Let’s easily and quickly create a simple cinematic scene using the unreal sequencer This powerful tool allows you to create in-game cinematics with a specialized multi-track editor so you can dive deep into virtual production, game animations, and much more… Don’t worry, it's really easy, and as always, I recommend downloading a free pdf guide from the link in the description This way you will have all the information, values, and steps from this video in one place for future reference So Let’s start Just a quick setup To easily follow this tutorial it’s a good idea to have the same interface I use the default unreal engine interface If you want to have exactly the same interface go to window Load Layout And select the default editor layout Now Go file Click new level And choose basic To move around the editor hold down the right mouse button and use the W, A, S, and D keys to move just like in a standard FPS game. Go up and down with E & Q keys Save the level first in case it crashes Go to file, save the current level, name it, and hit save Let’s add one simple object to the scene Go green button Select shapes Cube Hit end on your keyboard to land cube on the floor Let me show you how to make a simple camera movement with an unreal sequencer Go to the top and select add level sequence Name it and save it Over here we will control our movie camera Don’t worry about all of this it’s not that complicated But first, we need to add a camera Go here and click the camera icon If you try to move around you can see that we are inside the camera This is excellent if you want to position the camera this way But, what if you want to move elements in the editor? You need to leave the camera control To do that click the camera icon next to the cine camera actor Or you can see over here the eject icon to leave the camera It’s the same Click it And you can see that we have our camera here and on the small window over here Now go back to the sequencer If you accidentally close the sequencer Just press CTRL + SPACE to open the content drawer and double-click the sequencer to open it back Sequencer works with key points Key Points are moments in time that we manipulate to create the movie But let me show you how easy is to do this Under cine camera actor make sure to select transform Let’s position the camera something like this With a cube in the center Now press this button to add the key at the current time Or hit ENTER on your keyboard You can see the red circle Now move the playhead somewhere over here And move the camera closer to the object Like this And hit ENTER to add a keyframe It’s important to move playhead and then move the camera, otherwise, it won’t work Hit this button to front to go to the start of the clip Make sure to check out these controls because they will allow you to see your movie clip in reverse, skip to a certain keyframe, and so on Just hit play or hit SPACE on your keyboard to play a clip You can see your movie animation in the camera view If you don’t see it, make sure to select the camera in the outliner Also, if you click on the playhead and move it you will see how the camera moves in the real-time But let’s say you want to make the camera faster or slower We can do this in two ways The first one is to move your keys apart from each other The longer the distance between keys the slower is playback And vice versa If closer the key points the faster the playback The second way is to add time dilation track To add it click the green plus button that says track And select time dilation track Over here select it and type in the number For example, 0.5 to make playback slower This way you don’t need to worry how far away are the key points of the sequencer To remove it, just RIGHT CLICK and select delete or hit DELETE on the keyboard Great One thing to mention is when we hit play nothing happens If you want your clip to start playing immediately, select the sequencer in the outliner And enable this autoplay If we now click the play button our clip will start right away You can play with loop, play rate, offset, and so on Let me show you now how to add more movement points and how to increase the duration of the video clip To add additional camera movement just move the playhead where you want And now select and move the camera You can rotate it by pressing E And uncheck this option so we can rotate smoothly without the camera snapping to the grid Make sure to add a key point Ok Now add one more but, as you can see, we have a problem We are at the end of the clip So to increase the duration just select it and drag it Double-click it to see it whole Also, select the red line and drag it to prevent the clip to end too early Move the playhead But now click this button to enter the camera And drive the camera far away from the object And hit ENTER but make sure that only transform is selected Ok Leave the camera and hit play to check out the clip Great Just to share one tip with you If you run into a problem and your camera is not smooth select the camera component Select manual focus distance Under the focus method select tracking And actor to track to be our cube or your custom actor This way the camera will focus your actor and make it smooth and focused The last thing to do is to export your video clip Click Render movie settings Over here choose the output format Resolution And make sure to use compression otherwise the file size will be very, very large Over here under the output directory select the folder where you want to save your video You can always play with all these settings to change frame rate, format, and so on And when you are ready just click capture movie and Unreal will start capturing the movie And click open folder to check out your final product If you like this kind of simple tutorial you can check my other videos on materials, PCG, environment, or lightning They are all the same, aimed at beginners, and cover everything step by step Drop some comments below or subscribe to get notified about a new tutorial every week and be sure to take it slow, don’t worry, and keep learning because the Unreal engine is awesome See ya in some other video, bye-bye.
