Spring of Hope Morning Worship Celebration

let me shift here and i just want to talk a little bit about silence silence my sisters and brothers has many dimensions there is a sacred silence which is that silence out of which creative contemplation grows it's a meditation on the word and the will of god it's the silence out of which we meditate and get closer to god it's the silence in which fervent prayer is born there is a sacred silence but then there's a seething silence that comes when you are quiet externally but you've got a storm going on on the inside the late dr howard thurman called that a noisy quietness but then finally and here's the silence i want to get to there is a sinful silence and adam's silence falls into this category because a sinful silence is a silence that comes over you when you ought to say something but you don't say nothing at all it is that silence that creeps in when you ought to speak up for god but you sit there acting like you don't know what god said my sisters and brothers i fear that adam was not only silent on that faithful day in the garden when a serpent showed up but adam has remained silent through the centuries when africans were captured and taken from their homeland packed in the hulls of ships sold on auction blocks beat and killed and misused and kept in shadow slavery adam was silent when jews were persecuted deported and murdered by nazis adam was silent when native americans were slaughtered in the acts of genocide so their land could be taken from them adam was silent when our ancestors were lynched and called boy and girl even though they were full grown when they were denied employment and equal access to resources adam was silent and today far too often when our boys are shooting and killing each other on the streets and our girls suffer from low self-esteem and give birth to children whose daddies won't stay around to take care of them adam is still silent sisters and brothers there is a sinful silence among us when injustice is raging and we remain quiet when people are aching when people are hurting when babies are crying and dying of hunger and not having enough love from insufficient care and we remain silent that is a sinful silence when the church looks and sees what's going on in its communities and not just in its communities but what's going on right there in the household of faith and we sit there and act like we don't know what's going on that is a sinful silence and let me suggest that there's a time when silence is sinful and here in the text we see a snake talking to adam's wife adam remains silent adam should have said something my sisters and brothers the nation is waiting for somebody to say something don't touch your neighbor and tell them you ought to say something you see them boys on the corner you ought to say something you see what's happening with those sisters i'm not talking about pookie and ray ray them i'm talking about the saints children y'all ain't gonna help me in here today you ought to say something ah the classroom is waiting for somebody to say something youth violence is waiting for somebody to say something every community every city every town every home every boy every girl every family is waiting for the church to break the silence and if we don't break the silence let me tell you what's going to happen if we don't break the silence we end up embracing the appeals of the serpent uh what are the appeals of this good morning and welcome to the sprinkle hope church of god in christ we're all standing for our invocation this morning praise the deliver somebody oh god hallelujah reconcile marriages oh god hallelujah have your way in this place today oh god have your way in this place today oh god touch each and every heart oh god hallelujah touch each and every mind o god as a matter of fact oh god we ask that you regulate the mind today hallelujah healed from mental diseases hallelujah thank you to jesus hallelujah every mental disorder hallelujah thank you god we're calling for you to correct today oh god hallelujah instruct today oh god hallelujah heal the body the sick body oh god hallelujah healed from cancer hallelujah high blood pressure hallelujah thank you jesus give us leadership give us guidance on how to take better care of our bodies oh god in the name of jesus hallelujah we want to be well jesus we want to be whole heal our bodies oh god hallelujah physician healed us there we got the power thank you jesus from ohio hallelujah thank you jesus encourage us to do the right thing lord hallelujah we need your god we need your god we can't breathe without you we can't move without you we can't live without you hallelujah we need you to have your way god sweet jesus reign on us hallelujah reign in this place want to worship the lord in our giving today the old saints used to sing that song you can't be god-given no matter how you try [Music] amen god just keeps pouring more in us giving more to us giving us more than we can stand more than we can take more than we can ask more than we deserve as a matter of fact he's blessing me right now amen and so we give cheerfully we give unto a god that has been generous in giving to us giving to us what we don't even deserve and so we praise him on today and we continue to worship him even in our giving the bible declared will a man rob god wherein have you robbed me and tithe and in offering but prove me try me see will i not open up the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that you would not have room enough to receive and so we encourage you to give of your tithe a tenth of your increase god said if i bless you with a dollar bless my ministry with a dime if i bless you with ten dollars bless me with one if i bless you with a hundred bless me with ten and give me a sacrificial gift and offering and i declare unto you that god will bless your offering he will bless what you've given you may not necessarily see it in a monetary amen you god for being so amazing so amazingly so amazingly gracious so amazingly merciful now god as i stand before your people i pray that you would anoint these lips of clay give me what to say how to say touch the ears of your people and give them to hear what the spirit has to say unto the church that your word would not go out and come back void but it will accomplish everything that you will find the hand of the enemy right now satan the lord rebuke you the blood of jesus is against you let your word go forth with such clarity that your people may be edified you'll be glorified and the devil will be horrified in jesus name we pray thank god amen while you're standing i want to read two verses of scripture from the 12th chapter of the book of john verses 9 through 11. john 12 verses 9 through 11. now a great many of the jews knew that he was there and they came not for jesus sake only but that they might also see lazarus whom he had raged from the dead but the chief priests plotted to put lazarus to death also because on account of him many of the jews went away and believed in jesus i want to preach from this subject just repeat it with me before you take your seat and say neighbor there's been some evidence tampering it may be seated there's been some evidence temporary i want to praise god for each of you and we honor each of you in your respective places we honor our patriarch founding pastor bishop talbert swan the first i want to praise god for sister shonda being with us on today [Applause] under some very difficult circumstances she lost her beloved father and we continue to pray for her brother greg gabadon was a long time friend of our family and of this church he used to be our organist years ago a man and uh we're saddened by his loss and we want to continue to pray that god will strengthen his family amen amen there's been some evidence tampering my brothers and sisters our devotion to jesus has been a large part of the african-american experience and it didn't just start when we got here to america many people want us to believe that our experience with jesus started when our ancestors were enslaved in these divided states of america a man uh and and he was introduced on the plantation in the whitinized version of christianity that was designed to make us better tools of service but may i suggest to you that that is not the correct history amen because when you really do a study of christianity you'll find that the oldest traces of christianity go back to ethiopia in africa the oldest christian church in the world is the ethiopian coptic church and if you remember the story when um when the apostle was preaching and god told him to leave and go out into the desert and he got out there and he saw an ethiopian eunuch sitting in a chariot and asked him do you understand what you read he said how can i unless somebody explain it to me that ethiopian gave his life to christ and he went back to his hometown and spread the gospel there we didn't just get christianity in america come on here somebody so our devotion to jesus has always been a part of our experience throughout the african diaspora the black church in america has been and continues to be a powerful force in our community don't get it twisted don't let anybody fool you when people tell you that's why folk don't go to church no more y'all here in church ain't y'all why don't y'all scream so hear y'all in here [Applause] amen uh when they tell you that's why church is dead and dying and ain't doing nothing that's a lie still the most powerful independent institution in the black community remains the church amen but the question continues to come up we continue to question the propriety of us following jesus should we follow this jesus some suggest that he was a foreign deity forced upon our forefathers and mothers others suggest that worshiping jesus has been nothing more than a psychological narcotic to deaden the pain of our oppressed existence in a real sense what karl marx called the opiate of the people others contend that our forefathers worship of jesus was merely a mask for the expression of more ancient religious practices a cover for the practice of traditional african religions so how should we view that influence as we approach a new chapter in our history much is being said yet what you've heard may not necessarily be the truth for when we examine some of these perspectives about um our experience with christianity we must keep in mind that the best historical record of jesus's life is found in the bible one of the most frequently posed challenges is directed at the book and the question is asked is the bible even credible isn't it just a european book that has little to do with our people the answer to the questions are yes the bible is credible and no it isn't a european book that has nothing to do with our people you gotta understand that our people are referred to and appear on the stage of biblical history many times and i know this gets some folk upset and i get that i understand but sometimes the truth makes you upset man that's the reason why folks say the truth hurts because the only europeans you find in the bible are those romans that were oppressing and colonizing israel everybody else in there were african folk y'all ain't going to help me preaching here today there have been several works that have been done to chronicle these instances one notable biblical character was the poor of moses his midianite wife this means that sapporo's father jethro was a black man in the new testament there are characters and and though and and i'm trying to get you to understand that though we understand the propensity and most of them were black there there are verses of scripture that tried to highlight this particular fact amen somebody the most undeniable instance was lucius's comrade and antioch simeon who was called niger niger simply means black look at your neighbor and say what's up niger come on somebody it simply means black african nations and african people are quite prominent in biblical times and to say that the bible is the white man's holy book or to suggest that it is european in its origin or nature is simply not factual some ask isn't christianity a late arrival in africa i just answered that question it's not and when we look into our text when we go back a chapter before uh we get to chapter 12 john 11 contains the well-known story of the death and the resurrection of a man named lazarus after four days in the tomb lazarus is brought back to life by a simple command from jesus in front of many eyewitnesses and this episode is verified for us today by the church of lazarus or larnica where lazarus eventually ended up after being raised by jesus when archaeologists uncovered his sarcophagus on larnica over which the church now stands they found an inscription which is roughly translated lazarus bishop of larnica four days dead friend of jesus come on somebody after lazarus was raised john tells us that some of the eyewitnesses reported to the pharisees that what jesus had done and shortly thereafter a banquet was held with lazarus and jesus both being in attendance then we read something amazing the large crowd of the jews learned that lazarus was there and they came not for jesus's sake only but that they might also see lazarus you see when jesus does something for you that is miraculous that folk can't believe but they gonna come check it out for themselves amen somebody here they they you understand with when they heard the bad news of what happened to you don't think everybody coming to see your miracle is really there uh to celebrate your miracle they're just coming to see is it really true amen somebody is it really real huh uh yeah so they came to see whether lazarus was really raised from the dead but the chief priest started plotting and planning to put him back to death because the scripture says on account of lazarus being raised many of the jews were going away from judaism and believing in jesus now see when we work backwards we see that lazarus's resurrection had a strong apologetic effect on many of the jews but what about the hardcore crowd amazingly not only do the pharisees still want to kill jesus after his miraculous work but they plan to murder lazarus because he's now become a thorn in their side isn't it incredible how far heart and belief will go to suppress the truth amen somebody the truth can be all up in their face and they want to suppress the truth it doesn't matter that we saw with our own eyes that insurrectionists go to the capitol and act a fool up in here up in here they want to tell us that somehow they are patriots like we didn't see what we saw they want to suppress the truth that mentality remains today there's a push to suppress the truth the validity the overwhelming power of the gospel it really doesn't matter what the evidence suggests there are those who want to deny credibility of the word of god they want to tamper with the evidence yeah yeah yeah yeah you see evidence tampering is an act in which a person alters or conceals or falsifies or destroys evidence with the intent to interfere with the results of an investigation of you know all about that don't you yeah when you were younger getting into stuff you had no business getting into puffing and pass passing in mama's basement come on somebody and before she could complete her investigation got the ashtray out of that y'all y'all ain't gonna be real with me you you you you destroyed the evidence you you did some evidence tampering so that she could not complete her investigation so the question regarding this morning's investigation has been over and over again is the bible relevant for today and is there evidence that actually reveals god's true power and the answer i have comes from hebrews 4 and 12 it says for the word of god is quick and powerful sharper than any two-edged sword dividing even to the appearing sunder of soul and spirit and to the joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the hearts while the bible was completed approximately 1900 years ago its accuracy its relevance for today remains unchanged the bible is the sole objective source of all the revelation that god has given us about himself and about his plan for humanity the bible contains a great deal of information about the natural world that has been confirmed by scientific observations and research some of these passages are all throughout your bible i don't have time to go through all of them the bible story of god's redemptive plan for humanity unfolds and many different characters are vividly described and in those descriptions the bible provides a great deal of information about human behavior and tendencies our own day-to-day experience shows us that this information is more accurate and descriptive of the human condition than any psychology textbook many historical facts recorded in the bible have been confirmed by extra biblical sources historical research often shows a great deal of agreement between biblical accounts and extra biblical accounts of the same events however the bible is not a history book is not a psychology text it's not a scientific journal the bible is the description god gave us about who he is and his desires and his plans for us the most significant component of this revelation is the story of our separation from god by sin and god's provision for restoration of fellowship through the sacrifice of his son jesus christ on the cross our need for redemption does not change neither does god's desire to reconcile us back to him the bible contains a great deal of accurate and relevant information but the bible's most important message is redemption it is universal it is perpetually applicable to all of humanity god's word my brothers and sisters will never be outdated will never be superseded will never be improved upon cultures change laws change generations come and go but the word of god is as relevant today as it was when it was first written that not all of scripture applies explicitly to every situation but all scripture contains truth that we can and should apply to our lives today there was a contemporary christian group called for him and they had a song called i can't get past the evidence and the chorus of that song says i can't get past the evidence i can't get past the proof i can't get past the evidence it's impossible to do i can't get past the evidence i can't deny the truth i can't get past the evidence of you point to your neighbor and say neighbor you are the evidence they didn't catch it they didn't catch it they catch it find another neighbor and say neighbor oh oh neighbor you uh are the evidence here's a question what evidence are they talking about what evidence is there in the world that god is a forgiving god what evidence is there that god is a loving god whatever this is there that god is a merciful god what what whatever this is that turn to your neighbor and say neighbor i told you you are the evidence my brothers and my sisters we are god's evidence to the world that he is who he says he is that he does what he says he will do huh we were lost we were dead in our trespasses and sins but the holy spirit used the gospel of jesus christ to bring us into a right relationship with our heavenly father changed lives saved marriages restored joy hope renewed life revived we are the evidence that god is who god says he is we are the witnesses of christ we are exhibit a in the courtroom of spiritual reality that what god has done cannot be denied oh even though the enemy is trying to destroy the evidence it cannot be denied there are many businesses that have tried to destroy evidence in the middle of an investigation our own police department here has been trying to destroy evidence in the middle of an investigation they don't want the truth to get out and so their only recourse is to try to destroy the evidence but when we look at our text we got a similar situation it was a situation that was unbearable for the sadducees because they were sad you see yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah jesus had claimed to be the resurrection and the truth and to back up his words he called the man lazarus out of the tomb after he had been dead for days now now remember he raised the widow of nain's son but it happened in a short time they said uh he wasn't really dead he was just sleeping you remember he raised jairus's daughter went into the room he said talitha i say unto thee arise and she got up they said she wasn't really dead she was just in a coma so when mary and martha called for jesus and said jesus lazarus is sick jesus said he ain't sick enough jesus kept on shopping come on somebody he kept on watching the game kept on doing what he was doing and then he waited uh four long days they called and said jesus lazarus is dead jesus said he ain't dead enough he waited until after the funeral was over after they had already went to the repass come on here somebody i already went to the gravesite put the tomb up and then jesus comes up taking an uber and when jesus gets up to bethany uh and starts walking up to their house they meet him on the roadside they're upset with jesus because he should have came when he should have came but i told y'all last week that jesus is always late that's how you know he's black come on somebody yeah oh my my my my i'm so glad grandmamma told me he may not come when you want him but he's always on time and jesus comes walking up and and and and and and mary uh comes running up to him and says if you had been here my brother wouldn't have died he said calm down girl huh you're gonna see your brother again i know in the last resurrection i am the resurrection and the life he that believe on me though he was dead yet shall he live oh my god jesus got up there and said show me where you laid him went to the tomb where lazarus had been for four days he was wrapped in grave clothes his body had already begun to decompose and to stink come on here and jesus prayed a prayer jesus said father i thank you because you hear me always but for these that stand by i don't have any doubt of what you can do but there are some naysayers around here there's some gangsters around here there's some doubters around here for these that stand by i need you to do a supernatural blessing how many in here need god just to do a fourth east blessing for these haters around me for these folk that are doubting my god for these folks who doubt that god can bring me out of this situation i need a party oh my my my my head jesus jesus mother clement said jesus spoke with authority and jesus said to lazarus ah lazarus come forth i imagine in my mind that lazarus was in glory oh my god walking on the streets of gold had just got the keys to his new mansion and then lazarus was hanging out with obadiah malachi zephaniah had got him oh my my my that he was up there hanging out with moses and joshua and the prophets and and he said listen i i understand everything y'all went through and all of the miracles god did in your life but i didn't come here to see y'all huh i where's jesus at come on somebody oh my my my my my head i'm not supposed to be here just yet i i i need to know why i'm dead in the first place and as he was there kicking it by the crystal sea come on somebody he heard a voice pierced through the recesses of time and space and call his name and laughter said hush hush somebody's calling my name oh my my my my the bible said that lazarus uh dressed up like a mummy have came forth y'all ain't gonna help me in here jesus said roll the stone away roll the stone away i came to tell you he's still rolling away stones somebody rolled the stone up to your situation there and thought it was dead thought it was over thought you would never come forth but jesus is still rolling stones away rolled the stone away and lazarus came uh walking out the grave and jesus said loose the man and let the man go you got to understand that here lazarus was a living testimony to the power of god he was evidence he was exhibit a in the court of public opinion that jesus was indeed the messiah whom people have been praying and looking for and so i came to tell you god will put the evidence on full display i said god will put the evidence on full display you see a living lazarus was the evidence that convinced people that this man named jesus was unlike any other man any other prophet any other priest any other king that the world had ever known and because lazarus was undeniably alive many jews were beginning to follow jesus and give ernest heed to the words that he spoke and my brothers and sisters just as lazarus was the evidence to the jews that jesus was who he claimed to be you and i as redeemed sons and daughters of god are to be the living evidence to the world today our changed lies are the evidence of god's grace when the blood of the lamb has redeemed us when our sins are washed away when the guilt and condemnation have been lifted in our lives there is a change that has taken place the lives that we live the words that we speak the deeds that we do the gifts that we give these are the evidence that are on full display before the entire world we can stand up and say the things i used to do my god i don't do no more huh the places i used to go i don't go no more huh when my body was diseased and racked in pain it is now the evidence of god's healing power you remember the man that was born blind now is like but jesus spit on the ground made some clay and healed his eyes is there anybody in the room today that can testify that god is a healer i can go around the sanctuary today one by one and tell you about the time that god has healed folker all the evidence that god is who he is is standing right here before me but my brothers and my sisters that not only will god put the evidence on full display but then the enemy will attempt to destroy the evidence i said the enemy will attempt to destroy the evidence you see a living lazarus was too much evidence for even the sadducees to deny that they couldn't deny that jesus was who he was and so they said what we've got to do is we've got to kill lazarus uh we got to tell folk that who they saw was just an impostor god bless his name that he was never really risen from the dead and that's what folk are trying to do with you they're trying to tell folk that your changed life ain't real they not really off drugs uh they're not really saved their life hasn't really changed they want to spread all the gossip they want to tell folk what you used to do oh bless his name but here's what i tell you my brothers and sisters whenever the enemy tries to remind you of your past just remind they want to destroy the evidence bless his name because they cannot deny what the lord has done in your life they cannot deny now the validity of the word of god they can't deny now the divinity of jesus christ they cannot deny now what the lord has done that's his name now i gotta leave you here [Applause] [Music] [Applause] when so you can stand strong in the midst of evidence tampering now in the midst of people we are chosen we are called we are appointed we are the church our lives are real our salvation is true the blood is right it is washes and cleans and makes us whole we thank you oh god for the washing of the blood we thank you oh god that there was no tampering with the evidence of the blood the blood is pure and we thank you o god and the blood is righteous and we thank you o god the enemy of our very soul believing in you that you can do exceeding abundantly above all we can act or think at this altar but god i feel in my spirit we should call out in the atmosphere our unsaved loved ones and our unsaved friends and family members heal them save them renew them bring them into the church bring them into the body of christ touch our lost husbands touch the lost wives touch the lost children bring in the prodigal son bring in the prodigal daughter in the name of jesus break the yoke of the enemy that is on the lines of these people in the name of jesus we call it god continue to restore her continue to renew her body from the crown of her head to the souls of her feet do it in the name of jesus touch sister shonda and her friend oh god touch her family touch them right now those that are mourning she's standing in the gap for her family members touch and renew in the name of jesus everybody who voiced the loss of brother gaberdeen at the altar god renew and restore her in the name of jesus touch us one by one and name according to your power according to your might and god we believe in it so and we will be careful to give your name all of the glory
