We're Getting Used To The Dark

hey everybody this is dr. kid and I'm the pastor of a massive Kingsport we're located at 58 42 West Carter's Valley Road right here in beautiful Kingsport Tennessee every Sunday is Resurrection Sunday in First Samuel chapter number three verse number one and the child Samuel ministered under the Lord before Eli and the word of the Lord was precious in those days there was no open vision and it came to pass at that time when Eli was laid down in his place and his eyes begin to wax them that he could not see it was at that time he's laying down his eyes are dim and her the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord where the Ark of God was and by the way Samuel was laid down the sleep I want to preach on a subject today that's probably unpopular not only in churches but I'm sure on the internet the television the radio the Facebook the YouTube and all the other outreaches we have but truth is not something you declare because of popularity truth is something we declare because of its demand and I want to preach for just a few minutes today on the subject we're getting used to the dark here in the tabernacle of God where the Ark of God was placed inside the holiest of Holies there God instituted something called the candlestick it was hewed out of solid gold when you went into the tabernacle the table of showbread was on the right the incense pot was before your eyes and the candlestick was to your left it was hand beaten out of solid gold and at the top was seven vials that held pure olive oil a type of the Holy Ghost wicks were put in that oil and they were lit and that was the only light that illuminated the tabernacle they were no windows there were no Sun lamps in the ceiling the only light they had to minister before the Lord came out of that great the state made of solid gold it was the priests responsibility to not only keep the vessels full of oil but to also keep the wick strand so that the light would be bright and it would stop smoke from smothering inside the temple the Bible is very clear that Eli being an elderly man if you'll read the rest of this chapter he was a fat man he had laid down and went to sleep and he did something that God commanded in the book of Exodus to never happen God said don't you ever let that candlestick run out of oil day and night you keep it fool you keeps the wits trend and you keep the light burning for several reasons number one no matter what time a Jew goes back this tabernacle when they looked inside the temple the tabernacle of God and they see that light burning they know they're serving a God that never sleeps and never slumbers it was also the illumination that allowed them to carry out the duties of the priesthood in the house of God sad to say in the days that we are living in many churches have let the light go out preachers will not trim the wick they will not fill the vessels they will not tell the truth and they won't stand for watch right and Eli had laid down went to sleep and allowed the lamp to go out but notice the terminology in verse three and her the lamp of God went out did you see that English word e r e there's nothing wrong with that word it is a perfect word we don't change the Bible at this church we don't read out of other versions of the Bible in this search we believe this is the holy inspired inerrant god-breathed Word of God here the word r is a beautiful English word it simply means just before another event happens so before the light went out and it got dark in the house of God you'll see three things that was happening among the congregation when these three things begin to happen you can mark it down the church is about to lose its candlestick you will also find this same terminology in Revelation 2 and 3 when John is writing to the seven churches warning them that God would remove their candlestick their light their illumination and their power let me show you some things that was going on in the church that may have cost them this precious presence of God number one there was a laziness among the servants the Bible said that Eli had laid down and went to sleep I have studied the tabernacle from front to back top to bottom and side to side nowhere in the bible does it ever say that there was a sleeping quarters connected to the temple for the priest to go to sleep right in the very presence and house of God this servant the preacher had laid down and got comfortable and the Bible said his eyes begin to wax them I hate to tell you this but it's the honest truth the problem with most churches losing their power and the presence of God is not necessarily what's going on in the pew it's what is not going on in the pulpit that's what's costing us the power and the presence of God it's not your job to fill the vessels of the oil it's mine it's not your job to trim the wig it's mine it's not your job to keep the candle burning it's mine and we can blame it on anybody and any saying but but the bottom line is this we have filled our churches with preachers that know how to outline they know how to do hermeneutics they know how to do whom homiletics they know all about eschatology and soteriology but they know nothing about the old-fashioned power and the anointing and the bad closet of the Holy Ghost and preachers have become lazy they don't study anymore they don't labor with God anymore they fool around all week again get on the internet Saturday night and flip through a bunch of outlines and they wonder why there's no power in the church why nobody's getting saved why there's no presence of God laziness among the servants number two there was a lack of preaching I've never seen this before until I was reading these verses again in verse number one the Bible said there was no open vision that in that day and the Word of God was precious did you see that word precious see I always thought that the Word of God was precious in the fact that it meant something to them because there was no open vision there was no revelation there was no prophesying going on in this day therefore it made the Word of God that more precious that was the only light the only guide they had but that word precious doesn't mean that it was something special it means it was something of a rare form see when you get something that's only got one or two or limited duplicate duplicates of it it makes it more precious because it's hard to find and what the Bible is saying here is the word of God wasn't precious to the people because there was an open vision the Bible was saying because the preacher had laid down and had gotten lazy and wasn't doing what he was supposed to do it was very rare that you would ever find the Word of God signed in a place in the church house I'll tell you some brother there's only one way to build a church right and it's not on singing and it's not on skits and it's not on quartets and it's not on plays you gotta build it through Bible those of you that are listening if you're going to a church where the man of God will open up the Bible and do his work and labor with God and preach from that infallible word and he's not God on him you are a rare commodity and you better fight God every day that you got a preacher that'll preach that Bible with a power of God on him number three and this one touched me not only did we see he that there was a lack of preaching and laziness but the legacy they were leaving behind see the Bible said this samuel was a young boy and he I was training him to be the next generation of the priesthood brother Glenn so during his formative years Samuel is being influenced by what he's seeing in here and from the pulpit you emulate what influence is you influence emulates in your life that's why you got to be careful who you hang around and what you talk about it how you act because influences you begin to emulate once you're influenced by and Eli was influenced in Samuel and the Bible said that that Eli had laid down the example the influence on Samuels life as a boy had laid down and you know what the Bible said in verse three so did Samuel and Samuel was laid down to sleep can I say something I don't want to be ugly but I got to tell you the truth we have got to quit beating these young kids over the head for not being everything they can be when all they're doing is emulating what they've been trained up around watching parents that are not what they're supposed to be watching mom and dads that are not watching what do you expect your kids to turn out like they're in your lighting you when you got daddies that don't want to go to church and you got mamas that criticize everything that's going on no wonder your kid don't want to go to church no wonder they sit on the back row and play with their telephone while preachers going on they are in your lady what they're learning in their house well you hear me well I'm gonna raise hell I'm gonna keep the light burning I'm gonna keep the lamps round so there are young people to ride the legacy was gone our churches have learned we don't repent we just adjust to the darkness you notice during our song service here it's computerized in our auditorium we don't have light switches everything here's a full computer system did you realize when we got done singing and you sit down and after I read my verses did you notice the lights went down in the auditorium now there's several beneficial reasons for that it's not as easy to be distracted by other things going on around you keeps your eyes and your focus on the front of the building but I notice when we turn these lights down your eyes adjusted to the darkness your eyes didn't change the darkness just because your lives had eyes had been illuminated to light just a minute ago when these lights went down your eyes did not fight the light adjustment it just adjusted to it and in just a few moments now what was dark just a minute ago you don't even recognize how dim it's got in this building and that's exactly what the scripture is implying slowly but surely we've allowed the light spiritually to go down in our churches and instead of repenting we're adjusting in our day and the darker it gets instead of somebody getting right we just adjust to it and now what you used to think was wrong five years ago all of a sudden isn't wrong anymore it's not that the Bible's changed it's just that you've adjusted instead of repented and you notice this things always go dim prior to going dark the Bible said that Eli's eyes wax dim her the lamp before the lamp ever went out things had dimmed down you know what makes these lights dim down in this auditorium we cut back on the power it's a power shortage I tell you why these lights are dimmer than they were a minute ago we have a switch on the computer right there you know what it does it doesn't adjust the light it adjusts the power to the light I'm gonna tell you why churches are deal I'm gonna tell you why they're dark anymore Oh generational scenes only get dark in families and things only get dark nationally as a result of us letting it first get dark in the church oh there's a lot of darkness going on that I could preach on that would probably have you on your feet whistling Dixie but all of these are just the results of us failing to keep the power and presence of God in our churches for so goes to church so goes the nation oh I could talk about the direction of our politics who ever thought we'd see the day that we would have radical religious God denying heathens sitting in political leadership's in our country and make fun of our president and make fun of our Bible and make fun of our beliefs and in the committees and the different branches of Republicans and Democrats are afraid to call them out they're afraid they might offend them you know what I want to say to those radicals if you got such a big mouth and you're so strong why don't you go back to the country you fled from and preach that propaganda back the country you come from they'll cut your ever-loving head off that's why you won't go protect nonsense over there you know better and the corruption has now become so dark in this country that nobody wants to say anything the Democrats have taken a turn to the left and the Republicans are such a bunch of pansies I wonder if they're a bunch of transgender cross dressers I wonder if they're well in Penny's high heels and nylons bless God we need some politicians that'll get a backbone about them and be a statesman and represent us and forget about the political polls and just start saying what's right when we're killing babies when they've been in their mother's womb for nine months this country's going to hell in a handbasket I'm telling you good as being called evil and evil is being called good when we turn our back on Israel we are in trouble every politician in Washington that downgrades Israel I'll be run out of this country [Applause] and this is the mess that we're living in they claim political Liberty First Amendment constitutional right of freedom of speech oh how they love to sing and parade that till you wear make America great again hat and all of a sudden they throw you out of the apartment stores and they throw you out of restaurants you can wear a t-shirt saying Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer that glows in the dark I don't give a good glory red but if I wanna wear a matter hey it's none of your stinking business what I had I want to wear my head I could talk about the darkness of our political days I could talk about the division in our homes how that you're going to being raised without moms and dads how young people are having to fend for themselves I could talk about the deterioration of our moral climate I was preaching on fornication and premarital sex and getting pregnant out of wedlock at a meeting not long ago and a lady come to me and said what gives you a right to say something like that I said two things number one the Bible the Bible says it's wrong and it doesn't matter if it's your kids doing in her mind the Bible still says shacking up living together fornication and adultery is anti Bible and so is same-sex marriage and so is transgender and so is no gender it's all an abomination in the sight of God now I can't change that second of all I am a law-abiding taxpaying citizen my taxes pay for seven hundred and fifty thousand girls last year to have babies without a husband and a daddy as long as I'm paying for three-quarters of a million girls that have babies that I have to pay I have to see and I have to clothe I'll preach on fornication every night of my life it's none of your business I could talk about the deterioration of the morals of our day I could talk about the disrespect to Authority I did not have the privilege of being raised in a Christian home but I was raised in a home where you said yes sir and no ma'am I was raised in a home where daddy only told you to get out of bed one time just thought I'd throw that in let's go out I didn't need iTunes to wake me up I heard daddy tune and that was enough for me bless God when he walked down the hallway I stood up at attention and when he told me to do something he only had to tell me to do it one time one time and he didn't have to check on me to see if it was done he knew it was done and I didn't smart back to mama when daddy was out of town and I didn't tell daddy to shut up I'm living proof I've never told my daddy to shut up cuz I wouldn't be standing here today if I ever Mouse back to my mom and dad like that they're two Jet's knock my brains out what my mom and dad would have done you little brats running around threatened to call 9-1-1 if your mom and daddy paddles you bless God my boy said one time said said my mama whooped me with a plastic spoon so much I got magic chest Magic Chef written across my rear end where my wife paddled him with that plastic spoon but I tell you what he loves his mama today he respects his mama today he honors his mama today I'm gonna tell you parents running around letting your kids tell you to shut up tell you to shut up and get out of here slam doors the house and kick holes in the sheetrock some of you parents hate look up here me some of you can't even get your sons and daughters to turn their stinking cell phone off long enough to let me preach to them for 30 minutes you can't even get your kid to turn it flashed itself hold on I tell you bless God what I do if as my daughter I throw that sucker out in the parking lot I'd run it over with a car and let them do without one for about six months and I promise they'll learn to put it away when they come in the house of God can I get an amen right there principals having to walk around having heart attacks and scared to death not only because of the students but these lizards hug Mama's come running down there you can't even correct their kids anymore here comes mama with DSS everybody's wanting to press charges no wonder your kids a brat your daughter's a you're the problem you ought to let the principal beat the lizard devil out of them and teach them what discipline is in their life and get them on the right track that's how far we've come let me tell you why someone you don't like it you're a stinking spoiled bride you ain't never had a whipping in your life he ain't was a guy now you say how my daddy did it in our school if you got a paddle and the principal called your parents not for permission just to let him know we about to beat the hide off of that boy there's the bottom all bottom of a boat or and we had to bend over the back of a chair backwards and grab the seat of it you better believe I got saved that day and my principal called my daddy and said Phil's giving us trouble down here at this school I've give him five licks I'm lifting his feet plumb up off the floor when I hit him but I can't get that boy to obey anything I do what do you want me to do you know my daddy said double it that man hit me 10 times of that boat or you could have shot my rear with a shotgun and I wouldn't have felt it for two months I was numb from my ear loads of my ankle but the next time I saw that principal it was yes sir I'm not in trouble anymore are you listening to me when I called it much less hello yeah I knew I'd lose some of you there but I want to preach it anyhow your kids are a product of the influence you're giving them I could talk about the desperation in the disrespect but for us to jump on politics and what we see going on in the world and then just decline and adjust to what's going on in the church makes us nothing more than hypocrites if a politician or a teacher puts their hands on a little kid and inappropriately touches anybody's child that politician that teacher that leadership that coach ought to be put in prison without hesitation without hesitation they ought to be put in prison if they have stepped over another line and sexually abused that individual I'm for a process that's even stronger than the penitentiary and I think if we would start doing the process that I believe in a lot of these pedophiles would get off the internet get off the couch and go get a job and stop doing what they're doing the little kids but as long as we're gonna fund them and put them in prison for 60 years and give them security guards and make sure they don't get beat up on because of what they did the son little kid let me tell you something if those perverts mess with somebody's kid they ought to let them turn loose on them and let him feel what it's like to get abused by somebody else they oughta let them get abused but at the same time if a low-down yellow-bellied two-faced good-for-nothing lily-livered watered-down perverted preacher puts his hands on anybody inappropriately he deserves the same punishment as a principal as a politician or as a schoolteacher there should not be a difference just because they're in the ministry any preacher that'll put his hand on a kid he oughta go to prison is he sexually abused them they oughta let the prisoners have it and we could stop this Nobbs I'm saying we shouldn't make a difference just because it's church related a man good preaching brother CAD good so what are we doing to let the light go out how dim do you want this place to get how comfortable do you want me to let it get I'm like a motel 6 I'm gonna leave the light on and if you don't like it there's a sleepy holler down here and there's a Travel Lodge down here but as long as you come to this church I'm gonna preach this book I'm gonna try to have a power god on me I don't have nobody's your money cannot buy me your family cannot buy me your influence will not buy me I'm gonna turn the light on if it's your kid I'm gonna turn the light on is it your marriage I'm gonna turn the light on if it's your school [Applause] so what signs what are the signs of a church getting dim are we getting used to the dark I just want to mention them in closing number one when you go inside the tabernacle the first thing you find on the rights to the table of showbread there's 12 loaves of bread there were 12 nations of Israel meant there was bread for every tribe dan was the smallest ephraim was the largest but they both got the same bread Jesus is a type of the bread in the Bible and when you come to Jesus it doesn't matter if you're a nobody or if you're somebody we all partake of the same sacrifice when witnessing to other people stops in the church we're getting used to the dark did you know 85 excuse me 58 percent of all the people that live in the state of Tennessee do not go to church at all that means one out of every two people you face the rest of your life in this state does not go to church seventy eight percent of the people in Tennessee said they would come to church if they were invited by a family or friend but statistics shows only two percent of Christians never invite anybody to come with them have you invited somebody to come this week are you part of the ninety-eight percent it just comes here hoops and hollers claps and whistles and leaves and nothing ever changes you know why people get saved here all the time you know why we're gonna be baptized you want people are gonna be joining here because somebody's got a burden to reach people and when the church quits reaching people the light goes out there's much more I could say but I'm out of time and I want to close for this the most important thing in my life is this local church I love all of our outreaches I love all of our ministries I love the television internet Facebook Roku YouTube ready I love all of it but this is pre-eminent what's going on right here in this building and if I ever one time just one time see that these cameras are affecting what's going on in this building you have my word I will rip every one of these suckers out by the wires and throw them out in the parking lot and I'll stop every bit of it I want to build a local church that keeps the lights burning and the power flowing television audiences do not build churches internet audiences and I love every one of them do not build churches you and I together with the power of the Holy Ghost that's what keeps this look you can't get the tale before the dog I don't care how many are watching on television if I'm not reaching somebody in my local community [Applause] [Music] and these [Music] and great Oh [Music] [Music] of the Lord
