hello and welcome to Vancouver carpenter well does wedding paper tape work is this just a homeowner hack or is it actually a pro tip the short answer is I've never seen a professional do it and I've never done it myself however instead of putting my pants on and wondering why people do this instead of just thinning down their mud why don't we actually try it and see if we can find out any advantages to doing it for the homeowner and the occasional do-it-yourselfer actually that's the same thing I met handyman in order to figure out why people do this and why it might work we kind of need to think like they would think so the first thing that we're gonna do is go and get a tub of spackle now no need to thin it down because it says ready mixed all-purpose the thing you need to know is that almost all muds whether they say ready to use ready mixed they're not ready to use they need to be thinned down at the very least they need to be mixed to get rid of the bubbles and porosity however most people on their first attempt aren't gonna do something like this so I have right here some fairly thick mud it's the best I could do it's what I had for loading but it's actually still a tiny bit too thin but lets you know slap it on like a newbie okay yeah put that mud on the wall good yeah okay let's get some dry paper tape on there do it just like in them video I watched okay so I got some thick mud under there and let's just I mean let's wipe this out like that's that's a lot of work and this isn't even as thick as it usually comes in a bucket so it's definitely hard to get this all out of here however if you watched my blisters video you know I'm already not gonna get blisters from this and one of the reasons people do the wet paper tape is to eliminate blisters the main thing I'm having trouble with here is actually just getting the mud oh and if it was a longer stretch of tape this would be pretty difficult okay so there we have that one with way too much mud under it it's not going to blister though but let's try wetting the paper tape and see how that works so first again slap that mud on here I love this this is so fun okay maybe you don't do it that bad get our paper tape - link now do the old dunk okay so it's wet and I'm just gonna take some of this moisture off with my hands cuz that's what I've seen them do and then videos okay there we are well that is a lot easier to wipe out like substantially that was way better way easier and just looking at it I can already tell there's no way I'm gonna get blisters in that tape so let's think about this logically though what did I actually do all I did was add water into the mix at a different stage the main drawback to this method is you're having to take an extra step to dunk your tape in water so what I see this as is actually it's kind of a work around like it's a handyman work around to just thinning your mud way down in the first place I am pretty surprised at how easily it actually worked though so again taking off my judgey pants and looking at this from a different perspective if you aren't concerned about doing things the fastest possible way if you've only got a few of these to do and you don't feel like mixing your mud super-thin this was actually pretty effective and I could see it being a good method to eliminating blisters and getting a decently laid piece of tape and it was way better way better than working with mud that was too stiff so I'm gonna say that I think it's actually a legitimate method for homeowners do-it-yourselfers handyman to get a decently laid piece of tape without getting blisters I'm not gonna be the guy that's gonna rag on it it worked and if you're doing it and it works well keep doing it anyways thanks for watching Vancouver carpenter I hope you found this video useful I hope this dispels you know whether this is just a hack or if it actually works it's definitely not professional but it does work so thanks for watching Vancouver carpenter if you guys want to support the channel do all those like subscribe things anyways thanks for watching until the next video
