'Weird Al' Yankovic - Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction?

hello this is weird al' yankovic and you're watching defuser [Music] that is true that is in fact my full name my freshman year in the dorms at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo there are at least one or two people calling me Weird Al I don't know why people are cruel [Music] I honestly don't know why my parents decided to give me accordion lessons I joke about it but but it is true that somebody came door-to-door offering music lessons and I believe the only two choices were accordion or guitar and for whatever reason my parents thought oh yes young Alfred would love to play the accordion [Music] I do I I got my bachelor's degree I have a degree in architecture which I use all the time sometimes I think about what all the tangents my life could have taken if things hadn't worked out and I'm glad it worked out this way I like this version of my life [Music] yes that's pretty much all accurate I I make my master list and I then I think of as many variations on a theme as I can and hopefully find at least one that's actually you semi clever I can't verify the reasons why Michael Jackson said no I'm just glad that he did because you know part of me didn't want to go to the well a third time and do another Michael Jackson period I was already at the time getting known as the Michael Jackson parody guy so when he said no I I moved on to Nirvana and did you know smells like Nirvana which which really revitalized my career at the time so he actually did me a huge favor [Music] I'd met Michael Jackson two or three times and I was I was very grateful to be asked to be in the Liberian girl video he was not on the set though you see him at the end of the video working the camera he wasn't really working the camera it was not on the set at all at least when when the celebrities are there yeah they're still you know he said she said going on you know this is close to 20 years ago it's water under the bridge you know Coolio has publicly said he made too big of a deal about a new sari and and you know I it's it's unfortunate because it's the only part of my story that's got any drama to it which is why you're like behind the music made it into a big deal like my beef with Coolio it's it's fine [Music] that's true in fact a chameleon era came up to me at the Grammys the year that he won his uh Grammy for rap song of the year and he thanked me said you know your parody is a big reason why I won this Grammy because you made it undeniable that Ryden was the rap song of the year yeah IIIi done some rap songs prior to that I didn't have any formal rapped Renee didn't go to rap school so I guess I guess I kind of picked it up on my own that is true it turns out the whole time we thought we were dealing with Lady gaga we were actually dealing with her manager and her man and you know that happens a lot where the artists themselves are very cool but the people representing them sometimes stand in the way [Music] that is actually true that sounds like a joke but that really happened in fact I found out after the fact that several other people in Princes immediate sitting area got the same telegram so he didn't single me out but I did send Prince back a telegram the same day saying yes please don't establish eye contact with me either goes both ways [Music] I have you know I think the best band in the world I've had the same guys since the early 80s they're phenomenal they do every genre from gangster rap to polka music and everything in between and they just nail it I mean they're so good at what they do and it makes me look good I like to surround myself with talented people this is true I've done backwards masking twice in fact I'm surprised they didn't get a warning sticker my ah maybe it was going for that maybe that was the whole plat plan all along my friend Paul Scheer tells me a story about how his mother actually smashed my in 3d and 3d album because it had backwards masking on it thinking it was evil and satanic which just I find that very amusing [Music] this is true you see Wikipedia is pretty true most of the time yes I've had some wonderful fans that have making an effort to get me into the Rock Hall I wouldn't hold my breath but I know that they're definitely fans they're on the committee and and you know they have all my support you know I know I'm not passing petitions around for them but I you know I wish certainly wish them the best of luck [Music] yes that's true I have said that and that is in fact the plan I mean I I hate to draw any hard lines in the sand but I'm you know people ask me like what are you doing next what's next and and it feels like for me the conventional album has become sort of antiquated what I do is more topical and timely and it feels like you know singles and digital distribution is sort of the way to go so you know what we'll see what happens [Music] [Music]
