[Music] hey everyone so a few months ago I did a video about the kitchen gadgets that we use in our RV kitchen but as you know Kendrick and I really love cooking outdoors and now I'm going to do a video on our favorite outdoor cooking gadgets a lot of these items are going to be repeats from the last video but as you know multi-use tools are the best so if you have further questions check out the link in the description below or just type your question and we'll do our best to answer them all right now there are a lot of different ways to cook outdoors so the first thing you have to decide is which method you're going to use and if you know Kendrick and I the first thing we're gonna do is it's not going to be electric so I'm gonna go over a few ways to cook over the campfire and a propane stove so if we're cooking over a campfire the first thing you need is a fire grate this here is a 24 inch fire grate by Camp Chef they also make a 36 inch version the great thing about this is that you can build your fire and you can either use the legs to stand up your grate or you can fold the legs in and balance the grate on rocks if that fits your fire pit better the next item is probably our favorite cooking utensil lever which is cast irons these are great because you can use them both outdoors and indoors on the stove our cast iron Arsenal has been narrowed down to four items our first favorite is going to be the 10-inch skillet which we do everything from veggies to breakfast scrambles anything you would fry and a flat bottomed pan this is perfect next up is going to be a cast iron with the grill pan lines in it which is perfect obviously for me so anything meat related we just grill up right on this bad boy here and finally we have our dutch ovens we like to have two dutch ovens one of them is a small 2 quart Dutch oven this really only is good if you're cooking for maybe two people or if it's a side for a group anything larger than that we like our five quart Dutch oven we've done everything from Chile to chicken stew to pork carnitas in this guy and I've even started baking bread in it which has been pretty amazing so this is a very versatile oven that I would not go without and the great thing is that all of these cast irons stack fairly neatly together and you can store them in actually a relatively small space and finally if you're going to be cooking over the fire it's going to be really hot so make sure that you have an oven mitt that can handle some pretty hot temperatures and also a good strong set of tongs while campfire cooking is definitely our favorite way to cook we understand that there are often times when you might be under a fire ban or maybe you just don't have time to start a fire so our favorite solution is using a propane stove one of our favorite propane stoves is the Jetboil genesis base camp cooking system this is a two burner propane stove that runs off of those little green Coleman one pound propane tanks but the great thing about this is that you can also buy an adapter that will adapt that one pound connection and will actually let you hook it up to your 20 pound propane tank so if you're camping by your RV you can just unscrew that screw it into your propane tank and you can cook all day long now you can either buy the stove as a standalone with just the stove or you can buy the entire cook set which also comes with a five liter pot and a 10 inch skillet all of this folds up and stacks together and comes in a handy carrying case one of the things I'm most excited to share with you guys is our brand new cook set sea2summit has it for a long time been really popular with backpackers wanting lightweight gear to take on backpacking trips but why do you have to limit it to that so we decided to buy the kit and that comes with a 2.8 liter pot a 1.3 liter kettle and an 8 inch pan and then of course I wanted the 4 liter pot every single piece of it is collapsible which is awesome for us and our space-saving not only is this good for cooking in but I do not have a giant mixing bowl to make all of the bread I've been making lately and so this serves as a perfect mixing bowl the entire x-series is made with a BPA free food grade silicone and an anodized aluminum base the reason I bring this up is because you do not want to cook with this over a fire but it is perfect for propane grill where your flame is going to be smaller than the base of the pot and speaking of bread making you guys probably are already aware of one of my favorite gadgets the Swedish made omnia oven which is a really great solution if you're looking to try to bake items on your stovetop and as luck might have it I happen to be rising a loaf of jalapeno cheddar bread which I'm going to cook this afternoon so very excited for that and last but not least this might seem like an obvious extra accessory but some people don't realize that they make lighters with a super long nozzle and I much prefer these to a traditional lighter because I'm always burning my thumb and if you're lighting a propane stove or you're going to camp fire these come in super handy and they're super cheap now that we're cooking outdoors let's talk dinnerware now our everyday dinnerware for even inside the camper are these plates and bowls made of melamine typically food grade bpa-free and there are a lot more durable and way less likely to break than glass now going back to one of our favorite brands I mentioned earlier sea2summit so they make this set that comes with a plate a bowl and a cup that are all collapsible and they come in this really handy little case this is something that we use when we do backpacking trips but I would totally not be opposed to making this my everyday set of plates in the camper either and on top of that they offer this like super adorable 2 ounce collapsible shot glass because you know we all need one of those and guess who makes my favorite utensil set yes again sea2summit the reason I love these is because they are super strong and super lightweight so they make several different series of utensils one of them being a titanium series and one of them being an even lighter weight aluminum alloy they may sporks spoons forks knives and almost every one of them comes with a little carabiner so if you do go on a trip or you go outside you can keep them all together and finally when we placed our last sea2summit order I thought Kendrick was crazy for adding these on but I am so grateful he did this is the new sea2summit tumbler these are BPA free plastic tumblers which also serve as measuring cups so they show you bouncing and milliliters as well as having a one shot line and my favorite the wine line on top of that if you need it too they can hold boiling water hot water cold water whatever you need to do they stack in an oval shape so that they pack really nicely and I just love them alright so we're cooking and rain but we cannot forget the most important part of this equation which is coffee now our absolute go to coffee solution is the French press made by planetary design the reason we love this is because it is an insulated French press and it is giant it actually comes in three sizes comes in a 20 ounce 32 ounce and 48 but Kendrick and I can go through a 48 ounce pitcher of coffee basically every morning we've been using this French press for about two years and it is still in perfect condition so I love this also made by planetary design is their airscape containers which is what we store our coffee in the reason we love these is because they have a special lid that allows you to put your contents in and push all the air out before putting the top lid on we use it for coffee obviously it's really great for all kinds of things that need to be stored airtight we obviously live on the road and we try to have things that don't require electricity so wanting our freshly ground coffee we have a hand-cranked grinder the reason we like this particular one is because it has a really small profile there's a lot of them you'll see out there that are really big and bulky but this particular one we like because it's kind of small and easy to store once you make amazing camp coffee you need something awesome to drink it out of our everyday mug which you can tell these are very well-loved are a couple of double walled stainless steel mugs that I found at REI while ago this particular design is no longer available but there are really similar mugs all linked to but basically they keep our coffee really hot in the morning now if it is a particularly cold day or we're going on a walk it is nice to have something with a lid in which case we really like the GSI outdoors infinity mug the reason this is great is because it kind of doubles as an insulated mug with a lid when we're at camp but also they are crazy lightweight they are three-and-a-half ounces which means that you can easily sling them on the back of your backpack if you're going backpacking they're just really lightweight and nice so we kind of love these and finally if we know we're gonna be going on a long trip we're hopping in the car we want to travel we really like our Stanley thermos travel mugs that have the push button we just really like those over the flip lid ones because they keep it hot forever this is the exact same mug that somebody decorated for me and I absolutely love it so these have been really handy for years now I know a lot of you might not want to deal with the hassle of making coffee and that is where although instant coffee has had a pretty bad reputation over the years we have found one brand that we absolutely love called Alpine start this was founded by a rock climber in Boulder Colorado who was tired of cruddy instant coffee and wanted something good so he made his own they came out with a regular instant coffee as well as a dirty chai latte and a coconut creamer latte all I can say is you have to try it to believe me alright so we've cooked we ate we drank and now of course we have to clean so I'll be honest most of the time we do our dishes in the sink in our tab but there are definitely times when you might want to be doing your dishes outside or you might want to use some other water source to do your dishes so here are our favorite solutions first we love this 20 liter kitchen sink made by to summit it is a totally waterproof fabric bag that folds up into this but it holds 20 litres of water so we can put our fresh water in there to help us do dishes or every now and then we'll also use it to drain our grey tank and we'll use it to put out our campfires it's even designed so that when it's full of water you can set it on the ground and it will hold the shape of a bucket by itself next up you guys know how much we like collapsible things so we found this really cheap collapsible bucket which is just handy to have around it is so much easier to store than a normal bucket we tend to use this for dirty things so it could be gray water or every now and then we've been known to wash our feet in this and finally this guy over here is a solar shower made by Nemo called the helio LX yes we do have a shower and we have an outdoor shower but the reason we got the solar shower is because we don't always want to waste our fresh water cleaning ourselves sometimes we want to go fill up with creek water or lake water and use that to bathe one of the other things we realized is that this is really great for doing dishes as well so we can fill this up and if we are using one of our buckets to do dishes we can pressurize it and this nozzle will hold seven to ten minutes of running water when you have it fully pressurized now this little guy is one of my favorite wash rags we discovered the company at lunatic when we were at one of our Overland festivals and this is a odour-free quick drying dish rag it's really abrasive so it will really help get all that scum off of your dishes it dries super fast the great thing about these rags is that they last way longer than sponges would last we've had this one for probably two years and it's still going really strong that's been a really great product for us now to clean those cast irons we all know to be careful and don't use soap you don't want to uncie's in your pans but Lodge makes these really amazing little scrapers that kind of form to the shape of your pan they make one for a grill pan and one for the flat pan we love these and use them all the time but Lajja also makes a lot of other cleaning kits that have some cast iron safe soaps they have cast iron safe oils they have cast iron safe chainmail sponges and so there's a lot of really great cleaning kits for your cast iron and then finally I can't talk about cleaning without talking about kendrick and i's favorite cleaning company shower pouch which makes the big shower wipes that we use to clean ourselves but they also make a really great hand sanitizer the cool thing about this is that it is all natural it is sixty percent alcohol and the best thing about it is the bottle is this really awesome little flat shape so it can easily fit in any pocket and it comes with a spray nozzle so it's not messy and we really love their hand sanitizer and finally the item that has supported me through this whole video this is the table that Kendra got me for Christmas last year is made by Alps mountaineering it is completely aluminum so it's really lightweight but it is surprisingly durable and the best thing about it is that the top part of the table comes off rolls up the lakes collapse and all of it goes into one handy little carrying case so anytime we're outside we have a nice sturdy table to either eat on or serve food off of so it's been an amazing table well hopefully seeing how we cook outdoors gave you some ideas for how you can improve your outdoor cooking as always you can find links to all of these products in the description below and by shopping through our Amazon links you help support us on the road so we can continue to create great content also a few of the brands including omneya shower pouch alpine start and planetary design are going to offer you extra discounts for shopping through my links so here's to eating well outdoors [Music] love and light [Music] [Music] and I have to get it like right when I have no end I mess up a lot
