please listen for the word of the lord hear the psalmist writes to us he says vindicate me o lord for i have walked in my integrity and i have trusted in the lord without wavering prove me o lord and try me test my heart and mind for your steadfast love is before my eyes and i walk in faithfulness to you i do not sit with the worthless nor do i consort with hypocrites i hate the company of evildoers and will not sit with the wicked i wash my hands in innocence and go around your altar oh lord singing aloud a sound of thanksgiving and telling of all your wondrous deeds oh lord i love the house in which you dwell and the place where your glory abides do not sweep away with sweaters sinners nor my life with the bloodthirsty those in whose hands are evil devices and whose right hands are full of bribes but ask for me o lord i walk in your integrity redeem me o lord and be gracious unto me for the word of the lord says this i love this final verse he says my foot stands on level ground in the great congregation i will bless the name of the lord may the lord have a blessing to the readers hears but most importantly the doers of his holy word before we offer the simonic uh sermon on today before we offer the sermon today i invite reverend blow she will be singing a hymn of the church it is well with my soul please prepare your hearts as she sings the hymn of preparation [Music] when peace [Music] like [Music] [Applause] it is [Music] [Applause] [Music] is is [Music] it is [Music] is [Music] [Applause] [Music] of this is [Music] [Applause] [Music] the is oh my soul [Music] is hemness father that we can truly say without a doubt it is well with our soul whatever my lord father now has taught me to say it is well father that is our prayer even now father allow the lyrics of that song to illuminate our hearts even as we make way to dive into the depths of your word feed us holy spirit feed us feed us our bread of heaven until we want no more allow us to feast father at the table of your word in the name of jesus father we pray that the words of our mouth the meditation of our hearts hit together would be acceptable in thy sight oh lord our redeemer in jesus name we pray amen amen and amen to god be the glory again brothers and sisters we are so delighted so delighted that you are worshiping with us this morning in this online space it's not our endeavor to be with you long on today we invite you if you're able if you're so able we invite you to join us amen this morning for worship we'll be gathering in the sanctuary as we make our way back to the sanctuary we're making our way back to the sanctuary so we invite you if you're so able uh to join us today join us today please try to arrive early if you're able to join us as we prepare to go into worship on today in the sanctuary as we get into the word of the lord as we share these words before we partake of of the holy sacrament i invite you again for reading of psalm 26 this particular passage has ministered to me even as we prepared it on today listen psalm 26 listen for the word of the lord i'm reading from the new international version of the bible listen for the word lord i'll just share three verses and we'll kind of walk our way through it here's what the psalmist writes he says vindicate me oh lord he says for i have led a blameless life he says i've trusted in the lord and have not faltered test me lord try me lord examine my heart and my mind he says this he says for i've always been mindful of your unfailing love and i have lived my life in reliance on your faithfulness the word of god for the people of god thanks be to god hallelujah amen for the time that is hours to share for a few moments i want to talk from the subject how to respond rightly when you've been wronged how to respond rightly when you've been wrong well well let me let me just give a caveat that if this is not for you right now foul it i i suggest you file it because life has a way of incidents and accidents and occurrences showing up uh uh that the calls you are are that will propose an opportunity for you to use this word i like this particular word found in the psalm 26 and i i i think we need to slow down and read the songs because as we read them there is this incredible honesty that is found in the text well we found out that even the uh uh the faithful uh the the people that we like to quote from all the time in the bible they struggle with moments the same way we struggle uh they have utterances uh uh uh in their lives and they get to the point or where their resolve is that they will trust in the lord they don't always start there let me tell you that like we don't start there they don't start there but their resolve is that they will trust in the lord i admire this particular text uh for that because in the text there is this wrongness and reality uh our attention in the text that exists and and that's the part about uh the psalms that draws us in we we find uh uh not only where we are called to be in the psalms are we also find our human condition our human reality psalm 26 is one of those uh david pens uh uh uh this particular text and it's like his consciousness is displayed before us his words touch a sensitive nerve among us ah uh it talks about what it means uh to be caught up in a bad situation where you did the right thing god but the wrong thing still happened and david david david in this text begin to suggest to us things that we can do in these moments david suggested was uh what do you do when you are positioned in a situation where you are right up but yet you have appeared to be wrong uh how do you adequately represent yourself how do you manage yourself and and i i need to talk to some of the saints today because uh we have a tendency to retaliate and and david david david says wait a minute uh uh for those of us who are spiritually mature uh uh retaliation uh seems to be the natural reaction but david says to those of us that are spiritual too we can't live our life like that david says that there is another alternative for those of us who are in christ i love what david writes huh he makes it this emotional plea it's like i i can see him writing this i i can see him going through these motions and david says he says vindicate me in other words david says uh uh clear my record come on somebody david says uh lord i can't fix it huh i tried to deal with the matter i can't deal with it i he said lord he says can you vindicate me he says i have led a blameless life and i have trusted in you uh and have not faltered david david in this particular test has suffered some undeserved wrong and brothers and sisters when you suffer undeserved wrong let me let me let me slow down and just explain this when you suffer listen you can almost justify when you messed up and got what you deserve where david is right now he's suffering from an undeserved wrong and david is trying to see how how do i manage myself when it is extremely painful david says how do i manage myself when i try to help you and you're still alive and when david says how do i manage myself when i hated you and and david says how do i manage myself when i stood up for right and i still got fired david says how do i respond appropriately when i chose to do right and still was wrong ah wait a minute i like this david begins to uh allow me to say this he says he says vindicate me oh lord he says lord i'm pleading my case to you i need you to fix it david says wait a minute uh i have not faltered in this matter he said david is not suggesting that he's perfect he says but father in this matter father i have handled it appropriately and father out of all oh my god out of all the good i've done he says to the father i still have encountered this situation well well as i look at this song i believe the psalmist has a lot to teach us today psalmist even right now helps me to be able to understand how do i manage myself when when when i i chose to do right and i still got wronged up to me david oh my god the psalmist says this here it is point one he says talk to god about wait a minute i know that sounds simple psalm says talk to god that's what he does he cries out to god he says test me lord he says try me lord he says examine my heart and mind wait a minute wait a minute no oh my god note that somebody else has wronged david but david's prayer is not about them but david says test me he says try me and examine me wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute did you get this first principle when you are wrong david says you need to talk to god about you come on somebody wait a minute wait a minute that that's unusual for us in the body a lot of times when we get wrong we go to god about the other person but david says when you've been wrong he said first step he says try me he says examine me he says he says wait a minute i need you god because if we're not true when we're if we're honest when when things like this happen we get bitter and we get upset and david says lord i need you to perform surgery i need you to test me you need you to try me i need you to examine me because that's it there's some hate getting in me and i need you to search me now and cut those things out of me that are not like you david says wait a minute huh before you get to cutting on somebody else because you've been wrong david says i allow the lord to prune you and i'm lord to get you to get a lot lord to fiction in such a way wait a minute huh he understands what we've been talking about in james and james chapter one and two and four oh my god when james says wait a minute he says count it all joy says cut it all joy when you fall into different kinds of trials because the testing of your faith produces perseverance he says let perseverance finish his work so that you may watch this be mature and complete and lacking nothing so david suggest us that when we are wronged he says hey talk to god about it he says wait a minute also when we are wrong when we have these mishaps in life when when things don't go as planned when we are are blamed when we did the right thing david says talk to god about it but then he says remember god's loving kindness i like this david says in verse chapter 26 verse 3 he says i have always been mindful of your unfailing love and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness you see when david was wrong watch this he did when he was wrong he didn't focus on the wrong huh but rather he focused on god's faithfulness to him despite being wrong wait a minute david says wait a minute huh when he was wrong a lot of times what we tend to do is focus on who wronged us and the wrong but david said instead of focusing on that wrong david says what i did i fixed my mind oh god's faithfulness to me in the midst of everything around me that was going wrong help me help me help me even though they lied on me god still blessed me even though i was set up god still i used a setup to fix me up even though calamity and situations i showed up god used them for my good i hear i hear genesis talking to me he says what the devil meant for bad god has turned it around and used it for my good huh david says wait a minute huh talk to god about it but what helps us to get through these moments david says uh we got to remember oh my god god's faithfulness to us help me somebody that's what we got to do we got to remember god's faithfulness to us then the psalmist keeps writing he keeps writing in this text about how to respond appropriately when you've been wrong you've done nothing wrong huh but you've been wrong david says something i think is props one of the most critical things he says he says when i'm in this space listen what david says he says i do not sit with the deceitful nor do i associate with hypocrites david is suggesting us that when you are wrong he says you got to refuse to listen to ungodly advice let me tell you something if you want to mishandle your moment of when you've been wrong just sit with the wrong people listen to the wrong advice get what listen folk around you will hype you up and guess what have you outside the will of god but david says that when i'm in this space i'm careful what advice i allow to get in my spirit help me somebody or david knew that the wrong advice my god in a bad place can mess you up i'ma say it again huh david realized that the wrong advice in a bad space and could mess you up david recognized that when we're in these vulnerable moments huh we've got to be careful no wonder david would say this he says thy word o lord have i hear in my heart that i may not sin against things they've understood that when you're in these bad spaces when you're in these bad places when you have been wronged and you've done nothing wrong and yet you've been accused when you tried to do the right thing david says be careful whom you are whom you are listening to oh my god bad advice in a bad place can be detrimental i'm going to say that for somebody today bad advice in a bad place because i'm going to say it one more time bad advice in a bad space can be detrimental david says that when you're in that space huh says don't listen to bad advice david says but oh he says wait a minute he says what you first got to do got to talk to god about it tell god to test you tell god to try you tell god to examine you so you got to remember god's faithfulness huh so you got to refuse to listen to ungodly advice and then david says something he said this in verse six he says i wash my hands you know what david says when you get that bad space you get to having all these feelings and all these folk around you offering all these opinions david says you better be careful to keep your hands clean huh and your heart clean come on listen david realized that guess what even though we're holding even though we are christian if you allow all of this stuff to feed you david says when you get in that place he says you got to make sure you keep your hand in other words david says in the midst of those bad spaces he says you got to maintain your integrity oh my god help me listen many of us feel like when we get upset when we've been wrong we have an excuse to act to step outside the will of god but david says that oh my god there's some is right he says in that space he says keep your hands clean and your heart clean oh my god oh my god help me help me help me listen just because you're upset just because you are have been wronger is not an excuse to step outside of the will of god and the hand of the matter i'm going to say it again i'm going to say it one more time let's pray for somebody today just because you're upset just because you have been wronged it is not an excuse to step outside of the will of god for your life huh and handling the situation huh oh no no no no no no no no the sum is right he says keep your hands clean and your heart clean come on somebody i'm through i'm through i'm through i'm through i'm through but it says in verse 11 it's where i get happy he says his words he says he says deliver me o god and be merciful to me that's how david closes the prayer he says deliver me o god and be merciful to me wait a minute wait a minute when you're in that bad space when you've been wrong and you've done nothing wrong you can't free yourself david says look up ask the lord lord deliver me deliver me wait a minute that's his words the word deliver means to ransom the word delivered means to redeem the word delivered means to come get from a threatening situation oh my god the word deliver means to rescue me david knows that his only rescue in that space and place is to ask god for help no wonder david writes in the 121st number of psalms he says i will lift mine eyes to the heels from which cometh my help my help comes from the lord here's my favorite line he says he will not suffer my foot to be moved david recognize that when you lean on god even in the midst of your frustration even in the midst of your hurt even in the midst of your pain even in the midst of all you're going through when you lean on the lord the lord will rescue you oh my god my god listen david provides in this psalm on alternative my god we've been talking all month long last month about james about listening and doing we've been in bible study talking about james and then today we're arrested in the text in psalms uh where the psalmist watch this he starts with prayer and ends in prayer saying lord this situation is beyond me i need you to fix it and i i don't know who i'm talking to today i don't know who it is but let me tell you something there are many of us that are living and breathing in situations that are beyond us and the foolishness of this world wisdom would tell us to take matters into our own hand oh but i believe that the master is looking for somebody today to say i will trust god i will trust him he is my deliverer he is my peace he is my god he is my god i will trust him to deliver me will you trust him today listen that's the whole meaning of david's prayer because sometimes there are some situations that even when you try to defend yourself you find yourself digging a deeper hole for yourself let me say it again some situations even when you try to defend yourself you can be ever so right even when you try to defend yourself you can find yourself digging a deeper hole for yourself but i hear the psalmist the psalmist came for you today he's talking to you today he's got an email with your address he's saying cry out to the lord vindicate me deliver me oh my god oh my god well i told you listen if this male is not for you valid because if you live long enough somebody will wrong you if you live long enough somebody will take something you said and use it against you listen let me tell you if you live long enough if god blesses you to live long enough somebody will misrepresent you and you'll find yourself with your back against the wall oh but the psalmist rights to us do not be discouraged do not be dismayed he says but look to the lord trust him and the god we serve the god we serve he is faithful he is faithful to deliver us listen the gospel of jesus christ will deliver you listen oh my god i hear some i hear you talking to me somebody said reverend i've been there i've been there too listen he is faithful he is faithful listen somebody's saying they used to sing that old song that says he's a battle axe in the time of about all that you need listen he told the children of israel he says hold your peace sometimes you got to hold your peace can't say nothing gotta hold your peace and allow the lord fight your battle listen listen when you hold your peace worldly wisdom will say that you're weak but the word of the lord says that when you appear to be weak that's when you're strong all brothers and sisters this word is for somebody today how to respond appropriately when you're wrong the world says fight fire with fire but the word of the lord says overcome evil with good brothers this is our responsibility is to respond according to the will of the lord every action every deed we want it to be found pleasing unto the lord this is the word of god for the people of god thanks be to god hallelujah amen oh my god today oh i thank god for his word today i thank him oh i don't know about you but that that word was for me it resonates because sometimes things happen the first response you want to get your boxing gloves and start boxing but god says no david said you got to pray for yourself come on david says test me try me and examine me oh my god god keep my motives in check keep my motive and then he says pray for the lord pray to the lord to deliver you i want to pray today listen i i don't i don't i don't know who's going through that right now i don't know who's facing that trial right now i don't know who's facing that moment right now but listen god told me to tell you today he will deliver you he will he will deliver you if you only trust him he will deliver you he will bring you out listen i'm gonna pray father in the name of jesus oh my god thank you thank you for your word that comes to us father oh my god it comes to us god where we are father oh father i just pray right now father i pray i pray i pray for that young man that young woman that's in that space right now father where they have been wrong and they don't even know how to manage themselves father but i pray father oh father father today i pray that you're strengthening them for the journey and i pray father that you're releasing angels right now from above you're releasing angels right now father to come and rescue them come and come holy spirit and endow them with what they need so that they can press forward father oh father i thank you i thank you father because oh i know you're with us father and i know you're gonna see us through father i thank you all for that young man that young woman that have not made the decision to follow you father i pray i'll pray right now father uh that you changed our hearts turn our hearts to thee father in the name of jesus father turn our hearts to thee in the name of jesus i thank you father oh thank you jesus father oh thank you jesus thank you jesus my hope is built on nothing less than jesus blood and righteousness i dare not trust the sweetest frame but holy lean on jesus name on christ the star let rock [Applause] is [Music] on christ the solid rocket all on the ground is sinking sand all other [Music] amen amen let's prepare our hearts for the sacrament of holy communion this time wherever you may be i want you to get your elements together your bread and your wine as we prepare as we prepare as we prepare our hearts and our minds for the sacrament of holy communion [Music] hallelujah hallelujah let us break pray together on our knees let us break bread together on [Music] when my face to the rising sun [Music] oh lord have mercy on me let us join together reverend wimbish is here to join me as we participate in the sacrament of the lord's table christ our lord invites to this table all who love him who honestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another therefore let us confess our sin before god and one another let us pray merciful god we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart we have failed to be an obedient church we have not done your will we have broken your law we have rebelled against your love we have not loved our neighbors and we have not heard the crimes in needy forgive us we pray free us for joyful obedience through christ jesus our lord amen hear the good news that while we were yet sinners christ died for us so in the name of jesus christ you are forgiven in the name of jesus christ you are be given glory to god amen the great thanksgiving the lord be with you and also with you lift up your hearts we lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right to give our thanks and pray it is right and good and joyful thing always and everywhere to give thanks to you father almighty creator of heaven and earth and so with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join in their unending hymn holy holy holy lord god of power and might heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest holy are you and blessed is your son jesus christ by the baptism of his suffering death and resurrection you gave birth to your church you delivered us from slavery to sin and death and made with us a new covenant by water and spirit and on the night in which he gave himself for us he took bread he broke it gave thanks to you broke the bread gave us to his disciples and said take it e this is my body which has given it for you do this in remembrance of me when the supper was over he took the cup gave thanks to you gave it to his disciples and said drink from this all of you this is my blood of the new covenant pour it out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this as often as you drink it in remembrance of me and so in remembrance of these your mighty acts in jesus christ we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice in union with christ is offering for us as we proclaim the mystery of faith christ has died christ is risen christ will come again pour out your holy spirit on all of us gathered in this space and on these gifts of bread and of wine make them be for us the body and blood of christ and we may be for the world the body of christ redeemed by his blood by your spirit make us one with christ one with each other and one in ministry to all the world until christ comes in final victory and we feast at his heavenly banquet through your son jesus christ with the holy spirit in your holy church all honor and glory is yours almighty father now and forever amen if you would expose the bread at this time the body of christ given for you take any [Music] expose the wine take and drink the blood of our lord and savior jesus christ [Music] remember as often as we eat and dream we show the lord's death until it returns again at this time we'll have reverend when to come and she'll share our benediction when i fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun oh [Music] mercy on me as you go forth from this place but never from the presence of god and god's peace that surpasses all understanding be upon you both now and forever amen amen [Music] this is our prayer [Music] come on if your voice is [Music] [Music] please please [Music] myself [Music] yes is [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] is [Music]
