It's basically the BMW Supra thing all over again. Do you judge a car by its own merit or do you judge it against its legacy, in this case Supra & Mustang. For me, I think it's time to stop caring about the names, because car companies clearly doesn't care about the names.

As someone who worked at Ford, who owns a Mustang GT, I sincerely hope this car does well...and I think it was a good first shot. Much better than others, but I don't think it's as good as Tesla.

I think it looks really good. Not happy they diluted the mustang name, but I understand why they had to. The range still needs to be higher, and I don't Ford's software or UI will be as good as the Model 3/Model Y.

Forget the fact that Tesla's can be supercharged which is a huge plus.

Despite that, I think Ford can nail down the overall vehicle better due to the companies vast resources.

The reality is calling this a mustang was genius. More people are talking about this car than any new ev suv. The mustang has changed so much over the years people need to get over themselves

The mods removed the Doug Review because throttle house was first.

I like throttle house, but would enjoy interacting with Doug's review, as well.

It's a bit over-modding IMHO.

oh i like this okay listen ford are jockeying for a position in the market right this isn't a one-trick pony okay i know you don't like crossovers thomas but if you get in there and you hoof it you're going to realize this is going to get more than just a cult following a cult following you're just doing horse puns aren't you nay you know that means i have to slap you right that's a rule yeah okay [Music] you're watching throttle house i'm thomas and i'm james and this is the all-electric mustang the mustang mock e a very very important vehicle for ford until the mock egt comes this premium extended range all-wheel drive model is the most decked out one you can buy so it's got fancy stuff like a bang olufsen sound bar plenty of push with 428 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels and a not so small 435 kilometers of range that does put it short of tesla's similarly priced and sized model y long range but the mustang is about 500 pounds heavier however this vehicle wears a more familiar badge a badge that has incited tons of controversy and ford has doubled down on this truly being a mustang i said to the team this is a mustang you better drive like water which means today not only are we going to judge it as an ev but it better be pretty damn fun to drive as well we do car reviews track tests and quite a lot of messing around so subscribe and hit the bell alright the last mustang we were in was a gt500 which when you put your foot down in that there's an avalanche on the other side of the world put your foot down in this you're delivered for the first time ever in a mustang electric torch so it doesn't roar but if you have propulsion sound on it actually emulates a low rumble of a v8 a lot of people are going to be really focused on is this a mustang if we are going to measure it against a mustang mustangs tend to have the most amount of power or a lot of power for their class this doesn't have a faster naught to 60 times than the other cars the model y long range is quicker so is the pulse star 2 than this premium all-wheel drive long range trim ford claims 4.8 seconds to 60. i'm at 60 battery now but let's try it okay i got the draggy okay 60 what we got 5.37 seconds not bad absolutely all the power you would ever need and just to give ford a little benefit of the doubt that was on 60 charge and with winter tires so by all accounts i reckon a 4.8 is definitely possible in ideal conditions the turning circle is okay nothing very special but the best part is the way they've tuned the throttle even if i slam it it comes on smoothly and it's a single gear transmission not like what you'd find in a tie cup so we know that it can launch its excessive weight no problem and thanks to these big breaks it can break no problem but what happens when you take the mustang marquee into a corner ford spent a lot of time tuning this car on a massive mock e simulator so that it can drive like a mustang they've actually developed a brand new multi-link rear suspension system and they've tuned the chassis to take advantage of the low center of gravity as opposed to the low center of gravity just being a thing that comes with an ev but again this isn't the mach e gt so i'm not expecting that much i was wrong i was wrong [Music] oh man this exceeds expectations i was not ready for how well this car goes around a corner you can just toss it in at speeds and unlike an actual mustang the steering is really good great on center field decent feedback perfect weight and ratio very precise the damping is quite good the only time i notice it you know being not exactly dialed in is over a really big bump where i seem to get one extra motion that i want but 99 of what you go over oh it feels locked down and the chassis is very well balanced you see me coming through here it naturally oversteers but with the traction control off it will allow a little bit of slip in those rear wheels and you can rotate it on the throttle however you can't turn the traction control all the way off which is a big bummer because i want to be able to do that if this wasn't a mustang i probably wouldn't be complaining about the fact that you can't turn the traction control off but that's how they've sold it to me so that's what i'm gonna say that said this is a fantastic vehicle to drive it's genuinely fun in the corners look at this i love the way the throttle is calibrated i love the way the steering is calibrated they just dialed this thing in but if you're not buying a mustang and you just want a good ev this will do the school run this will do the grocery trips because the ride is fantastic and the interior tech is intuitive it's comfortable the seats are great visibility's fantastic it kind of does it all and i even like the fake sound [Applause] i'm so happy james it's a game changer it's brilliant it's an opposite of a game changer it's just exactly what needed to happen yes exactly it is the game it is it is exactly what america needed in an ev i don't want to say america doesn't like change but you know with only the only options being like tesla and polestar this is so familiar this is something you just turn up to your ford dealership and it's sorted and it has a frank yeah it does it's great um yeah thirsty it's refreshing what are you doing all right we're going for this look underneath oh no way it's a cooler for a tailgate party it's a cooler because it because it's a drain you could plug it and fill it and there's a little spot to hold a definitely not a beer but a bottle of water all right that's not my culture i don't understand that he's not excited you can't process a little english plane here that's a tailgate party so it's not so just for the english people watching this it doesn't refrigerate no it doesn't refrigerate no but you just fill it with ice you fill it with ice you fill it with ice and then you're naughty that's so cool so go back to what we say before yeah it is definitely what america wants 100 and canada six months of the year can we talk about the way that it looks like come over here come over here and look at this from the side okay i don't love the profile personally i disagree really yeah okay it looks like a cool crossover and i will say that it's less cross-overy in real life like it's not quite as high as i thought it was going to be but it feels high inside it does it just doesn't look that high well they've done some cool stuff so obviously there are some mustang queues the lights are very mustang yes that shows the front end they've done this two-tone here so that so that it tricks your eyes into thinking it's sleeker than it is but this is actually the headroom inside not this yes and we'll test that in a second obviously this is controversial whether it's a mustang or not you know what if you just let yourself feed into marketing you're gonna have a bad time right yes because my left nut is an amg now and other things are an m car and you know there's a lot of controversy there's a lot of crap i agree i don't care anymore if the car is good the car is good at some point we have this upgrade we have a choice and this car is great but but can we talk about these because these are a thing people have a problem with these it's kind of weird apparently the research suggests that the rear doesn't get a handle because kids don't use handles they'd rather pull the door that can't be true i just don't trust kids the research sounds very flawed i will say that like zombie apocalypse i don't i don't love this like when you're like you know you panicking like i want to be able to just go cool and open the door we are always on the eve of the zombie apocalypse we are right now yes but apparently they're good for minus 40 celsius so at least they'll continue working we hope until like that one day in february um can we look at the interior yeah all right all right doesn't feel like a mustang in here no you know what it is is it's better than a mustache it's better this feels like the love child of a pole star 2 and tesla yeah it's got kind of all the good things of each i mean we do have these screens okay this is a big screen this is a big screen it also definitely has kind of the old glue to the dashboard vibe that we make fun of often yep but i will say that this everyone's going to want to talk about this a lot right i don't want to spend too much time on it because there's going to be detailed reviews all over the internet but i just like that it has it does have a volume a physical volume i really like that and and there's a screen behind it right this is all part of the same screen so when you do that in this little animation yeah that's really neat this is very easy to get on with all the buttons are huge yeah it's idiot proof pretty it is yeah no i really like it also i like that the fundamentals for me are right here there's no menu going through the heated seat and the heated steering wheel are right there i still wouldn't mind if this was a physical layer i agree this could have been a serious button but this is probably cheaper to make um driving modes there they are very exciting they're in a weird order though yeah i mean i guess it's in the most popular order so this is engages like normal we decided that's normal i guess that's normal yes balanced drive fun and engaging and then whisper seamless there isn't just someone creepily whispering behind you that's right yeah and then unbridled bridled exhilarating drive machine and road align as one do you know what words would have worked better for these than engage whispered and bridled normal quiet exciting yeah normal quiet sport or sport yeah yeah that's okay that's fine they're having fun down here this is trimmed in leather that's very nice the whole interior is very nice we've got a b o sound bar here yep quite fancy but what what mustang has that none no we do but we do have the automatic shifter that we find in the ecoboost and yeah i'm getting in the gt500 it's the same one as youtube i'm getting used to it i'm getting used to okay it even deals with one of my small pet peeves which is wireless car plate is not always a perfect system yes it gives you the choice both it gives you wired only all wireless i like this spot for the phone it's big it's rubberized and it's useful also you know what it does feel what normal you jump in this car yes you know it doesn't have that like foreign territory that comes with the tesla with a tesla it doesn't feel alien it's just immediately i know how to turn this on i know how to put it in gear and i'm off yeah turn signals wipers little screen in front of me for my speed and it says ground speed is an homage to mustangs right i think this is it com i just realized how much headroom there is actually that's worth you know so it is singing a crossover yeah and just being so content with it and i don't know i don't know whether it's an identity crisis but we've got horrendous roads here they crack over winter yes this is high off the ground maybe being high off the ground as a driver isn't such a thing except the low center of gravity destroys that it destroys that concept so like generally the issue that i have with the crossovers is that they don't handle well and this does well that's we said that about the pole style too exactly handled great so i don't mind right yeah and the head room is nice and the huge sunroof is a huge glass roof right massive comfort heater seat the rear seats are very spacious as well right like honestly when you get back there they've thought about it they've put the thought it's actually a ton of storage back here and since it's an ev the floor is flat all the way back too yeah there's no center tunnel so the person in the middle also has legroom well it's kind of hard to get in because the roof is a little bit sloped but like you know yeah you can you can easily you can easily yeah yeah but there's lots of room to sit yes yeah steering wheel i like this got to point it out right it's very simple it's got the good shape i i will say that there's a little bit of kind of mustang ford quality coldness forwardness in here right like this is a bit like not super solid this leather isn't the most expensive feel so i mean but then again the pole star 2 for that price also didn't have very good quality stuff on the internet but they've both gone for this kind of like scandinavian furniture kind of fabric yeah yeah just kind of like a rugged vibe yeah like it you know i i don't have many bad things to say about this that's great i'm so shocked at my level appreciation i must and this might be either the first morning i woke up on the right side of the bed or or it's genuinely just a good car and guess what it's option b it's genuinely a good car the issues if any seem minor it's a bit too noisy on the highway and you can feel the mass over certain bumps or when you're chucking it around but until we get to spend more time with it our list of issues ends there it doesn't drive like a sports car it just drives like a really competent engaging comfortable car so whether or not they made a mustang here we don't know or really care because as a first purpose-built ford ev and as an all-around performer they absolutely nailed it you
