Kubik hi danette fine William Francis Lee is he was born he may not be that anymore but there's his motion he was a little bit miffed because he didn't start the 6th game he went off after his manager and the press and the radio and the newspaper [Applause] himself but actually I think it's a little bit of a leap law because there are way he works off the field I think what he said afterwards after he said he was miffed when he said if there is a seventh bill the spotlight will be even brighter and that's the kind of guy he is pitching tonight he likes the Pete Rose waiting off eight for twenty three in the series one of the big factors in the Reds coming here in the seventh game ball one we're underway Rose a switcher batting right for the very few times that he has done it this series a ball in his front leadoff batter Petros will be followed by Joe Morgan enjoyment the early signs of Lee has it are the bat is hitting a ball on the ground his fastball is a natural sinker the curveball he has a curveball of various speeds he will cut this day pass ball which will run in on right-handed batters he throws it across the scenes and he has the screwball good short flight or right long run forever he's there he's covered everything in this series in right field short long into the stand along the fences about as good as young right feelers you'll find today that position out there was made for him because of the spaciousness of this park with all the rumor home that he has and also that strong throwing arm he can make the long throw he could play anywhere in the outfield the right field is his spot with that strong arm across the third-base he's had participated in something like nine double plays this year in which he got assists on knocking people down at home plate and in third here is mr. Joe Morgan 5 for 23 all one don't wanted me to say a happy birthday to his mother ollie tonight was watching in Oakland California this Mother's birthday breaking pitch would strike the count as one in one Morgan is just about odds-on favorite I'd say to get Most Valuable Player Award in the National League this year and deservedly so he does everything fastball missed tilling one Lee likes to work quickly he used to move around that 18 foot circle a lot out there and I started to keep him minding his sitting that's three and one now [Applause] second game of the World Series we didn't get a chance to see Lee McKinney the Fancy's plays he's been noted for behind his back or through his legs maybe we'll catch his act tonight I told you about them Tony he can do it Morgan tried to hold up there it was in there anyway according to plate umpire art France Joe says okay here's the pitch he took a little bit off the sinker ball yeah he went far enough and over 2 3 & 2 now to Morgan one out top of the first inning game 7 [Applause] foul ball - sugar the first base coach you mentioned the home plate umpire art France were back where we were for Game one with a lineup of umpires that made the complete rotation Lance was a home plate umpire and the opening game here in Boston that's right bring two things and you don't see that off yo Morgan doesn't strike out often come back that's his first breakout of the series [Applause] at the rest of the umpiring lineup wealthy at first bar near second fellow at third alone Ian left Davison and right Morgan struck out for the first time for 75 sir two out Johnny Bench six for 25 all one the interesting to see how fence goes after Li today the first time he saw him in Game two he had three balls to centerfield equesticle right there corner but yesterday he started pulling about in the wall the shortstop Burlison yeah one two three inning for Li going to the bottom of the first inning Cincinnati nothing the Red Sox coming up [Applause] going into the bottom of the first inning and left-hander Don Gullett 15 and 4 on the year that in this series 1 and 1 and you'll remember the last time he was out an overpowering game against the Red Sox last Thursday night at Riverfront Stadium they got to him later on but he was just awesome and actually that had been the only laugher of the ball game what a record that is 15 wins [Applause] with a broken thumb he had have been a 25-game one thing well here's Bernardo Bernie carbo - before in the series and they're both home run both as a pinch-hitter and he not only talked his way into the starting lineup but hit his way into it he'd been figuring he should have been they're all serious so he goes against his old ball club a dramatic play run homer last night that changed the whole game around already concurring that when the Bobby clock is flat back Darrell Johnson has not worried at all about left-hander against left-hander in this one carbo Doyle Yastrzemski Lynn and Lee all left-handed batter [Applause] carbo is always a good first half hitter he was this year even better than last year he got into July hitting well that inside-out stroke he'll hit to the opposite field [Applause] basket ball one ball one strike first came up here gullet did not have a we thought was this good fastball and he may have been worried about that wall out in left in especially the right-handed hitters he was outside outside then he had to come in the different pitcher in Cincinnati outside ball honey Rico Petrucelli Johnny said that he looked faster to him here than he did out in Cincinnati and it's hard to understand because I didn't think anybody in the league was faster than he was last Thursday he was not only fast but his ball was darting around in the strike zone it's moving in all direction well hit the left center field toward the wall it is off the law taking on a hop by Geronimo double for carbo we have the kind of wind here tonight coin a little bit in from left feel and actually how the ball the ballpark give Geronimo high off the wall the wind held it in six Peter salt from floating out of the ballpark so carbo continues with a hot back he now has had two homers and a double in five times up the wind is very important here the earth to game thanks to you fans in Cincinnati saw the wind blowing in and wonder why nobody hit the wall when a wind blowing out is different that is not a good indication the centerfield flag is blowing from third Tork first gone flyball right field Griffey right there carbo tags Bluffs holds one out all getting away to for that getting away Bernie could have made it in but you never know that so Denny Doyle who was seven for 26 in a theory applies out karma was Gullit returning to the round to face Carl Yastrzemski [Music] [Applause] and mystery is dirty very quietly has climbed in a contention also for a possible look if the Red Sox should win it for most valuable player in the series eight hits in 24 times two of the runs he's knocked in have been game [Applause] Bhama Red Sox really as we look at caramel going back to second base aside from the men they've been platooning that's caramel darlin Benitez have been very consistent with their attack they all from number two spot two eight and seven eight hits it had great consistency attack which has been a plus for them [Applause] Frank pitch breaking ball that time one in one mascara Johnson why Carville tonight with a left-hander going he said because Doyle Yastrzemski hit going harder than my right-handers out in Cincinnati Bella comes in over the top he's not one of those sidearm at the 50 is going to have to get over the plate with all the left-hander's in the lineup for the Red Sox that curveball Don Zimmer in the opener there the opener against gullet his gremsky went 1 for 3 and knocked in a run with a single and that got going out of the ballgame big big swing 2 & 2 in the game in Cincinnati mr. MCT was one for three also there is Carlton Fisk on deck so yes it's 2 for 6 against going with a run batted in [Music] [Applause] and to Morgan hands out but that gets carbo 2/3 the two away thousand fists last night had a moment he'll never forgive Elizabeth [Applause] last part of in rounding a basis its wealth inning home run watch him land on home plate with teammates waiting for him moment who have never forget he sure won't they rang bells in Charlestown New Hampshire forum last night [Applause] lana rang the bell that i watched him grow up from a baby I thought I had the right to do so Fisk is in with two out in Carmel and third no score bottom of the first hey Grif he wanted another one I don't believe he woke anybody up for those fellows last night I don't think so they may have been away check swing and it's like nothing into two fists which shot Carlton during the play the national anthem he was singing it along the line they're shifted around the left on him and Gullett just wanted him to chase bad fastball outside he thought he is long drive the left was going to be foul but it sort of started a hook that then grip the back fare and hit the foul pole he stood at home plate and watched it admired it he knew he didn't have to go anywhere ball two turn to carb our third caller looks to have his good fastball now if they can lay off the Red Sox that is that high fastball away it's tough to do because it takes off so he's got to get him to get the ball down got him he got him many challenging with a fastball so the threat dives and it's no runs one hit and one left and going to the second inning Cincinnati nothing the Red Sox nothing second inning at Fenway nothing nothing ballgame and the Reds coming up against Bill Lee with their cleanup hitter Tony Paris first baseman for 423 in this series two of them home run ball one from Bill Lee I asked Tony hi like hitting this ballpark easier I don't like it I hit the ball to center right center anyway I don't pull all the time hello mr. ball parents wanted nothing of it look at Tony's expression as this ball loose high in the air over the plate he wants to go he wants to go but he can't pull the trigger [Applause] he's got a good job the entire series down he's making good plays he's missing tough plays look easy this is not an easy play you can see where he started he rolled four eight ten feet to his left he knows he's got time with Tony running but outstanding defensively they have certainly played the best third base defensively since brooks robinson's exploits for the orioles he's planted a lot like brooks you know not unusually fast but gets a good jump a great season defensively winning with him oh well hit toward left-field and carbo will play it off the wall in the second base goes Buster here's the fraud going up George the whole Parkin Santa's are gonna sear right now we've heard so much about the famed wall in left in Fenway Carlo was Lynn backing them up with a perfect throw to Denny Doyle to get George Foster carbo can't do anything wrong he made a good play last night when they put him into the late inning he's hitting home runs you double the night he has red on perfect bro Doyle puts the tag on the sliding Quattro great positioning by Larry Barnett the second base supper he got right down there hit on the play carbo nobody realized this has a very strong throwing arm out is second on the club to Dwight Evans and maybe Freddy Lynn but it's drawing a cracker here is Dave concepción ozzie for [Applause] his attack Denny Doyle foster ran hard right from home plate when you play the law like cargo just said make that kind of throw the strong iron that's what happened who can theone bounder to short Carlton and yes picks it off [Applause] now no runs a hit and nobody left after an inning and a half Cincinnati nothing the Red Sox nothing bottom of the second inning and Fred Lynn up against ball one to Freddy who hit that wall last night got the tailbone buddies back in there a lot of heat today there's five RBIs one for one one and one out of gullet and against goeth he is done well he's 3 for 8 in the two games he's faced Don Gullett including a double which drove in a run a ball and a strike curl in and it's outside ball 2 Don Gullett considered by many may be one of the four best pitchers in baseball right now the Red Sox liken him a little bit to by the blue of the A's both throw hard two one yet he reminds me more of prank camana the California ages with the same kind of past fall guarding in all different directions as overpowering his Tanana times there's a picture that's going to be up among the old ones boy did he look good against the Red Sox this year then take fall for Lynne's gone or laid off Walken there's the Red Sox bullpen everybody's there tonight including Louie Tiant who said I'll pitch if you need me there's the red bull pen everybody's out there and that was depleted last that was the only empty seats in the house in eleventh or twelfth inning Rico Petrucelli and they started a chant here now like Louis Fiat they go Rico Rico all of a sudden these things has run loose and as crazy little ballpark Petrucelli 7 for 23 in his played impeccably 1/3 lay back is hooking it is going to be a foul ball there was a Petrocelli shot of much like the Carlton Fisk shot of last night but it kept looking at kept hooking and it's a long strike he has that Fenway Park swing that short stroke he could yank the ball out ere he hit 40 home runs one year of the shortstop he's tried to eliminate that uppercut in recent years two years ago when he was hitting 40 home runs he had more of an uppercut he's done more the opposite way this year more for average trying to cut down his swing chopper to third foul no sticking it just off the line then we got to go back again Petrocelli has had a couple of hits against gullet he got it in the two hits often in the opener double and one hit a double in a walk and he got shut out the last time bargaining got it having a pillow conference right behind the mouth you know if he's telling him it he's going to take this wrong but balls it right back to gullet are tell him something about positioning wagons always in the ballgame and a lot of team leaders on this Cincinnati will team Morgan just one rose with another two on the infield thank you the bat got him Rinku going for that rising fastball and two strikeouts have been on faster why Devon Rob Goldberg they call when the greatest plays in the history of Fenway Park here it is Evans going for this ball and look at that robbed him of a homerun save the game for the Red Sox another one of those miraculous plays that occurred on both sides last night Foster made one a game saving throw from short left for a double plays at home by Evan look bad on that one strike one Park n is the call that the greatest catch he's ever seen he considered the pressure of World Series into that pet thank you got it 7 for 22 for Evans on the series came on strong in the latter part of the season after having a bad middle half when he was hurt he had a groin full a bad shoulder in and out of the lineup went down in his confidence a little bit and then started to hit flyball shallow left long run for foster grows back there rose Hazzard and back to first base in a hurry goes Lin as they tried to double him up Evans fouls to Pete Rose both Peters of the prettiest ring blank there was pleasure like pepper mark when he gets the job done he does with his chest and head who knows when they moved him in from left field a third base in May that's when their pick Red Machine took off and rolled 108 wins the third highest wins and a hypocrite an absolute now we've said it before Pete Rose unselfishness enabled George Foster to play and you saw a cannoneer foster hat people said no I wanna stay right where I am left field I could have all-star there to Rose the kind of guy that the opposing players hate but admire here's Rick Burleson 7 for 21 hitting 330 good fastball but a little bit inside blowing we pause briefly for station identification this is the NBC television network bellick the rope to the opposite field grippy right there though that's it in the Red Sox second no runs no hits and one left and after two innings of play nothing nothing [Applause] [Music] [Applause] last night ken griffey became the first led to a hip the left-field wall he tripled in left center to play that Fred Lynn was injured on when he come below the ground out there the Red Sox have been very impressed with Griffin and you all about bench and Rose de Morgan but Griffey just 25 years old a 300 hitter looks like he's on his way to nationally stardom Frank Malzone a super scout for the Red Sox I asked after the first second games he I said do you know the you and Eddie Casco his plans jive on these guys he said yeah pretty much on everybody except drippings that he fooled us he we thought that he wouldn't go after those outside pitches he get the ball in on him and he'll have trouble with but he's hit as well as anybody in this series he hit with power too can he run ooh ken griffey on the series is six for 24 a lot of extra bases in there double triple leaves first pitch a curveball they feel someday that ken griffey has a chance to leave the national they've been hitting he still does not go on a bunt we know he beats out a lot of infield hits he still is not selected at the plate he's in a lot of bad balls he needs some refinement one ball one strike well he's gonna leg out about 30 points on his average anyway and his hitting coach Ted Kaczynski feels at Sunday they sit right centerfield Ken Griffey Lynn will to pick up Griffey takes the wide turn they're not going to run him now so Griffey continues to hit that's his seventh hit in the series he's 7 for 25 the Reds definitely plan on with nobody out in Geronimo a factor on this series also is Geronimo both ways offensively and defensively came up with a terrific terrific catch on Carl Yastrzemski out in Cincinnati the centerfield wall he's 7 for 22 at the plate with power he had a home run against Louie Tiant last night watch Griffin he was breaking back to first face that interesting me Joel Morgan before the game said that they have solved or he is solved the move that Billy has he said we know he told a lot of different ways to first but we picked something up and he goes home and he's related to Griffey he's related to Dave Concepcion all in jail he now is executed well see of Griffin rock chopper to Doyle Pearl's into Carl Yastrzemski getting too fast men here for my camera and left-center field in this famous car board here in basta Tanner made double play very smooth grippy with no chance to get a good job to take full Sun out and we'll look at Burleson's go right after that runner he doesn't shy away he goes right at you with that throw and that's a hard man to double up because Geronimo can go down the line okay two down and going up Don Gullett 1 / 6 pictures cut at that one strike one this kids an athlete they can hit some runs feels the natural-born athlete you know you feel that he's been around a long time he's a veteran he's only 24 [Applause] William Francis Killeen one ball two strikes no Ned you mentioned his only 24 he's pitching in his seventh World Series game at that very tender age done a few good years ahead of myself there's a basement by going into the opposite field Sting's one out there so Billy is starting to pick pitch Elysian type of game will give up a lot of hits but they'll hit the induced the ground ball on the double play gala tip leave that time like a lot of young other Cincinnati fans are gonna have to go the opposite way especially the right-handers they start trying to pull up there on the end of the bat the ground balls he's got quite a few already in just under three innings throws a blooper pitch to umpire France Pete Rose will be the battery flied to right field in the first what he's done his last 20 ball games including the Serie of the playoffs in the final week of the season [Music] one date came up last time up last night said to Carlton fists holly was patting some kind of ball game isn't he appreciated being in it yeah it sure is and into them when carbo came up after hitting a home run the next time bench said to him I don't believe it title says I don't either Johnny they needed each other alive and one and two draft choice over a bit low one in one mr. MC with Khalid on first base is really off the back quite a bit protecting that hole between him and Doyle not feeling thought is a base stealing threat in this situation it's 2 & 1 now DeRozan fist down he is from Skiba gullets back yeah as we'll play about the loosest 1st base in the American League he doesn't hold tight a lot he would against Oh a griffey or somebody like that or a Morgan but he'll have fold foul ball we had George Scott up your net for quite a few years there's alex grammas and he's one of the best from the business but disturbs he plays an excellent first base he isn't just an outfielder moved to first base because he couldn't run anymore he plays that position well he said the worst part about it was learning the positioning where to be on balls hit to Ryder center that was the most difficult part otherwise he can get round well it's not all that easy I think they just put anybody over play for his place a lot of fancy footwork involved there's that play Tony Lee is going to try for the man at second he's got a row hustle play by leaves and watch it again and garlic by nachshoni first of all watch Li he's clearing the leg he knocks the ball down there it is the play that he has patented he gets the ball besides Olli shot is at second base and gonna find that sliding is out at second okay at the end of two and a half innings no score here's that play that bill Lee made I tell you Tony laughs second game of the season he's made those plays a lot this year between his legs and behind him on the backhand and he made a good fielding play a very here's Lee up now and there's strike one it's no accident no it's not that's the way he follows through and the glove just kind of guides itself someone it has I strike two Delos got two quick strikes on Lee bill is over three in the series he likes to hit but he hasn't hit much and he tries to but on third strike and that's strike three that ball was nowhere near fair territory should see well Bernie carbo coming up when he was with a residue to carry that gorilla around with a net zero on what happened his name was mightyjoyoung scipios Fink's acquittal for the cardinals senator bernie when he was over here for good luck and bernie took it around the league let's go bad with some of the players threatened to burn it so he finally sent it home we had it to our booth for part of the year but there's a lot of Bernie carbo whose stories he had it in down in Dallas he put it up on the table with him and ordered hard coffee for two separate checks ball one this year he at the Buddha the counteract a witch doctor from the Oreo yeah he's got a little gold Buddha with the gorilla pick up the jack no Bernie had to pay for that's why he got rid of it it's inside into a no to carbo who doubled his first time up [Applause] two balls no strikes scoreless ball game 13 got it in there with a check swing good fastball Kellan has three strikeouts in the game he's walked one and the only hit he's given up blows the Karma [Applause] breaking ball prayin one he still hasn't been able to get in breaking ball over and the Red Sox will continue to lay back look for the fastball three balls one strike to Carmel the fastball and you got to buy him three into last night it almost looked like the pitch that he nearly struck out on before he hit the home run in the eighth inning he was judged that he had a pitiful swing on it that he turns right around and slam into the centerfield bleachers all he was doing with that was fighting it off trying to to the opposite field but foul the Reds book put together by lakeshore mrs. bellick let's book on carbo is to keep the ball in on his fist they say cannot get on it get at it Eastwick got the ball a little bit over the plate you saw what happened well he likes that inside-out stroke and he can handle an inside pitch if it's not a real tough one you get that right arm driving and get it out there to the wall well for he's on again second walk given up by going one out one on and Denny Doyle coming up he flied to right field in the first Sparky Anderson and his brain trust down there Manderson has made a lot of friends in Boston and all over the country and his gracious interviewers his candid remarks he's a great ambassador for baseball gallop that had something on ball one denne finish strong as you can see he also had that 22 game hitting streak and midseason longest in the American League they head carbo a play was on and Doyle who is good with bat control fouled it off and Bernie has to go back Red Sox running trying a runnin hitter they hit and run they have not stolen the base in this seven-game series the Reds have swiped seven well the Red Sox didn't steal much they ran some but they didn't steal an awful lot during the year they're not of running ballclub they're good baserunning ball clubs all they'll be aggressive on the base pass go from first to third score from second base sometimes this series as we look at carbo they've been a little too aggressive he's been caught at home a few times run into a few outs on the base one and one the door [Applause] not in five Barbeau occurred on a college singing the right field by Denny Doyle debbie joy now hit safely in every game of this series the only player of both clubs to do so he's got eight hits now in twenty eight grips start talking about people who come for that valuable clearly a lot of them on both clubs here isn't empty up in the pants to help his ballclub and put himself yes grata to second base in the first inning and there [Applause] thank Bobbo scores here comes oil here comes the throw not inclined ya chose the second base one-nothing Red Sox enter Sparky down the photo bullpen the answer came across two consecutive plays on balls hit the grippy he over to his cutoff man he concepción by the third gold and not taking advantage of it but cogitated kept on going the second there's Pedro far ball was getting loose it's also like Jack Billingham taking his jacket off they show you by yes men excellent the he took that extra base and he had it easily and group he did overthrow and now the Red Sox have runners in scoring position second and third with one out one run in panders have been hitting bill at this inning and Fisk is going to be put on first base open they'll take their chances with Freddy Lynn out in Cincinnati we'll hit the best shots off Dulles they were better than the right-handers in the Red Sox lineup as we said earlier they've been that way tonight so Anderson wants Fisk out of there although gullet did strike out in the Carlton his first time up but they want to get the bases loaded take the chance on the force at any base or set up a double play with Lynn a left-handed batter on deck [Applause] [Applause] the Sun at that face death is Petros taken thrown against Milken second Jenny Wilma whom he never stops talking there is Larry Shepard pitching coach out to talk to gullet Shepard just may not have the hook with him usually got given by Anderson when he comes out the bases are full and petty Lynn is up bullpen activity double-barreled activity to right-handers on your left is Pedro Borbon and Jack Billingham is on your right been throwing tonight though the company of bow [Applause] Lin walk-in big rip strike one and Gullett just went to in that time he challenged him with a hopping passport Cincinnati infield at DoublePlay depth follows it the roles of pres if they can't turn the double play they'll come home and quickly gullets ahead of leno into there's been to kind of beating that even with a mask the catcher takes the times on the foul tip but still fires masking hit our trance Oh Jojo Oh into one [Applause] little bit low ball one didn't miss by much crayon boil at third gas at second and Fisk at first looking over the shoulder prowess Frenchy he looked over his own shoulder toward coverage possible by Morgan one into two Lin [Applause] all food didn't miss by much then load twice now to bread [Applause] working in a jam here [Applause] strike three Linda and care for the call as he is out on strikes a called third strike in a clutch one for gullet that's his fourth and the biggest of the game so far for Gilley [Applause] [Music] now it's up to Petrocelli he struck out in a second Rico had a foul home run his first time up and then struck out [Applause] Oh Rico has three runs batted in in the series and a couple of them have been big ones all through Don Gullett wife miss we don't have enough time right now all to let stock sitters now start to layoff that high fastball it was free in the first couple of innings there Sparky and getting bailed to get the ball down his fastball is not quite as lively and he's getting behind because of it [Applause] he'll of nothing to Petrocelli three no place the hunted Don Zimmer they've been giving a Red Sox a lot of green lights on three and old do what they do is Petrocelli go know about now the way gullets been throwing to him [Applause] let him come in with one and see it again since rifles date cards if Rico gets the ball in his wheelhouse he could lose it here Petrocelli right now is the nine nine lifetime Grand Slams and that's more than any active player he's taking [Music] valia Harmon Killebrew had [Applause] bow and go it's right back within three and two here's a big pitch everybody will be going see if he works from the stretch some pictures don't make a big mistake exceptio now having a conference with a third base umpire I don't know what is happening there might be a light somewhere up in the press box shining in his face asking that if he turn out that's dick Stello the third-base umpire and pulleys flashing something in the eyes of sexy old over press row right off the left there [Applause] do nothing lead for Boston Petrocelli with an RBI base is still loaded Marquis Anacin still worried mattered white Evan very high although that's almost too strong and I too rested canary overthrowing fastball he's thrown hard I've been high out of the strike so he hasn't had his good philosophy down in the strike zone and they said of him in his first pitching performance in the first game of the World Series that the wall in left field did not affect him but he is wild hide outside that ball game and that's where he is today trying to keep the ball away from white and others getting he's walked four so far and he struck out four raela walk the business honey on the year average slightly over three walk for nine inning fainted at average last year [Applause] walk for [Applause] oh great - five whatever boy frustrating for a manager within that drug and watch those pictures for those balls and then on like that frustrated great okay hello please pray nothing as a sympathy for the like Daryl Johnson in yesterday's ballgame who had a long wild with Louie Tiant disease he is tell Jonathan's past sparking on low that laurel fellows he knows bought his hip back well a Red Sox bench number 12 was Bobby high - hasn't even played in the series is one of the most enthusiastic players at the Red Sox have rocky Anderson goes right along with Gullett he's got through for Vaughn and Billingham ready in the bullpen and here is Rick Burleson up the number 9 hitter this inning the right now Sparky Anderson is managing with his heart he does not one call to go on the last game of the season and look badly and that's the kind of man here little foul ball want to go out of play prek-12 Burleson who flied to right his first time up so the Red Sox with the benefit of just two hits this inning I've gotten free run the wildness of Don Gullett or walks in the inning forcing homerun [Applause] game battle on attend right now [Applause] girls can had a notion that pitch wasn't too bad that was a little bit low but over the plate one-on-one Saburo [Applause] [Music] [Applause] carve the fowl out of one ball two strikes felon hasn't stopped tonight if no data by ball alright so you're not getting around on him all the hips have been by left-handers oddly enough the right-handers haven't been able to get around on it Doyle and Yastrzemski pulled him and carbo went to the wall for the bases it's one into now to Burlington [Applause] three nothing Red Sox third inning [Applause] two and two [Applause] or apathy [Applause] wicked [Applause] that's never ceases to amaze me with his agility behind the plate the quickness of his hands the shortest he doesn't again might have stayed the one right there Emerald City comes back to strike out the side for the Red Sox they had a pair of hit they leave three after three inning three nothing Boston it's a hard way to become a freebie isn't it I'll say you're going up there to nosebleed heaven there I believe you're right on top those kids are up there they're lighting sparklers are having a great time gives me acrophobia is a matter of facts bother with it anybody has seen a lot of games in his barkos without the wind blowing and that's Jill Morgan's wife by the way when the wind is not blowing in a three-run lead is not much in this ballpark now he's seen it dissipate so often so quickly Joe Morgan struck out Li's pitch low ball one bill had to sit out a long inning now see if it affected him at all [Applause] but the beauty Lee will plant not in time he can't get it over there he had to make a do-or-die effort with his bare hand but a perfect bunt by Morgan and this is something that Morgan rarely does he doesn't beat out many bunts he doesn't strike him he likes to pull the ball this is just perfect as soon as he made you scrub ski try to feel the art you can see how leaf falls off toward the third-base side no chance for a play although we Lee makes one heck of an effort tried to scoop it to Yastrzemski but that's a base it in any ballpark a perfect drag bunt now let's see if Morgan even though he's dial three to nothing tries to excite the Cincinnati ball off and try for the steal he's done it in the past when his team's been down well he seems to have figured out leaves move at least he said he has and told Griffin and concepción and others about it Johnny bench's over one he granted the shortstop in the first [Applause] there's Morgan with his lead and a good one about a five five and a half step lead [Applause] all one he marks off 15 feet he comes out in pregame practice goes to the edge of the grass paces it off with little mark in the grass two feet longer on left-handers and right-handers which is unorthodox [Applause] in his home ballpark he can market a lot better with that dirt around first base and then nothing but if the artificial turf [Applause] we'll go away gone back and it was a pretty good fish to go on Tony if you had to the soft pitch by Lee [Applause] - nothing to bench Brando and alleys digging himself in trouble [Applause] the Reds were down three nothing last night early and they came back they went a hit by three then Kirk this is the part of base-stealing that Morgan talks a lot of botany says bass dealers don't get enough credit and that is psyching the pitcher out worrying about him at first and getting the fastball or bad pitches to the hitter [Applause] forget it John we had all Johnny left conceal the Empire's alloys tell you this case how did you know you weren't there to see it we're starting out of the box to have a good look Edgar Kennedy slow take three and one two vent to deep right-center long run for Lynn he's there and can't make any other play Morgan plays at cozily and died Evans fell down almost got in his way here's Lynn with that trip that just has become so familiar that nice fried it was the wind was pushing the ball away from a little bit he has lots of going to first to throw behind Morgan but Evans got in his way that's a good pick there wasn't it Kevin good rolling block then is very deceptive and covering ground graceful strides [Applause] alright here's Tony Paris grounded to third his first time up [Applause] or 424 for Paris including two home runs in one game in Cincinnati bill picked off a dozen people is here there goes morning he's got it stolen up Carlton had trouble getting the ball out of his mitt he really liked that one that's eight steals now for the red you talking about reading a picture he read him to the point where he goes in standing up this did get the ball caught in the webbing of his glove but it was just no contest so Morgan does in fact know something about Billy got a great jump that diamond steals a base and this couldn't have gotten him with an m14 two strikes two men to Perez [Applause] Petrocelli is back you got to keep your eye Morgan here too because he says a time you can steal third easier that he can't second either bolstered well to post him around the bag I don't know though it clear UNH's down and bent and her eyes up there maybe just hold pop up right side into shallow right Evans on Doyle wants it but it's Evans two out Doyle 170 he's no guy ranges pretty well out there so now there are two down with Morgan at second and here's Foster and George has eight hits in the series I'd have to think of this man played in his Park half the season he loved it at 20 home run total of his are a little bit more than that might be 30 or 35 he is really built for this ballpark he can hit here and he's going to be a fine fine ballplayer for years but Cincinnati they got him from San Francisco great pickup but it says who's George possible got him on a changeup day if there's room profess yep the change-up gets puncture and hits no runs one hit and one after three and a half inning it is three nothing Red Sox that's our handheld camera what's what composition it looks like something out of an old Sherlock Holmes moodle's somebody hanging but he's watching the game and the Red Sox bat in the fourth inning it is Bill Lee leading off ball one Don Gullett in there walked a couple of runs home and gave up another one in the third but got out of it by striking out girl loaning a strike to Lee who fans while he didn't fan he struck out his first time up he tried to punt on the third strike and filed it off doing one the pretty good hitter in college in Southern Cal he'll tell you [Applause] but all do tell you that to him - did he break his honey to the ballpark tonight yeah he always has that image in sync and all his other incantations he goes through him he's on to Transcendental Meditation a little bit reads Kurt Vonnegut and he gets a base hit right man all the hips by left-handers right Billy his first hit of the series call it continue having problems getting his breaking ball over that looked like a curveball or something off-speed that he just hung up in the eyes of Billy Bernie carbo coming up and he's perfect on the night has doubled and walked and scored three four five a double and two home runs Lee at first and bullpen action again for the Reds [Applause] bad pitch and gets away from bench and Lee goes to second while pitch Gullit china bus car Gohan type to make him pop the ball in the air Ben starts moving out a little forward and then loses the ball up the edge of his glove quarters a wild pitch may have a change of Redsox strategy now Don Zimmer the third-base both rocking the Carville with a runner on second nobody out as you look at Brett Norman a left-hander and Pedro Borbon the right-hander the Sparky's got people ready as carbo come top Willa kinda wanna know [Applause] Red Sox leading three nothing in the fourth inning the game ball two and Gullett is way up on everything [Applause] doc being selective and no wonder carbo walked a lot of times this year he was was more Silica's than he had been Morgan looks at third Dakota first carbo's outfit Lee moves to third with one out [Applause] Bernie does his job they took the fun off he was trying to pull the ball Gus gets five going to her left as he falls off to the third base hi Little Joe in the gut play he's done a good job defensively he goes very well to his right how the Reds have to bring the infield in with one out bill late third the Red Sox ahead three nothing you know they can't start conceding runs down and down by three they can't lay back and say boy gets a bye safe we got to cut a run off the plate a big man they're in about 2/3 of the way anyway shortstop check swing and is taken by Rose fair ball in time to get Doyle and a break for the Reds Denny Doyle on a check swing ground to Rose and makes the play but piece of base running by pill leave one of baseball's might have been caught up on this and those pharmacies lead back gets the runner first okay two down at Lee a third base in Yastrzemski has grounded to second and singled home a run [Applause] pop-up sky-high and playable Perez and Morgan Joe makes the grab and delicates out of it very very nicely no runs one hit one left and after four it's Red Sox three Reds nothing the preceding announcement was furnished by Major League Baseball you know Ned a Tony was a sad sight for me to say after the game last night Larry Barnett having to be ushered off the field with an armed guard of course the Red Sox fans were unhappy with his cut pardon me controversial interference call out of Cincinnati the only other call we've had I think a little controversy was colosi calling Ibaka Keon outside of that and it could have gone either way they were judgment calls every umpire at this World Series gun firing his first World Series you know I think they've done an excellent job I do too and Larry Barnett right there is figure to be admired for coming out and having a lot more on his mind than just a ballgame but doing his job last night at third base and he said he'd make the call the same way if it happens again Dave concepción leading off for the Reds in the fifth inning the Red Sox leading three nothing in game Riley strike one [Applause] come up with three of them in the game and nobody's offered at [Applause] ball one a lot of Schulman in this game of baseball but the Red Sox have two of them one picks last night Tiant one is pitching today as Griffey alright fastball so he's moving the ball around changing speeds Lee is given up for its as has gone [Applause] he has good control for the assortment of pitches that he has he can keep that sinker sinking fastball outside and low Pacific gonna do and you saw so many different deliveries and pitches ha 2 & 2 big crowd here galvanized but for the fastball it's 2 and 2 2 concepción the Reds are a great fastball hitting team Lea serving them up the sinkers breaking stuff he fished as good a game as the series is seen really it's Sunday a week ago went into trouble tonight and giving up that leadoff double the bench opposite field yes backhands has to hurry not in play broke late that time coming off the mound yep his style of falling so off the mount our third base got him in trouble that time and of course concepción leaning over the plate for the outside pitch got a good break out of the box watch Lee hustle over right at the end he has the ball in his grasp when he tags concepción how he never did have possession his drums he let him well on that but they never did get the tag name he dropped it we have a man at first base now whose attempt of three steals completed all three in his World Series and stole 33 out of 39 during the year concepción he's got the five it's not a series that I think this is where you see in Kirk difference in the style of play the American and National League they're just a couple of teams California Angels one who will steal bases when they are behind they do it a lot more in the National League as Morgan showed earlier this ball game and don't be surprised concepción goes to have the team's feed the curse of the nationally a lot more artificial stadiums artificial turf stadium makings the running game a little bit more effective Griffey one for one single the right-center off attempt by Lee [Applause] Thanks about the same kind of half-steps shorter one ball no strikes Red Sox 3 Cincinnati nothing the Reds batting in the fifth inning [Applause] pretty good rip at that sinker fouled it off one ball one strike difference of fishing tonight Lee has given up more hits five before four Gullah Gullah has been walking batters and Lee Evans you know Lee will pitch a lot of 10 and 12 hit ball games Curt hill and Wynnum he'll fill the DoublePlay ball on the grounders and exasperates managers a little bit fit that's why they tried to have him run the ball in more on right-handed batters this year than he used to there's a ball the count is 2 & 1 then I imagine that legal gold during the course there's some ball games where we get 15 to 20 ground ball outs right he's an average of about 17 6 15 to 17 he doesn't strike out to money they wanted him to try four more strikeouts by using the fastball more close there's the move a look toward the plate the move definitely the first [Applause] two and one well-hit doyle can't handle gets by him into right-center and over to third goes concepción two on nobody up for the Reds in the fifth see what they score that the ball was hit sharply Doyle was in front of it he'll draw an error Denny has a chance to smother the ball just dropped down in front of it he got the in-between hop well just skitters off to his right off the edge of his glove I believe he didn't get behind it so it's an error on Doyle and the Reds now have the tying run at home plate with nobody out Cesar Geronimo hit into a double play in the third [Applause] Lee working the damn mouth and bill at DoublePlay depth [Applause] now back strike one hey we'll go for two now I give up the run if they can get the double thing got a couple of tough men to double load Griffey and Geronimo but they did double them and then flirt inning where they are the runners of theirs and first concepción and Griffin [Applause] chop that one oh and to Sparky Anderson might be confronted with a tough decision with Gullett the on-deck hitter whether or not to leave him in there's Sparky take him out for a pinch-hitter he's got lettin one right there with a helmet you can see you'll do that the decoy the opposition at times he's got a bat he should be loose and he's got the Billingham throwing in the bullpen again [Applause] oh and two to Geronimo jammed him again and he fought it off nothing into and Lee is working hard now [Applause] right now the biggest game of his major-league career [Applause] the big strikeout believe that was a super curveball and now Sparky is calling Don Gullett back merv rettenmund right-handed hitter will bat for gullet though means that Billingham will come on net you know you hear so much about the kookiness if that's the word for Billy you forget that real competitive spirit that he has he is really a battler when he walked before the ball game from the dugout after that bullpen he had a purpose in mind he stalked out there he was ready he usually is despite all the shenanigans and the frisbee throwing had he not become sore elbow Fletcher the undoubtedly would have won 20 games this year net yeah started kind of a tender elbow after he'd won 17 he would been the first one to win 20 how they recently had starting here's merv rettenmund who's though 4-2 in the series these last win was August 24th against the White Sox here in the rain [Applause] Retin mundo for two formerly with a Baltimore Orioles [Applause] ball one this fella was a very good outfielder there's concepción a third-base and Griffey at 1st ready to go threatened the fourth man in a mother was a very good outfield at Baltimore when Frank Robinson was playing there Blair and Buford one in one [Applause] one ball one strike two Merv [Applause] the hard threes him to break in but he hit well in several years in the American League he had a couple of 300 years Earl Weaver used him very wisely platoon them against certain pitchers and then he got hurt never been the same one in one in Rettenmaier the Berlin dick the Florida DoublePlay door runs one hit one error one left after four and a half it is 3 nothing Boston here we are winkin blinkin and nod halfway through this ball game which is a beauty three nothing Red Sox leading the walks by Don Gullett Billingham is coming on to pitch and Curt Goudy you got it the rest of the way babe alright yeah it should be quite a ball game Billingham zout they're warming up ladies wriggled out of two jams in a row Gullit was wild I had a lift in for a pitch hitter three runs in Fenway doesn't mean much Billingham the sinker ball pitcher took the ideal for this ballpark 115 lost 10 this year an average of 4.11 he is going to face this wind and cut the celery Don Gullett hits 4 innings he allowed four hits all by left-handed batters three run ball came in the third inning he walked in two of them yet for walks and he struck out five he had good stuff but he was wild hiding that is Carlton Fisk Billingham his third game of every second relief no wins no losses he has been an excellent World Series pitcher he's allowed only one earned run in 20 and 2/3 innings of World Series pitcher Vista struck out in the walk potential he's the most dangerous they aim at the left-field wall right let their spring training after he came back at June from above hi like to in a committed swing last year he had knee surgery hard luck Blair but after he got into the month of August he started to roll he was a most valuable player in the Red Sox the month of September they've seen two classic catchers in the first all of Famer Jill Cronin was marveling about the catching of Johnny Bench how easy he does it out of a rocking chair and back of the plane sinker ball full trial fist Bellingham strikes out the first man he faces and again the log relief man becomes very important in the World Series game with his team behind Billingham has to hold the Red Sox Brett Lin have walk and taking a called third strike [Applause] they're out in the outfield this is what you're looking at if you're playing center field here in the bleachers and then flashing a sign [Applause] Fred Lynn Associated Press has voted him the American League Player of the Year as a rookie he's a sense for rookie leer and may win the Most Valuable Player Award all the same season when has that ever been done nothing he's it better in Fenway than he has on the road to no past we have in the lab lot of his home runs were on the road though because this didn't Taylor Chris type of hitting he's not a screen hitter here he goes for a center field right-center might feel right bran one [Applause] is to have a broadcaster here in Boston years ago he was a hall-of-famer named Frank Frisch and he used to moan on here ooh those bases are balls and that's what Sparky Anderson moaning about the night ball for Lynn is on and a Red Sox have received their fifth walk [Applause] jacket let's say one two three four five six five and what intentional but Boselli has worked out a lot nearly had a home run his first time up on a long file drive to left at Tom Yawkey who's on this ballclub since 1933 his team has never won a World Championship there in the series in 46 and 67 lost each series to the Cardinals at 7 game [Applause] one ball one strike Sparky Anderson was sitting in his office about four hours before game time and he said his phone rang and it was mr. Tom Yawkey and Yaqui was thanking him for all Sparky Anderson's done for baseball what a stretch that is that's kind of man yaki oh he's all for baseball ball they sent him a letter the Red Sox have runners on first and second one out they're ahead three nothing and the batter is Dwight Evans and then the slide to left and he walked yeah Petrucelli has a deist dispensed he has nine Doyle has 8 here Linna seven hit evidence evidence Oh balanced attack all of them chipping in drop feet on this one he hasn't the tag at second and Lin is coming on the 3rd Geronimo makes him look easy out there what a centerfielder then plated about a third of the way and then went back in fact that's how deep that ball was it great individual matchups in the series Geronimo Lin bench fist Burleson concepción saves are Geronimo man who is moving before the ball is hit as most great center fielders are he starts to his left and back play a little more shallow in the first time first two games up here in Fenway and now he shows off that toy which is that one of the festival here's Rick well show these fly varieties trucked out over to runners on first and third two down at ball one the world Glenna third Petrocelli at first Red Sox ahead three nothing each team has five hits [Applause] all to do no tuberosum strappy little hitter at number 8 spot drove in 62 runs this year [Applause] good one I'm going to get him too much good to head with a pitcher up next although Lee left and then it would have the percentage of manageable filling out [Applause] you want a three and one [Applause] at Joe Garagiola on your left party plenum um Cincinnati announcer on your right there over there broadcasting around the world about an NBC radio [Applause] [Applause] this will be a 3-1 pitch by deco going outside ball four and the Red Sox had the facing water Billy has a real chance to help his paws like that single now they give him a standing ovation is that five get out of always to go part of that is due to these great pitching performance knitting number five when within our first and third nobody out Paul strike under all alone in the DoublePlay I was a great piece of pitching ballet [Applause] wax it back on one the Billy who was struck out and singled right he's not going to be cheated on his guts I don't believe it look at they have the old track two out for them damn they're looking a little mean than that did me yeah two or three-day growth Billingham is a 101 count on they'll leave in the face of loaded two down hi neva playing shallow back back he's there he hasn't random a very shallow Polly just land the ball no runs one hit three left at the end of five three nothing bunker and it has ever wonder what it looks like from a sportscaster the panic right there here we go Peak Road to the top of the order to sixth inning Reds trailing three nothing Billy look at the spread across roses flied to right hit into a force out Morgan on deck avenge Johnny Bench [Applause] Saida and the law Morgan getting loose Billy born in Burbank California lives now in Stoughton Massachusetts that happens many times player come to a major league city and stay there they come part of the community one one delivered in what or the join is late the Red Sox scored three runs in the last of the third Don Gullett walked in two of the runs that's been the scoring [Applause] there's a base hit by roads in the right field and the third fourth inning in a row the Reds have had their leadoff batter get off the base that [Applause] Rose now has nine hips come on in this series report and Yastrzemski has nine hits they're the leaders and we're starting to get our first action and a Red Sox bullpen [Applause] organist struck out and beat out a drag bunt I'll go back [Applause] that is sinker ball pitcher Jim Willoughby [Applause] Rosa first nobody out sixth inning rolls did this the first man up to sitting Morgan - they're trying to slow Billy down they both stepped out they won't upset his timing his rhythm he goes one and one to Morgan next past only Ned yeah yeah he likes to just stay there last year he didn't do it as much he walked around a lot and plopped the ball in the glove but he was more businesslike this year that was a curveball if Morgan wisely laid off of he started after doing one to Morgan [Applause] short lead at first by Rose there's a fly ball that's tough chance maybe not Evans comes on ball went farther to look get it off the bat handle but it carried that's it Aslan the little man is Evans was remembering last night and playing him pretty deep too Johnny Bench has grounded out flied out to deep center he's hit the left-field wall once in a series last night he single off the fence [Applause] at six lovers last night for my left on the patters there's a dry that's going foul Billy loves it when the big right-handers come up they're trying to pull the ball off the wall he figures it is to his advantage because he has a good tailing fastball the secret ball that moves away from right-handed hitters because he can get the ground ball to the left side he reminds me a lot of Mel Parnell we used to enjoy great success here with a sinking fastball and a screwball a breaking pitch is to feast on right-hander there's a bounding ball sharp they've got one and turn it over wild throw by Doyle into the dugout they had the double play and Doyle threw it away into the Red Sox dugout while I was looking down at Pete Rose he hurt becoming his Paulson with a nice easy flip now watch Denny he knows Pete Rose is coming and Rose caused this wild throw [Applause] there it goes with coming in hard oil is a very good man on the the middle man on the double play very seldom makes a mistake like that but it was a good bit of bass running as usual by Petros and Doyle has been charged with his second error of the night Finch winds up a second two down Tony Perez up is grounded out and popped up Red Sox ahead three nothing in the top of the sixth inning [Applause] his fastball yes because outside what a nothing let's Doc's have already turned to double plays in Enfield and had time to make it three they messed it up a rows messed it up there is blue professor and a high drive is waiting for that one that one is gone over everything Perez find that blooper pitch and slammed it over to screen out in a Lansdowne Street and how we have another one run ballgame in this world series that was a tape-measure home run as in Cincinnati fans come alive mr. and mrs. Bob Howsam alongside the dugout we almost looked like he was waiting for it you wonder if penny had something to do with it down on second relaying some signs which can't happen with a catcher on second thought he Perez now has had three homers there's mr. Howsam in the dark suit he's the president in the red you'll sign a new five-year contract it was signed him for life boy that ball was creamed if it hit the Turnpike out there I believe that's his third homer and he has seven RBIs that's the most in the series and now it's three to two Boston foster backing out on Lee [Applause] failure to make the double play has been costly to the Red Sox [Applause] I can't pass the fact get off plastic aesthetic ideas leave scars town is deliberate they're trying to upset Billy this is nothing new to foster but Morgan did it rolls didn't also [Applause] and ladies welcome to that all one posture that single off the wall and fall out [Applause] kouno Raja beretta left-hander as join Jim Willoughby a right-hander in the Red Sox bullpen we runs five hits for the Red Sox two runs seven hits for Cincinnati [Applause] Boston's asking for time they didn't ask in time that was a legal pitch the 2 1 delivery let-up deliveries outside 3 & 1 where you want it it's a high fly to Evans and right drawing a bead and that's out number three two runs in for Cincinnati who hits a home run by Perez nobody left at the end of five and a half three to Boston next Sunday nasta Football League action continues on NBC with a double-header check your local listings for the games in your area you'll also be seeing grandstand beginning at 12:30 Eastern Time hosted by Jack buck grandstand will be on in and around NBC Sports live event every Sunday with features and timely commentary on the sport theme next Sunday at 12:30 there's your lineup and most of the fans in the country was need to Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bill in Buffalo [Applause] all right as Bernie carbo the top of the let's not panic over last of the sixth inning Billingham starting with a closer that drifted outside Marvo is doubled walk round about he's going to run car both oil and especially one ball one strike that's that lead has been sliced 2 1 I think these teams prefer that way seen many games for one-run games in the series the chopper foul one ball two strikes the carbo [Applause] [Music] we're draw away beauty in the October night the upsetting new balls just back to Bernie carbo [Applause] it's a ground ball let's get the bag furball Rev run's wins the race one out took a nasty skid after hit the bag where's pops right on I was shaking his head let's get it off the edge of the bag Billie am almost froze on the mound and didn't get over in time nicolosi single hairball there's Denny Doyle he's glad to ride he single ride he's grounded out his corner on Boston ladies - a deep gratitude my foul back out of play [Applause] the Reds have out hit the Red Sox 75 [Applause] one in one concert oil [Applause] there's just empty the rep back fat boy [Applause] one ball two strike count right now here at 10:18 Eastern Daylight Time it is 62 degrees in Boston her birth wasn't all night [Applause] Doyle pops it up off-speed pitch Bhaskar is coming on concepción gave way to him easier for the man from time [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Sudan and carl yastrzemski I have singled in three times he has not been one of the free Red Sox run Rita to Boston laughter the second curve is low for ball going on keeps everything down downstairs a wise thing to do in this ballpark is Bill Lee found out they gave that live looper fixed forever doing old [Applause] they're playing cops right away [Applause] that's American one essentially gets the board this is the next man up [Applause] the damn nobody on one one be refreshments [Applause] big pounding ball is your more than easy hop to it let's not go quietly down one two three intersect at the end of six Red Sox three of the reps to grandstand the Sunday the first program just before the first NFL game in your market will feature a wrap up the World Series ABA question Dave the butcher on the explosive situation in his League lab noon scores and features full coverage of the canadian international horse race will foot by Jack buck host televisions most complete and concise sports program and another interesting development we're talking about here a minute Jeff Jian leading off in the seventh time ground ball to shortstop Wilson long throw right on the money one down that brings to mind that we're going to be doing in Miami Buffalo game that's Rick Miller who's got a left field out for the Red Sox replacing carbo a defensive measure by manager Darrell Johnson the world football league folded today the Miami Dolphins winning fall on their first five without dr. Warfield and kick what happens to them now Oh mr. sought to be back in that Miami backfield will buy that imagine they'd like to have it I take you ken griffey a single reached of an era all one mcgriffin [Applause] later to Boston retro batting in the seventh Billy is gone all the way Don Gullett started when four innings lifted for a pinch-hitter Billingham is pitched well since my curveball - no - ken griffey batting 7th in the Red order getting down to the part of the ball game there's always pressure the World Series dispensed in the seventh game but when you get to the seventh eighth and ninth innings of the seventh game in the one-run ball game the pressure really mounts on the defense and of course the offense when they're down one run and Lee runs it to three and nothing are dripping that's mrs. Lee Bob bill get it over [Applause] Willoughby allied Hadley millena left-hander and a rest we walked him on four pitches [Applause] and that is the first walk given up by Billy tonight [Applause] we is that pitch since October 12 ten days ago and that was in the second game now Darrell Johnson is coming out of the Red Sox dugout [Applause] remember leaves at a tender elbow but he went right into the ninth inning in Game two against the residents tell them to one run he was asked the other day about what he did and what he said when Daryl Johnson came out to get him or what did they talk about he said usually nothing at all he just takes the baseball and I leave and I get mad and he's going to left late [Applause] and he's going to bring on Roger Moret a fast falling left-hander while my left makes his way on we have a break in the action here standing ovations fulfilling with a for Boston three Cincinnati two we have just had a report that Phil Lee developed a blister on his left thumb and that's why the decision was made to lift him he could have had a shutout if the Red Sox had turned the DoublePlay he'd be leading three nothing yep the biggest word in sports here's an if man right here Roger Moret to come in and strike out nine a walk time but he had an incredible record this year 14 wins and three losses what about beretta net he's fast he's the fastest man on the staff he's got the live rag doll kind of army his problem has been control he'll walk as many as he strikes out he'll throw a brilliant game a couple of times in the last two years he's approached no-hitters for his fan from 12 to 15 other times he's blown seven run leads and things so that's the kind of pitcher he is but he has more natural stuff really than almost anybody on the staff and every year they keep talking about well is he ever gonna be as in the regular rotation or will they trade him he's always mentioned because clubs like him what about he's moved not too much not too much a move to first base he's just fast enough so they they'd have to get a good jump anyway to get if he's gonna throw the fastball but he is moved to first is it's not very good I've got a fast man at first right now at ken griffey who represents the tying run right he may be just in there to get a hitter or to out get the left-hander Geronimo Willoughby continues to throw right-hander Billingham is on deck the way he's been looking as his party likes it keep him in there if he could Geronimo has wrapped into a double play and taking a called third strike three two to Boston left side scored three runs in the third two of them were walked in by Don Gullett for the bases loaded and Perez that have tremendous home run over the left-field screen in the sex with a man on running off late j-jordan left there's the moon five arrests [Music] griffeys attempted one steal in history that was successful [Applause] of all the say Zod you're out of all [Applause] because some young players that you think you're promising they go so far in a style roster Rafi Geronimo we're not thought to be stars but they become fine ballplayer they've developed every year ball - they have advanced each year [Applause] and the greatest minds of baseball always wondered why some players stopped and some players go on the guy himself inside somewhere [Applause] the balls no strikes 50th first and the pop-up to the jello center backing up Burton puts it away get down Palestine the park he does he is going to pinch-hit for Billingham head armbrister is out with a bat the on-deck circle [Applause] and warming up in the red bull pen is a veteran play Carol they were all in there last night Reds used 8 pitchers the Red Sox four to set a new world series record of 12 pictures at one game [Applause] armbrister batting for Billingham gratitude my brother getting the booze here for that interference play or not interference play there's a lot of thought both ways of that [Applause] that three previous pension appearances a walk the sacrifice that has gone out [Applause] rs5 with a fastball marette combined with Bill Lee for successive shut out they shut out the Yankees in New York they came back here and they they pitched a double shutout [Applause] at pitches ball two Billy fits up to the 30 innings seven hits to run he walked only one he pitched very well [Applause] because good enough to be running a spring a goose egg [Applause] the ball just right [Applause] ken Griffith birth let you out another seat squirmer of the 75 series [Applause] some writer in Los Angeles wrote the other day that the way this theory has gone at the team that wins the seventh game would have a decided advantage [Applause] there goes away the flow down he's in or easily Golan base for trippy we're second in this area as you mentioned that marette does not have a good move the first he's also slowed a whole plate with that high leg kick Paul makes a good play to prevent the ball from going into center field where drifty might have gone to third he's got a lot of potential and he see he unloads and he's off off the Nile that way getting out of the way of the filled Doyle made a good save here kept that ball from going into center field the webdev attempt at 11 steals in the successful 99 [Applause] they were successful over 80% of the time during the regular season some record I think as the highest percentage per team of all time and grippy down on second with excellent speed will be challenging some fine throwing arms a great throwing arm and right in Evans of fine accurate rowing arm and Lynch argues well while in center field I don't know much about McMiller and left and it's hard to score in any to get the left in this ballpark Rick Miller can play anywhere out there why we have a two to town to pinch it around Brister now the umpire see the ball last coming out I want to take a look at the ball well that was dipping down below the mound with it they're constantly falling in the day but now young gals where's the popcorn mom who cares about Milutin weighted to Boston seven and account goes to friend too they on deck batter the leadoff man in the Cincinnati order Petros [Applause] break it you want him Rose is a sweat Jenner well he has a percentage going his way and he hit over 300 both ways this year [Applause] well as fly to ride it into a floor stop single or right his score to run again you see the figure nine 426 the Indians gremsky have the most hits in the series nine apiece the rest letting the 7g down runners on first and second loafer ball Adam Austin fans are becoming uneasy [Applause] I can't imagine Rose sitting out three days with a ring and the line shot to center is a man rounding third here comes the flow it is not in time the other runners advance and the Reds have tied it and have runners on second and third Griffey scored easily Lynn's throw and why to the plate Armbruster raced to third and Rose went down to second on the throw to the plate here's the ball hit out to Freddy Lynn centerfield Griffey with a good speed off second nobody in cut off position for the Red Sox a fundamental mistake and I am a runner feet rolls to go in a second the websocket ever made many mistakes in history but they made a couple in this game that have hurt them one on a potential DoublePlay ball I could have put Lee in the dugout without is going against in the Reds went on to get two after that now the Reds have two men in scoring position they tied it up they battled back [Applause] the Bulge earlier three runs was not much of a lead in this part [Applause] I'm called not only the mistakes on defense Kurt but a couple of times they left the bases loaded the Red Sox did when they had a chance to blow it open we're gonna struck out accessible drag bunt the pitch is low and it's flied out one out of three Armbruster is a third Rose is a second two down a tie game [Applause] do it all a right-handed batter Johnny Bench is on deck will it be a right-hander been heating up on that bullpen for about 15 or 20 minutes Jim Burton the left-hander this will be a two and all pitch the Joe Morgan lean lines it foul down the right-field line hey to one count Daryl Johnson he hasn't changed expression in a series you know he looked at his cap once let this get the home run last night [Applause] with his wife call Antonio stone-faced don't think they were kidding about of the night and no cracking a smile Duvall's in the strike rayon one Marat nearly fell down after that delivery hiding a little bit extra Morgan prized himself the fact that no one control fastball by him he once said not even Sandy Koufax good he'll be looking fastball right here three in one couch where he won delivered a Morgan lobster foul back out of play three and two he wanted that went to is mad at himself he had a good rip at it mrs. Morgan and Perez high this year during the season for the most game-winning RBIs each had 15 Perez Planck won the night to get the rest back in the ballgame the tremendous homer out in the Lansdowne Street over everything [Applause] the face of the Lotus let watch Morgan and Jenny benches do up here is manager Johnson coming off and marette has given up two watts and a base hit after getting Geronimo on a Papa he's already given the call right-hander Jim willoughby [Applause] well he should be ready he had the real hot streak for you guys that helped you to the pennant what about two weeks where he was in an almost every win or had a save of a ballgame he came and joined the club around the fourth of July and Cleveland Tony and got racked his first time out that was in Cleveland he had hardly time to get used to the uniform and then after that he was phenomenal for about three or four weeks he had that sinker ball they hadn't seen him around the league he he has a motion like he's falling downstairs but he was very effective all the relief pitchers are running in from the bullpen the last couple of nights we have a break in the action again the score here in Boston is now tied three to three this is Jim Willoughby's third series game he's pitched five innings allowed three hits one run it was unearned he was a loser in the third game that went 10 innings by a 6'5 score and a situation is ready for Johnny Bench he's gone hitless in this game he hit two Grand Slams during the 75 season he is not exactly ripped the Red Sox pitcher depart in this series we've had six hits now in 28 times Perez Willoughby came in from the bullpen the long run bench went back to the dugout and I have a hunch he might have conferred with Sparky Anderson Anderson has a little red notebook that he keeps in his pocket which is a scouting report on every Red Sox player Johnny might have gone back to ask him well what does Willoughby have what his race or tell us of that super Scott report this party may have told him something like well make him get the ball up is a sinker ball pitcher as Ned Martin said get the ball up in the strike zone go swing it grounders [Applause] Alice all started harmlessly enough in the seventh Concepcion grounded out and grippy watch stole second that was all for Bill Lee your animal popped up to down runner on second armed wrister walk rose single in the center scoring griffey on the throat of the plate the runners advance was excellent food Morgana's just walked and the bases are loaded regi Cleveland and Jim Burton are in the Red Sox bullpen play Carroll was warming up in the Reds bullpen ball one the Johnny Bench Armbrust grip third rose at second Morgan at first we three-game high pop foul look here this guy's room and he leave he's been good [Applause] [Music] [Applause] there's the friendly Fenway fans was backed off three two three last in a seven we've got a wonder around his bases-loaded foul pop-up how much room counting fish might have been given in Cincinnati you might be able to see the Fenway fans backed off just a little bit look at the man when they coat he's given cotton a little bit wound the kids to pack walk them out of town now there's that much power loom in this ballpark as one of the smallest pile areas in a major league and his good uncanny underneath all ball systems the novela culture done it in the series he did into the playoff made a sensational catch the playoff and here he is was that off the last of the seven will be followed by Fred Lynn and Rico Petrucelli this is play kill fifth game in the series his fourteenth lifetime series game topped only by whitey Ford Tony Kubek old buddy who pitched in 22 World Series game Molly fingers Christian 16 Bob Turley in 15 and Allie Reynolds in 15 visca struck out life in the wok content [Applause] eyes upon a surprise fun roses playing deep for the right-hander pull hitter this can move for a catcher and also for fellow who's had a knee operation he can also bunt yeah he has done that several times leading off innings to catch that third baseman deep feet still going to move back at third base he's going to give him the bunt protect that light a little bit prevent a possible extra-base hit in the corner the funk go ahead County [Applause] one strike the Carlton fists pounding ball foul play Carroll moves ahead of him owing to the hawk there's a profile that's where it got the nickname I'll put Kent Hilton against the mini day and become quite a matchup right thinner I'll play with the convo you move in Johnny Pesky there you got a three-ring circus to strike now with that hard slider breaking away 1 & 2 for Carlton Fisk all tied up free to free last of the seven just a piece of it funny you didn't get to see the last part of Game seven at the 1960 World Series but many played the one last night against the one where you were at your learn expressed by the bad hop Mazeroski homered struck out on a curve we kinda struck out which do you think would be the best game a toss-up and I just hope that the fans don't forget carbone's home run got the Red Sox back in the ball game yesterday like they did a fella named Smith hit a three-run home run to make Mazeroski home run possible the first big birdie made fish home impossible to leave those are the big blows in the first two series game that was a 1963 the Pittsburgh one ball one this series has to rank with one of the best as going right down [Applause] come talk dramatic everybody thought that maybe this would be such a tail off from last night and it might be a 9 to 2 ball game or something but no way [Applause] and therefore a strike now these two clubs are too evenly matched their spectral Sally on death Goodwin the Fred Lynn [Applause] or the ground ball Perez gloves up beautifully to his right the high throw Carol's over there in time to down [Music] now pentacel example struck out swinging whose walk to sing over the part of the ball game were the right-hander start shooting for the wall absolutely and would it be the hero in the seventh game of the World Series couple innings left maybe rate goes under medication he has an inner ear problem blacks out it gets busy but the medication is helping and he's going to make a decision about a week after the series after he confers with the doctor whether he'll keep playing all one defective colors he's young enough to keep playing they do he'd like to but a lot depends and what the doctors say how's the back one and one we do down for the Red Sox nobody on play Carol third pitcher tonight for that Jex Wayne ground ball to Concepcion he makes it and the Red Sox go down 1 2 3 again at the end of 7 it's a tie game 3 2 3 here's a leading RBI man of the 75 series Tony Perez he's grounded out popped up and then hit a 2-run Homer over the left-field screen in the sixth inning he's had only 5 hits in seven RBIs three home runs Pop's this one up Peppa Sally waiting for it one down [Applause] George Foster is single off the wall been thrown out gonna stretch it into a double fouled out flied out one out of three in willoughby Premier League li marette and willoughby [Applause] slam zap ow oh and one the George Foster reruns for the Red Sox in the third they batted around they received for walks editing and two walks by Gullah forced in run where's that a two-run homer and six below similarly run and his seventh to tie it up and that's been it for all on the strike the pasta and Steffi under scheduled up next bust that white ball come off that green wall the background well you'll have to hurt [Applause] the end of special man little be the MVP it appears but this getteth in lost him during the course of this season might have been trouble for the Red Sox when you see him day after day you learn to appreciate him that he learned to surround that ball Tony as you know from a shortstop coming on and getting a good bead on it so I can fire over the first base and be ready when he comes up with it that way this concepción he's drying it out at an infield hit and ground it out one out of three in the first pitch to him the ball Willoughby a side armer is more effective that way he was getting up too high when he was Ricardo there's a bounding ball Red Sox fans come to the pink for the last of the eighth inning in a tie game three to three [Applause] his honor the mayor and this is why if you know what every boy [Applause] now it's the last of the eighth inning white Evans Rick Burleson and Jim relevant facing right now [Applause] of all the women who flat out walked and flied to Center three runs eight hits for Cincinnati three runs five hits for Boston one in one count the last seven reps a control gone down the Billingham and go [Applause] 1 & 2 McEnaney is warming up with a revs a left-hander and Burton a left-hander warming up for the Red Sox barely struck him out in a bad pitch doing two to Evan Evan says troubled with a breaking pitch a lot worries about it sometimes [Applause] he hits a pop foul I feel the buy the Red Sox dugout it'll be out of play - and - to Evans faster the eighth inning tied up three three [Applause] third Goudy Ned Martin Hanukkah [Applause] three and two not much left or this could be a lot left that we had last night playing the left of midnight but on this time game in the history of the world three four hours the lead one is on to the website Darrell Johnson's got a pinch-hitter coming up to the on-deck circle Cecil Cooper's come out with the fat [Applause] they'll be looking for the bunch Rose way in a third as Cooper that broken up now heavens on first nobody out roses creeping in and the pitch of the stock rose and taken like Doyle pearls in an excellent butter he can control the back there's big clue all-in-one the Rick Burleson [Applause] barrel is pulled surprising before this series and taken off the fun side and had a man hit most is the kind of guy yeah [Applause] Thank You learning Elevens at first nobody out [Applause] the Red Sox have received eight watch tonight [Applause] machine 3 one by Billy [Applause] was a breaking pitch just inside a one-two count the Rick Wilson right him in the first this game tied three to three last of the eighth inning [Applause] - by the way if we run late the Johnny Carson show will be seen tonight and Johnny wants to stay on watch the series and put his show on who wouldn't want to watch this series groundball the roads up over for one Morgan terms of double plays around the horn Rose de Morgan the parade there two down that's the first double play tonight for the let's let's act and they do facial Cooper is that a tough time with a pattern issue it is red hot in august-september the playoffs and then he suddenly cooled off he's got only one hit in 18 times up fellas been able to hit whenever whatever leggies played in and well it spent a lot of time for the hi minor is waiting for somebody to give up the first-base job he finally got it and turned out to be had he hits a high pop foul rolled going over up again now that wind blows away and Rose happened in the Red Sox again go down was three men up we're going to the ninth inning and our game is all tied three to three pre sitting in Aspen was furnished by Major League Baseball at the public service we pause briefly for station identification this is the NBC television network [Applause] that is the world championship trophy it will not be awarded tonight in the victorious dressing room it's to pick it's going to be awarded at Civic ceremonies either here in Boston or in Cincinnati tomorrow where the winning city will have its ceremonies it's tribute to its baseball team win or lose the Boston City Council is having a tribute to the Red Sox I imagine the same thing will be happening in Cincinnati and that trophy will be officially awarded tomorrow we're going to the winning dressing room right after the game and look in on the world champs at 75 ball one I think Tony put it very well before this before this game 7 in his interview with the two managers there really isn't going to be a loser in history if there is but there is Lee now baseball is going to be a winner for sure because it's provided plenty of entertainment for baseball fans all over the world and grippy ball - Jim Burton is the new pitcher his second series game fist 1/3 of an inning in game 3 [Applause] Rippey walked in the seventh and install second [Applause] outside ball three Burton this year won one and lost to three runs eight hits for the Reds three runs five hits for the Red Sox the Red Sox have made the only errors of the game both by Denny Doyle [Applause] we won stephanie is been on base each time he's single he's reached with an iron his walk Geronimo on death and then the pitcher Carol Oh [Applause] for checking the record last night's game was not the lawn is gained by time four hours in one minute last night four hours and 13 minutes the Mets in the 8th and 73 12 inning ball for Griff he's on watch maybe the decisive factor of this game walk Kirk the Rebs in the third inning for a Red Sox batters were walk and that griffey leaves off the ninth with a wide grip ease the guy I want to keep off face always but especially in this situation will the puck martyr Petrocelli will be charging and Griffey will be a hard man to force out at second base keep him out of scoring position Geronimo is hit into a double play struck out and popped up game tied three to three the split screen you're looking at Griffey at birth [Applause] duck Flynn got on deck macelli falls down makes the play to first Rico hats off going to second base for the Philippines septum palate was all over with he made a fine recovery being able to get the ball over the first phase to get the fleet Geronimo running to the left side now Curt I believe this is going to be called back it looks like Dan Driessen is coming out van Driessen an excellent hitter youngster he's waiting a break into this red line up probably at first base which is a natural position these are the available pinch hitters wife Teresa not now as he comes up you still have Janie and Crowley as left-handers and Flynn and plumbers right-handers Reese has been up once in this series he's all for one and he can run the first place well I have a new pitcher for the Reds in the last of the ninth inning as ronimal did his job he moved the potential lead run the second complete ken griffey trace it also a tough man out of the batter's box he runs well he hits the ball to all fields he they called Nicole Brown you see why when he goes into his batting stance he goes into that call and like griffeys a man where they think he someday might legally [Applause] he lives in Hilton Head South Carolina [Applause] acquired as a free agent in 69 I leave all the Doyle [Applause] over the third is just lesion is out now the switch-hitting Petros is coming up Andros now lead the World Series in basis but then the last two times up he's into a ride and he single dissenter to tie the game up in the pebble terrific pressure right now Curt on the defensive infield with a fast runner at third base course they're two off but they know they've got a feel the ball cleanly to get rolls at first no chance for a force out anywhere but the sellers got to be aware of the possible punt being dropped out at third [Applause] Darrell Johnson now is going to come out from the dugout to have a talk with Jim Burton the managing has been superb in this world series they've made a lot of moves as indicated in yesterday's ballgame with all the pitchers they've shifted to the pitching rotation according to the ballparks and whoever is going to be pitching the rows is going up against a man that is it 300 he went below 300 for the first time in ten years last year and bounced back the Corbett again this year he had 200 hips this season for the seventh time in his career and he led the National League in doubles for the second straight year that is Reggie Cleveland two down roughly a third of high game three to three on the top of the ninth [Applause] jumping out as you want or don't want fastball is inside to him one ball no strikes the Red Sox in their last of the ninth half Miller Dale and his French be scheduled up ball to the curb a lot of pressure that young kid been pitching carefully to rolls obviously this situation you can see how he grips the ball behind his back the red lost a Baltimore in 72 the 1872 they want that world champion veterans like rose and bench Perez Morgan has been through it [Applause] whereof is inside ball three three and one steady diet of breaking balls to pee we've got Morgan the left-handed hitter up he is a dangerous threat but Burton at least would have the percentages in his favor somewhat left-handed pitcher against left-handed hitter in one [Applause] and roughly 1/3 well thank them [Applause] that was really bald for granted curve him and it wouldn't act up for him looked like it slipped out of his hand as he tried to flex the wrist and put the spin on the ball that's what Dale Johnson came out to tell Burt and he said if you're gonna tow us track the roll she's going to have to chirp raking ball who set up a force at second base it's carefully the rolls will go you against Morgan left-hander against left-handed hitter [Applause] that's Burleson in talking to him that runners on first and third two Reds two down we're tied three to three in the ninth inning Morgan has one hit in three times and he's also a lot [Applause] all one two Joe Morgan roughly a third rows at first two away [Applause] Bob all back I'd hate to pick the most valuable player this world series gonna be tough even better a lot of people while you're certainly going to have to consider Louie teon for beating Cincinnati twice to complete games Evans has gotten some big hits made a great play Rose now has been hit the fifth we played well a lot of leeway at least one the hook that one one there's a shot to left feel that is Wow they have been pitching roles outside most of the series for Morgan outside and is that maybe touching the inside but they haven't that's where they pitch into the National League most Pompey bust him inside with this thing that he said to us from calling game around the batting cage he's gonna try and go the opposite way if they putting him away [Applause] one ball two strikes three balls Fang foul we're back to the same situation that's an addy the two down at 10:00 Griffith third he froze at first row more than a fat one ball two strikes [Applause] there's a look they drop consent for ahead here comes the throw to third rose hips a dirty state and here goes Morgan down the second and arrest had the lead four to three as Joe Morgan fluke a patient in a center field scoring cryptic from 3rd the throw from lemon 2/3 was too late Rose hitting in her chair and on the throw to third going down a second Joe Morgan Jim Burton made a good pitch foul all the way to market looked like a breaking ball and so just stuck with and and looped it off the end of the bat Darrell Johnson out he's already called for the right-hander now the Reds go ahead for the first time in the game they have a 4-3 lead and Reggie Cleveland is coming on Joe Morgan had the winning hip in the extra inning game out of Cincinnati and right now here's it here in the ninth inning is put Cincinnati out in front we have another break in the action in Boston the score Cincinnati 4 and Boston 3 [Applause] regi Cleveland comes on on the ninth inning the Reds have scored a go-ahead run and they have runners on second and third two down so the Red Sox will come up on the last of the ninth inning trailing and they'll send up the top of their batting order Rick Miller Denny Doyle and Carl Yastrzemski Red Sox scored three in the third inning but very steadily the Reds of chip bat tremendous homer by Perez in the six for the man on Rose singled in a run in the seventh and Joe Morgan had just knocked in a run here in the ninth inning and a watch start at this ninth inning so many times you've seen that happen Johnny Bench all four for tonight and foul out with a patient loaded in the seventh [Applause] Reggie Cleveland that's in the van ball one Cleveland's tip game starter first Canadian born player ever to start a World Series game Ron Taylor John Miller my mother Canadians who have believed in the world a legend was born in swift turn fast catch along that information passed to you by a former Canadian Alan Roth our statisticians got a nice write-up in Sports Illustrated this week and deservedly so optimistic outside Brando Perez is on deck to watch this inning let's receive three walks in the seventh they were walking him early now the Red Sox are watching the Reds late real pitch and they've bench the green light on that one three and one Rose at third Morgan at second two out [Applause] Cleveland 3 1 pitch to me high fastball the Reds have left 6 coming into this inning the Red Sox have left nine twice the Red Sox left the Baker motive and the third and the fifth great to deliver a pop foul out of play then that kind of series hasn't it were that one little base hit that have busted open almost any of the ballgames we've seen so far we saw last night as both clubs battled back and forth tonight the bigots come from Jill Morgan a little looper Perez with a hundred and eight wins romping away from the Dodgers by 20 games whipping the Pirates by three were heavily favored to win the series but even they admit the Red Sox are a much better ballclub and they thought and both Club with great respect for each other Johnny Bench walks that's the third walk given up five Red Sox pitching this inning and here is Perez up we had a two-run homer in the sixth one out of four the Reds were the favorite team tonight even though they were playing in Fenway Park oddsmakers made the Reds of favor with Gullett starting Gulliver and layer both Kyle that's going after that RBIs over Little Bay set you down face your motor ball strike [Applause] [Applause] there's the one strike delivery Oh [Applause] the problem is see mackaninee in the last of the ninth the left-hander's to have the Red Sox one ball two strikes [Applause] nationally trying to crack through with its first series victory in four years after the A's won three in a row [Applause] one ball two strikes three men on two down hi in a way Perez wanted it than held up he has sucked up with men on bases as he showed in this series after starting off so slowly to be leading the series in RBIs he's done in his entire career when min around he fares down a little harder guesses a little more he's tough due to pitch it's a high fly out of Evans in right field everybody running on it and Evans gathered it in picked up a run on one hit or no air then three men left last to the ninth inning coming up the Reds lead four to three twenty-three-year-old will McEnaney now is going to try and win this World Series for the Reds Eastern Springfield Ohio there the batter the NICUs is going to bat for Rick Muller a right-hander then left-handers Denny Doyle and Yastrzemski will follow mackaninee has been called on to get both right-hander the left-handers out why she had string to 25 plus innings without allowing an earned run to the second on the Reds and save and if he gets this safe it'll be the biggest which is still very young career Juan Benitez right now Joe Morgan loop single in the center is it ever now this dramatic series area Amica takes a pair of inside Benitez has had one hit in seven times up in Missouri girls playing in shallow affair Queens and filed the back one on one McEnaney s stuff the class ball that moves jock breaking curve and Eastwick have been a couple of real fines for the revs youngsters out of the bullpen and they've been trained to be really pitchers that's the new style of baseball crewman Knight from the tender age especially [Applause] there's a flyball the right fielder ken griffey and one down lanique is flying out Denny Doyle has had one hit in four times and are calling him back Bob Montgomery Reserve catches a right-hander is coming out he can hit a long ball to be his first appearance in a series Sparky Anderson checking the lineup and checking the booked on Montgomery and was this ski mostly got the question now they're waving Griffon a couple of steps positioning your outfield well Johnson down to his last he loves [Applause] what up nobody on the roads ahead for three [Applause] gunnery is a licensed pilot on a model train enthusiast oh he has a mine right now it's going to get a hip to get on delivery there's a ground ball the concepción Red Sox are down to their last out the Reds are one out away winning the World Championship carl yastrzemski gets a standing over he's been a great player for Boston since 1960 and he's the captain of the team well maybe it's fitting he has a last shot of a third [Applause] a Connecticut every outside ball one [Applause] Rebs need one more out in there the champs there was low ball two Carlton Fisk on deck last time Cincinnati won a World Series of 1940 [Applause] like two and one [Applause] sit down nobody on yo Morgan's bloop single right now is the difference top of the ninth inning he put the rest ahead a high fly ball it should be all over Geronimo's under and Cincinnati has won the world championship beating the Boston Red Sox four to three the Reds win it in Fenway Park Femina veterans and his team have been very frustrated they wanted this one badly after winning a hundred and eight times this year setting all kinds of records it would have been a deep disappointment for them not to win but they ran up against the ballclub and extended them right down to the final inning of Game seven this was the Reds 115 quickly tonight McEnaney saves it the crowds out of the field is the Cincinnati locker room and the crowd is giving applause not only for the Reds as world champs but applause for both club the way they played in this world series one of the best world series of modern times for the baseball fans of America Pete Rose Joe Morgan Pepsi on and the red fans should be proud of this ballclub after the Red Sox dramatically won it last night the Reds playing on the road could have blown up tonight but they didn't they got the hide early three to nothing they hung in there and they beat the Red Sox four to three [Applause] a very quiet crowd at Fenway Park naturally as it would have been in Cincinnati and the Reds lost at home and the crowd just sort of standing stunned reminds me there's Johnny Bench reminds me of the crowd in Kansas City on Christmas Day with a full moon shining over ol Municipal Stadium when girl you from him kicked a field goal and Miami beat the Kansas City Chiefs and the longest football game ever played and the crowd just picked up their seat cushions and left the ballpark all right Marty Brennaman the Cincinnati Red announcer is down in the Cincinnati locker room and this is Curt Goudy sending it down to Marty and let's pick up all the happiness of the Cincinnati locker I might add elope you hurt Curt Gowdy but we're with a few of the men and first of all I think thanks Chagall and congratulations that go to the manager of the Reds Sparky Anderson what a wonderful moment for you Tony no this one's for milk place and for left use down here and for all my friends and everybody unknown Jackie Anderson congratulations to you on the red Joe Morgan Joe Morgan congratulations my jaw karate has done Jo for the 115 times a season this one belongs to the Reds and it was a big one right on this is the biggest one I've ever played in Marty we've come from behind and look like we're dead but we never die this unbelievable ballclub and I'm just so happy man I can't tell you how much of Pete Rose unbelievable he got all the clutch hits every time we needed one believe I just I'm just fortunate that I was able to flip one in there but we made a pretty good pitch on me to be honest with you was down and away and I just try to stay wood and file it off and I got a good enough plea to get it in the center for you Joe congratulations thank you very much Marty Joe we understand that Pete Rose the man standing to my left was named the Most Valuable Player of the 1975 World Series and Pete our congratulations to him it was strictly a team performance tonight most teams would acquit when they got us out at first and third no house Tony with a structure on two out and and rapid hit - a double play most teams would acquit we were still down by three runs and where's give us alive with a two-run shot you can tell I'm hoarse from yelling a whole game and I just was happy to get that base at the tie the ballgame and I was I wish that it walked me because Joe is a great guy in a clutch and he got the clutch hitting the 19 to die with nothing to run for Pete I wonder what was the feeling in the dugout when we got behind quickly three to nothing well Marty aside never died Club you know in the whole series it seems like it's been the fall club had jumped out of front there's one that doesn't win and they looked bad there a while because the lead was picture real well but these guys didn't quit Marty Sparky kept revving us up in there and the extra mennonite really really stayed on everybody's cases and it was stripping a team ever and I just I couldn't be happier had all of my in a world and everything I this is a happiest boy in my life I'm scared when he look ordinary I really hate congratulations here's Blake Earl and here's a man who's done an outstanding job in relief something that well got this Cincinnati Reds ballclub here great relief pitching in Hawk one of your finest hour thanks Marty I want to say this is all us that's not a people man they've been behind us all year and we finally gave a joke I'm just so happy man I don't say tremendous World Series Thank You Marty it's great we toast this down before we left is there going to be a champs and with a champ number one our good luck and congratulations Thank You Marty I was in Champaign get it here's Johnny Bench and John a career that's been star-studded every respect for you it's got to be the biggest thrill of your career I really here's Bob Howsam we've all made it all possible I'll tell you it was just a complete effort I've never wanted to win anything so bad and the way we want it I think makes it even more exciting good to fans in Cincinnati and Boston and around the world see better baseball in seven games not anywhere and that's the brand of baseball that we they're going to see all year when they come out and see baseball and tonight was just one of those fans are unbelievable out there they get me going and I'm not even knowing their side how about this Red Sox club well I think a little more than of them now we didn't know what we were getting into I believe and we gave them credit but I think we just looked at them and said they're young club and they can't do the things but they sure did John congratulations here's a man who put this ballclub together and I know that one thing that you Bob Howsam wanted more than anything else is the world's championship here's a chairman of the board of the Cincinnati Reds Louis Nippert and Bob it's got to be a tremendous thrill well this is the greatest thrill I've ever had and we've waited a long time for it Marty as you know and it was a great game and a team effort by everybody I couldn't be happier things looked a little bleak out there for a while then that's right but our club has always come back as you know this year and they did it they played a great club Boston really was a tremendous club and I take my hand off to them because they couldn't have been better there's two great clubs played can you pinpoint a key to this season for the Reds well I think four we would have to go back to the ship that we made where we brought PDN and foster went to left field which kind of gelled our clubs but the key was 25 men out there doing their job and Sparky and his coaches doing an outstanding job on the running in broad congratulations mr. nippers here of course has a hand had a lot to do it with this so it has well I guess you have to expect this a little bit because this place is absolute pandemonium right now mister Nippert congratulations to you as as chairman of the board of the Cincinnati Reds a big night I certainly am happy in it take take it started some years ago there's a culmination oh it is a great complement to the entire organization from Bob Howsam down to the fat boy well we're in no-man's land right now Don a big big night for this ballclub well it certainly was Marty certainly not one of my better performances but you know I gave it all I had and try to keep us in the ball game and we had some great relief pitching and you know I just like to thank each and every guy on our ballclub because we're never going to give up and I thank God for all of them so you know it's a great moment my life have been waiting six years for this and like I say I'm I'm elated Don job well done thank you very much Marty there's Tony Perez he had three home runs in this world series and of course I guess you could say that Bill Lee went to the well one time too often with that dipsy-doodle lollipop change Tony yeah I got you throw one too many to me everybody really well I was looking for when I saw his Martin I know you're gonna true the first thing he threw me one I wasn't ready for what this one I just got all that order that way did she go up looking for it no I wasn't looking how you saw his mojo here stopping through it I just paid back running on here the world congratulations thank you buddy brother what a tradition a guy you've met before you know Bob Bosley talking here I think so commissioner killed Bob holiday right time to shake hands the strength baseball executive here but half everybody to baseball study what a wonderful team you got Bob it's a series you hated to see anybody lose the bye guys you earned that victory congratulations thank you boy because as I said before they were two great ball clubs naturally worse a crowd to win it but it couldn't have been a better ballclub that we played against and they really did well as you know we went into the ninth inning and it was all ready to be another long evening fortunately we stopped him pedestrian or as the baseball commissioner have you seen a world strange with this much excitement never that last game last night doc could not be a climax to it because we went to seven and the pressure was just as intense today it couldn't be climax there I don't think the series has been topped in my recollection I've talked to a lot of baseball people who feel they've never seen a series as good as this and the the way this team played the defensive play the steady championship kind of play they put on the field there they deserve they deserve the victory there's no question about that but oh what a series and thanks to two great cities Cincinnati in Boston mr. Tom Yawkey who ran this thing here like it's never been run before the great fans in both areas and all over the world and I think created entertainment was provided for fans all over the world by this World Series second something you just said there Tony we don't have to find organizations in baseball this organization of the Red Sox organization and it's very fitting that a series of this quality should come from those two organizations and not very surprising baseball commissioner boyd q and the president of the reds Bob Howsam Marty Brennaman I think they want us to throw it back upstairs and see what parts doing let's go to card all right now I've got Joe Garagiola with me Joe and I worked all summer together on the Monday nights and there's an old saying those walks will come back to haunt you the leadoff walk in the ninth inning to Ken Griffey was the undoing of the Red Sox and gave the rest their World Championship Joe I tell you the face on balls and his I know baseball fans remember the late and great Frankie Frizzles base on balls will kill you how you used to moan about it Don Gullett was a victim and as you pointed out Geronimo I tell you it was a tremendous world series as you heard Kurt Tony talking about it down below along with the Commissioner a great World Series in that it went to the ninth ninth inning it was tied and what poetic justice had Carl Yastrzemski go out last the last man he's done so much for this Red Sox ballclub is this whole Boston area I would have been a bitter loss either way it's a bitter loss for the Red Sox but the Reds had those veterans of rows and bench and friends who had been denied twice before they wanted it badly and after the 108 wins not to win this year would have been a crime for them and yet as Johnny Bench said we underrated the Red Sox they're a better team than we thought I think the Red Sox future is ahead of them they have some of the best young players and baseball as fans have seen in the World Series Curt let me just say that I've enjoyed this baseball season work with you high up till well that's it from Fenway Park in Boston
