The Isetta was an essential car for post-war Germany. Cars weren't really mainstream in Germany at that point and motorcycles were the most many people could afford. Even a VW Kรคfer was a big expense for many people, that's why there were a bunch a strange, little cars like the Isetta, the Messerschmitt Cabin Scooter or the Goggomobil.
And, believe it or not, people drive that thing from Germany over the Alps (over in a litteral meaning, there weren't any tunnels there yet) to Italy.
And there were also the BMW 600 which had rear doors and a front door and the Zรผndapp Janus which had a door in the front and a door in the back.
Edit: The German nickname for the Isetta is "Knutschkugel" wich translates to something like "kissing ball" because, James said, it's good for dating ^^
Edit2: This is how an Isetta cockpit looks like when it's in good state.
I'm glad Throttle House is growing. Their videos are really good.
Did Thomas just say baggels? He britta'd it!
I did not know these things were going for 50k CAD, I think I have enough room in the garage for it if I put the lawnmower in the shed.
I loved this review, really gave me Top Gear vibes where Clarkson drives absurd vehicles and does dumb stuff with them.
I think the Z1 is a serious contender for weirdest BMW.
aka The Urkelmobile
The Isetta is the perfect BMW to electric swap and use to transport only yourself. Itโs small, itโs light, itโs simple, itโs free of silly government regulations, its too underpowered for todayโs driving environment with the original powertrain, thereโs no differential needed since the rear wheels are close to each other, and its economical (except the purchase price).
This video is HILARIOUS!!!
Whenever this is here, someone has to mention the Microlino.
