what my mind brought to you by Kellogg's the folks who bring the best to you each morning the widest choice of cereals in the forum's you like best yours from Kellogg's of Battle Creek now let's all play what's my line and now tonight's starting here here is the award-winning panel of What's My Line first the popular columnist whose voice of Broadway appears in papers coast to coast Miss Dorothy Kilgallen last night the famous theatrical club called the Lambs gave a testimonial dinner to an actor who I consider and I don't think anyone will contradict me the greatest player of Gilbert and Sullivan in our time and I'm very proud of that he's sitting here on my left mr. Martin green Thank You Dorothy and it's my great pleasure to introduce somebody whom you all know who performed on Broadway in once more with feeling a home show and someone I'm very very fond of indeed miss Eileen Francis and now sitting in for our dear vacationing Bennett Cerf is my own particular active producer dear Martin Gable and across the floor one of the most articulate men in television mr. John Bailey by reason of this chair it falls to my happy luck to be in a way a spokesman for all of my colleagues on the panel those who have with us tonight and those who have been with us through the years I think many of you know that this is our 10th anniversary our 500th broadcast we began way back in February 2nd 1950 and if you think about it as all of us have we feel that if it really is an anniversary and it calls for a celebration we should give a party for all of you because we should certainly not be here on this 10th anniversary if it wasn't for the support and affection we've had from our public thank you very much and now I think it's only fair to tell mr. green that all these kind words don't mean a thing we're going to get the panel tonight again if we possibly can so welcome once more to What's My Line and we'll be up to our old tricks very shortly we'll also have a famous mystery guest before the panel a little bit later in the show and we meet our first challenger after this word from Dennis James speaking for Kellogg's and now let's meet our first challenger would you come in and sign in please Don L Donnell Browns right where you from mr. brown oxygen Colorado miss Daly Denver Colorado that's nice country to be from and I don't mean it the way it sounded the old joke I mean it's nice country in which to live and it's nice to have you with us may I present the panel mr. Brown thank you Ron Brown would you join me over here you know how we keep score Miss Brown in that event that's a good audience here in the theater and those who are watching at home know exactly what your line is well panel will tell you that mr. Brown is salaried let's begin the general questioning with Arlene Francis well mr. Brown looks like a distinguished gentleman do you work for a non profit making organization mr. Brown yes that's pretty distinguished uh do you represent any branch of our government no that's not very distinguished that's one down a night ago mr. gable you work for a university mr. Brown yes uh is your job with the university often out and require you to be outdoors often sometimes uh would you be in the general category of teacher at the University yes do you teach a non academic subject sometimes uh I don't know where I'm going but I'm going you're going but good to have you have well mr. Brown's general he looks like a clean-cut American University very plain hot dog have you anything to do with sports yes is your sport a seasonal sport no that's two down and eight you go mrs. Kilgallon well aside from the sport mr. Brown do you teach something academic sometimes when are we getting the sometimes or the other well actually what you get to hear is that sometimes is a perfectly valid answer and you will have to assume that there could be an academic cast to his overall responsibility I see uh are you I told you he was articulate I've known it for some years John um mr. brown issue a work mental as well as physical yes ma'am is it physical as well as mental yes ma'am can the sport that you have some connection with be played indoors as well as outdoors yes ma'am our implements used sometimes knives guns things like it well do you teach more or are you connected with more than one sport yes ma'am oh uh are you the head of a department yes ma'am are you the head of the athletic department yes ma'am actually I'm gonna throw these all over I'm mad only 500 broad cat I think mr. Brown will agree that you're so close now that it would be um a little bit unfair to make him go to director of everything I'm keeping on but then you actually Martin you started off brilliantly and Dorothy is revealed its director of physical education that's well Loretto Hyde's column Debra mr. Brown was very generous to you because he he actually is connected with Loretto Heights College and on a technicality could have ruled out the University is you I think you could use me but isn't a rata Heights and girls school it sure is thank you very much that was our little surprise we never get a chance to spring it and I wonder if you have any words of wisdom to give us when you have this assignment as director of physical education at a girls school I think you could help us out we all met problems watch this girl well I say mr. Daly we don't have our problems in our school but we do enjoy the work with the girls how's your football team we don't have them we don't have a football I think this is wonderful actually mr. brannis has got a degree in physical education you also I think are studying for even more credits and and a claim in the field of physiology I'm laboring on a manly way out of time but he's happy and we understand from the young ladies at Loreto had severe happy and everybody is much healthier than they've ever been before so a great good has been achieved we're happy you've been very good to join us and what's my life well I must congratulate you candle that's a very brilliant beginning let's see what you can do with the second challenger will you come in and sign in please thelma Wagner miss or mrs. Messick mrs. Wagner where are you from Hampton Iowa Hampton Iowa right very nice to have you with us tonight may I present the panel Magnus Bane would you join me over here please do you know how would you score mrs. wax I did oh well if you know how he keeps calling me let everybody except my panel know exactly what your line is all right panel we can tell you that mrs. Wagner is self-employed the Martin I think you've earned the right to start this trip Thank You job mrs. Wagner I can rule out I can assume that you're no relation to the mayor of our great city right uh is there a product connected with what you do yes is the product something that's indigenous to the great state of Iowa is it a farm product for example no uh small conference if I may Martin we want to be very fair I would think perhaps our indigenous might be too encompassing a turn but we would have to admit that it would be likely that the product involved here would be coming to the state of Iowa yes I see is the product grown rather than manufactured no that's one god of nine to go miss Kilgallen is it manufactured out of anything that has ever been grown yes is it vegetable rather than animal yes does it grow does the part that is used in the manufacture of this product grow above the ground rather than underneath the ground yes would you consider it a vegetable rather than a fruit yes is it a vegetable which has color a distinctive color rather than something that comes in a variety of colors in other words I don't know what I'm talking about no what you're actually enjoys it is that you have one color rather than a multiplicity of colors yes if I went to the vegetable store would I expect it to be a certain color there are no green potatoes in other words I think that's what it don't say things like there's something here I didn't hear you good fine would you get it yes uh would it be green green no no that's not good dude out of eight to go mr. green I'm mr. white I'm in this degree by a strange coincidence it is a vegetable and it is of one color and it is manufactured is it manufactured for a specific use other than consuming edible yes is it something that is manufactured for use for somebody other than human beings and yes it has to do with the animals yes now what sort of animals do they have on farms of other than horse dogs dogs uh I'm a city boy Rockabye Alliance - let's take a plunge and say has it something to do with horses yes any part of a horse is harness no no three down in seven to go me fencing well I never saw a vegetable blanket I somebody's so a vegetable thank you is it something that would cover a horse yes Eddie Arthur I'd be it would it be any I can it is something other than a jockey which also grows but not would it be considered a blanket in any way yeah now I have to decide what way it's considered a blanket yeah oh it's not me Martin wants to know if it's made out of potatoes but I'm not gonna ask oh it's a vegetable but could we have a moment you may have 35 Erica yeah she did say it was a vegetable and but it but in the manufacturers form it's other than edible and it is it but what are what it used to go to Rose used to cover horses hey everyone Hasan Adele mini hey could you make a hey blanket a corn blanket oh please someday is it a is it a vegetable that when in its manufacture as you say it's used to cover a horse but could it in any other state be edible what if I you know then I could go down and fix the gun couldn't be whole gable is the horse blanket and we're making too much of it the vegetable horse blanket now you see the initial question that raised the matter of the vegetable was Dorothy's question was it vegetable rather than mineral mineral what have to say and then you went down to the specific of a vegetable and you've had corn brackets potato blanket NATO blanket every defensive John what is it really made of cotton wool cotton huh well cut I'm sorry I just didn't get to the state of Iowa no but horse blankets are and actually I think indigenous I said cut saw it I think indigenous press too strong a term B to come to the state of Iowa bill yeah everybody says that a digitus was not the right word don't you ever use it again no I think I've only got one choice it's the 500 broadcast there it goes all the way over and this wagon we had a lot of fun I hope you didn't share endeavor I think this did everybody will be interested mrs. Rieger you just sort of fell into making these blankets for horses and Shetland ponies now she's got a real business going from it and I can give us a tip Kenya mrs. Wagner sure take the horse blanket off the horse before he races that's mrs. Wagner skip for today thank you very much we'll make tonight's mystery guest in just a moment but first here is a word from our sponsor now we come to the special feature of our program the appearance of our mystery Challenger for which my colleagues on the panel for all these years have finished the blindfold themselves so tonight we won't change it we'll ask him to blindfold themselves blindfolds are in place panel yes you're on fine would you come in mystery Challenger and sign in please all right families you know in the case of our mystery challenge did we go to a different form of questioning you asked one question at a time in turn moving clockwise and we'll begin with Dorothy Kilgallen are you primarily famous for your work in the world of entertainment yo mr. green you are a lady yep it's Francis are you known for your working pictures nope one down and nine to go mr. Gable you known for your work in the theater yep mrs.
