welcome back to the channel we got a 1940 John Deere BM shop today uh the engine is set up it's stuck um we're gonna try to get it unstuck sat outside for a couple of years no can on it so First Step will be to uh get the valve cover on the carburetor off that we're going to do is we're going to remove the carburetor I already got the throttle linkage disconnected it's held on with one kind of key and we've got a few bolts holding it on 9 16. so I'm gonna get those out and I loosened up this breather hose so I could move it around easier there's one foreign this out now there's the carburetor as you can see we got a lot of water in it so this will need a full rebuild now we'll take the uh valve cover off I got this bolt already off and loose so let's see what we got rocker shaft doesn't look too bad a little rusty but that'll clean up so to get the head off we're gonna have to uh get a few things out of here and I think we're just gonna go ahead and for better access take the the hoods off so that'll be the next step all right so we're gonna get the front no one's calling off in this front cowl off so we can get the hood off so start by getting this off half inch go ahead and get this guy off here there's that one jeez this one what okay there's that this should come off a bunch of animal stuff in here um this one half will come off looks like we had a rat living in here decided to come off as well listen uh 7 16 so let me get a socket real quick here we go thank you another bolt that's back up in here get that out nothing oh there it goes all right there it is then the next step will be to get the hood off all right Next Step I thought was going to be to get the hood off but we gotta actually get the steering rod out so I loosen this up here this this nut has to come off and you got to get the steering wheel off this usually is a pain to get off so I kind of already loosened it up it wasn't too bad uh we got a screwdriver if I can get this key way out if you don't want to lose the speedway you need a regular one right yeah that'll work out of here make sure you don't lose this otherwise you won't be steering instead here all right then want to get this front cover loosened and off so steering rod can unscrew out the sand this unscrewed sure keep all the bolts so you don't lose anything so this comes off make sure you be careful because there's a let's get another it's a little bearing in there you can see it right there and I've crushed a few of them and they're not not exactly cheap so there it is right there make sure you keep that good and clean and I'll put this back here and put this on our bench with the bolts now we're going to unscrew off the steering rod be one on them catch this other end oh it comes out here yep turn it clockwise until the warm gear comes out and when the whole steering rod comes out just like that now now we're able to actually get this put off easier ready all right we're gonna get the hood off so you ready [Music] [Music] all right [Music] something's wrong It's gotta go back [Music] abandonedness [Music] let's take the muffler off I have to foreign video doing this but it was kind of hard to get apart so we got the hood off and the gas tank off they're laying over here um they were held on by these straps that were absolute mothers to get apart they were Rusty had Square nuts so we pounded some of them out broke a few and got it out and then once we got that out then we uh drained all the antifreeze out of it right now this is just some of the remnants of what we've got and I I also opened up the crank case and all I'm seeing right now is rusty water so that ain't a good sign so uh there's the antifreeze that came out of it we're gonna keep it and use it for something but next step will be to possibly get the rocker shaft off and we'll get this tube out of here and get the head bolts off and move this over and see what we can see we can't get done all right Next Step we're gonna do is we're gonna get the rocker arm off attack the shaft whoever you want to call it but we'll get this out of the way the exhaust pipe on just held down by two bolts on this manifold flange and that just slides right up into here so get this out of the way and that'll take the rocker shaft off three quarter inch deep socket we got these bolts already loosened up he's off there we go a little rusty there's one [Music] who's also Rusty at the end but it's coming okay there's those get the lock washers out and put them in the valve cover over here now this rocker shaft should come out like so make sure you hold it together so they don't fall apart I'll go ahead and set this in the valve cover and then the next step will be to pull the push rods out like that set these over here as well and now I think we can start get some head bolts loose we'll get this radiator hose off the bottom and see what happens next all right we're going to take the head bolts or the head nuts off that bolts foreign [Music] all right here's an example of what the inside of a piston should not look like I mean there's a solid chunk of ice in here I mean this ain't good I mean we'll see what we can make of the make of the inside of the of the liners but they say looking too good guys let's see what happens all right we got the head off now and we can really assess the damage here here's cylinder two here's cylinder one I think I think this is the worst I've seen but so there's there's the cylinders here's the head not you know not better by all means I mean that's mint right there ice holding it open soup there's any cracks I'm not seeing any that'd be a miracle if this thing ain't crack let's see back here not seeing any cracks but we really got to get this cleaned up so that's pretty well what we got for damage wise so this'll let's see what we can't do with this uh engine all right so far on the tractor we um got freed up today turns over really nice so we're gonna let it let this junk drain out of the crank case and I'll change the filter out and run a little kerosene through or something and then we're gonna order some parts we're gonna get a new head gasket probably some new spark plugs new uh compression petcocks uh we're gonna get the head resurfaced because this obviously this ain't gonna work here so we'll get that fixed up get new valves I mean these valves are junk we're gonna get a new set of valves so yeah we'll see what happens but stay tuned for more this is the end of part one
