🐊 How to build water viewing in Habitats 🐊 - STEP BY STEP - Planet Zoo Hints, Tips & Tutorials

[Music] hey guys welcome to how to build water viewing version - so we've done one that looks like this however I'm gonna teach you to make one that looks like this okay now I'm gonna do this step by step and I hope you can follow along easily should you have any issues following it along or you struggle with anything please leave a comment and I'll do my best to get back to you and help you as much as possible but what we're gonna is fiddling honest with you guys from this point it is a little bit fiddly but the results at the end as you can see from that picture and the video is to never start are fantastic and it offers a lot of benefits which will explain as we as we go along so first things first we need to build ourselves a nice big big tantrum what if we want to call it habitat ID so on nice big habitat so let's just build a massive one go crazy okay this is obviously a dramatic recreation by the look of it boy it's gonna give you guys an idea of what we can it what we can do okay so now you need to put in the gate so here we have a habitat looking swish what we're gonna do is build our platform right in the middle so it is simple but it's fiddly so first things first get some path okay you can use any size you like obviously this will determine the size of your viewing platform so first things first you need to put a square right in the middle okay so press one down there you have it okay then you need to click align to grid okay and we're gonna go like that and we're gonna build ourselves a square and then we're going to have three on the end okay it has to be a rectangle it has to be four by three then what we're going to do is get the terrain tool here and we're gonna push down right around it like so so you can see looks pretty good tricky part here you need to then start deleting this so you're left with this three on the end then we'll push down again then you're gonna add that path back in so click align to grid you see it won't do anything there however if you click just off it once twice you've got like a tee so that's what you're aiming for you're aiming for a tee then we're going to delete these three and this one and I know this is fiddly guys please bear with me then we're going to get rid of this so we're going to push down and then you have this platform now the reason I've done it this way to make it super important and not just doggy it out and thrown it in is to make sure it's perfectly lined up with the level up here you can by all means just select these paths hold it there go up slightly down slightly and then pull it over and it will probably be roughly around the same height but I wanted to make sure this was perfect so the easy way if you don't want to do it my way hold some path over the terrain dig a big hole and then just hold it there press shift drag it up a tiny notch down a tiny notch and it will hold at that height okay that's the easy way but I don't do things the easy way so here we have this then you're gonna press the ladder to quit again and you're gonna make yourself the same except you gonna leave the middle empty okay the reason we do that turn off the grid and you're gonna select the path there and we're gonna what we're going to do is we're going to create some stairs so right here coming out of here is that gone am I going mad it's doing that thing where the path forms like okay so see the way it's highlighted sort of going into the middle we're gonna click and then press and pull the mouse down so you got stairs and you want to levels then you can level it out just like that so make sure tunneling is now on and we're going to take this outside of the habitat okay see you know answer here that's roughly in the right place I'd say so we're going to run this out there we go and then we'll go up so the tunneling will take it automatically up and the other bonus here is it perfectly levels with this now see what I've done here where I've carried on with tunneling on that will just keep taking away the ground so if you go back a step so you're at this point turn off tunneling yell then just level up with the ground and you can connect it to the path now this is going to be your entrance over here to your viewing platform and you can see here underneath it's nice smooth because you had suddenly no it's the perfect paper guests it just works really well they all come up here jobs are Gordon okay so remember my way is slightly more complicated but it gives me precision if you want to do it an easy way just get a piece of path on here like so hold shift go up a bit down a bit and then dig a hole and build a platform like this and one the path Oh either ways fine I prefer my way okay now what you're gonna do is get the terrain tool here you're gonna go to the flats a foundation whack these right up and you're gonna cover this just like so now bear in mind all your paths and everything will stay perfectly covered very important now what we need to do is install some barriers so one end will have a slightly wider berth than the rest but we'll see so barriers now you want clear glass okay so here we have the barrier as you can see you want to have it so you'll go to the corner of here you want to come just out of it okay you see you want to run right along the edge of that fact and then we're gonna make sure it's the right size so let's move this out a bit perfect okay so you repeating the same process all the way around now if you get to a point like this where it won't go you're too close so pull this one out a tiny bit more it's its little little steps guys don't go crazy pulling out loads the trick to this and the the effect of it floating like the the island and the water is to make sure it's super close that keeps jumping back oddly off okay so we are super close you can see still to close so you wanna come out a tiny bit more there you go and you can alter this as you go don't forget that okay so now we're here you want to go over this bit just by the path okay and we're going to move that in in a second to be as close as we can possibly get it okay so first things first let's line this up to there okay so now we've got it there this is the tricky bit you have to click on it edit the barrier so we're gonna highlight the whole barrier like this okay and you want it higher than the path I know that looks odd right now but it's the only way we can get this to work then what you're gonna do is dig out this ground all the way around it to be like a pool but you have to be very careful not to leave any holes so I'm actually gonna use this so we don't wait this is the in-game terrain tool I've got a video on my channel showing you how to use it and I'm gonna go for a height of five and you'll see if we hold it there press X and the X is the key put it where you want it make sure it's the perfect height and press X okay because then you can just run around with it and it will remain in the perfect place so we're gonna click and it will dig out the ground we'll go across click and you can see here it's digging it out quite nicely okay so you're gonna go all the way around and I'm gonna try and have the same depth okay perfect keep going excellent okay so from there you will need to do a few little tweaks but you'll get the you'll pick it up really quickly this is definitely the easiest way to do this so you see we've got a little bit of a dimp-dimp over there we go perfect so it takes a little bit of tweaking like I said I didn't claim a beginning that this is easy but it is brilliant when it when it works okay so as long as you stay on this side of the barrier the water part of it will stay absolutely perfect see we've done this with the ground here don't worry about that right now we'll fix that two seconds all part of the plan okay so now we're going to move in slightly and flatten all of this so you want it right up to that barrier effect okay make sure we go right up to it just smoothing it out making it look much better so if we go in you can see there's still tiny bits here in there okay absolutely perfect you've got to make sure okay right up against the barrier here as well the trick here is that the barrier is is watertight okay absolutely perfect so what we need to do now because we're on we're not filling here we're on fill in if you want to know how to use this effectively please check out my easy terrain tutorial video okay so that effectively is going to be our water but you look at the big hole so what we need to do is click fill now instead you can see it's a little high so what we're going to do is we're gonna go down so it's just just above the height of the barrier and it will cover these stairs now remember because we've got you see the way to show in like all these yellow and red squares they won't get filled if I click you'll see it's going to be the perfect height still we want to make sure it seals around that barrier just like that okay ignore that bit for now because we're going to drop that barrier in a second but that effectively I hate the way it stays there we go you can see that underneath here it's not covering a thing so what we need to do now is alter this barrier so if we press it edit there we go all the way around okay what you need now is move it so by going down the barrier automatically snaps into place see perfect but don't go too far down you still want it to be much higher than the path what we're going to do now is get our water and I'm going to use roof water and put it right at the top of there see that absolutely perfect and this is the part where you'll get your barrier so edits barrier will it right around and lower it down and you can go right down to the level of the war you'll see it go blue absolutely perfect okay this kind of thing can be avoided by while the barrier is still up get your terrain tool okay remove the water again go flatten to Foundation lower it a bit don't go over this but just lower or raise you to say all of this so it sort of matches everything else all the way around and it just makes sure any little dimples in the ground they see like here or anything any grass or anything like that will all remain looking absolutely perfect there we go I'll pop the watering again so now the ground is nice and flats and the waters in okay you see it's still slightly there so we are gonna go up to the edge with it I think so let's have another little go with that I told you it's fiddly to get this right its ability took me forever on my own right up to that edge hey there we go that should absolutely sort it out there you go a few little bit sport you can play with that and get it perfect so Daisy you've got like a water viewing platform we'll drop this so edit barrier there we go okay right there way down low as you can see so now you go there you go now you can see we are perfectly flush with this now there's a couple of things you can do here to make it look even more fantastic and I am gonna do them here however if this is all you wanted to know now's the time to leave the video thank you for watching but we're going to crack on and make it look much better so we're gonna grab some terrain tools okay now there are two things you can do here you could line this with wall so if you would go into construction pick out a piece of wall any piece of wall will do okay will go just under that because we've used the tunneling tool look how perfect it comes out now if I was to duplicate that okay absolutely fine I could even do a row along the bottom to make sure it's fully covered I mean to be fair doesn't look half bad you know I mean it actually doesn't look half bad you can even go up against that there okay that's what we'll do we'll go up to here but I'll show you the other option in a second okay but when you come down here now you've got to make sure that this is clear for guests to walk through so you'd use where is it we've got like an archway piece here like so so you just join it in to where and there so they can come down and they'll walk through and that's obviously your line it all up to a super-nice or on the other side we can actually just use the terrine brochure your pig Rock okay but this is where we'll use our you know we'll make it look rough like so you want to use a bit of blending and then add a little bit of smooth over it and then mix in a tiny intensity of dirt just to bring out that rock looking thing either way it doesn't matter this would probably look more realistic I'd have the rock I mean sorry I'd have this probably pour right up to that edge like so okay on either side in fact I tell you I'll do I'll build this for use now to show you what I'm thinking so right up to that edge there we go absolutely perfect okay then we're gonna bring this in shrink that down okay and then underneath that we can use the other there is a reverse piece like this okay so if we split all of this up like so and then you lower it you go just below there you can then use the 1 meter pieces or whatever we've got just to line it up and this all comes down to splitting buildings and things it's a little more advanced but if you don't watch John T's video over at geek ISM he's done a fabulous tutorial on building tips but you can see there are well lined up that is you could even push these out slightly if you wanted to so the just outside the line now if you follow my tutorial really well this path apart from that which we will move over right now because it's gone wrong okay this path will be at the perfect curve down to be able to fill these side bins so if I was to go back into here and select roof and then just pick a where are we I think it'd be to this should be 2 meters I believe yeah you'll see the standard 2 meter piece will be the absolute perfect there we go depth to go down and you see it'll go all the way down okay you can go slightly in this spit here okay so we're gonna slip these four grab all four and split them this top one here because it's sticking out there are two things you can do and highly recommend just to moving the whole thing in and the whole thing down just below the steps or you could start splitting and changing but it's just gonna take forever so there we go right up to the absolutely perfect and that'll take you down now I'm sure you thinking okay the water could flow over and there's no fence and stuff like that so what we're gonna do is use a fantastic piece we've got here which is the grill and you can see here I'm gonna use oh excuse me there's two here we've got this new world wall decoration number one but I don't like if you see the mounts it's got they'd stick out so we're gonna use this one which is new world wall decoration one window grill okay so we're gonna lower it Cheers below the path we're gonna hold it right there okay so get it just cover in that press X twice for events move and tilt it once and then we're going to dig it back over that so we get it so it just covers it so it's perfect okay and this is going to look like a water barrier okay so any water that comes over would sort of flow down and it just looked absolutely fantabulous okay you go right up to the edge bear in mind you need to match these up nicely so they don't cross fight and look see if you add it like that it looks stupid so you want to match it up nice and close on both sides just like that excellent now let's make sure it's where it should be fact okay so let's use the selector tool here we'll turn it into a building so grab hold of them all and here mu merge see new intergroup okay now we want it on the other side so click on it press control X and you'll end up with the advanced tool press X again and then rotate it around like so and then make sure it's perfectly straight this should have done with angle snap see it's an angle snap now it's time for silly beta right press X and do it again make sure uncle snaps on and when you rotate it I'll be perfectly straight and then run it over to the other side so you just covering it how perfect is that absolutely perfect we'll run this one across slightly because you can see it's just sticking out so if we go right up to the edge it should match on the other side yeah close enough we'll push this in so only needs to go in there tad so we'll cover the next one in there we go okay now we need to do the edges so easiest way to do it is just grab another wand control X make sure snaps on and then we'll just run it to the edge like this you'll see I work really nicely okay what you can see because our berries are perfectly straight it's run off a tad okay so we are going to have to do this one by hand obviously if I'd spent more time on this the barriers would be very perfectly straight but they're not so we'll work with what we've got here so place one run along it face another and another okay we're getting somewhere which that's the curve in here see so this is where we'll make sure angle snaps off and we'll turn it so it matches like so and we'll join them together okay this one will have to be changed in a second much it right up to that end okay and then if we pull them in like this so they don't overlap that one okay now this is the key one here so we need to make sure this one looks perfect so give it the same gap on each side see the the little lip make sure it's the same on each side like so okay now what I suggest here to stop cross fighting is going up and down with it and then digging it in like so okay so you can see it's looking better okay now the other tricky part unfortunately is grabbing it all together again into a group and we're gonna sand it slightly so just make sure it covers like so everyone's covered excellent so you can see now it just looks like we've got a grid like around the outside so any water that splashes over I'll be there now I've tested this several times and I've done it with several other moles sorry several animals that can't get onto the path from here they can't go over the barrier which is perfectly fine to me because the only way they can climb out of the water is onto terrain so this is working remarkably well for me I'd love to know how all the people are getting on with it now this is a big area so you are you've got a lot of choices really for what you do here however I am gonna use these and cover this whole thing so what I'm gonna do is do it each way which I'll show you what I mean by that so we're going to run right up to the edges perfect it's right there Kate make sure we get just out the side on here as well there we go so that should look even on each side yep okay then what we're going to do is we are actually going to create another group out of this stuff but I'm going to show you how we double lapping so you wouldn't just do two what we do is we'll get another one angle snap basically facing the other way and we'll double a pin like so I'll get it right up against one in this so it'll basically just look a little bit more complex so each side covered and just gives us that little less room to see in there so it's not grabbing it both which is a bit of a pain okay so we'll join them together now as a - okay and we'll move it over okay there we have it that's the easiest way you could of course fill this with planters and things if you really wanted you could have planters surrounding the whole thing whatever you want this so to me looks pretty good you hit a line I'll get rid of these in here where you could line this entire walkway all inside here underneath will go underneath you could line the entire walkway with brick walls so it looks fantastic there's a lot you can do but this is just showing you the the water viewing area so here you have looking I think I mean I think it looks pretty fantastic you'd obviously put a lot more care into your own it doesn't have to be this shape so long as it the barrier you use the same principles as you have done around here and what we're gonna do talk about now is fencing this is probably the end of what I'm going to show you now there are two ways you can do it you can either just click on railing on elevated here okay and then as you click on these you'll get a bit of railing or whatever you want yeah it's alright it's an alright way to do it I mean if you were it's fine if you really want to go around doing that rubbish that's entirely up to you however strict about water volume so this one here just to show you it's a little too close so I'd recommend putting these on first before you pull the barriers in but I wouldn't actually recommend using them at all because they're so plain and boring you could have them up the stairs fine but there's so many lovely fences in the game you could literally have no fence at all if you were feeling adventurous but you could do something so much more with it you could use fencing like this which I believe this is new world yeah so let's put this in and you can see how fantastic it looks it actually reminds me the stuff you get here in the UK in Weatherspoon's ok so we're gonna go right up to the edge no make sure it looks perfect and there's just so much you can do with this you can put we're going to put some benches and stuff out as well to make it look fantabulous ok so that looks pretty good it's running off the edge of it there so let's pull it out there we go ok let's make this one over here okay and then we're gonna do the edges let me get rid of that of that and then here got a slight issue with well if I run this on the end I could just say this is a gate or something yeah we could do that we could say it's a gate okay obviously you can be much more precise than I am I'm just trying to show you guys quickly okay and we'll put one on the other side so it's just a little gate too if you need to go out and feed that whatever animals are there so perfect there you have it right let's just throw down some basic stuff so habitat wise so facilities wise will throw down donation buckets remember you can change the color of these so we'll just throw down some yellow ones who curse okay so we'll put one there obviously you could put barriers around the middle as well if you were that bothered in fact we probably should know an hour look someone will fall down died sewers you know no good fun just giving you a basic idea nice and simple just joining them all you get the idea okay so then we'll throw down some benches so you can have just standard benches looking out onto the water whatever you want okay put down some bins get some light in out of construction make it look all priority so overnight they can still say so you've got that going on I mean you could there's so much you could do what I'm travelling with us we could throw down we've got tower benches and lights you've got bins education boards yeah you could throw down some education boards okay so you could throw down these you can throw down these which are essentially that's the little thing there's no power on them but like conservation type boards you could even throw down these need to turn that off which gives you information on what animals are are you're looking at right now so - oh stop - down just to be sure so yeah this is a long video I get that but it's showing you every nook and cranny that you're gonna need to know and I'd hate to leave you wondering is - how are you gonna get it to work so right the only other thing here I'm gonna suggest is the edges here okay I probably should have said this earlier aambat your animals are going to struggle to get out of this so you are gonna need to put something in to make sure they can get out so you can use these which are fantastic so you could literally just alter them angle them or whatever you can you could even smooth out the terrain to have some ramp entrances on each corner before you put the water and that's all the kind of thing you need to be thinking of someone else will be able to get out of this just because it's level but just to be sure I mean I've tried it like this and they all got out fine but just to be sure you know it's something to think about them so last but not least I'm gonna actually fill it because it looks pretty doggone Glee so I'm gonna fill it with heavy soil make it look smoother better okay and okay but that isn't in a nutshell is what you want I mean you could even if you were feeling I think it's covered in the canopy or awning its canopy yeah you know you could have some shaded areas like so if you wanted to be super posh I mean so people can stand under them and look poor that's basically in a nutshell plenty of other tutorials on the channels for you
