was gonna do going into it and so the reason why i did that is because i wanted to keep an even head room above and below and why i did that is so that i could have the extra room up top so that i could ride bike up there so as you can see with this setup i can actually go up and out of this quarter pipe and then land on top of the loft [Music] [Music] and so after i got the ramp and loft built i built these stairs and that is why i have this little notch cut out i did that so i had enough room on the loft to attach the stairs i did end up adding a little extension here so that my stairs weren't uh too narrow i ended up with 24 inch wide stairs which is great it's a little skinnier than normal but that's all you really need for a garage loft so these are really basic construction 2 by 10 stringers 2 by 10 treads and then we have blocks under each tread we've got nails in those blocks and structural screws in the side so that is a super solid stair i've not done a railing on the stairs yet i think i'm going to leave it off for a while if i did put a railing it would be kind of just more in the way when you're walking around and when you're riding on the ramp so i'm gonna leave it off for now could always add it in the future now i did do a railing up top here on the loft so this was a really basic construction all two by fours and two by threes i was riding bike up here before i even had a railing which was a little sketchy so it's nice to have that and initially i built this space mostly for storage but then with all of that extra storage i have under the lander section i haven't needed to use this for storage at all yet so i think this is going to maybe transition into a little bit more of a hangout space i'll probably still do some racks against the wall for storage eventually but if i can keep this as a hangout space i think that'd be pretty sweet it's also nice to ride up this ramp and then land up on here and then you can take a break up here and then you can also drop in off of the loft into the ramp and i just used some three-quarter inch osb subfloor tongue and groove for the floor up here that worked out nice i did end up painting the loft and ramp to match i did the edges a little bit of a darker color that's really nice to have when you're riding it lets you know exactly where you are when you're going to hit the take off when you're at the top of the vert wall and also all of the edges up here on the loft and now moving underneath the loft i finally have some walls around my toilet so in the first video i just had a toilet sitting here out in the open and you know it's not very usable especially when you have some people over so i decided to finally get some walls around it and build more of a legitimate bathroom and i decided to keep the sink inside the bathroom here versus having just the toilet enclosed i think that's nicer you have a little bit more room to work with when you're inside there and for the door i built a sliding barn door here so i bought the hardware the slider here as a kit and then i built the door out of one by sixes i would have had to build the door either way because it's such a custom size it's not like i could really buy an off-the-shelf barn door and use it so that came out really well i ended up just using polyurethane on the wood because i liked the contrast with the walls so the walls of the bathroom are just half inch plywood that i stained and then polyurethane so i went with the barn door because it keeps everything kind of out of the way if i had a regular hinge door no matter which way you'd hinge it it would kind of just always be sitting in the way so this way i can leave this barn door open and then i have easy access right to my wash sink so i don't have to worry about getting a hinge door out of the way every time the other thing i did under here was add some lighting as you could imagine after i built the loft it got really dark under here so i pulled some power from a light switch over in this area and then i have two lights out here they're kind of like an industrial style i think they match the garage well and then i have one to light up the bathroom and i did put the light switch out here on the outside wall of the bathroom and that's mostly because i have these on pretty much whenever i'm in the garage so it's nice to just come out into the garage hit that switch turn them on so i don't have to worry about reaching inside the bathroom to turn those on now next to the bathroom i have my chemical and paint storage cabinet i think i might add a storage shelf here seems like a good spot have my engine lift and now we move on to the working area of the garage so not much has changed here i'm still using my atlas pv9p lift and that has held up really well totally pleased with that i have my workbenches here that i built the only main change is i built some more shelving under this workbench really nice to have i have all of my nails and screws under there leaf blower some extra materials and then over here this is actually the first exhaust i built for the mustang so that's that four inch to five inch single and then i have some of my extra material storage here mostly uh stainless tubing for all the exhaust work i do and some of the smaller two by four pieces as well so that's going to be it for the garage portion of the house i did build out a lot of the area in the back but i really didn't lose much because i still have all that storage under the ramp over there and then really here i doubled my square footage because of the loft so now we can head into the living portion of the house now the living section is 50 by 22 with nine and a half foot walls so it is all open minus this part which is my bedroom closet and bathroom so this section is 15 by 22 so i have a little uh walk-in closet pretty basic bathroom and then i have my bedroom which i also use as an office space so then the larger space is my kitchen and living room area i also have some work benches here with my vinyl cutter and some other things and i am still using my wood stove as my primary heat source really my only heat source i do have baseboard heaters in here if i need but i really never use them so not much has changed in here except for my kitchen area so my kitchen i built myself with some off-the-shelf cabinets i believe those are from home depot i use some solid wood countertops from ikea and then the big change from last time is i did install some upper cabinets here it gave me a lot more storage it also allowed me to mount my microwave above my stove the last video is sitting on top of my fridge which is not that usable it also has a hood vent for the stove which is really nice to have i did not put anything over my sink because i have a light up here so i think i'll still keep working on this area probably add some backsplash i'd like to also do some under cabinet lighting to really finish it off and now if we go up these stairs this goes to my unfinished second floor some people mentioned you should have some insulation over this and i actually do and i always do have insulation over this because it is not insulated up here so now up here it's still being used as storage i do think i will start working on this soon i'd ideally like to have a full master suite up here bedroom being over here probably a bathroom over in that corner and a walk-in closet over here so no progress yet but i really haven't needed the space but i think as i find some time this year i might start working up here i also am thinking about doing some more changes down here primarily building a wall next to my door on the left to make this area more of a mud room laundry room and then i can close a door so i don't have to hear my washer and dryer running and then also next to this i mentioned before i have rough-ins for a toilet and shower so i might do either a half or a full bath in this area okay so now i'll go through an updated cost breakdown most of this hasn't changed so i won't go into detail on every little thing but i have added a few things as well so first permits planning two to three thousand main structure a hundred to a hundred and twenty thousand electric 10 to fifteen thousand plumbing and well drilling 12 to 18 septic system uh that's a big range because it depends on which type of system you have uh the excavation 7 to 12. this is one thing i did add which was the kitchen and interior finishing i did not include that on the first one but this was just basic stuff uh like the kitchen build the flooring painting things like that just to make the space livable obviously that can fluctuate a whole bunch depending on how much you want to do but that's all it was for me because i just needed the basics to start so that gave a total of 144 to 190 000 some people were upset that i didn't give my actual true costs so here they are my actual costs like i said on the first one land is completely location dependent it's pretty pointless for me to tell you but here you go my land was sixty thousand now that was six years ago at this point land has definitely increased in value again totally location dependent but i paid 60 000. and then my actual cost for my building was right at 170 000 so of those estimates i was toward the middle of each one and that's kind of why i gave that estimate that i did so there you go my actual cost land was 60 000 and my building was 170 000. all right guys so that was my updated tour a lot has changed in the last year and i hope to continue to make progress this coming year i did learn a lot especially by the loft and the ramp build i'd never done carpentry to that scale before and if you have any questions leave me a comment and i'll get back to you if you'd like to see some of the more detailed specs and design considerations i made when building my house check out the first tour video i'll put a link around here and so that's going to be it for today thanks for watching [Music] foreign
