[Music] we're going to see pandas oh i've been wanting to see a real-life panda ever since i got my first stuffed toy what's his name stuffo uh you need your stuffed toy stuffo yeah and yes i still sleep with him and everything well get ready to see the real thing because we're heading out to count pandas in the bamboo forests of china pandas are super in danger and our mission is to help find out how many are left giant pandas that is just about the cutest animal i have ever seen he looks like he's about three or four months old he was just the size of a banana when he was born and she'll take care of him until he's about two years old hi little guy oh i just want to hug you he reminds me of my little stuffed toy that's it i'll call him stuffo in honor of your panda toy stuffo's a little tuffo well it's a good start to our survey one mother and baby panda in the northeast sector of the forest i've got to start on a panda power suit guys oh but wait what is the pandas creature power anyway [Music] ah the power of cute look mom's heading off let's follow them and try to see a panda power in action this is it aviva you're about to see panda power in action [Music] oh yeah the panda's thumb [Music] watch how the panda handles the stalk [Music] and look closely at the panda's paw [Music] well at least now i look a little like a panda oh make that a lot like a panda see count the fingers on her paw one two three four five six six that's right six that thumb that lets the pan to hold on to and handle the bamboo stalk so well actually isn't a thumb at all it's actually a wrist bone and in pandas it's gotten longer and evolved into a special thumb a panda's thumb which makes the masters handling bamboo wow that is super cool i'm putting that right in the suit five fingers plus a special panda's [Music] thumb all right big guy where are you headed now [Music] what is that mound something's under there of course panthers hide food they can't finish and save it for later it's called a cash and it can last under the cool earth for days until they're hungry again if only i could get just a piece of that for those cubs hmm well i do have panther power one of the greatest stealthiest creatures on earth now's my chance [Music] okay okay easy guys i told you you can't snack on the babysitter did someone say snack martin you made it oh yeah and i brought panther snacks tada yeah i brought food for the hungry cubs i am the panther provider the greatest hunter in the swamp [Music] ah you again no hang on that's for swan he ate it and he's still hungry crunch swat oh no oh mama panther she's back i can't believe it a rarely seen battle between a florida panther and an alligator gators will sometimes eat young panthers and panthers will sometimes eat young gators but standoffs like these usually end in a draw [Music] yes she did it she saved her cubs mama panther to the rescue and look she even came with dinner looks like our cub sitting job is over and here's our pick up found you bye bye crunch mission accomplished we found the rare florida panther awesome predator of the swamp and we even helped them out a little bit yeah mom's leg is looking a lot stronger look crunch and swat are so happy to have her back wow she's impressive the queen of her domain master of stealth i'm going to call her queen stealth and look camo has a sister and a brother [Music] nice eyes oh i love the tiger cubs have blue eyes before they turn like gold i'll call you baby blue and you'll be tackle oh these tiger cubs love to practice their tiger moves wow queen stealth must know what she's doing three healthy tiger cubs yep she rules the place totally in tune with nature you know what martin if anybody can help us get our creature sense back it's hard yes we have to tap into the tigers incredible awareness of the forest we need to move like a tiger quiet and controlled i'll check it out [Music] all senses firing nothing gets past her we need to use all our senses like a tiger [Music] that's weird she's sniffing but i don't smell a thing out here well tigers have a much better sense of smell than we do huh do you think she smells something well there's your answer a sandbar that sambar senses are firing too and he's on alert oh little does he know there's a tiger stalking nearby amazing her knowledge of the forest is incredible we need to think like a type and sometimes sit quietly and watch like a tiger with that awesome camouflage the tiger is able to wait until she's really close before she they're gone what happened i don't know bro but i know one thing that was an awesome lesson in creature sense no kidding chris look i bet she's heading back to the den come on [Music] gotta be the tiger [Music] martin did you hear that yeah there's a creature alert coming in from southern china it's yi and do you hi cokey we were out creature adventuring in the forest and found something strange an animal trap yeah it looks like some kind of trap we think someone's trying to catch our chow shinja josh what's that it's chinese for pangolins there are pangolins in china too yeah a different kind in fact there are eight species found in small areas around asia and africa but all are really rare and endangered that's why we want to help them right we better check it out we're on our way yi do yi [Music] they're here [Music] it's the wildcats quick this way lead us to it come on thanks aviva it's just up ahead oh no what there's something in the trap [Music] i don't believe it a chinese pangolin inner pup [Music] [Laughter] give them a sticky pangolin lick they're the ones that sent out the alert congratulations you are creature heroes [Music] it's the pangolin version of a piggyback ride a pinky back ride here wanna taste an artichoke you really look like one now hey that's what i'll call you artichoke doesn't taste good oh i guess you'll just stick to ants and termites then and check this out that is a serious tongue the pangolin's tongue is one of the longest in the creature world our tongue can only stick out a few centimeters but a pangolin tongue can go a half a meter [Music] oh that's my kind of pangolin a climber with a prehensile tail for grabbing onto branches does the amazingness of the pangolin ever end i've got to get back to that suit now okay we're gonna stay here we've got to try to figure out who set that trap and why hey bro what's up dude i'm back at the tortuga and look who followed me home [Music] we'll be right there bro you found a red panda well i didn't really find her she found me and then she followed me home are you sure that's a red panda yeah it's a lot smaller than a panda looks more like a raccoon or a fox or a weasel or a cat so what family of animals is a red panda most closely related to wait wait wait wait i think i know this i got it well aren't you gonna tell us nope you have to guess it'll be more fun that way okay fine well i'm going with bear just a small bear i'll say the red panda is most closely related to the giant panda because they both have panda in the name nope that's a trick giant pandas are in the bear family this girl is not a bear oh i know [Music] fox she's reddish orange like a fox and her face is kind of dog-like our red panda disagrees she is not in the dog family step aside jimmy i'm going with weasel a member of the musta lid family red panda totally fits in with a pine marten a badger and a ferret oh nice try there is a lot of variation in the mustelid family from weasels to wolverines to pine martens to otters but the red panda doesn't belong there what about raccoons and gingka jews and kawaties aha yes i win victory a little too quick on the celebrations bro scientists used to think the red pandas belonged to this family but not anymore oh what is she then yeah who's the red panda most closely related to yeah okay i'll show you a red panda yes a red panda is in its very own family it's in the family allura day it has its own special family made up of just one species the red panda wow awesome yeah it's a unique species in its own family and red pandas are not only special they are rare only ten thousand survive in the wild a new golden boomer has been born she is still very young and clinging to her mother's back i think she was born just days ago they are so rare and so endangered it is good news we can't leave madagascar now turn this turtle around i'm on it golden bamboo golden bamboo oh yeah oh yeah so rare and endangered oh yeah oh yeah yes [Music] they're here [Music] hey we made it got here as fast as our turtle ship can fly it's a lot of wild kratts so are they really golden bamboo lemurs yeah they're my favorite kind i can't believe you found a newborn golden bamboo lemur me too i can't wait to see her oh i can't wait to name her follow me there they are wow the golden bamboo lemur one of the rarest animals on the planet nobody even knew they existed till about 20 years ago really yeah and then a pair was found in 1986 it was the discovery of a new species and they only live here in a small area of mountain rainforest and there are only 1 000 living in the wild and now 1 0001 look a new golden bamboo lemur has been [Music] born name you gold puff well they are such a quiet lemur so secretive and that's why for the longest time no one even knew that they existed and check this out millions of years ago the continents looked a little different than they do today with lemur ancestors living almost all over the world they lived together with monkeys on the continent of africa but monkeys were smarter and more aggressive and may have out-competed them eventually some lemur ancestors made their way to the island of madagascar here the lemur ancestors were free from monkeys and other predators so they multiplied and evolved into the many different kinds of lemurs on madagascar today incoming calms from martin hey gang blue backpack here i found some asian elephants they live in maternal herds just like african elephants do the matriarch female her sisters and their babies this little girl is only one year old and really friendly ow hey please don't pinch the nose she's a sweetie hey notice anything different about that trunk uh it's attached to my face one finger yep that's right asian elephants have one trunk finger not two that's difference number one african elephants have two trunk fingers asian elephants have one but asian elephants can still pick up hold and pinch things just as well ah i think i'll name you fingertip yep fingertip it is okay chris here still after that creature pod hey but i think from this angle you can spot another difference see how smooth african elephants heads are and how big their ears are in fact your ears are kind of shaped like the map of africa really it matches that's cool so smooth and big ears for african elephants and bumpy head and smaller ears for asian elephants differences number two and three elephants flap their ears to keep cool so asian elephants really don't need big ears because it's a little bit cooler in these asian rainforests tell me about it it's hot on the african savannah those big built-in fans come in handy oh and we can't forget the size what's the difference there yep african elephants are bigger and heavier [Music] [Applause] hi slurpee and asian elephants are smaller and lighter yeah try that with an adult elephant uh maybe later got it so there's a size difference too but still elephants in general are the biggest land mammals on the planet whoa what surface check it out an otter has a special fold of skin like a sack under her arm where she stores things that she collects on her dives he should be up any second a sea otter dive is usually about a minute and a half but they can die five minutes if they want to i did it i don't like a sea otter way to go jimmy did you find anything that's just a rock so far it wasn't as cool as a creature power disc but coach seemed to like it [Music] she took my clam too sorry coach you're not getting that clam open my rock amazing that's the classic sea otter shellfish cracking method using a rock as a tool it's genius hey guys the disc is still down there martin's gonna find it first if you don't get back in the game hey put me down uh-oh coach easy i'm getting a little shaken up here coach she's not a shellfish well at least the emphasum held up okay aviva coming in for repairs the emphasab or cokie both i found it i found the sea otter power disc shocker yeah you kept diving well we checked out the otter's awesome tool use not to mention saving cokie guys fair is fair martin gets to activate sea otter power oh yeah this is gonna be awesome activate sea otter power oh yeah [Music] i feel built for the water oh warm coat paddle feet hydrodynamic body oh let's go for a swim coach what's she doing she's parking cork sea otters anchor their babies in kelp when they go off to look for food that way they don't drift away now that i have awesome sea otter swimming powers can we swim through the kelp forest by the proximity of the growls we must be only a few yards away fly cam is ready to start tagging [Music] uh not that i'm a scaredy cat but you sure you want to do this we have to tea devils are disappearing so quickly and the more we know about them the more we'll be able to help protect them from becoming extinct [Applause] maybe i am a scaredy cat oh it's a shadow there's the creature the tasmanian devil found nowhere else in the world but in tasmania what's so funny do you really think this is a good time for a tickle fight i'm not tickling you then who is whoa check out the feeding frenzy wow by the way they're munching you think that carcass was a world-class ice cream sundae to them it is scavengers have it made you find an animal that's already died then eat it and if you're gonna eat dead things at night those long whiskers on their face help them feel around in the dark it also helps to know when other cheat devils uh are too close we were too close he's defending his meals they're jockeying for position at the dinner tables all those snarls and the way he's standing tells the other guy i'm tougher than you so back off [Applause] that guy won the standoff and so he's the one who gets the prize oh do you hear that pound for bound t devils have the strongest jaws of any mammal tea devils can crunch through teeth bones almost anything oh if i were a tea devil i could chew a branch no problem ah problem in my mouth let's start tagging bro [Music] nice one chris all right tea devils nothing's gonna happen to you now that the wild kratts are on the job uh did we just set off the rhino alarm yep we set it off [Music] did you see that see it i felt it ouch no i mean the ox pickers hung on even when the rhino charges now that's the coolest thing i win okay you got me but what i don't get is who would want to mess with the third heaviest land mammal on the planet and take on that charge so that's who the rhino was going for we were just in the way they're after the calf [Music] amazing that's a 1300 kilogram mega mammal with some fancy footwork i've heard of cost salad but toss the lions incoming [Music] that horn is a serious weapon rhino defense is awesome oh no i just tuned it up i like it gives her character you know that made no sense black rhinos are solitary they'd never stamped in a huge herd it's unnatural are you okay oh look at that little nub of a horn you got i'm gonna call you nubs oh but there's no way your mom would leave you behind little buddy or not come charging towards the lost call something's very wrong here poachers i don't know but we're gonna find out let's track them uh-oh don't look now chris but someone's tracking us they know there's no mom to protect them we've got to get nubs out of here fast i think i'll stick around something about that rhino stampede just didn't seem right i got you nubs whoa cretera don't fail us now later lions what are you doing up there getting a bird's-eye view i'll take nubs to safety and be right back don't get distracted and forget about me oh don't worry i won't leave you hanging i lay eggs and then die i know it's just how life is for lots of insects yeah but she lived a super long life bro four months 4 800 kilometers maxilla saw more of the world than most people do yeah all that and she never made it back home hey what if she's not supposed to make it home yeah maybe he's supposed to keep the journey going yes nature's got know-how they lay eggs so the babies can continue the journey home martin chris i found danita i think she's killing all the butterflies it's not danita the butterflies are just doing their natural butterfly thing it's their life cycle but we've got to rescue them so they can lay eggs and keep that life cycle going and i've got a plan that might work do not die on me now i need living butterfly barrettes do you hear me living at least they're easier to catch now not as easy as you are what are you doing let me out of here you kept trying to net these monarchs now it's your turn but i still have the butterflies how are you going to get them like this [Music] go lay your eggs beautiful butterflies follow us we know of a great milkweed patch no no no get back here with my [Music] butterflies [Music] whose bad idea were butterfly barrettes anyway don't answer that ah the thing every monarch needs to lay its eggs a milkweed patch and when they hatch those milkweed eating caterpillars of yours will have a feast wow the life cycle of the migrating monarch is saved so let me get this straight guys the butterflies that live during the fall migrate 4 800 kilometers to mexico to escape the cold and when they get to their secret forest they hibernate then they wake up in the spring just as the milkweed is starting to grow back but they don't make it all the way home it's their sons and daughters who will finish the trip they lay eggs before they die that will hatch into caterpillars the caterpillar eats and eats forms of chrysalis and finally becomes a butterfly the sons and daughters of those original butterflies will continue the journey home that is one incredible life story the new generation of monarchs is here safe and sound and heading north [Music] [Laughter] uh oh she's teaching what fruit is good to eat green could make him sick but the yellow is ripe and ready to eat from the looks of them it's delicious cool orangutans teach their kids the knowledge of the forest yeah they have a knowledge of the plants fruits and trees they pass from generation to generation but i know something else dude nobody teaches them to eat with their mouths closed [Music] they sound kind of like you slurping breakfast cereal more like you sucking up soup huh where are you guys uh we were kind of thrown off course are you doing yoga nope we're stiffening up just hold up the first aid kit i'll teleport back here you're gonna teleport my head [Music] my fingers aren't working right wait we can't teleport living things cancel teleport forget it jimmy we're bringing the medicine kit to you [Music] is this the way back right on course huh uh chris we're running but not going anywhere huh uh oh his feet seem to be as strong as his hands interesting observation chris i think i'm gonna name him the big strong orange guy who won't let us get back to the tortuga might be a little long you think whoa uh we already believe orangutans are really strong you really don't have to show us again talk about being thrown off course he threw us back here again yeah now that's funny luck a real coincidence or did he do it on purpose even as babies they're strong it's so wild that a baby orangutan is strong enough to grab and hang when he is just six hours old when he's around a year old he's as strong as a grown-up human [Music] foreign
