the first movie made more money than the guy who invented pants they can't just dust off one of the famous X-Men hey welcome back screen Crush I'm Ryan Ary and guess what the mcu's X-Men movie finally has a screenwriter Michael Lesley so Marvel has reportedly been hearing pitches for months before they decided on Leslie's so right who is that guy well recently Leslie scored a hit with The Hunger Games a song of song birds and snakes and he also adapted Michael fast Benders MCB Beth and the Assassin's Creed movie now we don't know when this new X-Men movie is coming out but speculation is that it will be phase seven after Avengers Secret Wars now that's very exciting news but I think it also highlights the mcu's huge mistake Marvel has squandered their most valuable superhero IP so I'm going to explain what I mean by that and a little later I'm going to tell you how I think the X-Men should have been introduced into the MCU but first let's go over everything we actually know about this new movie the X-men cameos we've seen in the MCU and how the heck we got to this point to begin with yeah I mean how come Marvel didn't make an X-Men movie all the way back in Phase One well because in the 1990s Marvel sold the film rights of the X-Men to Fox and fox would hold those rights as long as they kept on making X-Men movies so the MCU and the X-Men were actually completely different franchises even though they both came from the same Source material oh like how the Rock and John Cena wrestled together in the WWE but then they ran on to different movie franchises Yes actually and just like Cena and The Rock The X-Men in Marvel has slowly returned to the same franchise when Disney bought fox in 2019 now the fox X-Men movie were vital to the age of superhero Cinema they showed that main tier Marvel characters could actually carry a blockbuster film and they rebounded the sub genre after Batman and Robin made all superhero movies feel like they were just camp and the fox franchise also gave us big swings that elevated the genre like Logan and Deadpool that frankly we never would have gotten from the MCU why not well I mean everything in the MCU has a unified look and feel so in 2016 and 17 when they were in the middle of setting up Infinity war and endgame I don't think the Marvel Cinematic Universe would have released a comedy that spoofed Superhero conventions with this caller on my superpower is just unbridled cancer me a bow and arrow I'm basically Hawkeye or a movie that killed off a marquee star in the middle of their phase three so the fox movies were very important for their time but they were also a total mess like this was a franchise with no plan they were constantly throwing things up against the wall to see what would stick and that led to like messy timeline rewrites Rush CGI and frankly an over Reliance on Wolverine you see Fox's X-Men films had no Kevin feige type person to preside over the franchise so they were always laying the tracks down in front of themselves figuring it out as they went along in fact whenever they did try to tease something for a new movie like The Phoenix Saga they pooped the bed twice a double bedtime pooper oh dear they must have been drinking puddle water yeah man 20th Century Fox drank puddle water and they totally pooped the bed twice those were very dark times for us so when we talk about like the fox X-Men movies and the Alia for those movies I don't think that we have a lot of nostalgia for that franchise like we have for the MCU they made some very good movies and they made some very bad movies and frankly most of them were mid so when Disney announced their acquisition of fox in 2017 it was kind of Bittersweet on the one hand the calling of one of Hollywood's most venerable Studios was bad but seeing Wolverine fight the Hulk was good also that merger gave us X-Men 97 which I think is the greatest X-Men adaptation that's actually why we made these parody shirts to celebrate that show to remember it and the brave die first with melting claws you can find these shirts and more at our merch store we design all the merch ourselves we also have this lfg Deadpool and Wolverine is Burton Ernie X-Men Nighthawks and many many more including Fraser Beast shopping our merch store helps support our channel so we can make videos like this one for you guys so if you want the links for that are below thanks for watching and thanks for shopping so now back to Disney and fox just to clear up the timeline so they announced the merger in December 2017 so until that merger was technically finalized on March 20th 2019 Marvel Studios was not technically supposed to be developing any X-Men movies and at the time foge was tempering expectations saying that the studio had planned their franchise 10 years in advance and they didn't want to disrupt that plan just to bring in characters from the most popular comic book series of all time basically fogy was telling us the X-Men are coming but not for a while but since then we've seen the Marvel's plan for the Multiverse Saga was really more of a framework I mean they do have the overall Arc mapped out but they also allow for improvisation for artists to come along with fresh pitches sometimes something doesn't doesn't necessarily click with people like the Eternal so they don't make a sequel like for instance I doubt if like an Agatha show was always part of the plan but we loved Katherine Han and the character so she got green lit for her own series you know and now that we have some distance from it we can see the rough shape of Fig's original plan they Ed the time travel and endgame to set up the Multiverse and King the Conqueror while also planting seeds for the Young Avengers and apparently they want to make the entire Saga about slowly reassembling The Avengers for Secret Wars but now I think that since we can see the whole thing and with the benefit of hindsight that the Multiverse Saga really wasn't the best idea but but why not we we got the camear won't someone please think of the camear well for one thing the Multiverse Saga is very confusing we still for instance don't know the difference between a timeline and a universe and they hinged the entire Saga on one actor who was now like hit the streets like as Colton Ogburn said a few videos ago this has become more of a Nostalgia cycle the Multiverse is a way to bring in actors from other Studios and other franchises and then to see them in interact with the heroes of the MCU and don't get me wrong I desperately want to see Hugh Jackman fight the Hulk but like that's that's one fight that's not enough to Anchor a 10e cinematic Saga but more importantly was the Multiverse Saga really worth delaying the X-Men I mean sure the Saga was already in motion by the time the fox sale was finalized so like Marvel was already committed to projects that we saw in phase four like w division Loki shanqi Etc but the X-Men who again are the most popular character that Marvel owns the film rights to that movie could have come out in Phase 5 like right now but instead fig and Company decided to use the Multiverse Saga as a way to First say goodbye to that old Fox franchise I mean there's some cinemalu on the first X-Men film and I understand that Marvel would want to keep what works like Fraser Beast while recasting other characters who are aging out like Wolverine or Storm and The Nostalgia Saga does give us a chance to say goodbye to old characters like Patrick Stewart's Professor Xavier [Music] or to see team ups that we always wanted like Deadpool and Hugh Jackman Wolverine let's go and we also have the chance to redeem past movies like Amazing Spider-Man 2 are you okay did we really need a whole Saga for this I mean the thing is that the X-Men have already been introduced in the MCU first in Multiverse of Madness and then in the Marvels in other words the mcu's X-Men are just Fox's X-Men at least for now like as we keep saying on the Chann Channel I think that the Untitled Avengers movie is going to become Avengers versus X-men with the heroes of the MCU clashing with the mutants of the fox X-Men teams so then the Multiverse Saga is going to become a fitting in to the fox X-Men franchise and then after Avengers Secret Wars we're likely going to see a new universe that combines aspects of the fox X-Men universe and the MCU and I think this was a huge mistake I don't think that we needed to see mutant introduced as the fox version of the characters they should have just introduced the X-Men into the MCU following endgame it would have been less complicated and made frankly for a much better story that would have served these characters a lot better in know person I'm getting tired of this I'm tired of hearing you complain about the MCU all the time why why can't you just be positive you know what's going to happen now I'm going to quit that's right I quit and I'm going to go live in a farm somewhere and I'm going to raise a family and we're going to live inside of a brick and then we're just going to like live in peace all through the winter all czy until my youngest child gets sick with the flu but it's going to be moving day because the farmer has a tractor we have to move the brick but we can't move the sick child and so then I'm going to go talk to some super smart rats her knew my husband from an experiment and then and then we're going to like I'm going to use a magic amulet I'm going to move the house and I'm gonna I'm gonna you know what person never mind I forgive you thank you Doug so here's my take on how I think that Marvel should have handled the Multiverse Saga and introduced the X-Men again hindsight is 2020 and speaking of 2020 I'm sure figi's original plan to delay the X-Men actually made a lot more sense before a worldwide pandemic shut down the entertainment industry for an entire year so again with the benefit of hindsight I am going to present an idealized version of how I would have brought these characters into this franchise first of all do not bring the fox X-Men characters into the MCU at all clean slate if you want to have Hugh Jackman's Multiverse of Wolverine fight the Hulk you can go do that but he would appear in a specifically Multiverse Centric movie like Deadpool and Wolverine see I think the fox Xmen Universe should have died with the movie Dark Phoenix yeah but I mean they were already making that movie Disney didn't have any control over it well look even though technically Fox made the movie instead of Disney there are rumors that Disney was pressuring Fox to change the villains from the Scrolls to the debari you know because the Scrolls were already appearing in Captain Marvel in that same year so Disney probably could have Rewritten the ending of dark Phoenix however they wanted in a way that would have given that franchise a fitting end so I would have ended that movie with the Phoenix essentially saying that in order to save reality the X-Men would have to sacrifice their lives but that they would be reborn in another universe so this would have adapted the X-Men sacrifice at the end of the comic book fall of the mutants where the X-Men die and then are essentially reborn into new identities and lives this would also be a perfect way to explain why some X-Men characters in the MCU were played by the same actors or played by different actors now I will say though that introducing Deadpool via the Multiverse in the TVA is genius he is the one character that should hop through universes like this because he is aware of the many different franchises at play here and then just just introduce the X-Men into the MCU dur green Phase 5 I mean look just ignore the fox movies and pretend that the MCU just introduced mutants for the first time they would have fit perfectly into the story of the MCU following Avengers endgame okay so phase 4 was set in stone during the fox acquisition but Marvel still could have peppered in mutant Easter eggs throughout phase 4 and I think that maybe some mutants like Xavier and Magneto would have been around for a long time but because they were in the minority they were hiding their abilities from the world but then suddenly thanos's snap would trigger the mutant Gene in all these kids around the world so the majority of mutants on Earth are now under 18 years old and they need guidance they would turn to Mentor figures like Xavier and Magneto for help meanwhile Ordinary People would be scared to death I mean there was already a lot of skepticism and fear around superheroes but now your own children can suddenly turn into one of these freaks with no warning people would be terrified I even think that some of the superheroes would be swept up in this fear storm I could see Heroes like Cody Ant-Man black panther maybe even Bucky all believe that mutants are the most dangerous threat to the world and that fear would have set up a proper adaptation of dark rain or the dark Avengers rest the dark Avengers well look after secret invasion in the comics Norman Osborne was put in charge of shield and he basically set up a system where the villains were in control of the world he replaced the Avengers with super villains posing as Heroes this whole event was awesome and it was called Dark rain and we've talked about this on the channel how it seems like the Thunderbolts and Captain America Brave New world could be giving us versions of this story from the comics but essentially The Avengers disband and the villains secretly become the new Avengers I mean personally I feel like the MCU might be dropping the ball by not leaning even more into the idea of a team of villains taking on the mantle of the Avengers but like that's just me the point is this new fear of mutants could have led to another superhero civil war between the government L dark Avengers and maybe the patchwork Avengers that Sam Wilson is putting together I mean what made the infinity Saga wasn't so great wasn't like the giant spectacles or the crossovers the infinity Saga was great because it was grounded in character we saw the same groups of people evolve over the course of several films and the drama was grounded in how these different Heroes learned to work together over the years bringing mutants into the MCU would have given the post endgame Heroes an ideological battle to challenge their worldviews and to challenge each other instead we're getting the Multiverse Saga which will anchor the mcu's mutants to a 24-year-old franchise we're going to see Heroes like Sam Wilson encounter mutants as just another superhero team who happen to live in another universe and the Avengers will probably have to fight the X-Men but only to save their own Universe instead imagine an Avengers versus X-Men movie where the stakes are grounded in the universe of the actual MCU mutants are popping up everywhere people are afraid the government introduces a mutant registration act that would require mutants to become registered like they are Living Weapons the Thunderbolts or the dark Avengers whoever would enforce the government's policies while the X-Men would oppose these policies this would make the X-Men into Outlaws and put them at odds with the Avengers we could then see an Avengers versus X-Men movie born out of very real character tension and Stakes Stakes that would affect the course of the MCU going forward just like how Captain America Civil War changed the MCU forever but instead we're stuck in the Multiverse Saga which frankly I think is a losing concept what do you mean well okay think about it for one thing the presence of multiple realities cheapens our reality I got this question a lot after endgame after Black Widow died why couldn't they just go back in the past and grab another Natasha then take her to their reality in fact that even happens in the show what if there's a version of Black Widow from a dystopian universe who travels to a universe where their Black Widow died I was told you were dead same the Multiverse makes death basically non-existent which you know I can see that appeal from a corporate point of view after all these movies are based on comics and Comics are designed to run forever every comic book character comes back to life except for Uncle Ben so now if Marvel wants to bring back say Robert Downey Jr for a cameo to juice the box office of Secret Wars they can do that by plucking that character from another reality also when Thanos snapped half the universe you felt that it was traumatizing Michael I mean look trillions of people were being wiped out Across the Universe but it's really hard to hold a number that big in your head so we had to have that loss internalized by the loss of Spider-Man Scarlet Witch Bucky and Sam but I feel like after the snap fige then tried to raise the mes like what's better than destroying half a universe destroying many entire universes but as we saw in Quantum Mania and Loki seen an entire universe wiped out really does nothing for us emotionally because we're just perceiving it as a line on a screen I feel nothing erasing universes in the MCU is the equivalent of watching somebody delete files from a hard drive there's no emotional connection to those files but all they had to do to raise these Stakes was to keep the story personal like in the show Loki in season 2 we see trillions upon trillions of lives snuff out by RVA agents but I bet you didn't care about that as much as you did about this no I have to go back to see my boys but mostly I think the X-Men should have been introduced into the MCU proper because those characters work best when they are part of a larger universe of superheroes like in the fox movies it's pretty clear to the general public that there are good mutants and bad mutants so it makes sense that the X-Men would be perceived as superheroes who can protect people from evil mutants we even see this in X-Men dark Phoenix where the public have finally accepted mutants as their chosen Heroes Xmen but in the Marvel movies and Comics we already have superheroes the mutants are something else the X-Men are supposed to be the outcast superheroes and X-Men 97 explored this Dynamic perfectly we see that government sanctioned Heroes like Captain America play Everything by the book once I get the thumbs up I'll leave my team to Mexico to apprehend gy or that Iron Man has the ear of the president while the president is mostly shuffling Scott and Charles off to the side scared voters see me helping your kind uh sorry son just uh unfortunate Optics introducing mutants to the MCU after the snap would have raised the tension in a world that was already boiling over with fear and resentment it would have raised the stakes in the 616 universe and kept the character focus in that world where it belongs but instead were chained to the Multiverse Saga like don't get me wrong the Multiverse is a fun Concept in the comics for a few issues at a time and I also think that doctor strange exploring the Multiverse is a fun idea for a movie or two but over a long period of time the Multiverse becomes confusing and ultimately feels like a way for corporations to recycle IP with Nostalgia baiting but worst of all it removes character Stakes like I'll show you what I mean oh my gosh person did did you just die well maybe I died or maybe I'm just returning as myself From Another Universe well guys let me know what your thoughts are
