bring conviction so we just thank you for tuning in we thank you for being part of our family want to encourage you to send in your questions which we will answer on an upcoming 3b and today bible q a you pastor ryan day three am pastoral department and we could say singer in israel and very glad you're here brother amen it's a blessing to be here as always and i'm excited to answer some questions amen last but not least sitting next to me my sister shelley quinn and we're so glad that you're here you know i love this program i love being here there's only one thing wrong i love it when you're answering bible q a and you're hosting today all right well today i get to hear the answers from you all so they're all students of the word but most importantly the most important thing we can study and it means nothing unless we seek to find jesus unless we seek to when we study and what we learn we want to put it into practice we don't want to just be a hearer of the word but we want to be doers as well so before we go to the first question let's go to the lord in prayer pastor james would you pray for us yes father in heaven thank you so much for the opportunity we have to open your word there are many questions that have come in that we are privileged to seek answers for our viewers and i pray that your spirit will guide us and them as they listen and as we share from your word the answers to these important questions be with those who are struggling maybe some of the questions we're not able to get to or they're still struggling with maybe some of the answers guide their hearts to you give them more light and understanding comfort and direction we pray in jesus name amen thank you so much first questions coming to pastor ryan all right what is the unforgivable sin exactly i feel like i've committed it can you do it in your mind all right well i can tell you straight up the person who submitted this question the fact that you're asking about it that you're concerned about it is a great sign because someone who has committed this unforgivable sin or the as the bible puts it blasphemy of the holy spirit of course this is a person who has completely resisted the holy spirit and that's what we're going to get into right now let's go to matthew 12 31-32 of course this is where jesus references that unforgivable and you call it a sin but notice what it says here it says therefore i say to you every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men but the blasphemy against the ho notice the spirit will not be forgiven men this is blasphemy of the spirit now um we have to understand and connect this with first john chapter one verse nine because in first john 1 9 it reminds us that if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins to cleanse us from all unrighteousness now that text tells me that there's any sin any sin that you confess jesus christ if you're sincere he will he will he will for not only forgive your sins but he will cleanse you from all unrighteousness so that lets me know that this blasphemy of the holy spirit is not a type or kind of sin in the way that murder is a sin or stealing is a sin but rather it is as you put in your question can you do it in your mind yes it is a state of mind it's a state of being it's when the when a person reaches the point where they resist the holy spirit's work in their life where they don't fully surrender to jesus christ acts chapter 7 verse 51 gives us a hint it says you stiff-necked and uncircumcising heart and ears you always resist the holy spirit as your father did so do you this is stephen preaching to the the sanhedrin court there and he's telling them you resist the holy spirit in a sense that resisting of the holy spirit is very much a blasphemous act because they're rejecting the power of god in their life the holy spirit is to teach us all things yeah to bring all things to our memory to convict us of sin and to bring us into all truth as well as to glorify christ we get that from john 14 26 as well as john 16 verses 8 and verse 13. we need to allow the holy spirit to work in our life so so god cannot forgive us if we don't ask forgiveness so a person who has committed blasphemy of the holy spirit is in a state of resistance they're resisting the holy spirit as paul would say they're quenching or they're grieving the holy spirit and we need to make sure that we're surrendering our life to jesus and allowing that holy spirit to work in our lives amen thank you i think if you have any desire or in clean for god then you know you have not committed that sin you know absolutely shelley matthew 18 18 are these powers literal and given to the twelve apostles or just peter and if so can they be handed down to successors this question comes from duke in california duke matthew 18 18 jesus is addressing all of the disciples not just peter and he says assuredly i say to you whatever your bind on earth will be bound in heaven whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven in context he's talking about dealing with an airing brother he says first when a brother heirs against you go to him personally won't listen take a couple of people with you so in the mouth of two or three witnesses it can be established and then he says if he still won't repent take it to the church because the church has the corporate responsibility to deal with this to try to restore an individual now let's talk about what binding and losing is to lose means that it's an agreement their behavior has come lined up into agreement with god's standard and they can be restored forgiven and restored to full fellowship to bind means hey you're still bound in your sin according to heaven according to the word of god so what we know is that the literal translation is whatever you bind on earth must be bound in heaven whatever you loose on earth must be loosed in heaven it's not that we're making the decision it's that god's will is ratifying the church's decision all sin is confessed before the throne of god first john 1 9 we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins the release of sin only comes through the work of jesus christ and his mediation we cannot substitute human authority for the authority of jesus christ because god's never delegated that prerogative to mankind because man heirs and he needs grace himself so believers can't forgive sins aside from what god's word says now matthew 16 19 is where christ responds directly to peter he says and i've got to read this because he says to peter i will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven in context peter has just recognized and confessed jesus as the christ the son of the living god and jesus is saying to him on that knowledge on this rock of truth i will build my church the keys to enter the kingdom of heaven is knowledge and let me prove that to you in luke 11 52 jesus said woe to you lawyers you've taken away the key of knowledge you did not enter in yourselves and those who were entering in you hindered so it's all about knowledge and you know in matthew 28 when in verse 19 jesus said that we are to teach the converts go baptize teaching them to obey all that he has commanded the church cannot require more than what god's words require in other words as it has to be clearly revealed in the word of god amen thank you so much shelly and if you think that was too fast for me here's what you can do you can watch it on youtube so just check out three bien's youtube account type in the bible q a you can pause it any time you want and then you can rewind and watch it again and get your notes in that way pastor james we're coming to you this is what is the best way to study the bible the best way problem is i don't remember what i read what i read when i read it i can explain stuff but i can't tell exactly where things are taken from to give the verses or books and this question comes from montego bay in jamaica all right from montego bay in jamaica well the things that have helped me in studying the bible and remembering is number one to study for a present need so a lot of times when you study the bible if you're studying a subject that is meaningful to you like i became an adventist i was raised catholic became an adventist and one of the key verses that completely transformed my understanding was daniel 9 20 or 7 25. he shall think to change times and laws can forget that verse you know because that's a verse that just oh wow god predicted this ahead of time i mean it was just it was catalystic to me so so one of the things that we need to do when we study the bible that will help us to remember is to study for a need i remember when i gave my first testimony church ever um second peter 3 9 god is long suffering to us we're not willing that any would perish but all will come to repentance that meant a lot to me and that's a verse i've never forgotten another one was matthew 6 33 you know um seek ye first the kingdom of god now i a year ago i couldn't remember that and i thought it was matthew 5 33. so bible study is like exercise you know you your muscles have memory and if you get out exercise for a while and hebrews 4 5 and 6 talks about exercising in the bible if you get out of it for a while muscle memory will come back so i went where is that verse found it again and now here it is i'm sharing it with you right from heart another thing that is really um helpful in remembering the bible remembering is to study the bible to help somebody else so if you're struggling with an issue and somebody else helps you or you're helping somebody else many times you're going to remember it because it was practical in the way that you were able to help somebody else you know with that struggle or issue another thing is scripture songs yes so many scriptures to memorize from scripture songs first corinthians 13 is a scripture song to me and then studying to share with others generally speaking preaching teaching doing sabbath school many times that's how we remember the scriptures beautiful man that's powerful i love that list shelly we're coming back to you okay this question is from australia if not the angels nor the son know the date of his arrival how does that put the son on equal footing with the father given that the son and the father are one okay let's start with it mark 13 31 because your question's in here it says heaven and earth will pass away this is jesus speaking but my words will by no means pass away so that witnesses his divine nature then verse 32 but of that day and hour no one knows he's talking about the second coming not even the angels in heaven nor the son but only the father himself that clearly witnesses his human nature we know philippians 3 6-8 says that god came down he was in the form of god he took on our flesh and he died for us so our creator god came down and he became the covenant son of god he was perfectly human perfectly divine and he purposely laid aside the exercise of the glory of his deity he laid aside his omniscience his all-knowing he laid aside his omnipresence you know the bible says in luke 2 52 that jesus had to grow in wisdom and stature and as god's ambassador he only communicated what the father committed to him i personally believe if he'd asked the father the father would have told him when he was when would be the date but i think it's because of man's propensity toward procrastination that they both knew all right this wouldn't be good for man to know john 17 5 says this is jesus right before he's crucified he says now oh father glorify me together with yourself with the glory which i had with you before the world was so our risen savior is the exalted savior his glory has been restored i know that the godhead has no secrets so i'm sure now he knows the time of his return amen that's good we're going to revelation for a couple questions here this one's for you pastor ryan how do you interpret revelation chapter 10 verse 9. all right this is a good one first of all to understand verse nine we have to also back up and read verse eight so let's start there first revelation chapter 10 verse eight and nine it says then the voice which i heard from heaven spoke to me again and said go take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the earth first of all paul's there and take in the fact that that book he could have easily said go take the book from the hand or go get that little book and read it or go get the little book and as we're going to find out eat it but yet it's interesting that he adds the word here open that means if it's open that implies that it had previously been what closed sealed shut right and so notice let's continue reading in verse nine so i went to the angel and said to him give me the little book and he said to me take and eat it and it will make your stomach bitter but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth that little book okay the fact that it's open means that it was previously closed there's only one other little book in all the bible that the bible specifically tells us was shut or sealed and of course that is in connection with the book of daniel daniel's that little book and we find this in daniel chapter 12 verses 4 and 9. notice what the bible says in daniel chapter 12 i'm going to read verse 4 9. it says but you daniel shut up the words and seal the book there it is until the time of the end many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall increase verse 9 of daniel chapter 12. and he said go your way daniel for the words are closed up and sealed again till the time of the end so this little book that it's in the angel's hand and of course this angel is none other than jesus christ himself that's a whole other question we're sending a question about that how we can prove that to be jesus but nonetheless the little book is daniel so the book of daniel was sealed up but the question is in revolt in connection with verse 9 what does it mean that he said take it and eat it it'll make your stomach bitter but it'll be as sweet as honey in your mouth this comes within the historical context coming out of the dark ages coming out of that enlightenment period out of that french revolutionary time period of the late 1700s we know that the time of the end pertains to the time from 1798 and onward in other words after 1798 and what's interesting is coming out of that that french revolutionary time period where the bible in christianity was being basically completely cast down and it was being attacked by the enemy out of that brought about a spark and a response of deep deep bible study by protestants all over the world and it brought about what was known as of course in history the great millerite movement william miller and his millerites of course this millerite movement started studying the great time prophecies of the book of daniel and it led them to study the great time prophecy of the 2300 days of daniel chapter 8 verse 14 specifically and it led them to believe that jesus was going to come back when they studied that time frame it led him to believe that jesus was going to come back in 1844 more specifically october 22nd 1844 and out of that of course came a great disappointment now as they're studying these texts guess what the word was so sweet to their taste oh they're just enjoying the study of the word of lord because they believe that jesus is coming back but came october 22nd 1844 jesus did not return and therefore it launched them into a bitter disappointment which is why it says there in verse nine it says but it's uh it says it will make your stomach bitter so in this case that's how we understand historically and prophetically that this particular verse pertains to that great disappointment time period when they were so excited about the scriptures it was sweetest honey in their mouth the beautiful prophecies of daniel but out of it came a great disappointment amen thank you that's a juiced version if you want to know what actually happened october 22 1844 we know jesus didn't come but what actually happened to send in that question and we'll answer that in an upcoming bible q a pastor james we're saying in revelation considering that revelation is a figurative book the writings are figurative in chapter 16 which speaks of the plagues are those figuratives so are the plagues figurative yeah good question so we know the book of revelation is filled with figurative language but the whole book is not figurative in other words there's a lot of places in revelation that are actually literal the first chapter the introduction is very literal up to about verse 10 or so a lot of revelations seven churches is literal language uh revelation five has a section there where they praise god it's all literal toward the end and the lamb revelation chapter six has a latter portion that's literal of revelation seven the whole back end of that is little chapter seven uh revelation 22 21 and 22 most of that is literal so the book of revelation is written with symbols and in symbolic language but a lot of it is literal but then that question it's a good question comes well then how do we discern what's literal and what's figurative how do we know between the two right you're moving through the book of revelation you're thinking well the 144 thousand are you know uh virgins that uh are males they so that must be literal the 12 tribes little jewish male virgins right how do you know what's literal and symbolic and so there are some principles of a prophetic interpretation that we use to understand how we can know if it's literal or symbolic we call these william miller's principles of interpretation biblical interpretation and principle number 11 specifically applies to revelation and the symbols of revelation as well as well as daniel i'm just going to read it to you here it says if a word makes good sense as it stands and does no violence to the simple laws of nature it is to be understood literally if not figuratively now when you go into the seven last plagues and you read that these people that have the mark of the beast are going to get sores or ulcers that makes sense literally when you read that the blood and the water is going to become like the blood of a dead man which is lack of oxygen that makes sense we have that today red tide is what we call it when you see that the sun is going to scorch men ozone layer evaporating that makes sense so these plagues definitely make sense literally and that's how we take them because of this principle amen so you reference this is a follow-up question to what you just shared you referenced william miller's principles of prophetic interpretation if people want to find all of them do you know where they could find them um they are in a book that was written by james white on called life sketches of james white and then i have i have them outlined too and a little study note thing that i could send to three abn and they could make them available it'd be nice to just put them in a little setup you know they'll print them up a little set up and have them available for people to grab things i love that google's a great tool too google is true this is a good time to remind you to send in your bible questions and at the same time if you're interested in this we'll make this available you can just email us at bible q a at 3abn.tv that's bible q a at 3abn.tv so if you want william miller's principles a prophetic interpretation we'll make sure we have that and we can send it to you or if you have a bible question that you want to send in for the panel to answer on an upcoming monday you know we do these programs every monday so um you can always email that or you can text us those questions 618-228-3975 that number again is pastor ryan 618-228-3975 coming back to you all right my question is is the 2520 a sound doctrine is it relevant to our salvation and this one comes from jamaica as well all right well i can give you two simple answers to that two-part question and that is is the 25-20 sound doctrine no and is it relevant to our salvation no let me support that in fact there may be someone watching that's wondering what in the world are you talking about 25 20. back in the day again mid early to mid 1800s again this millerite time period um they had come to the conclusion that out of some some texts found in leviticus chapter 26 more specifically verses 27 and 28 uh talking about how god would chastise the israel seven times for their sins well they applied the year-day principle to that seven times okay seven times 360 days in a biblical year and it came comes to 2520 and so they basically built a prophecy out of that even though it's technically not a prophecy and so basically they came to the conclusion that from about 677 bc all the way to 1844 a.d satisfies that 5 200 and excuse me 2 520 year time prophecy of what they believe to be a time prophecy since then this thing has been put through i mean a ton of different study by many many different people even within the seventh-day adventist church early on ellen white's husband james white i mean he just publicly out i mean he wrote an article submitted articles about this in which he very much put it through and found it wanting he said this is this is not a time prophecy there were some charts made 1843 1850 but by the time you get to 1863 in which the seventh-day adventist church was formulated and formally organized as a church that on their prophetic charts they had removed that 25-20 time prophecy because they found that it was not legitimate and so there's a lot that can be said we can go chase down these little rabbit holes of the 2 520 year prophecy really it's not a prophecy at all in fact it's a non-prophecy and that's why i want to i want to refer you to a couple of sources you can study this further to kind of you know hone in that knowledge and that's of course stephen bohr has a great paper called the 2520 non-prophecy and our very own brother james rafferty has also written a paper called a response to the 25 20 movement it's a great paper and i encourage you to read those study it for yourself and you'll find that it's not a prophecy at all it does not pertain to our salvation and it's not a sound doctrine amen thank you anything you want to add yeah um well no not really i mean that was excellent so no good okay i was just taken in by this thing yeah that's good way to go yay you praise the lord shelly we're coming to you this is from dave concerning the investigative judgment if my case has already been decided does that mean after living a lost life i cannot be saved even after turning my life back to god dave i'm just really worried about your question whether you are being presumptuous or if you think maybe probation's already closed for you which it hasn't in revelation 14 7 the first angel says fear god and give him glory for the hour of his judgment is come now the investigative judgment this is the act of judging the works of the people it began in 1844 there will be an executive judgment that carries out the sentence of the judgment but that's after it's not till after god's probation closes and probation has not closed for you it closes for all when the latter rain this is after the latter rain's been poured out the loud cries been given and the saints have been sealed the investigative judgment is over just before and the turn the probation closes before the return of christ it's announced with this degree in revelation 22 11. he was unjust let him be unjust still he's filthy let him be filthy still he who is righteous let him be righteous still he is holy let him be holy still so everybody's case will have been concluded at that time and decided and then jesus says in the very next verse behold i am coming quickly my reward is with me to give to every man according to his work so you see that the investigative judgment has to be done before he returns because he's got the rewards with him but here's what i want to say to you no one knows the day or the hour that they will die none of us is guaranteed tomorrow and so until we breathe our last i mean that would be the close of probation for you or until the saints are sealed the one thing that you can know is that our gracious god will have mercy on you if you confess your sins second corinthians 6 2 says behold now is the day of salvation psalm 95 7-8 says today if you hear his voice don't harden your heart so don't risk hardening your heart against the holy spirit becoming guilty of the unpardonable sin repent today let god love you receive his love and his forgiveness amen i love that let god love you that's right it's powerful pastor james this is from art who was melchizedek in the bible all right all right well melchizedek is identified in scripture in about three places he's identified in genesis that's the first place we hear about him and then he's identified also in the psalms and then finally in hebrews hebrews 5 and 6 and 7 it's really emphasized there because the book of hebrews is basically taking the old testament scriptures especially when it comes to the sanctuary and the priesthood and the sacrifices and making sense out of them as they relate to and are fulfilled in jesus christ and guess what melchizedek is just such a symbol of representation of jesus christ we read about melchizedek first of all and we'll just look at these verses here in genesis 14 verses 18 and 19. so genesis 14 18 and 19 says in melchizedek king of salem brought forth bread and wine and he was the priest of the most high god and he blessed him that is he blessed abraham and said blessed be abraham of the most high god possessor of heaven and earth so according to the bible melchizedek is king of peace that was peace king of salem and that word salem means peace so he's king of peace and secondly he is the priest of the most high god so he's a king and he's a priest all right and that happens to be the same designation is given to christ in hebrews 5 6 and 7. christ is a king priest now that is a unique um position for christ to occupy you know there's the old testament priesthood the aaron aaron how do we say it the levitical the vertical priesthood excuse me the biblical priesthood and i was slipping there and so the the levites were priests but they weren't kings and kings in the old testament could be kings but they couldn't be priests i mean saul tried that uh other tried that didn't work but christ is a king priest and he's a king priest after the order of melchizedek and that designation is found of course in hebrews chapter 7 as and based on genesis chapter 14. so that is i hope that's a good answer to your question melchizedek was a king priest and a type of christ amen that's a great answer uh pastor ryan coming back to you please explain matthew 10 verses 34 through 36. this is from riva in rutherford new jersey all right well let's read it let's go right there matthew chapter 10 verses 34-36 jesus says do not think that i have come to bring peace on earth i did not come to bring peace but a sword for i have come to set a man against his father a daughter against her mother and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law and a man's enemy will be those of his own household he who loves father and mother more than me is not worthy of me and he who loves son and daughter more than me is not worthy of me and he who does not take his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me he who finds his life will lose it and he who loses his life for my sake will find it i think the key to all of what we just read is really once you fully understand those first few words that christ says because that's what really throws people when he says do not think that i've come to bring peace i did not come to bring peace but a sword a lot of people go wait a second he's the prince of peace and he's come to bring peace and this is confusing the key word here i think is the word earth he's not come to bring peace on earth we know that christ wants to bring peace to men individually but we have to understand that right there at the end of that it says i did not come to bring peace but a sword it's in connection with this sword talk now we know the word of god brings division when jesus come to speak he was the living word and that word that he brought to the political arena of his day was very much among the earth it was very divisional and so we have to remember it's been quoted already hebrews chapter 4 verse 12 where the word of god says for the word of god is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword piercing even to the division of soul and spirit into the joints and morals and the discerning of the thoughts and intents of the heart so the word of god brings division we even see right there in revelation 19 jesus coming back on a white horse and what does it say there in verse 15 it says now out of his mouth goes a sharp sword of with with she should strike the nations so the word of god brings division so christ does want to bring peace but oftentimes what happens is when the word of god is preached that individual as an individual we have to we have a responsibility to receive the truth of god's word when we receive that truth of god's word oftentimes it will bring division even among our own families even among our household our our mothers and our fathers and that's why christ is stating below that you know if you love your father or your mother more than you love me then you're not worthy of me so again what is being emphasized here is the truth of god's word christ wants to bring peace individually when we accept that truth when we accept salvation we have that inner peace but of course the word of god for sure brings division among this dreadful world it's a good answer absolutely we think about the great controversy you know there's a great deal of division because of satan and what he's brought to this world amen pastor james we're coming back to you this is from salvation and symbols and signs which is an incredible program if you have not checked it out we encourage you to watch it they've done the entire pastor james pastor ivor um of course our own jason bradley and yvonne shelton have done the entire books of revelation and daniel so on salvation symbols and signs daniel 105 pastor james mentions near the end talking about augustus and tiberius and then he says 1813-1814 what does that mean years he said augustus died in 1813 and tiberius rose in 1814. what does this mean this comes from mariano okay well mariano basically um i think there's been a little bit of a misunderstanding on that um phrase or terminology we're dealing with not 18 13 and 1814 but a.d 13 and ad 14. so this study that we're talking about here is based on luke chapter 3 and in luke chapter 3 we have kind of a timeline the whole bible is all of it is focused on christ and in luke chapter 2 christ is born under augustus caesar in luke chapter 3 he's baptized and that baptism event is actually historically dated for us it's the 15th year of tiberius caesar so tiberius caesar in a.d 13 became co-ruler with augustus caesar in a.d 14 when augustus passed to rest tiberius is soul ruler but his rulership begins in ad-13 15 years later you have a.d 27 and that is when jesus christ is baptized and when he's baptized he's anointed with the holy spirit that's what the word messiah or christ means to be anointed or the anointed one and so in the prophecy in daniel chapter 9 which is a take off on daniel chapter 8 14. we have christ being anointed 483 years that's a time for a day for a year prophecy 483 years after the decree of 457 to restore and rebuild jerusalem well in the new testament you actually have a date for his anointing it's the 15th year of tiberius season it begins in a.d 13 with this co-rulership with augustus caesar and it takes us to 80 27 and guess what when you walk back from 80 27 which is a biblical date for the biblical date for the baptism or the anointing of christ when you walk back 483 years guess where you come to shelly 457 bc so now we have a new testament verse we have new testament evidence for the establishment of the 23rd day prophecy beautiful that's powerful i like that shelley please explain ii peter 2 verse 4. this comes from david in maryland oh david okay ii peter 2 4 says if god did not spear the angels who sinned but cast them down to hell delivered them into chains of darkness to be reserved for judgment i'm going to add another verse to this because jude 6 kind of goes along this line jude writes the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home these he is kept in darkness bound with everlasting chains for judgment on that great day this is the day that god's executing his judgment in context both peter and jude are talking about false teachers and basically what they are pointing out is that god's judgments are inevitable if god did not forgive the angels he ain't going to forgive the sinners who don't repent so in revelation 12 we see that war broke out in heaven lucifer blasphemed god and he led this rebellion and a third of the angels joined him and what happened these angels who'd had these positions of authority and walked in the presence of god well guess what they all committed the unpardonable sin and god kicks them out of heaven the satan and his followers were hurled to the earth cast out of heaven now the word here for hell's the only use of it in the bible in the new testament this greek word but let me just tell you what it means that they were incarcerated symbolically they were in a place of death and darkness it's not literal incarceration for these angels because we know that angels are still very are these demons these fallen angels are very active among men so chains of darkness this is figurative language the angels can't they've been cut out from the presence of the lord in his life and these everlasting change of chains for judgment can't be escaped they've already been a sentence has been pronounced and it they're being reserved for the day of judgment when the sentence is executed and we find it in revelation 20 10 satan and his unholy angels are going to be finally executed cast into the lake of fire at the end of the age thank you shelley pastor ryan why do we use daniel but i think they mean the name daniel but refer to his friends by their babylonian names well you know i've wondered that same question me too actually many many years in fact i've actually stood up publicly in many of my evangelistic series and when i refer to daniel and his three friends i always use their hebrew names let's go to daniel chapter 1 verses 6 and 7 and this is what it says it says now it says now from among those of the sons of judah where daniel hananiah mishael and azariah to them the chief of the eunuchs gave names and this is the babylonian system giving them babylonian pagan names and of course he gave daniel the name beltachazar and to hana notice to hananiah shadrach to mishael meshach and to azariah abednego and so yeah oftentimes we hear uh so many people they'll refer you know you never hear anyone say well you know if you go over and read beltachazar uh beautishazar tells us we don't refer to daniel as beltasha's are we referred to him as as daniel and that's to the person's point who wrote this question i'm glad this person submitted this question because when we speak of the other three friends we often say you know shadrach meshach and abednego and the fiery furnace you know and truthfully we should try to try to get away from that i i have a theory as to why we do that a couple of reasons for one it just kind of rolls off the tongue you know shadrach meshach and abednego it just kind of just rolls right off the tongue right versus hananiah michelle and azariah doesn't roll off the tongue is easy and plus we've just heard it ever since we were children right i remember in in when i was a sunday keeper sunday school and even in sabbath school when i went uh you know just hearing people say again shadrach meshach and abednego but we should use their their uh their real hebrew names because those names have meanings for instance daniel means god is my judge yes and hananiah means yahweh has been gracious mishael means who is like the mighty one and of course azariah means yahweh has helped or will help and so all of these have great beautiful meanings when we get over to these other names given to them babylonian names it's all names pertaining to the babylonian false pagan gods the god of the sun and the god of the moon and all of these other pagan false gods so yes let's get into the practice of using the real names daniel hananiah mishael and azariah boy there's a sermon there brother oh man absolutely pastor james this is from rich in new jersey okay why do catholics still have christ on the cross while christians have an empty very good question being a catholic coming from catholic background this question means a lot to me so rich there are a couple of reasons um that we can look at here um that are specific now there may be more than this but there's two that are specific one of them is is that many protestants don't like the emphasis of christ on the cross because it de-emphasizes the resurrection of jesus christ and we serve a risen savior who's in the world today we believe that christ not only died but also resurrected and that cross that is empty reminds us of the resurrection the early church felt that the resurrection was really important we don't emphasize as much today perhaps as the early church did but paul really put a lot of weight on the resurrection of jesus christ in fact let's look in first corinthians chapter 15. this is a powerful chapter that emphasizes the resurrection of jesus christ paul says here beginning with verse 12 now if christ be preached that he rose from the dead how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead and if there be no resurrection of the dead verse 13 then christ has not risen and if christ be not risen then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain what paul what are you saying here that if there's no resurrection we're preaching for nothing and our faith is for nothing you see how much emphasis he's placing on this and so protestants think it's really important for us to emphasize an empty cross to emphasize an empty cross that symbolizes the resurrection of jesus christ now there is a second reason one which is probably more dear to us as seventh day evidence because we have such a strong emphasis on the ten commandments image worship is forbidden in the ten commandments of the bible now being raised a catholic i worshiped images i worshiped images of mary and images of jesus and images of saints and christ on the cross was an image of reverence and worship i was an altar boy that was part of my life as i grew up in london england and so for christians who are catholics who believe and follow the catholic faith this is not a problem but for those of us who are protestants this is a violation of the second commandment which by the way has been removed from catholic catechisms catholic teaching and the last commandment the tenth commandment has been split in two to make up the number to make sure there's still ten so this is a serious issue for us as protestants we do not believe in image worship we do not believe that it's right for us according to the commandments of god to be worshipping images of mary or jesus or the saints and christ on the cross is an image that can be worshipped and is worshipped at least it was in my home and in my uh experience because it's an image of christ and so that is the second reason so for these two reasons rich number one we just want to place a proper emphasis on the resurrection and emphasize that truth which means so much to us according to paul first corinthians 15 and then number two we're going to avoid making idol worship uh and the veneration of images by having christ on the cross thank you that's powerful shelley this is for you what does jesus mean in matthew 9 5 when he asks the question which is easier what is he asking okay i want to go to this story but the parallel account in mark chapter 2 because it gives us a little more information mark chapter 2 verse 5 the men bring a paralytic to jesus and jesus says to the paralyzed man son your sins are forgiven you and then some of the scribes who were sitting there and they started reasoning in their hearts and they said why does this man speak blasphemy like this who can forgive sins but god alone so the scribes were accusing jesus of blasphemy when he claimed the power to forgive sins and really jesus was putting himself in god's place because only god can forgive sins these words of jesus were a claim of divine authority he was claiming equality to god now in verse 8 mark 2 verse 8 it says immediately when jesus perceived in his spirit that they reasoned within themselves he said to them why do you reason about these things in your heart which is easier to say to the paralytic your sons or forgive you or to say arise take up your bed and walk but that you may know that the son of man has power on earth to forgive sins as god he said to the paralytic i say to you rice arise take up your bed go to your house which is easier is a rhetorical question it has an obvious answer forgiveness is a spiritual miracle from god healing is a physical miracle both can be accomplished by god and god only and if jesus couldn't do both then he couldn't do either so christ was proving his messianic power as god and you know what the scribe should have fallen down and worshiped him amen i've learned a lot just sitting here listening today to each one of you and we hope you have as well you all are excellent students of the word and teachers so thank you for that this is one of my favorite parts of the program because it's the bonus round we're going to toss out the questions and you all are welcome to jump in and whoever wants to answer or all of you answer this one says how many times did jesus go to heaven after his resurrection where is the other text besides acts 1 9-11 well i guess i'll jump in here and some if somebody wants to add to it they can um i guess it really depends on how you interpret particular scripture i'm going to go to john chapter 19 because when you get to excuse me john chapter 20. let's go to john chapter 20. this is in the aftermath of the resurrection of christ and jesus has that encounter with mary magdalene and so we find there in john chapter 19 particularly verse 17 mary has just realized that it's jesus talking to her and she kind of runs at him or launches herself at him like i suppose and notice what jesus says in john chapter 20 verse 17 jesus said to her do not claim to me for i have not yet ascended to my father but go to my brethren and say to them i am ascending to my father and your father and to my god and your god now that i just read the new king james version which says do not cling to me and if you read the king james version uh king james version uses the word and i'm reading it here uh it says do not touch me for i've not yet ascended to my father so depending on how you interpret that you can get some some would argue say oh no he didn't go to heaven until after after he had met the disciples but yet there's a possibility that jesus went to heaven after this event because notice how he says do not touch me do not cling to me but yet later on when he and that same very day he appears to the disciples in the closed room upstairs he allows he allows thomas to touch him so there are there are some very clear explanations that interpret these texts to say jesus would have went to heaven before his afternoon meeting or his evening night meeting with the disciples and then of course obviously at his ascension uh 40 days later and so if anybody wants to add to that so i i personally believe that it's very much a possibility that jesus would have went to heaven right after his meeting with mary magdalene and then came back that same day and then he had an evening or night meeting in which he allowed thomas to touch him but he wouldn't allow mary to touch him or to cling to him that very same day yeah in fact i would just affirm that take out the word possibility and just add the word surety because he's being partial if he's not going to let mary touch him but then he lets thomas touch him and he hangs out with all the others and don't hinder me that's another translation don't hinder me well what what in the world so then he's there for 40 days that would be impartial also because in acts chapter 1 verse 3 it says and he spent 40 days with the disciples so definitely john chapter 20 he's going to heaven i said possibly because i've heard people explain this text and they'll say well one says touch one says cling he said he said not to cling in other words not to hold on to me but he would have allowed her to touch him right these are people trying to try to twist the word of god there but i do agree with you i believe jesus very much did go to heaven that day and of course 40 days later so two times amen amen well done anything else you want to add no that's well covered we got time i think just a few seconds for one more question let's see if we can get it in in genesis 19 how does lot recognize the two men as angels were these the same men that appeared to abraham in chapter 18. if so where is the third one of them this comes from australia absolutely um yeah genesis chapter 18 well we see what's basically called a christophany here where actually jesus appears in the flesh as an individual it's very much i believe there's these two angels and jesus speaking to abraham in genesis 19 but then of course jesus sends on the two angels to sodom and gomorrah and he hangs back and he has this conversation with abraham you know that the 50 and the 40 if there's 10 people or will you save him he says even if there's 10 i'll save sodom and gomorrah but then when you get to chapter 19 i believe there's some clear scriptures here that indicate that once they came out of the city prior to the fire and brimstone coming down there's very much a possibility that uh this very much could have been jesus and the angels based on a text here notice uh john chapter excuse me genesis chapter 19 and i'm going to read verse 24. it says then lord the lord rained brimstone and fire on sodom and gomorrah from the lord out of heaven notice it's almost like there's a there's a presence here the lord's here and the lord's there but he's reigning fire brimstone we know the angels two men were angels because he just understood them to be angels but there's an indication here that even jesus was still there outside of the city as he called for fire and brimstone to come down out of heaven so that would have been in the aftermath of uh of sodom and gomorrah a few seconds something well just to say that uh lot didn't know that the angels that went went to him were angels until they manifested themselves as angels right some have entertained strangers unawares hebrews says and lot was one of those people thanks beautiful we thank you so much for turning in your questions we love to take your questions here at 3bn and to answer them on 3b and today bible q a so what we're going to do right now is give you one more opportunity so that you can jot down those questions and send them in to us and we'll be right back if you're enjoying our 3abn bible q a then tell your friends each monday we'll bring you a fresh program answering the bible questions you send moments left at the end of the program i want to give each one of you an opportunity for final thoughts we'll start with you pastor james well i love this my first program you all know that i love this program i love questions and answers one of the things that really hit me as i was listening because you know these guys went first which really helped me too was we have such a variety of approaches to the scriptures and to the way we answer scriptures a number of the questions that you guys answered i wouldn't have approached it that way but i was so blessed by the approach and by the thoughts you were bringing out i just thought you know the word of god is so beautiful in that way that you can have different personalities approaching from different angles and coming up with insights that can really be a blessing amen amen yeah so jesus says in john 14 verse 6 i am the way the truth and the life and it's interesting because three times john 14 15 and 16 he refers to the spirit as the spirit of truth and back to that question regarding the blasphemy of the holy spirit you know when we reject truth that is the truth of god's word we are ultimately rejecting christ and our conscience is slowly becoming seared and sealed by deceiving spirits of course i'm referencing first timothy 4 verses 1 and 2. so we got to make sure that our conscience doesn't become seared with the devil's deceptions but be intact with the holy spirit's guidance amen i just want to remind you that we cannot substitute human authority for the authority of christ only god can forgive sin and micah 7 18 says who is a god like you pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of his heritage you will cast all of our sins into the steps of the sea amen what a promise that's beautiful i love what you shared pastor james because i like that about bible q a because we get to learn from each other what a gift that is thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of the word and your knowledge of jesus and we thank you for joining us we'll see you next monday [Music] you
