[Music] you [Music] you this morning's Torah portion is korek and it speaks of Couric's rebellion against Moses as the appointed and anointed leader of God over Israel and in the tork portion we went through seven steps leading from that first seed of self and wanting to exalt the self and going down to inciting others in jealousy and it leads basically to death seven steps from self exaltation and jealousy and rebellion to death and we're gonna parallel the haftorah portion this morning that comes from first samuel 11 verse 14 through chapter 12 verse 22 which speaks of israel rejecting the appointed and anointed one of god over them samuel the prophet he had reigned in the model that god had set up god was to be the king of israel samuel was like the model of moses that he was a prophet and he was a humble suffering servant but unfortunately samuel sons much like eli sons the high priests sons did not walk come in complete holiness they were good men they had learned from their father but greed had crept in to their hearts and they were using their roles as prophets and priests and leaders too and judges when people would come to have the word rightly divided from the torah to metal disputes these men began to extract bribes and to seek their own gain and so there's many elements of self that we can see that lead us astray from the pure and simple selfless love of God that is the model for true leadership over God's people God always chooses the humble the the servant leader if you will so we're gonna look at this model of not only the true model of the prophet's servant leader but then different periods in history where Israel has rebelled against God's anointed and appointed once and then bring it home to us today and say where are we heading where are we at today where are we heading what are the choices of Israel in all the lands of their dispersion in the nation of Israel throughout Europe in America today the choices that they are soon to make are going to bring about their demise just like in the days of old so it's beautiful how God can parallel for us these deep spiritual principles past present and future so if you have your Bibles turn with me to well let's review a little bit of Korah first in numbers chapter 16 and then we'll go into the haftorah in first samuel 11 number 16 starts off speaking of Korah the son of the Attar the son of a hot the son of Levi so he was a Levite but like I said before not all Levites are priests only the sons of Aaron could be priests so every priest had to be a Levi through Aaron but not every Levite was a priest what was the issue with Corrick is he has this amazing appointed calling as a Levite to work in close proximity to the divine presence in the temple and yet he's not satisfied with the calling and purpose that God has given them and we have to be very careful we've seen even people in our own congregation who are not satisfied with their calling and they want to control and usurp and there is a plethora of examples of warning against this kind of behavior happening because God gives each of us beautiful gifts and there's people that you can reach that I cannot reach and together we make up the whole body of mashiac the hands and feet and we compliment one another and we uplift one another but when one person starts looking at another person and saying I want that job I want that title I want that accolades or that worship like Lucifer in the heavenly sphere we see this model bring about the self focus always brings about self destruction so here's this Levite who's been given this great calling and yet he's looking at Moses and he's thinking I would like to be in that place I would like to incite others along with me in rebellion against God's appointed one and along with day ten and avi ROM the sons of Eliav and on the son of pallet and descendants of Reuben he took min and he rebelled against Moshe now siding with them were 250 men of different tribes of Israel leaders of the communities they deceived key members of the council and men of reputation and they assembled themselves against Moses and Aaron and said to them you take too much upon yourselves after all the entire community is holy every one of them and out of my is among them so why do you lift yourself sup above a denies assembly they were not acknowledging that God had lifted Moses up to this place and it's making it look as if Moses see how he's twisting the words just like the deceiver does making it look as if he had put himself in that position and this these cunning words are what's so deceptive to other people when people incite division and rebellion and when Moshe heard this just like we talked about this morning not being reactionary instead of him being reactionary he fell on his face in humbleness before the Lord and after seeking the Lord's wisdom he rose up and he said to Cora can his whole group in the morning out and I will show who are his so rather than him even defending himself and we see the same thing with Yeshua you she was like let God reveal who is his appointed one he didn't even defend himself he was led like a lamb to the slaughter and yet he openeth not his mouth Moses says to karak God will show who are his and who is the holy person he will allow to approach him yes he will bring whomever he chooses near to himself do this take censors korrok and all your group and put fire in them and put incense in them before out of night tomorrow and the one whom out of night chooses will be the one who is holy it is you you sons of levi who are taking too much upon yourselves and then he clarified what their problem was by looking at their fellow man and coveting and being jealous they're taking on things that they should not take on we need to keep our eyes on the father we never need to be looking at one another our job is to encourage one another to edify which means a building up of the body but never to judge the wrong way which is picking out people's faults and trying to bring them down and in so doing elevate ourselves a tree judge is one who knows the Word of God and can rightly divide it and rightly speak it and this is exactly what God spoke about the Prophet who would come like Moses like unto himself from the tribes of Israel who he would put his own words in his mouth and he said you shall listen to him so we'll look at some models of even Yeshua in this so then Moses says to Korah this inhere you sons of Levi is it for you a mere trifle thing that the God of Israel has separated you from the community of Israel to bring you close to himself he's saying you are a Levite you've been chosen to be in close proximity to God in the tabernacle do you take this lightly so that you can do the work for the Lord and the tabernacle of God and stand before the community you're already above the whole community of Israel in serving them he reminds them true leadership is in service he has brought you clothes and all your brothers and the sons of Levi with you now you want the priest I mean you want the office of priest to of Cohen that's why you and your group have gathered together against God see he didn't take it personal he called it out just like God told Samuel when the people rebelled against this prophets servant leader model over them and they cried out for a king like the nations have God says Samuel don't feel bad they're not rejecting you they're rejecting me and this is what Moses is clarifying he says you've gathered together against God in speaking like this he's not taking it personal and he's not being reactionary we only become reactionary when we take things personal as if people are hurting us and that comes from the ego that's protecting the false identity but if the Spirit of God resides in us who are people really hurting when they hurt us they're hurting God and this is what we need to see in one another not this fleshy vessel that houses the spirit but let the divinity and me see the divinity in you and love it wholly and completely and serve it and this is the true motivation for serving one another so Moshe sent to data and Avram the sense of Eliav but they replied we're not going to come to you they had already been divided and so they became solidified in their rebellion is it such a mere trifle thing bringing us up from a land flowing with milk and honey to kill us in the desert now they're putting the very definition that God has for Israel on Egypt they're saying we want the world we want Babylon that would be the way we speak today God is saying hey I'm calling you out of the cities I'm calling you out of the hot beds of wickedness and we say why have you brought us to this land that we have to plow and this chuppah area that we're in nature and we don't can't just go to the store and have immediate gratification to think of how God is seeking to rescue us to take us out of the cities to look back at the cities with longing is a sin against God God has called us out in Revelation 18 come out of her my people speaking of Babylon and the whole false system so that you participate not in her sins and you received not of her plagues so here they're calling Egypt a land of milk and honey and accusing Moses of killing them in the desert and now they say and you also have aggregated yourself to the role of dictator over us you haven't at all brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey and you haven't put us in possession of fields and vineyards do you think that you can gouge out these men's eyes and blind them to the fact basically that we're in the wilderness we haven't been brought and this is kind of like us with God's promises we want to see them immediate and sometimes we lose heart in the journey to exceed the fulfillment God's testing us allowing us to be tested to display the true character that's within if you were immediately rewarded with all the blessings that God wants to bestow upon you you would not reveal your character fully and so these people are basically even accusing God of not fulfilling his prophecies to bring them into the land flowing with milk and honey and they're accusing Moses of trying to delude them as if it would never happen so we see this rebellion and long story short Moses prays to God and how deny tells Moses and Aaron to separate yourselves from this wicked assembly and that these people are going to be destroyed and even though these people were enemies of Moses and Aaron and against them look at the humble spirit of a prophet servant leader Moses and Aaron fall on their face and they say to God Oh God God of the spirits of all humankind if one person sins are you gonna be angry with the entire assembly they're interceding hadn't I answered Moses tell the Assembly to move away from the homes of Corrick Tom and avi rom so Moses got up and went to Dayton and avi Ram and the leaders that followed him and there he said to the assembly leave the tenth of these wicked men don't touch anything that belongs to them or you may be swept away in all of their sins and it's like that with us today with our fellowship with the world do you know the Scriptures tell us and the New Testament I believe it's in the book of James that says friendship with the world is to be an enemy to God there comes a time where we have to separate ourselves it doesn't mean that we stop loving the world or that we are in the world but we're not of the world and we have to separate because there's judgment coming upon the world and where do the world congregate to practice their false system and wickedness usually in the big cities and this is why God has called us out of the big cities and out of the false system of Babylon he does not want us to be swept away with all of their sins and so here in verse 15 we see even Moses he says I haven't taken one donkey from them I haven't done anything wrong to any of them and he's crying out before God testifying to the fact that he's only served them and he said he's done it with no ulterior motive just complete altruism and there's a very similar model that Samuel cries out when the people say we want a king like the nations have he says the same thing to God I have not taken one donkey from them I have not profited one bit by being a leader you've called me to be a leader and I've served them faithfully and God comforts him and tells him it's not you they're rejecting it's me so let's look at this parallel in 1st Samuel 11 we've seen Nakash the emoni he came up to fight yesh in Gilead all the men of your veche said to Nakash you will make a treaty with us we will be your subjects Nakash the emoni replied i do it on this condition that all your eyes be gouged out and thus bring disgrace on all israel the leaders of yevette answered him give us seven days of grace to send messengers throughout Israel's territory then if no one will rescue us we will surrender to you the messengers came to give where Schaal lived and they said these words in the hearing of the people and all the people cried out and wept as this was going on Showell came following the oxen out in the field shallow asked what's wrong with the people to make them cry like this and they told him that the men from yah Veche what they had said the Spirit of God fell on Showell when he heard this and blazing fear furiously with anger he seized a pair of oxen and cut them in pieces and sent them through the territory of Israel with messengers saying anyone who does not come and follow Showell and Samuel this is what will be done to their oxen so the fear of God fell on all the people and they came out with United hearts to support Saul who had been the newly appointed one because the people had asked for a king god impressed Samuel to choose one who was head and shoulders above everyone else the kind of King that they were looking for like the other nations had because the other nations always chose somebody bigger and taller somebody powerful that has an external display of leadership but that's not God's original plan God's model is humble in meekness and he told the people what would happen if they chose a leader like the other people so they chose one from the tribe of Benjamin and this was Showell but Shah was kind of reluctant to accept this calling and so it wasn't until he heard these words about how this foreign nation was going to come and wipe out Israel that kind of got invigorated to rise up on behalf of Israel and then the people followed him even more and there was 300 thousand feet from the people of Israel the men of Judah Yehuda alone numbered 30 thousand to the messengers that had come they said tell the men of your veche and Gilad tomorrow by the time the Sun is hot you will have been rescued the messengers returned and told the men of Yueh vests and they were overjoyed then the men of yevette said to Nakash this foreign leader tomorrow we will surrender to you and you can do with us whatever you like the next day she saw divided the people into three companies then they entered the camp of the emoni during the morning watch and kept attacking until the heat of the day until those who remained were so scattered that no two of them were left together the people said to Samuel who are the men who said is Saul not to rule over us and them over to us so that we can put them to death but shawwal said no one is going to be put to death today because I don't I has rescued Israel this is the story of Saul rising to leadership through power before our haftorah comes into play now we see with Cora he coveted and desired a position that was not his and he sought to exalt himself and replace Moses and thus God as his leader with Eden we see the same model in the heavenly sphere Lucifer was a covering cherub who coveted a position that was not his he wanted to be like God he wanted to receive worship and he sought to exalt himself to be his own leader this is the spirit that flows through everyone who exalts themselves instead of God raising them up there's a difference between a leader who puts himself in that position and somebody who God has raised to be this in this position and now Israel and our hot Torah is desiring to be like the nation's they're literally coveting what the nation's have we want a king like the nations have and this was their sin if only they would have said we want a king instead of just a prophet sermon later God would have revealed to them I'm your king and I'll be your protector and provider but the fact that they said like the nations this was their great error and God says okay I'm gonna give you what you think you want and but let me tell you he's gonna exact taxes and he's gonna take your young men and women and he's going to draft them into war and he'll take your lands and your vineyards and your cattle and your oxen and your horses and you'll see the cause and effect of you wanting a human king instead of me being your king so here in verse 14 our haftorah starts then shum Samuel says to the people come let us go to Gilgal and now inaugurate the kingship of Saul there because Saul has kind of proven himself that he's going to rise to the occasion but he's all vacillated back and forth see it said that he had an evil spirit and there was times where he trusted God and rose up and was a good leader but then there was times where he withdrew and look what all the people finally get ready to have an official not inauguration they go to Gilgal and there before Adonai they made Saul King they presented sacrifices and peace offerings before Adonai there and Saul and all the people of Israel celebrated with great joy the first time he tried to inaugurate him you know what they couldn't find him he was hiding amongst all of the armor and the people had to go and literally pull him out and then he had this battle and now he's more ready to accept this position so samuel says to all israel here i have done everything that you've asked me to do I have made a king over you keywords here I've done everything you've asked me to do gods allowed me to give you what you want and I've given you a king over you like the nation's there is the king walking ahead of you but I'm old and gray headed there are my sons with you and I've walked at your head from when I was a boy until now serving you so here I am now is the time to witness against me before Adonai basically saying if I've done anything wrong or any reason why I shouldn't be your leader or that you would want a different kind of leader rather than the model that God set up which is this prophet servant leader testify against me before Adonai and before his anointed king do any of you think that I've taken even an ox or one of your donkeys see the parallel that Moses said he's basically showing that there's no greed or selfish gain or self-interest in him serving the Lord and leading his people have ID frauded any of you or oppressed you or accepted even a bribe to deprive you of justice because he was not only a prophet he was a judge over Israel tell me and I will restore it to you they answered you haven't defrauded or oppressed us and you have accepted nothing from anyone he said Adonai is witness against you and his anointed king is witness against you today that you have found nothing in my hands they replied he is witness so Samuel said to the people it was a tonight who appointed Moses notice how he brings the mindset of the people back to the Torah portion the very same thing it was at a night who appointed Moses and Aaron and who brought your ancestors up from Egypt now hold still because I'm going to enter into judgment with you before out and I regarding all the righteous acts of Adonai that he did for you and your ancestors do you know that from the time of Moses to the time of the first temple it was almost a thousand years and Israel was only ruled by a prophet judge servant leader model there was no king they were all prophets servant leaders humble and meek this is kind of like God's designated appointee underneath him he remains King and like Adam was given dominion over the earth he's to take care a true Dominion is one who takes care of the earth just like a gardener would take care of a garden our husband would take care of a wife this is that true servant leadership this is why the New Testament says husbands love your wives even as Christ loved the church and is willing to die for it it's the same kind of model and so you see Adams Dominion Adam was never considered a king he was a prophet he was a servant leader and he was a judge because he could rightly divide the word of God and who usurped that dominion over the earth hasatan Adam gave it freely through sin and that's what we do today we give up our Dominion and our authority and our power when we sin and so Adam I mean Satan had claimed Dominion now he's not calling himself a king right what is she we'll call him Prince of the world Yeshua is still recognizing that there's a king over the world nobody usurped that position here Israel is one thing do you serve that position by having a human called king but a human even with all the dominion over the earth should only be considered a prince underneath the Most High King and so we see how certain reigning as Prince of the world and even representing the world in the book of Job with the other sons of God representing their Dominion before God and before the heavenly throne until the time you schewe comes as the second Adam and reclaims that Dominion now yushua becomes the Prince now it's amazing how in the Millennial Kingdom Yeshua will reign has a type of King in an emissary of God on earth but ultimately even after the thousand years you see this humble prophet servant leader who is so humble he gives his authority back to the Father he doesn't seek to hold on to anything himself and so Yeshua he in the same model that Samuel was and yet he's rejected just like Moses was and like Samuel was and I believe if the people had received the true model through Yeshua we would have seen the kingdom be established 2,000 years ago but just like Israel of old they rejected that model that God desired so they were looking for a king so you sure when he comes back he will show them what the king that they're looking for and then they will accept him we see a parallel or a contrast between Samuel and Saul Samuel was a prophet servant leader like Moses who rightly revealed the Word of God he's a type of God's intended rulership Saul was a human king who had an evil spirit and did not completely follow the Word of God will go on in our haftorah it says he's reminding them of how out and I appointed Moses the same kind of model of leader servant leader that he is and he says now hold still because I'm gonna enter into judgment with you here before Adonai regarding all the righteous acts of Adonai that he did for you as your king and your ancestors after Yaakov had entered Egypt your ancestors cried out to Adonai and out and I sent Moses and Aaron who brought your ancestors out of Egypt and had them live here in this place but they forgot out a neither God we're in verse 9 so he handed them over to Sisera commander of the army of hats or and to the fullest team and to the king of Moab and they fought against them but they cried out to Adonai and they said we sinned by abandoning Adonai and this is what they're doing again they're abandoning Adonai by asking for a king in his place and serving the Balaam and the ostrich but now if you rescue us from the power of our enemies we will serve you God and as soon as God rescues him from the hand of enemies what do they do they go back to their idol worship and their coveting the ways of the nations so add a nice scent you euro Bob all and vadym and liftoff in sham you'll and rescued you from the power of your enemies on every side and you live securely under these judges God's true model they were blessed and they were protected and they led the people of Israel righteously in the Oracles of God and this brought protection to them when you saw it in the Kosh the king of the people of Ammon was attacking you you said to me no we want a king to rule over us when out an eye your God was your king now here's the king you have chosen the one you've asked for Saul Seau tonight has put a king over you if you will fear out and I still though and serve Him and obey what he says and not rebel against out of nice orders if both you and the king will remain followers of Adonai your God so if this King will humble himself and follow Torah and be under God recognize God's authority over him then things will go well for you but if you refuse to obey what out and I has said and rebelled against out a nice orders then I don't I will oppress both you and your leaders so where do we get out of Knights orders from from the Torah this is the ketubah the requirements for the bride that even the king or the earthly emissary of God the ambassador is supposed to keep and if a king follows Torah the whole nation will be blessed but if a king deviates and starts getting greedy or corrupt or following after false gods he will lead the whole nation into apostasy and judgement ultimately and so we're gonna look a little bit later even at our nation where we're at and where we are going he says if you refuse to obey what Adam I says and repel against out of nice order stand out and I will oppress both you and your leaders now therefore hold still and see the great deed which ad and I will perform before your very eyes now is the wheat harvest time does this ring a bell for anybody as to God's mode deem what holy day would this be happening on chavo exactly he is telling the people you're asking for an earthly king but I'm asking you you need to renew your covenant with God on the day that God renews covenant with his people travel oh it's a very appropriate time for them to realize that even though they're asking for an earthly king you better be in covenant with God if you're gonna seek blessings and protection now it's harvest wheat harvest time isn't it I'm going to call on a tonight to send thunder and rain interesting symbolism here samuel is asking for a witness in the heavens and on Shavuot there's always a witness in the heavens on when Noah built the altar to the Lord after coming out of the ark there was a witness in the heavens the rainbow and you see the Spirit of God descending and making covenant with Noah on that day so two things always happen you hear God's voice and you see the Spirit descend usually in some type of flame or fire some manifestation of the spirit in the tin in Mount Sinai we see the Lord's voice and the people hear it like thunder and the Spirit descends and like flame of fire now sometimes water or rain can be a symbol of the spirit as well you see in Pentecost 2,000 years ago the people heard many voices and the flames of fires the Spirit of God descended upon their forehead or upon their above their head here Samuel is asking for a witness appropriate to shovel ode in thunder which is like God's voice and rain like his spirit descending then you'll understand and see how wicked a denies viewpoint is the thing that you have done in asking for a king so Samuel called to a denying out and I sent thunder and rain that very day whenever the scriptures say that day it's significant there's something significant about that day it's most likely this was shovel out and [Music] then all the people became very much afraid of a tonight just like they had at Sinai and they became afraid of Samuel and his power because they realized he is God's anointed he can call down thunder and rain and he can prophesy you know the very first time that he met Saul before he anointed him as King Saul the people of Israel used to use the prophets not only to to rightly divide the word and to judge in disputes among the people but they would use them as seers because they knew they had spiritual eyesight so they would come and ask the people when they had lost something where is it great prophet judge and so Saul was actually coming to find his flock of donkeys that had 400 off and he goes to consult this year Samuel and that's when God says this is the one that Israel will have for their first King to show that it's not a king today 400 it's kind of ironic that he's coming looking for his donkeys and this is how he meets Samuel Samuel called to a deny and Adonai hurt him and sent thunder and rain that day and all the people became very much afraid of both out and I and Samuel and all the people said to Samuel pray to Adonai your God for your servants so that we won't die because to all our other sins now we've added this evil as well asking for a king over you so they realized that they had done wrong and Samuel answered the people don't be afraid it's very similar to the people of Israel at Sinai please speak to God and tell him to stop thundering his voice down let him speak to you and you tell us what he says but Samuel comforts him he's very loving and he says don't be afraid he probably said Shalom Aleichem just like the common phrase peace be unto you much like you should always greeted people with in the name of the Lord you have indeed done all this evil yet now just don't turn away from following Adonai yes you've made a mistake and this is like you sure he says yes you've made a mistake but I don't condemn you go and sin no more this is kind of what Samuel saying you made a mistake you're gonna reap the cause and effect of it but the cause and effect will be lessened if you will put God first and serve Him ultimately and keep following him serve him with all your heart he says at the end of verse 20 don't turn to the side even don't take your eyes off him in essence because then you will have you will go after useless things that can either help you nor rescue you and that's like us the minute we take our eyes off the Father we start wandering after useless things and it ends up destroying us and becoming our own demise he goes on to say these things are so futile these things that you look at when you take your eyes off of the source for the sake of his great reputation he's indicating God's character and this is a good example for us we should be zealous for our Heavenly Father's reputation and character of selfless love and if somebody puts attributes evil to that which is good Isaiah says woe to him so anybody that says our heavenly father does something that is not in his character to do we should be willing to defend him and here just like Moses always was worried about God's reputation in the nations if they had ever heard that Israel was destroyed Samuel says for the sake of his great reputation add and I will not abandon his people because it is pleased at a night to make you a people for himself and this is where our haftorah ends but the rest of the chapter goes on to say as for me far be it from me to stand against Adonai by ceasing to pray for you look at the truth certain role of a servant leader he's saying you've done wrong but I'm just not gonna condemn you I'm gonna pray for you I'm gonna intercede for you so when you see somebody doing something wrong instead of being divisive instead of causing division and rebellion pray for them intercede for them he says it would actually be a sin if he stopped interceding for them this is the love of God made manifest in this prophet humble servant leader role he says rather I will continue instructing you so he's gonna keep teaching Torah in the good in the right way only fear Adonai and serve Him faithfully he keeps giving God the glory and keep bringing the people's focus on to God instead of saw their newly appointed King serve Him faithfully with all your heart and think what great things he's done for you gratitude is a huge part of our spiritual walk I encourage you to wake up each day learn the modei ani thank God for the blessing of your spirit of even in the life that he's green returned to you each day it's all the good things that he's done for you this will keep your focus from the first waking hour to your last waking hour on him thanks and gratitude and praise wonderful way to go through your day and it kind of sets the tone for your whole day you'll feel like you're walking on cloud 9 in Hebrew we say Moe dhianeila Faneca Malachi I am Jacques art beanie Schmidty bahá'u'lláh raba immunitech ax which means thankful I am before you live in an eternal King for restoring the breath of life to me and kindness and compassion great is your faithfulness we say this every morning it's the very first thing we say when our eyes open up in the morning even before we say the Shema or we go about our day before we get out of bed so here he's even hinting at the importance of gratitude fear God serve Him faithfully with all your heart and remember all the great things that he has done for you yes bill [Music] or amen but with the temptation temptation also make a way to escape that you may be very well that were to escape doesn't mean that you know you're gonna get free young pride means you're going to hold him that's right you will get through it without sinning or succumbing to that temptation the temperature temps but God allows testing god never temps very good word and if we will hold onto his hand and keep our eyes on him we will get through it without falling into temptation that's right that's right and it's all part of our character development and then Samuel sums up you know just like Moses did on one hand I present you life on the other hand death blessings or cursings choose you this day whom you will serve choose what path you're gonna take because there's cause and effect it's not God who punishes you it's not God who destroys self is self-destructive it's our own choice to align ourselves apart from the eternal principles of life that bring a loss of blessing into our life and so here he's just shown the right way he says fear God serve Him faithfully with all your heart remember the great things that he's done for you however here's this big if this big however if you insist on doing wicked things you will be swept away both you and your king so this is the way we are looking at models here because principles transcend time and space what happened yesterday will happen tomorrow history repeats itself and so we see the true form of a leader and we also see the demise of a nation and its leader by their wicked acts and so we know judgment always comes upon a nation and there's four main sins that a nation will commit before they see total cause and effect in in destruction the structure of their nation or the demise of a world power and America has committed all four of these and we are at the last phase our blessing but we're having and we're experiencing a little period of grace right now because our leader as flawed as he is is supporting Israel and God has promised those who bless my people I will bless and so we have a lot to be thankful for each day we understand people are flawed just like all the kings of Israel look at Moses prophecy pertaining to Yeshua and then we'll look at David and some of the other models it's very well addressed to its people Moses this beautiful first prophet servant leader and judge says about the future when you come into the land which your Lord your God is giving you and you inherit it and live in it you'll end up saying let us appoint over us a king he's prophesying about this very thing that Samuel is dealing with let us have a king like all the nations around me here is the exact sin of Israel wanting to be like the nation's and Moses prophesied it then you will appoint over yourself a king whom the Lord your God shall choose from among your brothers you are to appoint over you a king you may not appoint over yourself a foreigner who is not your brother because these men don't know the Torah so they don't even have the most basic foundation for true leadership now the time has come to pass the people ask the prophet Samuel to appoint to King and Samuels not happy over this request but God tells him to go ahead still it's clear that this wasn't God's original plan for Samuel verse eight a few chapters before haftorah says listen to the voice of the people according to all that they say to you for they have not rejected you speaking to Samuel but they have rejected me from reigning over them and this is what happens when we choose and we rebel against God's appointed and anointed ones and we want to either exalt ourselves in a certain place that we shouldn't be or put somebody else more like the world that looks strong that has the exterior of strength and power and protection for the people but you know the Bible says the wisdom of God is foolishness to man the biggest strongest greatest most appropriate leader it's gonna be your worst choice and the humble meek servant who's living purely and wholly is the one that you should choose look at the model of even Yeshua's twelve chosen disciples the one who had the greatest education who was probably the most qualified person to be a disciple ends up being the one that betrays him Judas the one that held the money the one that had great wealth we look at people like this though they must be blessed by God because look at their success look at their wealth and so we choose to align ourselves with them and a lot of times that leads us astray God's original plan when the people he knew would want a leader in the future ruling over them was to set up another like Moses who would be a prophet servant leader and who's God's word would flow through in humbleness the Lord said to Moses what they have spoken is good I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brethren this is speaking of Yeshua and I will put my words in his mouth and he shall speak to them all that I command him and it shall be that whoever will not hear my words through him which he speaks in my name I will require it of him so here God has allowed Israel to experience that earthly human flawed king is not your best bet this is not what you should choose remember the model of Moses remember the model of Samuel remember the prosperity and the blessings that you experienced for that thousand years between Moses and the first temple and then you want a king I'm gonna give you a line of Kings that are gonna substantially and sequentially get worse and worse and worse and that's the way they did after Solomon just got more and more wicked dividing the kingdom over taxing them and causing the whole expulsion of the people of Israel from the land but Yeshua would be the one that would restore this model of Moses and Samuel and yet what did the people do sadly even though it was in their own torah prophesying this is the one who would restore all things and who would restore the model of true leadership under God as the king they rejected him when he came like a humble servant leader he was a prophet he was meek and lowly everything that Moses was and that Samuel was he was and more as he never sinned and yet the people rejected him so when he returns because of the grace of God God's gonna give them a king because they've asked for a king and yet it's gonna be the same one who though is the one they rejected the Prophet humble servant leader so how beautiful that God is able to work with us and even bring what we think we want together with that which was the original first mention principle King David was a great man but he sinned David was a prophet and he was a servant leader but he still made mistakes and sinned you know he took Bathsheba when she was the wife of uriah and he slept with her and got her pregnant then he tried to correct it by bringing Uriah home and sending him home with gifts hoping that he would sleep with his wife and think that it's his own child but Uriah even though he was not in one of the tribes of Israel he was a Hittite thank you thank you very much he exemplified a lot of humbleness in that while his men were out in battle he wouldn't go home to his wife and feast and enjoy the pleasures of marriage while his men are out dying so he sleeps with his servants outside the city game and this David doesn't like this because now you can't make him think that this child and it's gonna expose David basically when his wife comes up pregnant so the second choice of David is to send them on to the frontlines and have him killed and then he takes Bathsheba as his wife and this greatly displeased the Lord so you see as much as David was a man after his own heart he had some serious flaws just like our leaders today but he was a prophet and he was a servant leader and if he had not sinned in those areas of lust and murder he could have been mashiac God's Word could have flowed through him he was amazingly anointed he was the first mashiac the true Messiah of Israel even though Saul you consider him a shock because Samuel anointed him but he just wasn't a prophet and servant leader the way David fit the role this is why you schewe is said to sit on the throne of David because David was probably the closest type of Moses and of that original model that Israel has ever had the monarchy was unified under David they were blessed but David sinned so he's not the perfect one David said and he recognized in Psalms 47 7 that God is the king of all the earth sing to him a psalm of praise so it's beautiful in humility while everybody is calling you King you could easily get big but David never got big on himself you know in the ego he always gave glory to the king of the universe Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived and yet he did not fit the bill of that humble servant leader he broke Torah and brought many many wives into his harem and collected many horses and collected much gold and this is exactly what Torah says a king should not do in order to remain humble so he made mistakes and he sinned and his sons because of his own sin went astray and caused the division of the whole nation of Israel so then we have a long line of kings both in northern Israel the divided Kingdom and judah the southern kingdom wicked kings that led to the demise of the nation because when a nation is under a wicked leadership judgment comes upon the nation and after the loss of blessings very quickly the nation is destroyed and foreign powers come and take it over and that's exactly what happened Babylon took southern for first Assyria came and took northern Israel in 722 BC and Nebuchadnezzar and Babylon came and took Judah and Benjamin in 586 BC and so we see by us wanting a king like the nations it brought about our very demise so be very careful who you align yourselves with in division or rebellion what you asked for that the nation's it looks good on the surface but you don't want what the nation's have we want to start establishing the kingdom of God here and now and this kingdom of God will not be recognized by the world like I said the wisdom of God is foolishness to man the kingdom of God will operate in humility and an acts of kindness and service and purity and holiness and how do we live a humble life when we get more aligned with God's revelation in nature and in His Word there's two places that God reveals himself his word and nature these are two things that we need to get back into as we leave Babylon behind our current leaders you know we have seen a loss of blessing in our nation for a while as we have gone into debt beyond that which we could ever pay back and we were this close to seeing judgment falling upon the land but through miraculous divine intervention we have seen a little period of grace because we have a person who while he's flawed has become the leader of Israel in America and his blessing is the nation of Israel blessing brother Judah and back in the land and because of that we're gonna we're experiencing economic growth we're experiencing great blessings on so many levels but I have to warn you the pendulum swings greatly and I feel that very soon after this leadership that blesses Israel is over you're going to see the people ask for another kind of leader and it will be one that seeks to divide Israel and will align themselves with the United Nations and will bring about the time of Great Tribulation you know revelation 11 talks about Jerusalem being trodden underfoot and it being divided well right now Israel has a great ally who's supporting them what happens when America stops supporting Israel because of our leadership we the people will lose the blessing so we have to like the Elijah message speak out against the wrong form of government that's having a wrong relationship with a false system of worship right now as great as it is that these men are supporting Israel they're also are aligning themselves with a wrong union of a false religious system the papacy is having an immense influence behind the scenes and we have to speak out against just like Elijah of old with Ahab and Jezebel or with John the Baptist speaking out against Herod these are illicit unions these things don't go together God's people and their chosen leader should not make a union or a pact with a woman in prophecy is always a false religious system unless it's the pure woman but you know the harlot of Revelation is this false system that the kings of the earth make a pact with and so right now we're being blessed because our leader is blessing Israel and Netanyahu is seeking the best for Israel are they perfect far from it they're greatly flawed men but we're seeing a little window of grace leading up to the time of tribulation when even the leaders lead the people down a path of destruction like the days of old yeshua is the one true model who will set up God's kingdom on this earth Yeshua was a prophet and a servant leader who never sinned but he was rejected as a prophet servant leader in his first coming 2,000 years ago so when he comes back he will come back a raid for battle to protect his people like Saul when the people said hey that's the guy we want he's protecting us he's leading Israel in battle Yeshua will come back very similar and the people will recognize him and appoint him as king and mushiya mashiac just means an anointed king so Saul was a shock David was my shock but were they perfect Messiah no now Judaism recognizes Yeshua as a prophet and as a servant leader but why don't they recognize him as a shock we have a term in Judaism instead of it being a false messiah like some people that set themselves up that are deceivers like the Antichrist would be a false messiah but somebody who had the potential to be messiah but never fulfilled all of the prophecies such as returning all the Exile of Israel to the land rebuilding the temple and setting up the true kingdom of God these have to be fulfilled in order for Israel to recognize someone as mashiac so Yeshua in his first coming wasn't recognized as Messiah but he will be when he returns as a king and as one who leads his people in battle against the Battle of Armageddon and the whole house of Israel will accept him at that time even Paul says and all the Jews will be saved so it's a beautiful thing how God is revealing himself through his word made flesh in ways that the people will recognize that God's Word never changes he's still going to have that servant leader prophet model of leadership but the people want a king a representation of God on earth they will have both and issue a second coming Hebrews three verses seven through nineteen says this is Paul speaking therefore as the Holy Spirit says today if you will hear his voice remember God is the king of the universe Yeshua is his emissary he is his word made flesh he will be mashiac but we are to remember his word and you will write it upon our hearts and reveal it more fully but God's Word pointed to Yeshua everything in God's Word was pointing to this perfect leader over Israel so Paul admonishes us today he's speaking to the Hebrews and all the lands of their dispersion Paul later went and met with the Hebrews in Spain and then Galatia and in Rome and then Ireland and then the UK before was the UK he's telling us if you will hear his voice do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion when we rejected Moses and we rejected Samuel people right now have rejected Yahshua he's saying don't harden your hearts and make the same mistakes that our forefathers made in the day of trial in the wilderness where your fathers tested me and they tried me and they saw my works for 40 years therefore I was angry with that generation and said they always go astray in their heart and they have not really known my ways they had the written word but they didn't understand truly his ways are ways of selfless love they kept operating in the flesh and for their own self seeking God now in the end of the symbolic 6th day is giving us a double portion of manna through the understanding of Yeshua he is showing us his ways and we are seeing God's character revealed more clearly than even our forefathers or any other time in history but to our forefathers he said so I swore in my wrath they shall not enter my rest and this has a dual prophetic significance because people that do not hear his voice and harden their hearts against his anointed one today will not enter his rest that is to come that is the millennial rest the millennial shabbat so think about the same thing that they couldn't enter the promised land because of their blindness and hardness of heart and self-seeking today we risk making that same mistake and not entering into the Millennial Kingdom if we seek the ways of the nations and if we reject God's Word beware therefore brethren lest there be any one of you with an evil heart of unbelief departing from the Living God but exhort one another daily while it is called today lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin for we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end Revelation tells us that there's a certain group of Messianic believers who will lose their first love experience with Yeshua and in an attempt to become more Jewish will reject Yeshua to not hold fast that confidence in him that we had from the beginning all the way to the end in so many ways the Bible is warning us to hold on to that first love experience remember what God said if you do not listen to this prophets words you will have to account to me today if you will hear his voice do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion everything that you sure has taught us is to be meek and lowly humble and pure to be giving and forgiving it's not like the nation's it's foolishness to the nation's he goes on to say for who having heard rebelled we have heard but how many of us have come through this assembly and gone by the wayside and rebelled and we've seen that so we want to pray for them just like Samuel said it would be a sin for us to just let them go into apostasy and in rebellion and to harden our hearts against them we need to have a humble spirit even while they might not listen to us we can be interceding with prayer and supplications on their behalf as if it was one of our own children who has left in rebellion and been divisive indeed wasn't not all who came out of Egypt led by Moses now with whom was he angry for 40 years was it not those who sinned whose corpses fell in the wilderness they experienced the natural cause and effect of their own actions and to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest but to those who did not obey and constantly it comes back to us having a faith that works in obedience so we see that they could not enter because of unbelief we have a leader that God has appointed over us that we need to stay steadfast in and hold on to first love experience that we can even recognize is not only a judge of Israel and a prophet and a humble meek servant leader but someone who we can call king of kings and Lord of lords revelation says that when he returns on his robe and on his thigh he has a name written king of kings and Lord of lords this is our true example keep your eyes on God but how does God reveal himself through his word and his word has been made manifest and we will experience the blessings very soon when he returns of being under God's true Kingdom model of humbleness and love rioting tore upon our hearts 4000 years we will see how to truly operate in the kingdom and be prepared for eternity with God through him so with that let's stand and let's say this blessing over the haftorah together together praise to you ad and I our God sovereign of the universe rock of all creation righteous one of all generations the faithful God whose word is deed whose every command is just and true for the Torah for the privilege of worship for the prophets and for this Shabbat that you add and I our God have given us for holiness and rest for honor and glory we thank and bless you may your name be blessed forever by every living being praise to you out of my for the Sabbath and for its holiness amen may you be blessed this Shabbat and every day as you keep your eyes on the author and finisher of our faith amen you
