How can you design a car in such a way that buffeting is a default when the windows are down?

How?

Another Mustang GT weakness: The 10 speed. I hate it, the TCU cannot figure out what gear to put it in because there's so many that it often lags and sits in a bad gear. You have to pull paddles in it which also sucks because there's 10 fucking gears. I hate the "iF iTs NoT MaNuAl ItS nOt A rEaL cAr" crowd but this is a car where the manual is waaaay better.

R8 weakness: The stupid ass cupholders. The cupholders are in the arm rest. So if you want to have a bottle of water in your car, you cannot rest your arm and you also get the arm rest sticking up/leaning on it the whole time. Atrocious design.

Shouldn't the AC cut on WOT and the aerodynamics make it a wash for running with the window open vs with AC on?

It is frustrating that people keep saying that the LC500 infotainment is bad, and then fail at explaining why.

Unlike what is stated in the video, it is not difficult to change the radio stations. There are physical buttons both on the steering wheel and the center console just for changing radio stations. If you insist on using the touchpad, then there is a physical "radio button" that brings up the radio screen in the infotainment system as a shortcut.

It is other functions that make the infotainment frustrating to use: The voice recognition is bad. Input of letters when writing addresses is poorly executed. Some UI elements are inconsistent. There is a general reliance on movement which is unintuitive.

In fact. The radio is one of the few systems in that infotainment unit that works alright.

That's it. When I get out of lockdown I am going to make the most boring LC500 video ever where I meticulously go through all of the failings of the infotainment system.

That super quiet, "Ha ha" from Nelson when he spins out in the Mustang...

The Mercedes creaking interior is honestly disappointing.

A close friend recently picked up the GT 53 AMG 4 Door Coupe and it was one of the first things I messed with him for, and low and behold it creaked like crazy upon pressing. Just sucks when you're paying 6 figures for a luxury sports car and it's not built as well as it should for the price. Looks very pretty, but there's no excuse for that when paying ~$130k...

My cousin has a brand new C300 that also has creaking, but honestly it can somewhat be overlooked considering it's not insanely expensive. It also has quite a bit of rattling too which is rather annoying considering Mercedes' slogan is, "The best or nothing." It may not be Mercedes' most expensive car, but it's not the cheapest vehicle either.

To be honest here, and I literally own one, nearly every ford model deserves the Tesla complaint too.

My brand new mustang needed the dealer to fix rattles. The headliner isn't lined up correctly, and plenty of panels have uneven panel gaps. I'd rather cut Tesla, the new kid on the block some slack over manufacturing defects over Ford, who practically invented mass production.

here are 10 great cars with one huge weakness you're watching throttle house i'm thomas and i'm james and this week thomas and i talked about how there are so many great cars out there and yet some of them seem to have a little catch yeah james and i got talking about cars that are brilliant but have an achilles heel something that lets them down in one way and these aren't necessarily deal breakers in fact it's a bit like finding out that your partner has a third nipple it's there and it it's fine it's fine it's there but it's fine yeah it's fine right james is this supposed to cut back to james i wasn't talking about you i wasn't it was just an example i what i promise if you're new to throttle house we do car reviews track tests and quite a lot of messing about so subscribe hit the bell alright in 10th place for a great car with the most annoyingness thing is the audi s8 we just drove this car recently in the california mountains against the bmw m760li and it truly amazed us no yep it's a master class in luxury limo and from the inside it's a sight to behold and the reason it looks so great is because of all of those lovely screens in the center console the same center console that controls every function of the car and with that comes an insane piece of fingerprint real estate unfortunately rather than containing the fingerprints to just those screens audi poured gasoline on the fire and surrounded the entire area in an almost comical amount of piano black and unlike mercedes or bmw you can't option it out in fact the only thing you can do is add more piano black and despite the s8 being the one that we've highlighted here a lot of new audis actually have this problem and if you even look at the interior you fingerprint it it's an nsa agent's wet dream fortunately if you can afford an audi s8 you can probably afford a microfiber cloth as well number nine the ford gt500 this is probably one of the most impressive cars that we've driven so far this year oh sweet bald headed baby jesus that's fast the brakes are incredible dynamically sensational blisteringly fast and it looks fantastic and you might have actually seen us race it against the camaro z011le and a hellcat red eye with jason kamisa and randy post that was a cool day and you might have seen thomas struggle to get off it off get it off the line come on come on come on oh the delay not even close yes and behind the scenes randy himself actually had a difficult time timing the launch [Music] and that's because there's a delay built into the launch control so when you lift your foot off the brake while the throttle is mashed it doesn't go straight away and yes at the drag strip this doesn't really matter that much you're doing timed runs but you know every once in a while you kind of want to race someone in a closed safe environment it's obviously a programming issue in an otherwise almost perfect car but it certainly ticked thomas off [Music] but fortunately it's for a very specific situation which is why it finds itself quite low down in our list of weaknesses number eight the cadillac ct5 we actually already brought this car up in our cars that don't deserve the hype video because it's the start of a new moniker for cadillac since we lost the ats and the cts and it has some fantastic attributes but the flaw is the transmission and drivetrain the shifts are the only word [Music] great chassis incredibly comfortable seats great driving position and really quite an upmarket interior basically it's a really good start for the ct5 it just feels held back i mean i get it i assume that cadillac is intentionally leaving space between this car and their v cars and now their black wing v8 car but it feels like the car had a whole bottle of red and spent three hours in the jacuzzi put it this way there's a lot of competition for base models nowadays and we just feel that cadillac could have sharpened the knife a little bit all right for our next car we wanted to find a guest star so we put a psa out to see if any car journalists felt particularly bitter about one car or another before we'd even finished asking the question the biggest car margin in history said yes please so here's jason kamisa with the lc 500 my first pet peeve is people talking in the news announcer voice even though they're stuck at home with covet 19. knock it off look as an enthusiast my first and immediate reaction is disqualify every supposed sports car that comes with an automatic transmission because in the world according to me at least a sports car should be about maximizing experience rather than minimizing 0 to 60 numbers thanks to launch control uh no but as a journalist it's actually totally different it's infotainment and the lexus lc 500 is my example this is a car that is beautiful and it's beautifully crafted and it's a wonderful grand touring coupe but i can't recommend it to anyone because of the infotainment i mean you would have no chance changing a radio station while driving and when i say you i'm talking about you guys who are like 18 and 20 and sitting in your underwear in your parents basement the 65 year old people who are intended to buy this car they're gonna die in a fiery crash without question if they try to change a radio station so it's really a shame that such a well-engineered wonderful car can be a complete fail just because of its infotainment but the fact is i can't recommend that car for fear of safety for the people buying it and now back to you in the studio tommy and what so what's his name jane i don't know whatever wow doesn't even know my name i took turns tucking him into bed with randy popes while he was feeling unwell and i brought him tissues way too many tissues call a doctor i don't know what one man needs all those tissues for but yeah that hurts man i thought we had something there number six the toyota 86 brz first off it's an amazing car fun light naturally aspirated james actually owned one and loved it and that's for good reason it's light it's fun and it's one of the very few affordable new manual sports cars out there i bought it used though and got a wicked wicked deal but it's not without some issues i'm not going to get into stuff like the engine crickets and certain little quirks like that i'm talking about a design issue yeah it's actually something we first came across under the passenger seat eight six what's this good for chips and salad dressings it comes on every h6 call it header design and or emissions regulations but there's a significant drop in torque when you hit about 3000 rpm which makes it a bit annoying to drive around at slow speeds or if you're trying to do a really aggressive pull it's not perfect and for whatever reason when toyota and subaru redid the interior of this car a few years ago they actually added a handy dandy little graphic so you can see the torque dip and constantly be reminded of how annoying it is thankfully a set of headers and a tune will fix this right up but out of the box it's kind of the only achilles heel to a pretty much perfect affordable sports car number five the tesla model three slash y slash x slash all that all the teslas yep this is an issue with every single tesla model before we go any further we want to reiterate that we really really like teslas they're super cool and and really fast yeah no they're lovely they're lovely cars yeah we really like we really we really like them yep great cars great cars thomas you you have to say it i don't wanna yeah but listen thomas i know the tesla audience is a bit touchy but just just do it just get it over with wow fine their build quality is abysmal [Music] [Music] number four the audi rs3 okay in the past i've been accused of being a bmw fanboy but i love the rs3 in fact there's not a single thing wrong with it but there is one thing what no audi all the way i say i even own audi apparel thomas did you just make that you spelt vorsprung wrong huh so the rs3 like many audis is fantastic looking has a solid interior a great ride and in this case a legendary sounding five-cylinder engine that sounds like this but its greatest enemy is understeer when it comes to a corner even though audi fitted wider tires to the front of the car than they did to the back and even though you'll hear people say that it can send a hundred percent of its power to the rear wheels which it can in theory but not in practice it still just plows on in a corner basically while cars like i don't know the miata or the supra can do this or even the tesla model 3 [Applause] or the type r can do this [Music] the rs3's front axle doesn't grip very well due to the placement of the engine and the all-wheel drive system which means that it can catch you off guard like it did this time in my first hot lap in the rs3 last summer the thing is if you're just living with it the rs3 is brilliant if it was between that and say a bmw m2 competition i'd take the rs3 for the city we just wish that audi's top of the line little performance car was more dynamically inclined when you really push it number three the mercedes c-class and and some of the other mercedes is too fun to drive comfortable looks great and as always a bastion of luxury as long as you don't touch it yeah there's some creaking yeah we've driven some phenomenal mercedes cars recently things like the cls 53 with that incredible mild hybrid amg engine or the amg gt63s which just goes full beast mode it's absurd but even lower in the mercedes range cars like the c300 and the a-class have really impressed us however press on the interior panels in some of these mercedes and while their rivals don't creak at all the mercedes seems to creak all the live long day there's a little bit of creaking to this plastic that i'm not a huge fan of wow everywhere now that is not awesome kind of like every time you hug an elderly family member something somewhere cracks and you don't know why even though everything is probably fine you always have it in the back of your mind you don't want to touch anything and fear that it creaks and sounds cheap it makes the whole experience of being inside one of them kind of delicate and it sounds like a small thing but we often get asked out the interiors of the germans which one do we prefer and because of this small thing it's often not the mercedes the c-43 we tested recently an amazing car by the way once you hear it creak once feels like a cheap clunk of plastic yeah there's some creaking yeah yeah it sounds like the dorms in college not my dorm but and it's hard to let that go i mean the thing costs 70 grand that said we found the extra cost carbon fiber trim to not really creak that much at all but even in some of the very high end models it's still prevalent like the amg gt63s yeah well you know what we got some there was a mercedes creaking going on that's a 500 walnut open poor trim that's creepy that creaks like crazy but the g-class might as well be a tank it didn't creak at all number two the mustang gt okay this is the second mustang on this list and it seems like we're picking on them but remember this is a list of great cars so the fact that it appears twice should tell you how much we love it probably the most common question that we get asked on instagram is which one would we take the mustang or the camaro and it's not an easy answer the camaro has the better chassis and the mustang has that unbelievably charismatic coyote engine it sounds so good and on the outside of the car it actually sounds even better but there is one issue with the mustang that we can't quite let go the steering you see the steering in the camaro is direct and sharp but it also communicates what the rubber is doing on the pavement to your hands the mustang does feel direct and sharp but it's very numb there isn't any communication from the road it's a bit dull off-center and then the weight that builds when you turn into a corner feels kind of gooey and unnatural which for piddling around town isn't actually much of an issue it just means it's harder to control at the limit in fact last season when thomas was sliding all those cars around our track this was the only one he spun out in yeah and that's because when the rear tires were lit and the car was sideways i had a hard time figuring out where the front tires were pointing so it caused a spin i mean i know it's totally strange a mustang spinning out of control that never happens number one the toyota supra we need to start out by saying that we're very interested in trying the new four-cylinder supra maybe because it's a better value option but more because we hope it fixes the one thing that we have an issue with and the four-cylinder has a whole bunch of questions surrounding it like what does it go up against at that 40 000 u.s price we actually asked you guys on instagram and got a whole bunch of interesting responses so make sure you join the discussion by following us there so once we get back to our track perhaps we'll find a suitor or two for that but if you haven't seen our track test with the three liter supra make sure to check it out here it was fun that was an interesting day mainly because the supra was very fun to drive even if it didn't set the fastest lap time but that does bring us on to the issue usually when i'm setting lap times i have the windows down so that i don't have to have the air conditioning on which sucks power and then i don't die of heat exhaustion but in the supra i literally could not keep the windows down because anything above 80 kilometers an hour or 55 miles an hour the buffeting becomes so unbelievably insane that you feel like you're gonna get knocked out oh yeah i don't know if the mic is picking it up but it's buffeting really badly it is it is painful the base reverberation gets in your head and is pretty terrible yeah it's like they never took it for a test drive at any speed because the buffeting starts about 30 miles an hour and it will literally take your face off right there that's just like so weird it's so weird and it's a strange omission because you'd have thought if you were toyota and you were building something from the ground up and it was your baby then you'd go to great lengths oh yeah never mind all right thanks for watching it's quite an interesting bunch of cars there obviously there are a ton of cars out there that we might have missed that are brilliant with one or two issues let us know if there's any we missed and if you have any ideas of what else we should talk about while we're in this time of isolation let us know that too uh on that note people seem to be increasingly concerned despite my earlier you know warnings that everything is fine about me being in a creepy church tower it's apt what was that what was that mummy you
