Why I Left Gamestop After 11 Years | HR INVESTIGATION

everyone came a lot three three one here and it's finally time I've decided to finally make this video and go over the details on why I left Game Stop what happened basically that day and what led me to basically walk out the door and I'm actually kind of touched on this in a previous video before so if you have tenure at Gamestop you completely have a target on your back because you're making substantially more than what an entry-level store manager would make so if Game Stop can basically get you out the door they can get another manager in there for twenty thousand dollars a year less now let's say they do that in two thousand stores in one year right you think it starts to add up so so they apparently didn't think I was worth that anymore which I'm probably not they're probably right if you have any insight to this please comment below and tell me if the company you work for our company you know that a friend works for or something that has a policy that's kind of like that so the day started pretty much like any other day I woke up I was in bed I didn't want to get out of bed I contemplated jumping out of my second story window headfirst like everyone does in the morning but eventually I washed all the filth off from the previous night of terror and crippling depression the mosey on to the store opened the store got there around 8 o'clock in the morning made sure everything it was good to go everything is up to date schedules are up to date all the walls advertised everything's vacuumed we're good to go go sit in the back at the desk make sure we have a plan of action go over anything I need to go over just basically wait until the store you know opens so I opened the store and the day is going by like any other day dragging along questioning my existence having to refuse kids Grand Theft Auto five until their parents tell them it's okay because they've seen it on TV before and I'm like I don't think you understand you see a dude's sack man like you see so many things on Grahams thought oh I'm sorry you don't see this on TV like cable TV no no they didn't give a damn they're like it's fine it's fine let Jimmy take it home so we can see all the new dudes he can kill every homeless person he wants he can hatch it all the females he won't it's fine it's Granta thought it it's fine when I was seven I was doing that in real life so I guess it's better to just do it on a video game instead so around 11 a.m. hits and I look out in the parking lot and I noticed my district manager and the head of HR walking towards the building and then the ASM at the time was accompanying them now I've been through this rodeo before back in 2012 there was an HR investigation at the store I was managing at the time and the HR lady fired every single person in my store except for me and one part timer because they couldn't find anything on me because I was I'm by the book I've always been so by the book so when I saw them walking towards the door I knew I was like well this is it this sit she's coming to relieve me something's happened I have to no idea what's happened something's happen so they walk in ok can we borrow you for a second because that's what they always say hey can we borrow you you know because we're gonna bring you back eventually so we go in the back and I sit down with the head of HR and he tells me we've received some complaints we've received some a phone call with some disturbing complaints about you and I'm like oh ok here we go I'm gonna give you a little bit of backstory to this situation the ASM at the time used to joke with me every other day and she would say you better transfer you better transfer I'm gonna get you fired and she would just laugh it off you better transfer I'm gonna get you fired days are numbered in the back of my mind I totally knew she was serious but anyways apparently one of the associates in the store one of the part-time associates called our HR dedicated line and just told them so many crazy things I guess just to get them to the store you know because the previous store manager before I transferred in the previous store manager had gotten fired for the exact same complaints like they didn't even use a different complaint there's well he's doing the same thing the the associate that actually called HR had texted me three days prior calling me racist because I didn't give him any hours because if you had ever worked in gamestop as a part-time associate you don't get but like one day a month like three hours so he was really mad about that apparently so he he was actually the one that called HR on me I found out later and told HR that I was making people uncomfortable and inviting people that worked with me to my house for like sexual reasons and I laughed in the head of HR s face when he told me that I laughed so I was like are you serious have you seen the people working here they're all a bunch of butter golems you could just roll them all around like I'm sorry at least make as a complaint believable I mean I'm not gonna mess with these people I've worked with really attractive people in these GameStop's and didn't do anything ain't gonna happen I'm sorry it ain't gonna happen anyways so apparently the ASM at the time had told this part-timer after he was mad at me for no hours to call HR and basically told him what complaint to give which it did get HR to the store because they probably reviewed my salary at the time how much I was making annually and was like well we on our way because they don't play around with that stuff when you're when you have tenure they look for any reason so the head of HR tells me that I laugh in his face I'm obviously like no if there's no truth to that my DM like chuckled and was like okay yeah this is a little over the top even after a moment the HR manager kind of was like yeah that you know doesn't seem very realistic and no one cooperated the story only that one associate was saying this and no one else was saying it there was actually other associates interviewed and didn't say any place they were like no Co he's always been great Co he's great I'm great me he's always been top notch and I was always by the book so I figured I was gonna go back up to the front because okay we're done here well I want you to keep this in mind when we went from salary to hourly everyone was kind of confused on when we clock in when we clock out what's the guidelines because when you're on salary you could literally just do anything and it didn't matter you're on salary you could leave come back you could eat lunch no one cared it was fine well when you were on hourly they we were really strict on basically who how you've handled your timecard and our district manager word-for-word told us if we are in the store during the workday if we are in that store weird to be clocked in no exceptions now if we walk out of the store for any reason we have to clock out unless it's to go next door to get like a vacuum for that night or something to borrow something from another store and then come right back but any other reason you were not allowed to be clocked out while you're in the store working so the HR manager told me well we've been noticing some strange activity on your timecard and I like looked at my deal when I was like what so what do you mean I'm so diligent about that because of how they've been treating Tom cards because just in that year alone three other store managers got terminated for Tom card fraud for various reasons that were never elaborated on of course so the HR manager told me well we noticed that you've been coming in at 8 a.m. and I was like yeah but my DM told me that we have to be here at 8 a.m. now because we have to get to 44 hours to make our previous salary pay before we came off of salary so if we didn't come in at 8 a.m. we weren't making our our full pay anymore and you best damn believe I'm not about to be a store manager game so I'm making 1380 an hour because I'm not getting the overtime pay no no I would rather suck on a shotgun are you serious and I told him of course I get there at 8:00 because I was instructed to do so he said well yeah you can get here at 8:00 and I was like ok and he was like but we noticed that you would clock in and look around the store and then you would come to the back and sit at the desk and I was like well yeah I'm every store manager in the company does that know we sit at the desk make a plan I was told very clearly that if I'm in the store I'm to be clocked in and he told me that sitting at the desk constitutes a break so I'm not supposed to be clocked in which is the opposite of what I've been told every time that we've asked for details on how we handle our timecard now we've always been told to be clocked in the whole time unless we leave the store for any reason other than going to get a vacuum or something we were supposed to be clocked in well he tells me something completely different oh you're not not allowed to be clocked in if you're sitting at your desk now it's like um okay well I didn't know that my DM told me that I'm supposed to be clocked in if I'm in the store which my DM of course said no I didn't say it like that and I was like of course you couldn't of course she didn't he was sitting right beside me so of course he was like nod and say that he didn't want to get in trouble for it so so I was basically like well now I know but I mean can I get some clarification on something if you come into the store at 8 a.m. and there is nothing to be advertised there's nothing be set up there is literally nothing to do everything in the stores top notch there's literally nothing to do everything in the store is top-notch what do I do and he couldn't answer the question because I was told do what do everything you need to do and then basically wait for the doors to open and be clocked in but he's telling me that I can't sit at the desk and make a plan of action or do anything or look at schedules of doing I'm not allowed to say the desk the desk in the office because if you're in an office in any other profession ever you're clocked in but not there so he couldn't answer that question he couldn't tell me what I was supposed to be doing he just kept saying well you should find something to do like I'm just gonna rip the wall down I could be one of those little kids just shuffling the wall down and it's all falling down and raining on me like all my tears and just pick him back up and reoffer ties it like what are you supposed to do we supposed to in this situation so I was always told something different and he stands up and he's like okay well you know I need you to wrap this statement and I've course it's like okay so I wrote the statement and I was like you know this is what I was told this is what I did I didn't even barely mention the time card something I was talking about basically the the crazy allegations as I wasn't saying and I was like none of this happened there's no evidence has happened to get real basically come on get real and then I wrote was instructed that I'm not allowed to be clocked in at my desk when I was told otherwise by my superior Bar None I thought we were done there I was like okay we're done I need to go back to work because I need get my subs in my reserves so I don't get fired yeah say I need to get back up there and I need to do what I do I need to hit Circle up I gotta do all these things I'm so stressed out right now well then he tells me well I don't know if you're gonna be terminated for this so I'm need to call my superior this is what the HR manager said to me he needs to get on his phone and do a conference call with superiors to see if I'll be terminated for this now it's like terminated for what what do you mean he's like oh well for sitting at the desk and being clocked in I'm literally I was told that if I'm in the store have to be clocked in my district manager used the words if you were inside GameStop if you have come in the front door on a work shift you were to be clocked in that's what he told our entire district so everyone's doing it when I worked for Game Stop I would walk into stores to drop something off for another store and I'd walk in the back on the store manager would be sitting at his desk doing a schedule or something and he's not on a break he's just doing a schedule and the part-timer was up front working the register I mean you're the store manager and you're not allowed to sit in your desk so he said he had to call his superiors and right then I knew that he was gonna say I was terminated because I realized how long I'd been working for Gamestop I realized how much gamestop was paying me contrast to other managers now if I whip this is it because my ASM which basically orchestrated this entire thing is gonna come in at a store manager level making less than $12 an hour probably and I'm making you know sixteen fifty that's such a huge savings for gamestop and even at this time they were hurting you know hurting financially not compared to now but they were hurting financially back then as well so I knew exactly what he was gonna say when he came back so I actually just right there I was like that's not necessary man you don't have to call them I took my store keys off the key ring hand it to my district manager I'm done here I'm not gonna do this because I know how this works um this isn't my first rodeo they were trying to treat me like I was stupid like well we're gonna go see if your guess dude if you're if you're caught if you're considering terminating me at all for something that I was told to do especially something like sitting in a desk then yeah I'm just I'm out because I know what's gonna happen they were just looking for a reason to get rid of a tenured manager because they've been getting rid of tenured managers all over the company you hear about it every single day store manager for 18 years 15 years 11 years 12 years 10 years 9 years getting terminated every single day for the dumbest of reasons we had a store manager that same year get terminated because there was a Bowser collectable like that came out of a gumball it's like this big cost 25 cents or something and it was taped to the register because you know people like to flare up the store they just he taped it to the register and he was like he always like to pick it up and you know kind of throw it up and down throw it up and down you know to kind of make the day go by faster make you wanna die less and one of his shifts he actually you know started closing and you had that in his hand and he put it in his pocket and he left and he came back the next day and brought it back he was oh you know this was in my pocket so I put it back on the register and his ASM called the loss prevention line and said he stole something from the store and loss prevention showed up one day later and fired him because I saw him take that thing out of the store that cost 25 cents and then he brought it back and he had been working there 11 ëwhere from 11 to 14 years he'd been working at that store and they fired him for that because they were looking for a reason because that's what gamestop does so I shook my dm's hand and I walked out of the store I just smiled at my ASM because she knew she knew what was going on and she knew I knew so she just looked at me and smiled can grab my jacket I was like all right y'all bow see y'all later and my DM chased me out and he wanted to give me a hug for some reason I guess cuz we've known each other so long I don't know and I got my car and I drove home and I can't actually begin to express how amazing that Drive was I felt literally like a free person if that makes sense you know we're all technically free but like I felt like I was starting like I was actually starting my life at that point on that drive home like my life had just started and it was a really intoxicating feeling I called my friends and I was laughing and I was like guessable it dude I'm done I don't work for game so anymore and there were like no way they all thought I was lying because I've been working there so long and it was an amazing feeling and it's a shame that it took me that long and it took something like that happening for me to leave and it bums me out because I should have left a lot earlier than that but I guess it just felt safe people ask me all the time why did you stay so long if it was terrible I mean it didn't really get terrible until like 2013-14 ish 1415 like right around there it didn't get to start getting kind of bad until then and I don't know I guess it just felt safe just felt safe man I felt like I'm like a baby like a cuddly baby and I know I don't know I guess maybe I was institutionalized I was used it's like those people that like end up marrying like the people that assault them that was me I was married the GameStop so that's really something that I think you should think about if you're working for a company and you've been working for that company for a really long time and you really want to get out and but you just you just don't do it maybe you should just do it because I feel like you'll have that same intoxicating feeling that I had it was just so awesome and it was still awesome and I'm such a better person in my opinion I'm such a better person than I was when I was there and hopefully you agree hopefully you agree that I'm a better person than I was back then even though you didn't know me but you better agree an actual funny tidbit about this for just giggles I applied for unemployment after I had already accepted another job I applied for unemployment and I got a letter two or three days after I applied for unemployment and it said I was ineligible my termination reason from Gamestop was time card fraud and even though I had quit and walked out they still issued me as terminated for time card fraud because of course you know they're not gonna gamestop does not pay they do not pay unemployment I have a friend right now that was a store manager a couple years ago and is still in court right now battling them because they fired him for literally no reason they fired him for no reason and he had been working there for years and he filed for unemployment and they rejected it and they just said he was fired for time card fraud and he literally didn't do anything so he got in contact with gamestop corporate and was like what's going on they said I was fired for Tom card fraud but they actually didn't give me a reason they just said you know we just have to do this they couldn't give him a reason so he got a lawyer and he's been in courts battling with them for a while and they've actually offered him a settlement they've offered him a settlement which is them completely admitting guilt they admitted guilt but he's not taking the settlement he's going as hard as he can what she should he should GameStop does not want to treat customers right they do not want to treat their associates right they do not want to treat their leadership team right all they want to do is the top executives want to soak up whatever profits they can for a quarter or two and then they all leave that's it GameStop deserves to be gone it's just terrible and I know there's a lot of companies like that of course there's most of them are probably like that but luckily we can use our voice and we can vote with our
