His use of vice grips and crescent wrenches turned me off to ever watching his channel
I watched the gas circular saw rebuild. I was disappointed in his poor quality paint job on a aluminum fuel tank that still had decent paint on it. I like to see the old tools, and he finds some real winners. I just don't see him resqueing much of anything. His methods resemble my middle school, high school lawn mower and bicycle restorations. Maybe some of his other videos are better.
I tried to like the channel but there's a hipster feel to it that really turns me off. The workmanship is nothing to write home about and far too much emphasis is put on the appearance of the finished article rather than its functionality.
Example? Buffing up iron and steel components so they glisten: that old coating of grease and grime was preventing rust, in a year's time the tool will be worse off. Looks great on his Instagram though.
I love this channel!
I enjoy seeing the old tools and equipment in the varying states of disrepair, most of which I have never heard of or knew existed. I enjoy the informative and visual way the disassembling is done, making sure to show us all of the parts and markings. I like the effort put into retaining as much of the original material and parts, and I like the solutions that this guy uses when it's not possible to preserve every minute piece.
