Why Darth Vader REFUSED a New Suit From Palpatine

darth vader's suit was cumbersome uncomfortable and exceptionally painful it would often catch on his burned flesh and nag his very limbs or at least what remained of his limbs as he walked but the suit was necessary vader would struggle to even breathe if he were ever removed from his suit the suit was necessary for vader to achieve what he needed to as a sith lord the armor was created by palpatine himself as well as his greatest technicians using sith alchemy finding the very dark side of the force itself within vader's armor the armor encased vader completely creating a seal to protect his charred skin and lungs vader slowly learned to live with the isolation and anonymity that the suit imposed upon him vader had to change his lightsaber style to compensate for the weight bulk and inflexibility of his new armor the electronics of the suit were sensitive to electrical discharges though vader added a limited amount of insulation to the suit after discovering this this was in fact placed there by his very master palpatine to give vader an inherent weakness to force lightning despite the weaknesses imparted by the suit it also provided vader with a number of strengths this included greatly enhanced durability and stamina numerous sensory enhancements and a protection from extremely inhospitable environments and biological weaponry make no mistake though living within the suit was absolute agony exactly how palpatine had intended the suit was designed to cause darth vader immeasurable amounts of pain as vader had learned well as anakin skywalker pain was a path to the dark side and the intense agony that the suit caused vader opened up the channels clearly to the dark side and his connection to the dark side itself was amplified because of his constant pain vader's suit was purposefully flawed but in legend several years into the galactic civil war palpatine actually offered vader a brand new suit immediately following the battle of yavin palpatine was exceptionally disappointed in vader's as well as the death star's performance against the band of rebels as luke skywalker the rebel at the time palpatine and vader were unaware was the son of anakin skywalker had managed to single-handedly destroy the death star and beat vader in a space battle this caused great concern for palpatine who began to believe that vader potentially was not enough despite his former status as the chosen one and his immense skill in the dark side it was because of this that palpatine revealed a secret projectivator that he had been working on for decades that being a new suit a suit that would cause vader substantially less pain would still grant him superior strength as his original cybernetics and was far less cumbersome in fact the greatest upgrade of the brand new suit was increased mobility something that vader had been compensating for for years now learning and altering his lightsaber form completely to duel more acrobatic and quick combatants it also would have been technologically superior granting him more resistance against attacks in short if vader were actually granted this brand new suit he would have been unstoppable rivaling the power potentially of his master darth sidious he would have been an absolute threat to reckon with so why didn't he this is what it says about the darth vader 2.0 suit from legends continuity as of zero bby vader was given an opportunity to have a new suit built for him one that had already been designed this suit would have been far more advanced technologically superior and much more comfortable than his original however in order to be placed within this new suit vader would have had to have his prosthetics disconnected and his life support systems temporarily disabled since the process would have been considered far too risky and likely could result in his death the idea was unfortunately abandoned the new suit schematics designed by palpatine concerned vader on multiple levels in legends again vader does not ever leave his cybernetic suit it is what keeps him alive at all times and again this was changed for canon as we saw in rogue one in the back the tank however in legends if vader were ever disconnected from his life support system and his prosthetics removed the transfer to the new suit could have potentially killed him and even though this was not a certainty this was not something that vader was willing to risk simply for enhanced cybernetics potentially even more impactful though was the suit itself would have been less painful and although it may have made vader quicker and more of a technological terror he feared that it would not channel his dark side abilities as proficiently as his original suit vader again was well aware that the pain that the suit imparted upon him granted him intense power in the dark side the suit was a constant reminder of his physical injuries but even more important than this his mental scars the pain reminded him that he lost to an inferior combatant in his master obi-wan kenobi and failed to defeat the jedi master on the eve of his triumph and ascension as a dark lord of the sith a reminder that granted vader exponential more power in the dark side than if he had never had the suit at all darth vader was defined by his failures and it were his failures that gave him his strength the suit was more advanced but vader had learned to become a deadly combatant even with the more cumbersome and inferior suit and believed that the risks of a brand new suit far outweighed the benefits of one it is of my solemn opinion that darth vader's new suit would have actually turned out to be a hindrance to the dark lord and i think that the fact that we underestimate the constant pain that darth vader is in as one of his greatest weapons in the force the fact that darth vader is in constant mental physical and emotional turmoil is what makes him so deadly it is his suffering that makes him powerful and i do not think that the dark lord was willing to give this up simply to be a little bit quicker in the end i truly believe that if vader wearing the suit that he possesses now came into direct conflict with vader in an enhanced more comfortable but technologically superior suit the vader in the original suit would have the advantage because the vader in the original suit would possess the constant pain that he experiences every single day because of his failures and it is because of his failures that we know that darth vader is so powerful to begin with anyway my friends this is simply
