good morning everybody it is thursday june 24th we're just getting melting going here in the morning let's see we got the first few limes already under yeah that's the first line done she's a cheater she should walk straight out instead she comes onto the deck walks to the end makes me have to wait to put the sequencing gates down like how's such a bossy cow she wants to be in the parlor first and then she wants to be back in the barn first funny girl [Music] [Music] we just finished up milking and i was cleaning this area here by the sword gate and the foot bath we fire hose this off every morning just to keep it nice and clean but i noticed when i was spraying the manure over here something different in the manure we look pretty closely here all the farmers are probably going to know right away we can see a bunch of whole barley in the manure here and i could see it in pretty much all the patties there's some quite a bit more than usual whole barley so we feed barley to the milk cows it's got a lot of energy and it's one of the higher energy products that we put in the total mix ration for the cows and it helps them produce a lot of milk we process that barley through a hammer mill and it's supposed to crack it into fine fine little pieces and that helps the cow digest and get all the nutrient value out of that grain if it's not cracked or you know broken up into a bunch of little pieces it'll go straight through the cow and that's what we're seeing there in the menorah with the whole barley so i'm gonna quickly go and check our hammer mill out and make sure that that thing is doing a good job because we shouldn't be seeing this much whole barley in the manure so that right there is our feed mill set up that's the biggest bin right there and it's filled with raw or whole barley it hasn't been cracked yet there's a little auger that goes through a hammer mill that brings it up to another bin over there and that's the processed barley grain i'm gonna quickly check out and make sure that this hammer mill is good on the inside look at that guys that's exactly where we're getting all that whole barley from the screen is supposed to sit around these beaters here and nothing spins it's got a pretty big electric motor on the back there and it supports to force all of the barley grain through all these little tiny holes in the screen and if there's a big hole in the screen like we see right here a bunch of whole barley is going to get past and that's why we're seeing all that whole barley in the cow's manure so probably could have replaced this a little bit sooner but uh yeah this thing is i think six months old and we probably replaced the screen once but you can see we got to do it more often for the rest though we really like this hammer mill it's been working great and i believe there's a magnet in there to catch a bunch of metal pieces you can see that's getting pretty dirty as well you probably still use that look at all the metal bits that's that's so all the barley grain flows through here past that magnet and this is all trash that came out of that barley washer well anyway i'm gonna go finish cleaning that i think we're gonna have to pick up a new screen i don't think we have a spare we have one that was used but better just put a brand new one in there and uh it's cool you can see that from the cows manure that something in the feed processing plant is not working right cow manure can actually tell you quite a bit about cows well guys we are back in the haybine our sister miriam is driving it this morning and then melina is going to be taking over just after lunch and then it's going to be time for her to milk around 3 30 this afternoon then i'm going to take it over so all the kids are going to get to drive this thing today pretty cool and we're going to try and drop this 70 acre piece then we have two more little grass pieces that we got to drop yet we're going to try and make small square bells out of those other two pieces and this one is going to be primarily uh bigger round bales so those full-size round balls what we're gonna try and do with this piece we're starting to see a little bit more of that fox tail that furry weed or grass that you guys see in the grass there kind of sucks we're gonna have to see if we're gonna feed this or not miriam has driven this thing quite a bit last summer yeah you had a great time cutting peas right a lot of fun so much fun so the peas last year they were pretty pretty difficult to cut for some reason we couldn't cut him with a draper header we had to bring this hay bind header out to the p field we were trying to silence the piece and even this hate mine header was really struggling so miriam got quite a bit of experience on this so she should be good to go wow good job i clicked it double i'm sure you did don't put that in it's going in oh come on why not so usually miriam's job when we're doing haying or silaging usually you rank right yeah i don't still get to rape this yeah so you're gonna come back here two days from now hopefully and rake two swallows into one and then i'll come back with the baylor build stuff up yep we just took over from my sister naleen finished up that 70 acre piece and now we're going to start a 30 acre piece that's really close to our yard you can see the yard just back there and this patch of grass is along here behind the silage pits it's kind of small but we planted this last year and this grass crop looks incredible compared to the one that we just cut i'm really looking forward to seeing how heavy this grass crop is we're gonna plan on small square building this entire field hopefully we get a thousand maybe two thousand bales off it'd be awesome obviously it's only 30 acres that's pretty optimistic but we'll see what happens anyway we're going to get started cutting this piece of grass here well the whole field is not as thick as this but this is way better off than the last field we were in on average and you can see all the seeds from the grass or whatever it's pollinating or something a bunch of little yellow seeds are on the grass it's getting up on the header here making it all yellow i wasn't expecting that it is the next day now and we finished cutting all the hay that's the bail picker for small squares we're getting everything ready to go for bailing now so we're gonna do round bales and small square bales so right now i'm going to take the round baler out with the tractor we're going to service it make sure that thing's all ready to go we just park our baler in this lane two part of the shed here so this is our baler setup right here this tractor pretty much only ever sits in front of the baler we never take it off unless it breaks down or something so it's pretty much a self-propelled baler if you want to look at it like that but we're going to take this thing out i can see still going to blow the entire baler off from last fall see if she wants to start up look at that so this air filter is looking really clean we're still going to blow it out anyway [Music] it's all grease the rods are blown out air filters blown out cleaned it off a bit last thing i'm gonna do is put some grease on the chains here just kind of lube them up anyway guys that is gonna be it for today's video i hope you enjoyed if you did be sure to hit those
