hey everybody I'm rápido on today's everything music it's the top 20 vocal intros of all time now I've done the top 20 acoustic guitar intros electric guitar intro space intros keyboard intros but I saved this one for last and I'll tell you why because there's not a lot of really great vocal intros there's actually not a lot of vocal intros period meaning that vocals acapella or by themselves so I had to search through the last 50 years of music to come up with a great list what I think is a great list and I gave more weight to intros that had really great harmony arrangements now some of the intros are single voice and some of them are gang vocals singing the same line in unison so essentially a single voice and there's a couple of them that have just the most minuscule amount of instrumentation maybe a little guitar or eating a chord or a little keyboard but for the most part there are also solo vocal parts now I'm going to try and experiment on this episode I'm gonna place some blockers music and see if they actually get through I'm just very curious because in the past the videos have been taken down immediately so this is kind of an experiment to see about whether I can use these artists music for what makes this song great in the future coming in at number 20 the song was the number one single in 1986 and I'm friends with a couple of the guys that are in the band now let's check it out [Music] [Applause] [Music] song number 19 was the b-side to a number one hit which was released in 1967 the lead singer is one of the most eclectic singers of all time here it is the door for you slip into coming in at number 18 is a song that could be my favorite on the entire list but it only has one word alone in the intro here it is hey [Music] song number 17 was a cover of a song that had come out the same year written by Hoyt Axton it's by this three-piece group whose record was entitled harmony check it out well enough of it to Spain but music coming in at number 16 is a 1973 number-one hit by this female soul singer here it is strumming my pain with his fingers singing my life with his word it's killing me softly with his song killing me softly with his song telling my own life with his words song number 15 was released in 1971 and is one of the greatest R&B songs and intros of all time check it out okay so I just uploaded the video unlisted and as I predicted the video got blocked what I didn't predict is that it was blocked because of Bill Withers who knew that Bill Withers was a blocker so my friend Jam happened to be visiting and jams says that she's not a singer but I convinced her to come and sing this anyways actually Jim is really a singer so we're gonna do this ain't no sunshine when she it's now own wind she's own ain't no sunshine when she's gone she's always gone too long anytime she goes we song number 14 has been recorded over two hundred and fifty times this particular version came out in 1956 and is ranked number 19 on Rolling Stones top 500 songs of all time [Music] Zonk number 13 is an iconic intro when you think of vocal intros you think of this song the only thing about it that brings it a little bit down the list is that there is a little bit of guitar on its own before that starts so I'm number 12 was released in 1985 it's off a record entitled little creatures and it's the first song on the list that's all harmonized acapella vocals check it out well song number 11 was released in 1965 and ended up being a number two song if it hadn't been for the number one song we can work it out it would have been a number one song song number 10 was released in 1977 and is from an incredible British progressive rock band check out this live version how great the singing is let me bring your songs from the world down from tip to toe that's two different tips to show you how the garden grows as you go as you join the cholera Sam you can coming in at number nine is a band whose name I dare not mention on YouTube because they are the biggest blockers out there but their harmony singing is undeniable and this intro is ridiculous [Music] song number 8 when you're doing a video like this greatest vocal interest of all time is one of the first things that comes to your mind check it out song number 7 was a hit song during my junior year of high school and it's by an Australian band that many of you may not even know anymore let's check it out song number 6 was written by the guitarist of this band and is featured on the 1978 release jazz here it is ok now we're down to the top 5 and every other countdown video I always say well once we're in the top 5 any of the songs are really interchangeable any of them could be number one and I believe that about this video is well the thing that's in common with all of these songs that are in the top 5 is that they're all heavily harmonized they all have incredibly good singing and when you think about making a list like this they're the first songs that pop into your mind coming in at number 5 is a song that was the fourth track of this band's 1965 release Rubber Soul checkout track number four this is a live version of the intro and it's ridiculous how good the singing is [Music] okay song number three a lot of people that I've talked to I always call my friends when I'm doing these lists and get their opinion a lot of them thought this actually should be number one it was it was the song that they all thought oh well that's that's should be number one and I thought yeah I could see an argument for that this really could be number one this is one of the most iconic intros ever check it out [Applause] [Music] song number two I thought about making some number one and I'll tell you why it's because the complexity of this harmony part and the overlays the way the voices interlock how they layer is really remarkable and the harmony singing is just fantastic coming in at number two [Applause] [Music] okay most of you already know what number one is it's kind of like when I did the acoustic guitar intro video and it got to the last one and everyone because of what had been before said okay stairway is going to be it well this isn't Led Zeppelin but you know what this one is going to be coming in at number one for the greatest vocal intro of all time is okay before I end the video I want to talk a little bit about why I chose these songs that many of which were in the 60s and 70s one was actually in the 50s the Elvis tune and the reason is it's because it's music history now I could have chosen last-resort by Papa Roach or duality by Slipknot or contemporary songs like that does not even even even contemporary actually those are twenty years old for the most part but these songs have historic importance and it's what led us up to today from the Bill Withers and Roberta Flack soul and R&B to the to the Beatles and Queen this is really what led to today's music even if you're thinking about EDM music the whole idea of vocal layering and top line writing and or if you're talking about hip hop these things all started with early rock and roll and blues gospel R&B that's all
