Vicious Shih Tzu groomers refuse to work on

oh my God this is Winnie he's a Shih Tzu and his owner warned me that he has to be groomed under anesthesia due to behavioral issues since this can be very unhealthy over a period of time he's here today to see if I'm able to complete him without the use of drugs okay Winnie are you gonna try to kill me are you going to be a good boy what do you think want to sniff everything see what everything is so normally Winnie gets groomed on her anesthesia and he would just get shaved everywhere so that he doesn't have to go in to be groomed as frequently obviously being put under anesthesia several times a year is not healthy for a dog so the owner has brought him in in really good shape he doesn't have any matting or anything like that in the hopes that we can give him a cute haircut today and in the hopes that by grooming this dog I can teach other groomers how to deal with him specifically and maybe he doesn't have to get groomed under anesthesia anymore I've never done Winnie before I don't know how he's going to behave and I don't know if that's going to be possible but we will find out so first I'm going to warm up the water and see how he reacts when I turn it on okay Winnie because I asked is his paws and his butt so in those particular areas I'm going to use the most amount of caution because I don't want to get bit I always ask the owners where are the areas of concern that they will trigger over because usually good owners will know so far the Pekingese is putting you to shame okay we're gonna wash your face and your eyeballs now what do you think so I'm going to use the purple nozzle for the face fortunately he is a shih tzu um I know I'm pronouncing the name wrong it's supposed to be Shizu or shitsu anyways I say shitsu because that's what everybody in my area calls them whenever a client calls they call them a shitsu and it's just a funny joke because a lot of them like to poop while you're grooming them so I just kept it like that but I am aware that I'm pronouncing it incorrectly the good thing about him is that his snout is not overly pushed in which means I'll be able to get a muzzle on him to work on him so I am happy about that as long as he doesn't attack the muzzle that is good boy you're gonna wash your face okay good boy good boy Winnie and wash his face good boy good boy okay we're gonna rinse your face now turn turn good boy good boy Winnie before I totally towel dry him I'm going to try to take these gunks out of his eyes sniff good boy can you let me good boy good boy good boy so in the Pekingese video I used a towel to wipe this I didn't use water the reason for that is because the Pekingese was very triggered by the water this dog is not so because he's not I can rinse this out if he was triggered I wouldn't keep turning it on to rinse this because that would stress him out and that's not worth it good boy can I hold your chin good boy good boy rather than going in there with scissors because if I did that I'm going to be cutting really close to the skin now I don't have to worry about that because I took the eye gunks out first I will dry you now yeah so far I'm pretty happy with this dog um I don't see any major red flags or signs that he's going to be super aggressive obviously I haven't gotten to the haircut yet but I'm happy that I'm able to do this without him being aggressive so the owner said that sometimes he's okay with being picked up and sometimes he's not okay with being picked up so I am going to put this towel over him so that he can't see me and I'm gonna unclip him and now I'm going to pick him up I'm going to put on the happy hoodie good boy look at that very attractive underbite come here it's okay good boy and I'm going to dry him with the little dog High Velocity dryer will you let me wash I mean dry your head please I need to dry your head I'm gonna dry it with this one okay [Music] [Applause] okay so when I tried to move him he did growl at me for the first time so there's the first sign of him not liking grooming and he's growling again interesting smell okay it's just a brush are you gonna actually bite it we'll try like we did with the Pekingese so [Music] so like do you guys remember the Pekingese bit the equipment this dog is not biting the equipment he's snapping and growling but he's not actually doing anything about it so there's a good chance although I'm not going to take the chance that he wouldn't actually try to bite he's just trying to scare so so far you're all talk okay what if it's my hand is my hand allowed to touch you good boy no don't be mean hey don't be mean I am going to put gloves on just in case although I really don't think the gloves are gonna do much of anything for me but hey see no more brush no more brush so you're not a fan of the equipment but you were good for the bath and the dry that was very strange good boy good boy buddy good boy good boy good boy good boy no No shh okay so far so good I'm gonna try to bite it okay well then you get the muzzle and the Groomer's helper sir this is what happens don't be mean who's a good boy you're a good boy you want to go for a walk say words that get you excited you want to go for a walk you're going to go for a walk when you're done so he's on the Groomer's Helper and then I'm going to put this blue muzzle on him so I'm taking him down in a number four so you see as soon as he's put in the restraints he kind of just gave up which is exactly what we want as you saw with the Pekingese video restraints don't necessarily mean that a dog will just give up so this is good this is what we want okay I know you're not gonna like having this front leg done you're okay you're okay good boy don't pull good boy good boy you're okay good boy good boy it's okay I'm gonna try to switch muzzles to this black one although this black one is kind of small good boy I just don't like the way that this one is riding up on his face [Music] good boy Minnie that went really well very happy with that now I'm going to shave his groin and his bum which is something that I was told he does not like that's nasty it's okay it's okay good boy good boy good boy well again that went really really well so [Music] um I'm not too sure why this dog needs to be put under to be groomed but I guess we'll find out so now I'm going to do his paws and his nails I'm going to shave out his paw pads first just in case he gets very triggered by the nail clipping good boy good boy good boy Winnie it's okay it's okay there's a little bit of matting in here it's okay like how the thinners are grabbing and if it pulls a little bit he might not like it since he really doesn't like brushing it's okay no don't show me those teeth good boy good boy no no I'm gonna go for a walk yeah you're gonna go for a walk so you should be excited and not get upset because I am trimming your face because that's rude also you need you need your face trimmed no no we're not going to let you get away with rude Behavior it's unacceptable good boy look how good you're being you're gonna be so cute after and you're gonna go for a walk and you're gonna go for a car ride these words work really well on you what a good boy good boys get to go for walks good boys get to go for walks yes they do I actually I'm so incredibly disappointed that any groomer told the owners that you had to be put under to be groomed that is just ridiculous I'm Gonna Know no that's unnecessary it is unnecessary you were just being so good oh my God people are scared of you that's embarrassing foreign all I have to say is that I am extremely disappointed that any groomer was not able to complete this dog's groom he was nowhere near as difficult as let's say that Pekingese that I did which I could understand why a groomer wouldn't want to do that dog this dog is totally doable with the right technique and the right equipment and there's no reason that this dog needs to be put under anesthesia to be groomed so I will use this video to show future groomers so they can understand that Winnie is definitely a groomable dog and he did really well okay Winnie you gonna go for a real walk now all right good boy
