TOP 20 ODD METER SONGS OF ALL TIME

everybody i'm rick biatto and today's everything music we're going to count down my top 20 odd meter songs of all time when i say odd meter i mean meters like 5 8 7 8 27 4. an odd meter is a meter that combines simple and compound beats together let's say you have five eight time signature that would be a quarter note and a dotted quarter note combined but you would count it in groups of threes and twos so it could be one two one two three one two one two three one two one two three or it could be one two three one two one two three one two one two three one two the simple part of the b are the two eighth notes which equal a quarter note the compound part are the three eighth notes which equal a dotted quarter note coming in at number 20 is a song from this band's 2012 release entitled the second law [Music] song number 19 is off this band's 1994 release entitled purple the chorus is in nine and it's one of the most natural sounding nines i've ever heard let's check it out [Music] when you wake in the morning when you find that there's no one sleeping gone pretty penny was her name she was coming to number 18 is the song that i used to cover in my old high school rock band we actually covered the song that comes before it that goes like this and then we covered this [Music] song number 17 is off this man's 1994 release it's the first track on the record i love playing along with it too [Music] coming in at number 16 this song i actually can't play on here otherwise the video would get blocked i know it's ridiculous but i'm gonna have to play this one which happens to be in seven four and you probably don't even realize it and it goes like this [Music] love love [Music] song number 15 i had on my top 20 acoustic intros of all time actually the biggest video on my channel and it's in seven as well check it out [Applause] coming in at number 14 is a song that's called seven days except the song is actually in five eight [Music] song number 13 is off this band's only album and it was released in 1991 but it's a classic here it is [Music] help me [Music] 12 is off a record called duke and the cool thing about this is that it alternates between six and between four and seven [Applause] [Music] [Music] song number eight is from a record that is one of the greatest progressive rock records ever released and it features bill bruford on the drums and alan holdsworth on the guitar it came out in 1978 [Music] song number seven is actually in six four time but to me this sounds like an odd time signature there's something about six because it's unpredictable when it turns around that makes it sound like it's in an odd meter [Music] is [Music] coming into number six this is one of my favorite songs by this band who just lost their drummer recently and this main part is in seven check it out [Music] okay now we're down to the top five really as i always say in these videos any of these songs could be number one this is just arbitrary in a way this is one of my favorite odd time songs by one of my favorite bands this actually happens to be in 11. let's check it out [Applause] [Music] coming in at number four this is a song that's almost impossible to count and the drums are being played by the great vinnie call judah it's off frank zappa's joe's garage record and i'm gonna bring my friend jack jones in to count it for you 1916 that is a bar of four four plus three sixteenth notes pretty tricky [Music] a good man miraculously song number three is one of my favorite and heaviest odd time songs and it starts out like this coming in at number two you knew this band was going to be on the list you've been waiting around and you're saying where is it you know it's going to be up here well this particular song is one of their biggest songs and this section is a classic odd time section check it out [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] coming in at number one i'm not sure that i can actually play the song without the video getting blocked or not that actually is the case for a couple of these songs so you might have something cut out of here but this one i'm just going to play the bass line because you know what obvious song that's in an odd time signature i thought of as many of them as i could and i tried to find songs that are classic songs with a couple exceptions that are songs i think you should really
