hey everybody I'm Rick pianon today's Everything music we're going to count down the top 20 one-hit wonders of the 70s I initially had a lot of these right off the top of my head and then of course I called my brother John call some of my other friends just to see if there's anything I forgot Billy came in he said oh what about this song so added a couple took a couple off but these are really songs that I like there's many other one-hit wonders that happened during the 70s but this is kind of a list that I think is a really cool list coming in at number 20 this song as a killer guitar riff and I'm sure you all know it [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] smoking song number 19 is actually a cover of a Lead Belly song you'll know this because it has a killer guitar riff too [Music] thank you foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] coming in at number 18 this song was one of the first songs I thought of for the list it's by the band Looking Glass you definitely know this one hear your eyes [Music] song number 17 was released in 1970 barely made the list here but it's definitely one that you'll know keep things alive Japan [Music] [Music] song number 16 came out in 1975 it's by the English band Foghat you know it [Music] [Applause] [Music] song number 15 is is a song that I always joked with my brother John well this is actually only a hit song in Rochester I talked to my buddy Jason who's from Detroit today and he's like are you kidding me that song is that song was a huge hit song I'm not sure about this actually but it was at least around the Great Lakes a huge hit song and it's a great song it's by the band Head East check it out able to cry there's never been any reason never telling me [Music] song number 14 is by stealer's wheel now you're like well who's that well you definitely know this song [Music] with you but I'm Stuck In The Middle With You coming in at 13 this song is also another song that came to mind when I was first thinking up the list this is by Starland Vocal Band you know this one too [Music] time looking forward to touch your newly life together make it make them sick night and the thought of loving you is getting so exciting skyrockets in Flight Afternoon Delight [Music] kind of a weird chorus actually song number 12 came out in 1973. it's one of my favorites on this list and once again it's another one that immediately comes to mind when I think of one hit wonders of the 70s great song Everywhere think of me and I'll be there just Seasons out of time goodbye Papa please pray for me such a weird part I was the black sheep of the family you tried to teach me right from wrong once again this is a really psychedelic song very very 70s song number 11 has a killer cowbell part that starts right at the beginning also as one of the best heaviest guitar sounds [Music] all right [Music] [Applause] [Music] Mississippi Queen Mississippi Queen she taught me everything okay now we're down to the top ten song number 10 is by an organist named Rod Argent this is a song that I like to come back and listen to because it has a completely weird long organ Solo in it if you actually listen to the full-length version of it I mean very weird and it's a killer song listen [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] song number nine has a really interesting story behind it it's by the band Wild Cherry so in 1976 they were a hard rock cover band but in order to get more bookings the promoter said you need to start adding some more dance songs to your thing now they didn't do any dance songs so they were playing it at a at a predominantly black Club in Pittsburgh and on their break somebody came up to them and said are you gonna play some funky music white boys the guy literally wrote the song on the spot wrote the lyrics on the spot you know what it is [Music] [Music] play that [ __ ] music white boy [Music] what's cool about this song is it's actually a rock song when it starts coming in at number eight this song was actually first released in the early 70s by its author Bruce Springsteen but became a huge hit when this band did their completely different cover of it in 1976. foreign [Music] [Music] now that's one of the most misheard lyrics of all time I'm gonna do a video on that eventually song number seven I debated whether to put it on this list because the lead singer here is was actually in the band traffic and they're in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame so you're like well how can they be a one-hit wonder well this is from one of his solo records and this is really his one big hit as a solo artist but it was a really big hit check it out [Music] and away haven't seen you in a while [Music] have you been have you changed your style and do you think I love this friendly [Music] great vocals [Music] come in at number six this song is also one of the first songs that came to mind this is one of my favorite songs on the list it's a really really sad song it's by Dave Loggins not by Kenny Loggins but by Dave Loggins [Music] Please Come to Boston she said no would you come home to me and she said a round [Music] lost an angel kind of town ain't no golden there ain't nobody I love this right here I'm the number one fan of the man from Tennessee oh [Music] I love it at the very end of the song when he goes up high listen Tennessee we're here number one fan okay now we're down to the top five as I always say any of these songs could really be number one these songs are really kind of important songs this one in particular is um is important because this is like late 70s 79 really still an important song [Music] coming in at number four this song was really the kind of basis for 80s synth pop and a lot of people think this came out in the 80s but it actually came out in 1979 Just Like My Sharona this is one of my favorite songs in the list too class [Applause] love that [Music] Gary Newman [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] song number three is an absolutely beautiful song it's by Johnny Nash it's as good today as it ever was foreign [Music] song number two came out in 1970 it's off the record called fire and water and features the great Paul Rogers on vocals and Paul kossoff on guitar you know this one foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right now baby [Music] and coming in at number one this song is by the band Mott the Hoople but actually it was written and produced by David Bowie and it has one of the greatest choruses of all time listen yes [Applause] [Music] I love that [Applause] [Music] everyone speak so that's my list of the top 20 one-hit wonders of the 70s let me know what you think of it if there's ones that I forgot put them in the comments section if you
