Worship Service - September 12, 2021

weekend i went down to big city of brunson south carolina preached at the jackson branch missionary baptist church friend of mine is celebrating his third anniversary and i hope the ministry of apology but also a commendation i thought that i was to be down there this sunday but i recorded it in my calendar wrong and i thank god for reverend weston coming through at the ninth hour i even shared the information incorrectly with reverend wilson and i thank god for our ministerial staff being in hand to serve god's people at a moment's notice and i thank god for the woman of god is going to preach this morning and i gave her the simple instruction that i give any preacher that comes to our poop and she's prepared i told her i said you better preach and i believe god's going to do just that just as he did last sunday i'm checking on river west and i had to tell her you know walmart's strange place i don't know how many i paid attention to that sermon last sunday but if you're going to walmart you're bound to have some strange things happening and it's always good to have a song on your heart people are people are different in walmart but it's the low price leader you gotta but i thank god for everything that's been in place i thank god because i was i was thinking about the conversation that i have in the buildings week before last when they said that they were going to make a contribution how many of you saw the work that's going on as you drove down the driveway this morning we're already clearing land god is just doing a great thing get yourselves in here's what you should shout about as as as the crews are working we already got them paid we ain't got to worry about where the money is coming from this project has already been timeless to god be the glory for the great things that he has done here's another reason we can thank god because we got a contribution from the belton family of 500 while we were having service suddenly before last my cell phone went off and i got a message saying be home the last week in october somebody that watches us online because they live out of town and said i'm pledging fifteen hundred dollars you can't tell me what god can't do i'm gonna tell you i know y'all city folks there's an old saying in the country it says you can't beat god in no matter how hard i'm crazy enough to believe that god will do exactly what he says in his word where he says if you ask you shall receive if you seek you shall knock yeah if you ask me shall receive seek you shall [Music] you shall receive y'all pray for your preaching but we're asking for prayers as well homegoing services we've been dealing with sickness in this season and i'm praying that god will heal our house we have a number of sick members and um i'm just asking for prayers we've had two that have transitioned in the span of about 10 days where we had an ongoing service for brother drayton fleming here this past tuesday month or thursday thursday or month and on this coming tuesday brother roger carter his homegoing service will be at 11 o'clock the jp holly funeral home will have the commitment of the burial and the repass here asking for prayers for your family one of the things that was heartbreaking is that while we were ministering to brother carter while he was out he kept saying he's like grant i can't wait to see the sanctuaries that i've been hearing about all the great things that have been going on at the church the renovation has been made he said i can't wait to get there and i hate that that light did not afford the opportunity for him to see the adjustments that we've made but i believe that god has given him a much better view of a much more abiding sanctuary because if y'all might not know this but for everything that we might do in this structure for anything that we might do on the grounds one day all of that will be left to waste away but the bible says that we have an eternal home in the heavens that's made by god and it's it's an eternal place the bible says that that moth can't corrupt it a thief can't steal from it i'm grateful for a home like that so i'm asking that you pray for the carter family we've got some members in the hospital as well brother herbert randolph is in the hospital deacon thompson is in the hospital so we're asking asking for your prayers for those who are in nursing facilities for the brown kind of touched on it already be prayerful one for another sister laverne is ill as well y'all just keep one another in prayer i've been making my rounds on the phone calls if y'all know somebody else that i need to call send me a phone number that while i'm traveling to work or have a minute on my break that i'll reach out and touch base with them but y'all pray much for one another uh at this time we're going to turn things into the hands of our choir under the direction of brother garner the fire has been singing so beautifully this morning usually on sunday mornings out when the youth buyers fire singing i asked them what they wear they they told me they were wearing the burgundy shirts this morning i didn't know which burgundy shirt but i thank god that they're here in place this morning ready to sing to god glory yeah i'm talking about your blood to god be the glory as they sing after the choir sings their final note the next voice that you will hear will be that [Music] praise the lord everybody we sure want to acknowledge these youth this morning and i don't know about you but i know that there's a war raging and before i say anything else i want to acknowledge one thing while i'm standing here i'm sure all of you at home have been watching tv last week in charlotte north carolina there was a three-year-old that laid sleep in his bed at night there were two vehicles that came by the house and shot up 80 rounds killed the three-year-old wanted a four-year-old so if we don't realize right now that this means war [Music] i want everybody that knows a child to take time to sow a seed because the streets are taking our children it's a war and we have a responsibility as believers whenever the opportunity presents itself to take a child out of hand and tell them that there's a better way the bible tells us in jeremiah 29 that he has a plan a plan for their life of good and not of evil for a hope and an expected end so we do as believers have a responsibility to fight for our children amen let us pray you tell god our father we thank you now god for your presence we thank you god for it we know that you are the lifter of our heads we know god that there is nothing impossible that you can do we come at this very moment god to acknowledge you to welcome you to say that you are highly lifted up above the heavens we ask god that when your name is called that your power would fall and it is in jesus name that we do pray in every born bought believer said amen first given honor to god who is truly and always will be the head of my life i'd like to take this time to honor the son of god who is jesus our redeemer the holy spirit who is our comforter and our god i'd like to acknowledge pastor caters my mother-in-law evangelist wilson evangelist jones reverend weston minister thompson into our deacon's ministry to our trustees ministry i greet you in the name of jesus our scripture reading has been read if you have your bibles and you're able to stand i would ask for you to please stand for the reading of god's word the bible says i lift up my eyes to see the mountains where does my help come from my help comes from the lord the maker of heaven and earth he will not let your foot slip he who watches over you will not slumber indeed he watches over israel will never slumber nor sleep the lord watches over you the lord is your shade at your right hand and the son will not harm you nor the moon by night the lord will keep you from all harm he will watch over you [Music] your life the lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore you may be i like to address this scripture by saying just look up amen this particular song is one that was sung while the israelites were making their journey into jerusalem and i don't know how many of you aware but jerusalem sits on a hill this was a song that was sung while they entered into the city now these israelites didn't have the accommodations that we have now to ride in nice cars every place that they traveled they went by foot in the hills in the valleys but keeping their eyes lifted towards heaven it is why we too as believers must continue to look to the hills from which cometh our hell and know that all our help comes from the lord who created heaven and earth understand that the lord is in control of every circumstance and situation even right now in the pandemic no matter what sickness we may come into the lord is able to keep us to protect us to heal us to deliver us god will watch over his people like a watchman god's watchful eyes always open looking with love and care upon his people because the bible declares that he cares for us we are to cast all our cares for god is a burden bearer and a heavy low sheriff first corinthians 16 and 13 says be on guard stand firm in the faith be courageous strong in everything that you do and know that god is with you because his word says that he would never leave us or forsake us he is the way under the way through god can do anything but fail when your world turns dark and your journey turns rugged what is your source of confidence sense of god do you keep your eyes on the world or do you do as it says in the psalms lift your head towards heaven our help comes from the lord who is the creator of the creation he is the god who keeps and helps god is just as present in the journey as he is in the destination speak of the pandemic god has provided he has blessed and he has kept even in the midst of a pandemic you know i know today is you sunday so i asked the lord to allow me to be able to speak to a young person to see what it is that they feel and what they're going through because a lot of times we don't think young people have struggles a lot of times we don't think young people have issues but i beg the difference because when i sat down and talked to my 17 year old granddaughter and asked her what are some of the oppositions that you along with some of your peers have faced during this pandemic when she told me it sent chills through my body but i had to assure her just like i do every other young person because we don't want to we don't want to lose a generation of young people i told her this caleb i don't know what the future holds but because i know who holds the future i want you to do the same thing that your grandmother is doing keeping my eyes lifted toward heaven realizing that all my health comes from the lord but when she told me about what the generation of her age was going through she acknowledged something to me she said grandma they talk about suicide i said what they talk about suicide i said so what do you say when you have that conversation with your peers do you tell them about jesus and all that he's done and all that he will continue to do see we have to realize that because they're young in their youth does not mean that they don't go through the same emotions that we do they face the same thing that we do day after day their age has nothing to do with it because if you want to tell the truth about it they face some things that we probably will never face i know for a lot of us sitting here today we never knew nothing about being in a pandemic this wasn't isolated to one area this affected the whole world so god has a way of grabbing our attention but at the same time letting us know that he's a keeper he's a healer he's a deliverer he don't fail his word is true his word and go forth to do that what it has been accomplished to do because the word of god will not return unto us lord so this journey this journey that the israelites the jews will come from all over to make their way into jerusalem it was for the feast sometimes called passover but during the time that they went through the hills and the valleys and in walking through rugged territory they never forgot that god almighty was right there with him so i say to you today don't become distracted don't stop praying keep the faith and hold on this too shall pass god is able if we just believe don't forget what the bible says if my people who are god's people we are the believers if we pray seek his face will hear us from heaven and heal our land god has promised us that he would not leave us god has promised us that he would not forsake us god has promised us that he would be with us until the ends of the earth we have to remain encouraged and not discouraged the bible's here says he will not let your foot slip he watches over you with no slumber how many people know god ain't sleep god ain't sleep people the pandemic was coming before a cave god is not asleep he's aware of everything you know why because he's an all-knowing guy and he can be in the same place at the same time god is able to be at my house your house and the people house down the street because he possesses that kind of power but saints don't forget that same power work is within us and we have to use it the bible said he gave us power to tread upon serpents and over all the powers of the enemy and nothing by any means shall hurt us what do we believe do we believe the report of the lord do we believe what the lord saying or are we going to continue to be discouraged we got to stay in courage and you do that by staying in the word of god indeed god watches over us i believe some people sitting in here today can testify to how god how good god is we need to tell the lord thank you for help for strength to keep going to keep moving and just like you watched over the israelites he watches over us because we too are god's people nothing has changed about what god does or who he is lord watches over us by the shade of his right hand and the sun will not harm us now like i said when they were going through these different valleys and hills and walking over rocks and they didn't have the luxury of driving cars they walked everywhere they went but even in that even by the day the lord did not allow any harm to come to them he protected them in the daytime as well as the nighttime the lord says david dweller in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty what do you believe i believe the word of god is true and we continue to send his word forward because his it is the anointing that makes it different it breaks every yoke of evil bondage god is able the lord will keep you from all harm he watches over our life both day and night the lord will watch over your coming and you're going both now and forever this is a promise from god god cannot go back on his word if he said he means it and it shall come to pass so we are blessed and highly favored protected shield from the things that go on in darkness but we must continue to pray and fight the good fight of faith knowing that god is able trust me saints when we are in our lowest point god is still there the evils of this world may come and afflict the children of god but stay encouraged the lord will preserve you he keeps us from sin he keeps us from being puffed up and in pride the soul is kept in love by god the word preserves is noted in three scriptures that the lord will preserve our going and our coming i believe today even as we're sitting in this sanctuary that matthew 7 and 7 reminds us and it shall be unto you seek and you will find not and the door will be opened unto you isaiah 41 and 10 reminds us fear not i am with you be not dismayed for i am your god let the word be a constant reminder that the lord our god who takes hold of your right hand and says to you do not fear i will help you anybody know god is able so do not fear for i am with you god says the earth is the law and the fullness thereof that means everything that goes with it the world and they that dwell therein exodus 15 and 2 reminds us the lord is our strength he is our son he has given us victory we have victory in jesus name proverbs 3 and 5 6 reminds us trust in the lord lean not upon my own understanding in all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct our past joshua 1 9 be strong and courageous do not be afraid do not be discouraged for the lord your god who's god talk to me i know we got a mask but i need to hear you old preacher told me one time when there's praying in the pew there's power in the pool those who hope in the lord will renew their strength they will soar on wings like eagles they will run and not grow rarely they will walk and not faint psalms 46 and 13 is a reminder god is our refuge and strength a very present health and trouble therefore we will fear we will fear though the earth give away and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea thou though it's water roar and foam in the mountains quick which surgery the lord is still able to take care of us the lord our god is able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than we can ask or ever think but sense of god we have to invite god in we got to make wrong form when we lift our eyes towards heaven we got to stay right there we can't look to to the to the left and the right we got to look straight up keep your eyes focused on jesus i remember pastor kevin said he was going to so that we can keep in our mind what jesus did and he didn't do it for one of us he did it for all of us he came into the world to save the world the lord is able and he is worthy he's worthy to be praised be sure not to give in to worry or fear or despair but look to him who is god we can find strength and look forward to wonderful things staying connected to god he gives us hope when we are hopeless he gives us joy when we have sorrow he gives us peace when there is turmoil he can deliver us out of the hands of bondage remember that the savior of israel do not be afraid he said he called us by name he said we are he is when you go through the deep waters in great trouble i will be with you when you go through rivers of difficulty you will not drown when you walk through the fire of oppression you will not be burned up come here back [Applause] we will serve the lord we know [Music] i realized how joseph went from the pitch to the powers god is able to do anything anything is possible you will not be left alone because he's always with us we thank god for being a present hell in a time of trouble and he will keep us as long as we want to be kept because there's no love greater than the love that our father has for us god bless you and may heaven continue to smile upon amen [Music] at this time there might be someone in our sanctuary or even done what the lord [Music] [Music] we're gonna back up we had a candidate for baptism this morning how many people know that angels in heaven are rejoicing [Music] [Music] and join pastor katie yes [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] now [Music] we're living in a town where she started our best in saying that we need to be watchful over one another and this is part of the service and i tell everyone that comes this is just between me and them i don't care how many people are watching the minister within [Music] especially the narrative that's being perpetuated regarding black men when i was in seminary and we were reading and learning about when jesus washed his disciples i was taught that a male pastor should not wash the feet of women [Music] but i'm called to serve them he said i need to be mindful for an unmarried man like brother myers he said you want you be watchful with that how can i serve them with qualifiers attached to it not to negate anything that i've learned in the in the institutions that i've studied at but to me service don't work like that if i would be a minister a leader to somebody that i care about i don't put qualifiers right at times we're going to learn how to minister we're going to learn how to receive ministry without having strengths attached to how to love somebody just for who they are for well knowing all the things that they go through because that's the other part of ministry is that oftentimes when people are going through struggles and all of us are going through you're not going to realize this but all of us going through the exact same struggle it happened for about the last 20 months [Music] and some people don't realize [Music] for the word of god [Music] me [Music] [Music] me [Music] uh [Music] please [Music] [Music] [Music] okay can i go off spirit for just a second just a second i hear the lord speaking anybody else feel the need to take communion this morning can i serve you stay right where you are slide your hand [Music] [Music] thank you lord thank you [Music] thank you yes [Music] [Music] he's been so good [Music] good [Music] [Music] it's so good [Music] [Music] thank you can i tell you why i think [Music] [Music] says two before we do this special thank you to the deaconess for all that you do in making all of this possible you all know this communion story together and i was explaining to brother myers that the word commune means to have fellowship with compound common union to the fellowship to worship together and this is a sign but jesus says often as you do this you do this in remembrance of me brother wilson touched on it sometimes we get so distracted in church about programs and agendas that we forget the central thematic message of the cross that's why i want to light that yeah all the projects we're going to do our simplest project might cost us thirty dollars we're gonna put a light on that cross just to be reminded of why it is we do what we do if you have your bread put in your head the bible says he said this is my body which is broken for you i was just into the company this is the new testament in my blood this journey comes again keep those until you're on your way out the others were not prepared for this i just heard the lord [Music] he's already already worked as much as we appreciate brother jameson being able to play the drums at some point he will slide right back and have him serve the way that god has gifted him but god bless you for all you do for the ministry and i pray that god will be with you as you you go forward in your walk now it's an important time we need young black men young men in general to serve in the house for him speaking to your heart in a time like this we say god bless you for being into the spirit may keep you and may heaven forever smile upon you new thing that we do here at the church we want to minister as best we can we've got a certificate already framed for you it's a tipping of the baptism that certifies that joshua myers was baptized in the name of the father son the holy spirit on the 12th day of september 2021 zion benevolent baptist church is a west signature the scripture says romans chapter 3 romans chapter 6 excuse me verse three and four says know ye not that so many of us were baptizing jesus christ and baptized into his death therefore we are buried with him by baptism unto death that like as christ was raised up on the dead by the glory father even so we should walk in the newness of life god bless you in addition to that don't just have a certificate for you personalized by before we yeah we want you to [Music] be reminded that everything that we do centers around the word of god we wanted to pour that into your life may god bless you may heaven forever
