♪ Feeling feeling feeling ♪ Live from New York City, it's the "Wendy Williams Show." ♪ Oh yeah ♪ ♪ Feeling feeling feeling ♪ ♪ Tell me how you feeling ♪ ♪ When we feeling how we feeling ♪ ♪ And we feeling when we feeling here we go ♪ ♪ Feeling and feeling and feeling like that ♪ How you doin', Wendy? Let's go! Now here's Wendy! (upbeat music) (audience vocalizes) ♪ How you doin' ♪ Thank you for watching our show. Say hello to my co-host staffer studio audience. (audience applauds) The virtuals at home are not to be forgotten. How you doin'? How you doin'? I'm doin' okay. Let's get started. It's time for "Hot Topics." (audience applauds and cheers) (upbeat music) (audience applauds and cheers) Michael Lee, my brilliant art director. There he is right there. Yes, Michael Lee, I will have you know that I read your Michael Lee Vuitton. I wore that today and the paparazzi, not one, but two of them were outside of my apartment. (audience laughs) And there we go. There we go. There we go. (audience applauds and cheers) That's it. That's it. (audience laughs) We were doing something, what was that last season? Was that this season? This season. Okay, well, we were playing around with like creative stuff and this Louis Vuittonesque jacket is available at Louis Vuitton for $7,500. And I was asked, would I get that? I said, no, but I would take it as a gift. And then the next thing you know Michael Lee stood up and I swear, I thought that I didn't think you made it. I honestly thought that the show bought it, of which I was gonna return it. (audience laughs) You could only wear something like this like once a season and then put it away for many, many years and then pull it out when you're 80, walk it around. Oh, yeah. Right? (woman laughs) Good morning, paparazzi. That's a good one. (audience applauds and cheers) And by the way, I do hang that on a wall in my apartment. Yes, it's art. I do not fold that up and put it away someplace, no. (audience applauds) So Janet Jackson may finally be getting the justice, the poetic justice she deserves. (audience applauds and cheers) See, the New York Times is making a documentary about the 2004 Super Bowl debacle. It's gonna focus on how Janet's career suffered and Justin's flourished. And so, I was asked in our morning meeting, do I think that Janet's career suffered? Yes. You know, Justin went to apologize to Viacom, who runs everything apparently. And so, his career flourished Janet refused to apologize on account of she knows what really went down. So what we found out that went down was the stylist, who's doing all the talking now, her stylist, Janet's stylist recently spoke out and said it was planned. Justin wanted a moment like Madonna and Britney Spears, the kiss. Yeah, uh huh, uh huh. So he thought by exposing Janet's breast, at first it was expose Janet in a pearl thong, which we've all learned from Samantha (audience laughs and applauds) that they can be quite uncomfortable. Anyway, so the stylist says it was planned and you know what, and her career did suffer. I mean, she didn't apologize to Viacom, so Viacom dropped her from everything that Viacom owns, which is virtually every radio station. No one was playing Janet music. There were no Janet billboards, no Janet commercials, no Janet nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing. Do I have this correct? Yep. You do. And that's VH1, BET, MTV, that's all Viacom. So that's all the channels. And the radio station. And the radio, all the Viacom radio stations. A tragedy. Well, no, because she ended up meeting her, well, now ex-husband. They seemed to have something going on for a moment there. Yeah. Yeah. And then they have the baby. Asa. And now, and now she's back. She gained a bit of weight while she was over there. But she sharpened all that as Jackson should. She sharpened all that and made it right, tight. And she's still talented. (audience applauds and cheers) She doesn't have to make new music. Just perform the same old music. Okay, so this documentary is not sanctioned by Janet, so I'm sure she won't be appearing in it. Do we have the stylist? They're still like making it. No, the stylist I heard this morning in our hot topics. Like a picture of the stylist? Do we have him talking about it? No, no, it was like a print interview. Oh, okay. Yeah. Do we have a picture of the stylist? We do. Okay. I think we do. I know we did. There we go. Oh, quite interesting. Well, there's no air date yet, but I will remind you because I'm sure we're gonna wanna watch together. (audience applauds and cheers) So (scoffs) Tristan Thompson may have cheated on Khloe again. (audience vocalizes) Okay, recently on this thing called the "No Jumper" podcast a woman named Sydney claimed that she slept with Tristan in January after he told her that she's single. Take a look. So we hung out. Everything was cool. We were all like, we were fine, blah, blah, blah. And I literally said, are you single? Yes. Okay. We can talk. We talked, we hung out multiple times. It happened. Let me hear that. And then I found out that he was not single and I cut him off. Sounds believable. Absolutely. That sounds pretty believable. And she probably cut him off because then she looked to see, "Oh, wait, he's still with Khloe, "or they're back and forth all the time, "and the Kardashians have more weight "in Hollywood than I do. "Let me just back off this right now. "He gave me points by now being with him." Now she's on "Hot Topics," right? Welcome, Sydney. Welcome, Sydney to "Hot Topics." (audience applauds) Poof! See, my thing is that I just wish that Khloe would just leave him alone. Just co-parent and leave him alone. She's gonna spend the rest of her life worrying. Every time he goes out of town for a game, worrying. She's not gonna live in Boston with him worrying. Every time they're together and he wants to get up and goes to the bathroom with his cell phone, worrying. It's not worth it. Well, good luck, Khloe over there. (audience applauds) So speaking of Khloe, Lamar is dating that "Love and Hip Hop" star, Karlie Redd. Ooh! Well, they're age approprishness. He's 40. He is 41. He's 41, and she's 47, eight, nine, 50. She doesn't tell her age. (audience laughs) But she's got a daughter. They look like sisters, two beautiful girls, but look yup, that's the daughter, mm-hmm. Now here's the thing. These two were first seen together celebrating Yandy's birthday and there's Mendeecees. Yeah, that's the birthday. So they're celebrating, they're together. Listen, this could all be like a stunt. I don't think either one of them should get too invested in this. Like, you know, Karlie Redd. I mean, you have an MO, who's Benzino. It was Young Jock. And let's not forget Ceaser from the Black Ink Crew. And that's just who we know of. So as soon as Lamb really does tell her, look, I've got no money for all this. You know what I mean? And she'll get enough pictures clicked with him 'cause Lamb upgrades her. I said, but Norman said, wait a minute. Wait a minute. What makes anyone think that they're not in the same-- League? Grade, yeah. Because Lamar has a bonafide talent. He's a world-class basketball player, now retired. (audience applauds) Okay. I mean, to the best of my ability, Cardi Redd, no disrespect Cardi, but you look like all the other girls on reality TV. That's not a bonafide talent. That's a good surgeon. (audience hoops and hollers) (man laughs) And Lamar, I think if you go on "Love and Hip Hop," which is where Cardi is, that's beneath you. I don't think you should do "Love and Hip Hop." I think that you should watch your money very carefully. And by the way, on June 12th, I'm going to the pre-fight. Okay, 'cause the pre-fight is featuring, oh wait. So here's Aaron Carter giving Lamar a tastes of what's about to happen. Lamar's laughing like, "Oh no." Either he's saving all of his strength to knock Aaron out or Aaron really does have a chance. Okay, but look, I'm going for the pre-fight too. I'm gonna be in Atlantic City all day. Look, look, the pre-fight is with this guy Sisqó. He's a terrible man, but he's very good looking. (audience laughs) He comes off as terrible. Yeah, he was part of the creep squad. The creep squad. Exactly. Right. But he's a nice looking man. And then our friend Peter Gunz, they fight in the ring. So I have got to be there for that. And then Lamar will be there. I guess Cardi Redd will be backstage checking out the other men. (co-host laughs) Anyway, I'm going. (audience applauds) Even though I don't care about the Oscars, I didn't watch. I only the clips from the next morning. I'm surprised that this was the lowest Oscar rating in history in the history of the Oscars. Less than 10 million people watched. And you know, I honestly thought that people would be really engaged to wanna watch this just because the commercials looked really good. You know, they had a few people performing and stuff and just I'm shocked. People really didn't watch. Well, there was no host. The films that were nominated weren't popular. Father. (audience laughs) "The Father," who's seen "The Father?" I have! (Wendy and co-host laugh) I'm the only one. (audience laughs) All right, so people think that Zac Efron has gotten plastic surgery. Now come on, you all, are you jealous 'cause he's just a naturally good looking man? Well, you know what? I wouldn't be surprised, because he's competing in Hollywood, If he got a little Botox and a little jaw. But you know, a little filler, but I have to tell you this, seeing him up close, remember we acted in a movie together. Oh, there we are. (audience vocalizes) Oh yeah! I have to tell you (audience applauds) he's just a really, really good looking. He stunning, stunning. Like it's beyond the eyes. It's the eyebrows are nice and thick and just all this and the good hair. And I don't think he looks any different. How long ago was this picture taken over here? I think that's from couple of years ago when he was blond. Okay, and so what? And yeah, I mean like maybe the jaw is a little different. Well, excuse me, he was a boy there. Boys have to grow into their jaws. (woman laughs) (Wendy laughs) I don't know, Zac, you're beautiful to me. And they're all jealous. (audience applauds) By the way, he's also single. Well, he broke up with his girlfriend, Vanessa. Now they've been dating for about 10 months, but they had been living together in Australia while he's working, and pandemic's going on and she wants to be a reality star on a reality show based in Australia. So friends are saying that Zac broke up with her because he is gonna be busy for the rest of the year. Like this year into next year, he's doing movie after movie, and you know, all around the world. And he also didn't want to pay for the upkeep of this house that he in Vanessa were living in in Australia, you know? That makes sense. Yeah. I mean, he rocked her gently to sleep, and she still has a shot at this Australian reality show. I mean, you were with him for 10 months. I'm sure you guys got paparazzi more than a few times. You know, that's some sort of cache for a reality show. It's bad when your man is more beautiful than you though. (audience laughs) I mean, she's, she's a pretty girl, but do you see he out pretties her? He's out prettying her. (audience laughs) It's a lot of pressure. Oh, Vanessa, look, it's for the best. Good luck with your life. (audience applauds) So last night on "Couples Retreat," Yandy and Mendeecees, they're getting adjusted to life again now that he's not in prison anymore for running a bad drugs, FBI sting operation. I feel like from Rochester. From Rochester. Yeah, to New York. To New York. Back and forth. Back and forth, back, he was the mule for the worst drugs, and all that. Uh huh, cocaine and yeah, et cetera. I know, I know. Well, guess what? First of all, she held him down and his child, apart from him. They have two together, and then there's a third one. He also visited with her mother when she had time in her schedule. She kept the house clean and kept paychecks on the table. Your commissary pilin'. So now here he goes. He reveals that if she was the one who went to jail, he wouldn't have stuck around. (audience groans) Take a look. If the roles were reversed, would you hold me down? (dramatic music) If the shoe's is on the other foot, you know, I don't know what I will be able to do. Hm, and that's a problem. So Mendeecees finally admitted that he doesn't know if he would have stayed if the roles were reversed, and that's so hurtful because people have said to me, "You're doing all this. "Would he do that for you?" And I've always combat at it with, "Yeah, he would, we love each other." But to hear him sit in my face and be like, "I don't know." Listen, I'm telling you the truth. Like that's so unfair. (dramatic music) (audience groans) This is the most hurtful thing that he could possibly say to her or that any man could say to any woman. I mean, the way the streets are these days, anybody can be arrested for any given thing. And you would wanna know that if you were with somebody, especially if it's my husband. I'm the mother of his two kids. He shoulda lied. See, see, this is where a lie is good. You know, you coulda lied and said, "Of course, I'd hold you down," knowing that we know that she's not up to any bad activity that were to get her arrested. So you would never even have to exercise that lie card because she's not going to prison. You know what, Yandy, if you don't leave this man all the way alone. I mean, Norman? I like them together. You know this, I liked them. Well, he's no Papoose. He's no Papoose. Papoose held Remy down. Okay. Yeah. (audience applauds) You liked him as a couple, but he's wrong for that. Just lie. Just lie. Just lie. Yeah, no one's ever gonna know. No, the worst. Okay, the first pictures of Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball have been leaked and people are complaining 'cause Nicole looks nothing like Lucy. Well, no, she doesn't. She dyed her hair red, and that looks like an over plumped Nicole Kidman, doesn't it? Like she's trying to escape the old Nicole or something. Okay, so she plays Lucy and then Javier Bardem, he plays Desi Arnaz, and he looks nothing like Desi either. (woman laughs) I think that for this particular movie, they would be better off casting unknowns, just so that the story can breathe. And we could really understand 'cause it's called like "A Week with Desi and Lucy" or something like that. A week in their lives, which that's behind the scenes, not the actors acting on TV, but the real truth story for one week. And you know, the amount of parties. She smoked like a chimney. Yeah, everybody had alcohol situations. Desi's running around town. She's pacing back and forth. And I heard she was tough as nails in real life. You know what I mean? So pacing back and forth, probably breaking vases and stuff. Yeah. Driving with no seatbelt and a flask in the cup holder. (audience laughs) She was good in "Bewitched" though, that Nicole Kidman. She was good in "Bewitched," but I think that our tolerance has changed. We've become so critical of everything on TV, but she was good as Samantha on "Bewitched," she really was. Is this the same company? No, this company. Yeah, it's Aaron Sorkin who's doing this. Right, Aaron Sorkin. The one who tried to smuggle crack? Who pulled a Juelz Santana. Correct, he pulled a Juelz Santana at the airport. He's the creator of "The West Wing" and "Newsroom" and "The Social Network" and all those amazing. What, does that make him better? No, I'm just saying that's what he does. All right, so he's creating this Lucy movie. Well, maybe there's a chance, right? He knows how to tell a good story. Yeah. Okay, guess what? We've got more great show for you, everybody. (audience applauds and cheers) Up next, singer Syleena Johnson is here. So grab a snack and come on back. Come on back! (upbeat music) Please welcome Syleena Johnson. (audience applauds and cheers) Yay! (upbeat music) How are you? Thank you for actually coming to the studio. Thank you for having me. I mean, I had to have an excuse to wear some clothes and shoes. Yeah. Are you still based in Chicago? No, I live in Atlanta now. Wow, so you here for the rest of the week or you doing other stuff? Yeah, I'm doing some other things. I'm gonna see a dermatologist that I love here. Her name is Dr. Dele-Michael, and just hanging out with some friends and stuff. Fun. You know, New York is always fun. Did you bring the kids? I did not bring the kids. They're being homeschooled. And your husband? My husband is working. In Atlanta? In Atlanta. Wow, you're gonna have a great time here. I know. (laughs and claps) So I wanna give you Shoe Cam. Okay. I'm a little confused. What all's going on? Well, I'm getting a very, let me put my feet down. I'm giving a dominatrix tease today. Okay. Okay, it's got like a, well, I don't wanna be... A chaps? It's got like, yes. Okay. It comes all the way up and its belt around. My stylist, Robbin Mykia, she's very young. Yeah. Yeah, 'cause I wouldn'tve picked this. Yes. (women laugh) A contraption, it's just... So we go back to "R&B Divas" where I hosted you guys' reunion. Do you miss reality TV? No, I'm gonna say no in that capacity. I feel like reality TV can be really awesome. It can be really dope if it's produced properly. I think in that instance I thought it was gonna be one thing, and then it ended up being something else. You thought all you girls were gonna be friends and exchange information and stuff like that. Yup, I thought we were gonna hang out and our kids were gonna play together, and it was gonna be awesome. Awe. Yeah. Well, it's okay, you still got the voice. Well, thank you very much. I mean, you've been singing for like 20 years All my life. (audience applauds) And is it true that DMX kinda discovered you? Well, he didn't discover me, but it was very early on. I heard he was in Chicago recording his album, and I was huge fan of him, right? So I was like, well, I'm going to find him 'cause I need to be on this album. You know? (laughs) And so I heard that he was at the House of Blues, and so I get all dressed up, you know, dolled up. And I knew the guy who was security on the backstage. And so, I was like, I'm supposed to meet him back here, you know, so he let me in, and he comes in and I'm like, "Yeah, I'm Syleena Johnson." You know, "I heard you in town. "I heard you were looking for me. And he was like, "Looking for you?" Like he don't know where I was. And I was trying to explain, I was just like, "I'm supposed to be on your album." He's like, "Okay, well, come on, "let's go back to the studio." So long story short, he's in the studio. He's like, "All right, we're gonna put your money "where your mouth is." Okay. So I'm sitting there, I'm in the studio, it's smoke-filled, and I'm just sitting there. And I went back to the hotel, changed into glasses and a ponytail and 'cause I wanted them to take me seriously. Right. You know? 'Cause I had on a cat suit previously. So I wanted them to take me seriously. And he turns around and he's like, "Yeah, I need it to be soulful. "Can you sing soulful?" And so, I was like, "You know, I think I can." And he was like, "Well, do you want me to go in the booth "and help you out?" I said, "Yeah, you should come in the booth "and help me out." And so I put on my earphones, he's standing next to me, he's like, "Okay, these are the words." Now were you hitting on him at this point? I was not. Was he hitting on you? He was not, which was really interesting. It was a first for men in our industry, you know? Yeah, yeah, He was a gentleman. He was a sweetheart. He respected your things. So then what happened? And your connection with Robert. Yes. Interesting. So talk about your "Unsung." Okay, the "Unsung," I think they did a really good job with it. I think they got as much stuff as they could get in, you know, with the time that they had, but it was really nice to be able to watch, just sit here, 20 something years after doing this and just watch all of the different elements flashed in front of my face. Wow. So it was an emotional moment for me. My first album, "Chapter One: Love, Pain and Forgiveness" will be 20 years old May 1st. Wow. Tell me about your relationship with R. Kelly. You know, Robert, he was a friend to me, and he was like a big brother, and Wayne Williams our A&R guy. So he introduced me to Robert, and it was always very much like I wanna learn, very student teacher. You were on Jive, and he was on Jive Records as well, but he was the king of Jive. He was the King of Jive, of the R&B department. Okay. Yes, because that's a very different dynamic at Jive Records. There was pop, which was Britney Spears, 'NSYNC, Backstreet Boys. And then there was the R&B, which was Mystical, myself, R. Kelly, Joe, and some other R&B artists. City High was on there, some other R&B artists. And you know, the African-Americans. What are your thoughts about his allegations? I think they're awful. I think they're awful. As a woman, I can't think of anything other than that, but I do feel like hurt people hurt people. Yeah. So there has to be something that has happened to him in his life that has caused him to be this way. Yes. Yeah. And so, you know, people don't really go there 'cause they're very focused on, he did and he did, and he did, and he's suffering, and he's paying for it. But somebody did something to him too. Yeah, how do you keep your marriage together? Well, first of all, where did you meet your husband? 13 years married. Yes. He was a former NFL player? No, NBA. NBA player. Former NBA player. How tall is he? He's six-two and a half. How tall are you? He's short. I'm five-10. Well, so how did you meet him? Well, it was like a blind date set up, you know? A friend of mine worked with his cousins and they saw a picture of me on my cousins', well, they're my cousins now. But his cousin's computer, twins, Rashid and Delila, and he was like, "Oh, that's my girl, Syleena Johnson." He was like, "Oh, he loves Syleena. "He loves Syleena." And so, he was like, "Well, I could call her right now." So he calls, they call me like, "Yeah, so we wanna hook you up with this guy. His name is Kiwane Garris. And he was an athlete, you know? He was playing overseas at the time. And I was just like, (sighs). Here we go. Again, like athletes are a fool. Yeah. So I just was like... But a couple of kids later and all these years and the one thing, I'm sure as a woman, keeps you so grounded after hustling and singing, and you're on "Cocktails with Queens." Yes. (audience applauds) You have a new album out. Yes. How many albums have you had out in your career? (sighs) Wendy, man, I think it's 12, 12 or 13. I think this is 13, "Making of a Woman." So what's on it? So "Making of a Woman" album is a compilation of records that speak from a woman's point of view. And so, I got the inspiration from working on "Sister Circle." Being on "Sister Circle" was a total flip side of what I am as an artist. So I had to get on the other side of the couch and I had do research. And in that process, I learned about so many of the different things that women, especially black women, were having to deal with and the inadequacies and, you know, the inequality and all the things we had to deal with. So I felt like as an artist, we need to speak up, use our platforms, use our gifts to say things. And so the "Woman" album was first. And then now the "Making of a Woman" came after the pandemic. You're a good one. Thank you so much for being here. First of all, Syleena has got her "Unsung." It airs Sunday nights at 9:00 on TVOne. Up next, "Celebrity Fan Out." (upbeat music) All right, so Chelsea is in Poland. How are you doin', Chelsea? How you doin', Wendy? Fine, thanks. Okay, Wendy, I have a question for you. So there are a few people at my job that wanna be friends with me on social media, but they've never tried to get to know me in real life, despite the fact that we see each other every single day. So that can make things awkward when they can see everything I did over the weekend, but won't even chat about it Monday morning, for example. So my question is, how do you think I should handle this? Should I call them out or perhaps try to get to know them a little better? Or maybe just ignore the whole situation? Ignore the whole situation, say nothing to them because then you'll look like a snob. You know, a lot of people don't understand the real Chelsea is different than what a picture captures on a weekend trip or something like that. I agree with you. You know, work is for work.
