[Music] the voice of the people [Music] good afternoon everybody i'm tom vassell i'm mike delicious z garcia and today representing you the people wendy all right the people the people have spoken they have spoken if you're just tuning in for the first time and wondering what we're doing we're talking about our top 100 favorite board games of all time something we do once a year and we also have you vote on it and i know every year people like i would have voted but you did it but you can this year look for the in december yeah yeah you have a few months to wait don't you worry you're gonna forget again aren't you here's one way you can remember join our mailing list digest.com and we send it out usually every other week sometimes a week or two off of that but we're not going to give your email address anyone else because i hate when people do that and what it just tells you what's going on yep that's the way to do it alrighty i apologize i was about to do some sort of cutting remark and i lost it okay it just sounds like you're apologizing you need to apologize again i got you should not tell people that my wife you should not tell your woman you look fine no i don't want mine oh no don't even get me started on this don't say it like that you're okay then yeah don't even get me started the whole list of things you're also not supposed to say cute cute is not good either oh i'm okay with you you're not supposed to tell your significant other they're cute no mike that's that's uh that's no no i'm telling you because you're wrong no no don't this argument is not with me sir this argument is with my wife if you want to have this argument with her i will happily i will have the right thank you for the super chat job hey you look cute today no no all right we're getting way off topic here let's get started with number 80. [Music] all right my number 80 is a remarkably cute game it uh one might say one might say adorable um my number 80 is a cooperative game that actually was put onto my radar by one mr z garcia that's how i do it so this was not on your list last year uh no it was but it moved um down 23 points um it was after you recommended it correct this might be too hot this is atlanta's rising second edition i i still very much enjoy this game i think it is a cooperative game that does a lot of things very well there is a high amount of the amount of die rolling might make you feel like there's not as much agency as in other cooperative games but i don't think that's necessarily true i think that you there are plenty of ways to mitigate it um it just feels a little more exciting i think because of the die rolling so it's it's it's basically the idea is that you are trying to uh escape through this magical portal before atlantis the the island of atlantis no it is a scientific portal 100 there's no scientific they built it that's the whole point of the game they're building this thing for science science so you're saying that science is not magic is what you're saying i very much am saying anybody who's interested in science this is going to take away your points this is horror this is horrible and lattice rising is a very very solid cooperative game i still enjoy quite a bit it's moved down a little bit much enjoyed the super chat telling mike that he's cute thank you um that was my yogi anyway i really enjoy atlanta's rising it's gone down a little bit only probably because i've played so many more cooperative games within the last year that it's just gonna kind of i thought i saw you playing it this year though oh i did no i still very much enjoy it um it's in my top 100 so rising second edition all right my number 80 is a new game to the list a two-player game that i believe was on my top 10 games of the year that we recently put out a game called botanic oh botanic has a fantastic cute some some dare say is it cover is it science or fantasy this is definitely or magic physically i hate this company so much terrible cover well the game during the game you don't use the cover that's awesome no the game looks fine it's not a negative should make you feel good about it yeah it's a tile laying tile drafting game where you're making connections and scoring victory points pretty simple straightforward game nice components very quick playing game um i like that this game feels kind of small it's kind of a slight game there's not a sprawling game by any means even when you're done there's not that many tiles in front of you but the placement of each one of those is very important with how you score and then there's these little flowers on some of them that you'll uh get bonus victory points for as well neat action going on in the center too with you programming a tile for yourself and then playing one into the middle between yours and theirs to release yours as long as something no longer matches then yours releases and you you get it and get to play it kind of tricky but it just sounds weird it's actually pretty straightforward botanic two-player game and my number 80. my number 80 has been on my list for 15 years and it's the cutest of all the games yes twilight struggle oh this is adorable yeah oh yes capturing the adorable struggle between the soviet union and the united states of america making foreign tossing snowballs that's why they call it the cold war yes that's what that means um i this is really a fantastic game it's one i don't play as much anymore but i had a small resurgence because the app came out for it which is a really well done app um yeah this is there's one small point that the struggles with and that's the player imbalance based on experience yes if i play union never played before well maybe not me if you play someone who knows a game they will beat you and they will probably soundly beat you just because knowing all the cards helps but once you know the cards it's balanced chess with a smidge of dice okay really good it's cold war in a box i have to say that every time i say that sir keep it in the freezer she's related she's a yi she's a yi tom yes no but yes twilight struggle all right the people's show sorry we treat chris like this too you're good that's good it's all fine i mean no so the people's choice number 80 is lahav laura was this on the list last couple of years um it just barely didn't make it last year it was 103. this is a tom vassell thing that's why this is on the people's choice list it is this is absolutely why this is on here over rosenberg go get a datejust that's right how many uh royalties are you gonna be paying to tom it's possible that the bgg bits shown in this picture maybe i don't think it looks familiar also yes it does is your picture uh no it's not my picture nope i didn't take a picture of this one but i think people like this game because it's an uve rosenberg which i really enjoy his games but it's also a little bit different because you're building buildings you're not just doing a work replacement and you have that decision of do i want to collect resources or do i want to build a building yes and you only get to do one per turn so i don't like that mm-hmm yeah i like things yeah okay wait chris says you're not related to him what uh not by blood by marriage just to clarify but that's still related i think chris uh needs to go through the magical portal it's a science number 80. [Music] can i be like i was oh yeah oh there's something on your beard all right my number 79 is a game that is um harshly unjustly oh my and some might say i wouldn't quite go there but some might say criminally undervalued by mr tom vassell every time i bring up what a fantastic game this is somebody vassel needs to pipe up and say oh this game's not this is trash let me get this very straight this is trash my number seventeen that sound like i mean just like that was really good it's like that the milky way that was the milkshake somebody deep faked tom's face and put my voice over all right my number 79 is dawn of peacemakers this is a another cooperative game too back to back but one of the reasons why i really like this game is that this is a very different feeling and i've talked about this i won't belabor it but the idea is it looks like a standard like war game almost a skirmish game except with cute little uh anthropomorphic type of animals but the idea is that you are playing somebody in between a single character that is kind of trying to make both sides tire out so that neither side dominates the other side it's a very interesting little twist um and it does this through card play uh i think it has a very interesting kind of a of a system of like fast and slow kind of initiative type things i think it does a lot of things very well it is a kind of a passion project from the designer i don't think it was ever very widely available so that's kind of a bummer but i really really like don of peacemakers tom thank you i don't think this game has traffic you hate it it's in your top 10 worst games ever i'm pretty sure you threw it in the trash right i did take it out of the dysart library yeah yeah yeah no even mike wasn't playing it so i don't want to hear that i play mine at home i don't play it in the library this is not a probably not a great library game that's also true yeah yeah but i love it my number number 79 dawn of peacemakers my number 79. this one's trash 63 last year for me and this is fallout shelter or surprisingly live it's actually fine it's surprising little work or placement kind of game that for micah and myself because i know we played it together the first time we played it just kind of came out of nowhere we weren't expecting i'm not expecting much of anything like it's a game based on an app it's a video game but it's an app pretty much and um comes in this little tin box and i just wasn't sure what it was going to be and it turns out it's sort of a bigger game than what then that would lead you to believe i really like this game there's resource management there is uh taking actions in different you know vault uh sort of levels as you're building them out and then baddies show up and shut down these rooms so you can no longer go there until someone smacks them out of there and gets points for that really like this one so if you like the theme or if you just want um a pretty straightforward kind of work or placement resource management game this is a this is one i would say don't sleep on because it looks like you can sleep on it yeah yeah and you shouldn't and it's not that expensive nice components the kind of the translucent or transparent cards and stuff yeah the monsters yeah they're on on clear cards yeah so when you lay them over the room you can still see the room but now there's a monster standing in it yeah so good game very good stuff cute it is cute it is i agree with that all right my number 79 is new to the list although i suspect this may be the only year it's on the list and the reason i say that is because i think it's a difficult game to get to the table okay it's big no i like it a lot it's big it's humongous and i'll play it with two or three and that's the great wall for mulligan i don't need to play this game i have nothing you're not one of the two or three in this game fourth man that's right yes i don't remember unlike other games that have been mentioned in this thing this one actually is about war and doesn't pretend like oh we're trying to make peace no you're fighting and saving he had to get a dig in he had to get a digging had to crush on donna piecemead that's all right i was talking about fallout but all right no this game if you get the deluxe version it has some of the best miniatures i'll put this in my top 10 miniatures in the games period i would um they're really good especially for the size usually the one people say all these big gorgeous ones these are great i haven't even went to paint these because they look so good the with the the brushing on them they have sun drop yeah yeah are they big you're saying they're big or small they're smaller but they look really good for being smaller yeah um anyway it's still beyond all that it's a fun game it's a semi-co-op theme where you're defending the wall together but you want to defend it better than everybody else of course really really like the game great wall but it just it's long yeah and it's hard to find other people who are willing to play it like you wouldn't want to probably play it mike says he wants to play it but doesn't you know you stop waiting for someone don't get on mic maybe i'll play with you i got your back you did say two to three right you and mike can play he is a number two per he's a real person it's a trap don't do it when you get to the table donna peacemaker it's underneath the great wall throughout there you go oh man okay so number 79 for the people is teotihuacan i didn't pronounce that correctly that's my that's my favorite pronunciation yes okay this has been on for three years it was 40 last year in 85 year before so it did a little like low high low thing yeah so 79 now and this game for me i mean look at that pyramid in the middle like that to me is just that's the fun of the game you like literally build a pyramid it's wonderful yeah very good i love this game look at this little dice rondelle movement action space you level up your dice there's some really fun stuff in there do we think this is getting close to being something that's going to be considered kind of like a an evergreen almost like like i would consider zulkin to be a game that's stuck around it still has popularity in that small evergreen super cool like we just had uh last top ten or the ten before we had the uh missed uh terra mystica yeah i put this in the same i agree i think it's about very complicated and a few people will absolutely adore it right to be clear we're not saying this game is very complicated but compared to most games sure sure it's in the heavier range i do think it's reached a height that none of the other t games have gone yet none of them zulkin is close probably right yeah and each is pretty good yeah yeah is zulkin really a t game though i don't know if it's it's something you get it i think it's it's hard to say yeah yeah it is it starts the italian designer starts with a t euro who knows who knows i think that this and zulkin are kind of like the the the shining examples sure is that zolkan's from a different company that's the only thing that's the biggest thing yeah so that's people's choice number 79 teotihuacan beautiful [Music] all right my number 78 is the most surprising game on my list as a matter of fact it's so surprising it's made my top surprises list two years in a row my number 78 is furnace that is a fantastic choice yes it's a very good feeling yeah so so furniture is a game that has a couple of things that really for me uh going for it number one is i feel like the amount of play time to the experience you get is pretty much second to none this is about a 45 minute game and at the end of it it doesn't feel it's a length of a filler but it doesn't feel like a filler you feel like you've played a full game a full euro game with a really really clever kind of auction mechanism at the beginning that's my really my favorite part of the game i like that even more than the engine building i think some other people like the engine building more but it has both it does it really well furnace is one of those games that i feel like it's very easy to teach i've taught it to a number of different types of groups it always seems to go over well if you like auctions you'll like it if you like engine building you'll probably like it if you like quick games with some really uh meaningful decisions you'll probably like it so my number 78 is furnace and now i can't pick it as a surprise anymore it is a superb choice mike thank you maybe they'll come up with an expansion you can put that all right i'm back in it's gonna be the first expansion yeah you can do it and figure out a way my number 78 was my 56 last time 76 last time before that 2019. so it's about you know bottom half of my top 100. it's gone by liar's dice before or peruto i i wrote bluff on here really that's the name you go with well this is the one i have this is this one we're looking at here i can see what you chose i've actually had a couple of different versions of this i used to have like a university games oh garbagey one that i had through college oh you mean this is the not garbagey one this is the good looking one that box was nice it has these wonderful cups i would call this one cute and i would not be ashamed to do something okay for this game i think it's critical to have that board that you put the dice out in the middle that's a big deal you gotta have the board you gotta have you have to have the bidding track some additions of this don't have the trash which is insane i'm sorry no and then you have to remember where the stars land in between the cassettes so anyway liars dice roll the dice call out a number and keep kicking up the the total this is just fun it's it's a very this game feels like it has no ego i know that seems dumb it's a game it doesn't have emotions but that's how it feels yeah to me it's a game that's just not easy it's just easy going huh was it on your list last year it was on my list last year right now where is it it was 56 last time i have two 56s i have 356's four stars you don't even know if that's a head or not i'm out got it that's hot [Laughter] i feel a little bit bad talking about this next one my number seven no just because it's difficult for many people to get unless you back the kickstarter yeah but you know what that is a lot of games but this one is more egregious than most was 61 last year and that's monumental yeah i love monumental i want to play this me too and i think you again you're imagining jokes that's what i'm saying no i have not played it it's a matthew dunstan game it is i have yet to play it and i have played a lot of his games it looks like a gigantic game and it's slightly there it's a deck building game where you have a little grid of three by three cards and you you put the cards out and then you pick one row and one column to activate then all those cards go away that's it and then the refill and then the cards let you buy stuff you have different currencies in the game but they also let you move troops around on the map there's a cat lady that it's basically cat lady yes sure it's cat you mental i this is a really enjoyable game and did they wish did they make another kickstarter for it was there a second one yeah i bet it's the african empires and you could get the original game you can get the original with it yes and that has not been delivered yet not yet no okay well maybe it will go higher but this ain't shown up on the people's choice spoilers sure it's just too hard to get a hold of it really has never gone to retail i like it a lot though monument all right number 78 this is monumental let's see it has been on for three years as well so 60 no 53 was its highest so did pretty well um i think that this game really allows the theme to come through so it's a detective game and you're going around and you're interviewing people and you're grabbing items and saying hey i think i found the murder weapon what do you know about this sally but instead of digging through a book where you have to connect and see okay here's sally here's the knife what did she say now let's read this instead you just take your phone or your tablet or whatever and you scan the qr codes you say sally knife and it gives you the interview that you're going to have with her and so i think that it it takes out so much dead time and looking up time that older detective games had and just streams line it makes it so nice so solid choice people yeah solid choice also this makes me happy because there's always people like no one wants to play an apocalyptic game i i love it's on it's on the list it's definitely a lot of people yeah so that's number 78 chronicles of crime [Music] my number 77 is a rare two player only game on my list um there was one earlier i think that was also a two player only he has more friends than you as i believe can you play it solo as well you cannot actually you own a game you can't play well you haven't said you own this actually so uh i own many games you can't play solo my number 77 is skulk hollow this is a asymmetric two-player game where one player is playing as this huge hulking guardian this is kind of similar to like shadow of the colossus where you've got this huge guardian and then the other side are these little foxen these kind of woodland creatures and what you're is that his booty on that pink fox no i think that's just the symbol that's not it's like a little yeah i can't see that now thanks a lot but this is no it's a really clever game though you've got multiple different guardians in the box and they all play slightly differently and what's cool about him is that if you are uh it's car driven if you're playing as the foxen you're literally jumping onto this guardian trying to disable parts of it so if you like take out its left arm that's one of the powers that the guardian has and now they don't have access to that power really really clever game a great production uh you know not a not a large box it's uh really really unique i like skulk hollow a lot and when i want to play a two-player game this is usually the first thing i think of so skull color my number 77. i had not played that it's solid i really like it yeah keith macheko the role player designer did it so yeah good stuff oh okay all righty my number 77 i could not find it on my list the two previous years which is the date i have but i've had it for longer than that maybe we might have been hovering right over 100 for a while uh this is uh shakespeare shakespeare is very much a euro style game in which you are putting on a play and you are going to you go through like a week of rounds of rehearsal with eventually a like a dress rehearsals like you're scoring you build a set you give characters costumes you bid for turn order um and then you activate these characters so you use your tokens to activate these beautifully illustrated characters i think this game probably has as far as like you know the the artwork especially on the car it's it's probably top 10 gorgeous hard work for me just absolutely stunning hard work in this game how much are you swayed by the theme theminess i like it but it's not because of like a theater thing i i don't i don't care that much about that it's one of the few games that actually simulates a theater right yeah yeah yeah um or that has that that theme but no i don't think that's a big part of it i just like what they're doing with it i like that you know putting the little pieces of the cloth on the characters is their costume and then as you're building a set it needs to be symmetrical one side to the other so just the gaminess of that i think is is really cool i like this one a lot the characters really make it for me in this one uh shakespeare and it's got a really neat expansion too called shakespeare backstage that i would recommend just a small deck of cards i would recommend that with this all right my number 77 this is the fourth year it's been on the list although it dropped it was 11 13 and 26 now it's 77. i still like it but i think there's a lot of games that have come out that are like this by the same designers and that's a game mike hates unreasonably is lorenzo the magnifico yeah no i i yeah it's not a game for me but i understand that i understand why people like it i just find it super punishing and more like work punishment after fighting cover yes the best cover ever well that's even well okay uh yeah in this game you roll some dice those dice become your workers that you're placing out on the board you do that to build rows of cars cards you then run these cards with an engine and get points in various ways it's a point salad this rating it definitely includes the expansion which is one of the best expansions i've ever played with the um i i like the expansion in the sense that it it gives you these a special ability and a pile of resources and you are picking these to start your game off but if you you can basically bid down the number of resources to go first okay to pick first before everybody else so you get fewer resources i to begin the game yeah boom at the beginning yeah okay i find it to be really enjoyable so uh lorenzo magnifico i have not played that but it's on my list of things i think so you like going right yeah there's a lot of similarities despite what mike i like golem i just played it that one just this one just felt two percent is more punishing i think this one felt more punishing and again it could have been any number of things could have been the group i was playing could have been the mood i was in that day i didn't play with it i did not teach him that game but i would have accepted that play yeah yeah no all right well the people's choice number 77 is code names this is a vastly popular game in fact um the highest it ever was was number three wow yeah i got a third best game ever made when this came out it was but i think that it's really i think that it's so popular because it's good for groups that have people that want to play a game and they want to be the code master and come up with clever words and combinations but also like i play this with a friend that hates playing games and she can just hang out with us while we're having fun and chill and occasionally she'll throw out something it should be like oh i think it's those words but mostly she's just hanging out with us and she doesn't have to be invested in a game so i think it is hands-on quick question for your house in your house do you have a copy of simpson's code names no we don't have any copy of codenames seems like a very big missed opportunity yeah yeah yeah i got a spicy hot tea i'm giving you a birthday gift you're ready for a spicy hot dog okay mike's got a hot taste spicy hot take are you ready the crew is going to become what code names is now in other words the crew is super hot no the crew is going to become a word game with the next expansion you heard it here you can try to it's going to be a simpsons version a disney version a moral version of this you can you can try to devalue my point by being by opposition okay so in what way is it going to become coaching super hot right now everyone's talking about it the best game since sliced bread five years from now it will go down and down what game is how many years is this let's see this is yeah i mean it went from number three four five six seven years from three to number 77. that's still pretty good it's not in one year but it started at 77. see and now and now it's leveling off that's what's going to happen to the crew i'm pretty sure i think that's what's happening leveling off on 77 of the greatest games ever are you insane people watch this game i like code [Music] the crew is fine too the crew is fine too it's fine is what it is no it's oh it's coming up i'm sure it's coming up later not on my list i mean the crew will be on that list it's going to be probably like number three just like the versions i don't know about that all right so that's the people's choice number 77 codename spicy hot take [Music] i don't think you know what spicy hot tank means i'm just trying to you know try to keep up with the kids that's right hello fellow children my number 76 is a card game a kind of a smaller box unassuming card game crew not the crew actually a game a game that probably should be as popular as the crew is and it is becoming more popular this is nidavelir this is a um this is another game like furnace it fulfills a similar kind of a feel of furnace it's very easy to teach very quick to play great uh decisions in a short amount of time this has gone over well with again everybody that i've taught it to it's essentially a set collection game it's a very very simple game where each type of suit if you want to call it that is going to score in a different way in a very simple way but what the hook of it is is in this bidding system and so you've got basically three ins that you're hiring these these characters at and you're going to be bidding coins and there are ways to manipulate it so that um you can improve your coins and get higher and higher coins that mean you're more likely to win a bid really really clever game super excited the first time i played this i was knocked out by it and it was one of those games that was there yeah it didn't lose its luster the more i've played it it has a nice little expansion that is nice not necessary but it's good the thing of a lear really really good game uh i i i love knitted velire so if you have not played it you should check it out you know it didn't really speak to me the first time i played it really yeah like it was fine there was nothing wrong with it but like it didn't it didn't stand out to me this yi gets it have you only played it once me and z yeah i won't uh uh i might have played it twice i'm telling you this is one of my most successful teachers i have at conventions yeah i teach this and i've only ever had one person i thought does not like it that much yeah who could that be um i um i think you are right though that's a good call that this is very firmness-like yeah it is in in length of time okay difficulty of rules similar yeah yeah anyway all right my number 76 is 76 yeah 76 is gem rush gem rush second edition is the one i currently have it's definitely the better one on drugs they are that front gentleman there has come across some mushrooms in his many trout they look like what about the guy next to him though the green guy is a little bug eyed there no no he's he's that's something else i want to know the story behind the gap tooth but all right um gem rush has been on my list these last couple years it's slipping a little bit 44 a couple years ago 52 but the game is uh a pretty straightforward hand management game in which you collect gems you're holding gems in your hand you are moving discovering these caverns these are just uh cards they behave like tiles you walk through an opening in the tile you're currently in getting rid of the gems listed on that edge and there's a point value there you score those points you get rid of those gems and then you draw a new tile and place it into the space you just walked into creating new exits and new abilities the rooms have powers so depending on where you are or where you ended up you're going to draw cards you can perhaps the room says flip over cards until you get a wild and keep it things like that so you can manage your your hand of tiles and you're just going to a certain victory point total there's also you can play this cooperatively i mean competitively like like i explained now or you can cooperate in which at the end of every round you burn some cards from the deck and by the time it's gone you need to have a certain number of points so you can just play that way too they both work pretty well actually i prefer competitive i think it's a little smoother that way but either way is fine and i really like the the quality of this one the production value that's just the look of the whole thing unfortunately this is pretty hard to get so there you said last year we should put this on the catch poser probably i i feel strongly about that i i really think i might like this one this is neat it's a neat little game um not a big thing i think it's slipping because it's not a it doesn't make a big splash it's small it's a little thing but i still have a fondness for it so 76 gem rush all right my number 76 has been on the list this is second year last year it was 100. oh moving up moving on up well i don't know if it might settle or what will happen the under the the non-loved at the dice tower designer mr alexander fister no i mean everyone raves about alexander fister but his games don't show up that often on our list yeah the great western trail is not like always being played here and no you know what's up what else is even done that's it right no i'm kidding okay his or i'm 50 50 on his games i like some of them and some of them they don't speak he has a slightly higher hit rate than feld but similar to that he's a little similar to rosenberg though where he has two types of games he has these big grandiose ones like a smaller then he has these little little guardians which may or may not show up in people's lists yeah um this one i really enjoy though americaibo i did say that right no you haven't seen america is totally what you said i this is i'm not a huge fan of rondelles although this game is very much a rondelle where you're moving your ship around in a circle over and over um but the way the cards it just it works together it's definitely a math problem in a game which i definitely have ranted against many times but i i think i like the upgrading system a lot you have this board with all these little discs on which don't stay on the board at all you have to buy a classic piece to keep you really selling this game yeah really yeah yeah but i i love how i love upgrading this i think it's less complex than great western trail but just bare which is also around less than like a tail to what cotton right like way less than that or no it's the same if not more oh hello i wasn't trying to sell you on it but i like it i like it better than i can handle it i gave you the truth i like it better than great western trail okay actually i think it's my favorite of the big fister games have you played black out hong kong that one's my favorite because i like it really i like that i really like black hong kong that's the one you gotta get i haven't played america yet but i like i like no but that one did not no that one did not get critical to claim the blackout hong kong but that doesn't mean it wasn't as good i thought it was fine it's very obtuse though it's definitely i heard that the card play in that was very similar to the card play in maracaibo all right number 76 for the people that's you it is calco this is the first year that it made it on last year it was 141 so it has definitely moved up yeah it is like half this half the number that's great um calico is a fun puzzly game where you have some scoring conditions and you collect these little hex tiles and you lay them out it's really beautiful there's a lot of different patterns going on you score for patterns and colors depending on what the different scoring conditions are it's it's simple it's easy and it's very contained in your little board and i i liked it not simple not easy okay well i thought it was simple and then another line whatever i'm with you the rules are remarkably simple you pick a tile you place it you place the tile yeah when i compare this to like cascading because a lot of people want to compare them this is as the game goes on it gets more restrictive yes as cascadia goes on the game gets more expansive it's like the exact opposite of a design philosophy yes yeah yeah to that end i'm going to make the call that this will not go any higher straight up because people will pick cascadi over calco not everyone i personally like calico better i think this looks better than cascading i do wow yeah i like the look of it better but i think i like cascadia better cascadia is just sound to me i like this better because it's cats and i like cats that's point one who are you and where's vassel it depends on what experience i'm looking for if i want something brain burning i'm going cat i ever want someone i like that brain burning i want cascading just found the puzzle just punishing it was you're talking about you know not like you know magnifico because of punishing no i did not like it originally i almost thought it was okay i could appreciate it but i didn't really enjoy it and it's and it's dropped off from there no i still like it i find it to be simply so restrictive that eventually i'm looking for like a tile i need and if it's not in the flop then i don't get it it does have a it's like okay yeah you can paint yourself into a corner because it was like sure this yeah i don't like that yeah the other one cascadia yes all right number 76 for people's choice is calico and i do like cats i swerve [Music] mmm poodle don't get him started on the couch oh yeah don't get me started on the fact that's not a calico cactus then i'll be told that i need to learn more about it i like i don't dislike cats i just swerved their day to not hit one oh wow tom yeah go out of your way there i did go out of my way i'm sure it wasn't because you didn't want to have to get your alignment redone or anything too actually that that stuff does not go through my hands what a monster you're a monster okay he sees a cat and he's all of a sudden he's thinking about his kids oh no my car yeah right this is outrageous all right my number 75 is a flip and right game a game from a japanese publisher that i have quite a bit of fondness for sashi and sashi this is let's make a bus route let's make a bus round that's right now interestingly enough i have not played this version but yellow is bringing over or has brought over i don't know if it's been released yet it's really close a version of this game where it's been slightly rethemed because the biggest downside to this game has been how difficult it is to get a hold of in many parts of the world i had to have this imported um but it'll be more easy to get a hold of it's a really cute clever game where you are basically flipping over a card and that's going to tell you what type of a route you can go how you can move your your bus and you're trying to pick up students to drop them off at universities you're trying to pick up elderly people and you're trying to pick up uh sightseers to take them to areas of interest like the tory gates and things like that very very cute game light and breezy but has some neat little distinctions that make it feel different than other uh flip and right or roll and write games you have a shared board if you uh that's the big one yeah if you share the same route or same street with somebody else you create traffic which is negative points a really really cute game clever quick let's make a bus route and i'm glad that it's going to be more available uh here relatively soon and it's a good looking addition i really like this game i rated it i rated them the same okay i did a review for that you can check that out it's called get on board right um i said they're the same i mean they are the new one has some rules refinements uh but but it's solid absolutely solid you'll have to look at that next year because if so then that would be easier for people on the top sure you're right yeah but you haven't played it so you can't right mike has a much more you know he picks the copy that's hard to get yeah i picked the one you can play this is unobtainable that's what i'm looking for in my choices unobtainable all right my number 75 is the bloody in the bloody inn uh has been on my list both of the last times here it was 91 in 2011. i'm 2011 2019. then 2020 it shot up a bit to 58 now settled in between them i think this is probably where this lives i find this morbid theme really funny and kind of interesting i just like it you are running an inn in france in like the seventeen hundreds i think it is the 18th century i think so yeah so before fingerprints weren't definitely so you're running an in you're welcoming people in you're putting them up in the rooms some of them you might murder and maybe bury their bodies and steal everything in their pockets sure some of them you make your accomplices yeah to help you achieve all these things help you murder more people the game we're talking about it's sort of tongue-in-cheek morgan of course but i really like the game and another expansion i would definitely recommend for this uh it's called the carnies and it's a modular expansion so you can choose like four little parts you can choose what you put in and don't put in that expansion is also great so yeah i just like this a lot you you know all the stuff all the sort of silliness going on is dark but very humorous yeah it's not to be taken seriously all right i know i can go and go up with i don't know if you'd like it but i don't know either my number 75 has been on the list for 14 years it's never really gotten too high and it's been off the list for several years but it's back on get it back out of there again what are you doing no i like this game vegas showdown vegas showdown which i don't think you hate anyway i do not like this game yeah this is a game about building a casino which is a fun i like any gamer you have to build something and and when you get to like get nitty-gritty about like i'm putting restaurants in i'm putting in slot machines i find that fun this game would probably be in my top 50. if somebody yes please say it anybody anybody would make a game with decent components components are so terrible when that question comes up and then basically any q a what would you reprint what would you want to be a better quality just assume vegas showed down for me because it's like i mean i have one at home the player of mats are paper it's insane and then they have little tokens you put on them which are always get lost yeah and then the poker chips which you know should have some sort of heft to them yeah do not yeah nice production of this i i jump on that so don't play it on a picnic with wind oh you cannot play this outside for sure no it's a fun game i really like it i like the bidding aspect it's my have you played i'm in ray okay have you played um stockpile um maybe that's where you just there's there's different numbers and you pick the next number that's higher than the other person okay i like that it keeps us real basically you have to bid somewhere but if someone outbids you you need to leave that spot and bid elsewhere oh you cannot re-bid in the same place okay that's the but also it has it also has specific numbers too which i like because we don't go one two three four five you know right after z would have stopped so anyway vegas showdown great game i played it in vegas too oh i missed vegas i want to go home okay i thought this was home but all right ah you just [Laughter] yeah oh hit a gator on the road then you'd swerve to save your car i thought for about what you told us you had it again no no no no no no no not yet no all right number 75 is to prove that z is wrong oh now i've been i personally have been on the same page i'm already on board today but do you remember last episode when you were talking with roy about terra mystica yes and you were saying that oh god is number 75 from people i want to clarify i did not say fantasy is better than space i want to say traditionally like in the 90s publishers would avoid publishing sci-fi themed things sure because they did not sell well i'm talking like when for duty was popping yeah yeah you went fantasy right that's what you sold um now i guess the tables have turned you know i will say this is in probably my top 10 least favorite covers of all time i absolutely it's a rough cover it's a rough cover okay well first of all ben you have not seen a lot of board game coverage if that would be in your top ten i i'm not saying it's necessary the worst i'm saying it's like my least favorite just for something absolutely terrifying that's not that i mean i'm not saying it's great but that top 10 worst covers terrible it's not a great cover but i i don't know if it's like one of the worst ever it's garbage i think it's fine i feel like sci-fi is very generic though in general well this game has little theme it has more than determined but still very little theme you know what this year this is the highest it's ever been oh it's interesting okay yeah it started out at 76 no sorry it started out 98 76 went down to 85. now 75. okay all right okay highest fanciest year game about terraforming very euro very low luck game like it is almost abstract with engine building i haven't played this i played terra mystica i've not played guy i love it and i love it do you love tara masaka no i've only played it once it was a long time ago i was a baby gamer back then so it was a bit much for me like an actual child she played it when she was three that's where i started i started young no it was probably like seven or eight years ago that i played guy or yeah okay so i might i think i would like it now but yeah so that is number 75 gaia project for the people [Music] my number 74 is a cover that is just objectively fantastic and no one would dislike this cover okay okay my number 74 is wasteland express delivery service so here's but i can see some people looking at this cover and saying i hate this because it's similar to me i've never heard anyone say that she's similar like that i hate them it's similar to me to like dinosaur uh island i mean it's chaotic it's a very company that's what i'm saying it has a similar aesthetic to me i like it however getting past the cover this is a pickup and delivery game that looks like it would be much more combat focused than it is it really is not it's really about fulfilling contracts and there's some nice economic aspects to it and also some really neat euro underpinnings this is a game i think it's misunderstood a lot of times people think it's going to be like an ameritrash fighty game and it's really not it's a euro underpinned pickup and delivery contract fulfillment game with some neat upgrades where you can upgrade your vehicles and things along those lines the things that has going against it probably the number one thing is that it can be a little bit tough to teach there's a fair amount of rules to the game and the second is the length it's a long game you can you can kind of adjust that by having you know a certain number of contracts triggering the end game and i would always choose the short version of the game uh because i think it wears out as welcome if it goes too long but um it's a great theme fantastic production one of the earliest kind of blinged out as a standard edition of the game uh productions i ever saw um it doesn't get to the table as much as i'd like that's why it's kind of gone down a bit on my list actually it's probably gone down yeah 16 points so still like it wish i could get it played more you took it home recently take a look at the rules recently but like a year ago you brought it right back i did yeah it was too much took it home i opened it up and started looking through it and kind of setting things aside and looking at the rule book and slowly deflating like a souffle and i eventually put it all back i mean you just played that other one i thought that was more complex which one one in australia yeah no not last or the one in australia where there was like a book and you read all the different things that one's got a story hook yeah i did just play it and that's a beast that's what i was saying that's more complicated than that that one it is probably but it's got a drive to it you know what i mean no pun intended um this one felt like a euro game that i got tricked by because it's got an awesome post-apocalyptic cover yeah and it was it's an economic game yeah i got it right and i packed it up and brought it back i did yeah i am concerned that if if we ever do have some apocalypse like a bet z would be like who puts up the trunk of his car yeah has his outfit ready to go with the football let's go oh gas mask are you are you one of those like water hoarders and food hoarders are you praying preparing for the apocalypse are you one of them no prepper he's just gonna take it he's not a prepper are you a doomsday prepper no no i just keep taps of where the preppers are oh okay you're gonna siphon their oil and their guys got it opened up anyway 74 wasteland express delivery service it's very cool but misunderstood all right i misunderstood it oh you did all right my number 74 is nothing like that game it's a party game called dixit it's a classic at this point jason is a beautiful little game that uh you can play with just about anybody i often play with the family it's pretty much when this comes out now as if the family is playing and um i just find it to be a pleasant relaxing silly laugh filled little game tons of expansions that you don't need but they add more variety um not a whole lot else to say about this one i believe that's a three-way crossover between you me and the people okay yeah yeah this is a good one it's a beautiful game so there you go 74. it's not on my list but i hold it in high esteem it would not be too far off the list it's hard to hate this game i think yeah my number 74 was 90 last year it's been on the list for four years and i think this one is suffering from just people forgetting about it from richard garfield bunny kingdoms this was pretty hot when it came out and i just haven't heard anyone talk or play it in a while but i still think it's fantastic i love drafting i love placing things in the grid there you go i'm done that's why i like it also you have bunnies and they're replicating at a mad rate um i just wish the end game on this was different i wish the the scoring that's the only thing i like the drafting i like the putting them out i think the scoring at the end is such a pain mm-hmm i also really like addition so no it's not that's not a joke it kind of balloons up yeah it's not just it it's too much to keep track of to i mean for the for the type of game that's my only complaint against it it's really clever it's really smart i actually really like that endgame you're like and look at this and look at this because everyone does that they're all playing points of cards it feels great yeah it might be a me problem but i just don't like the end every single thing on this list has been a you problem no dang not cold that that was too far that was a little team you owe him your hat a little bit yeah no no no you should keep that on because i saw it i got a glimpse keep it on here yeah grapefruit doesn't look good on me from the same part where he goes too yeah now actually i worked at his barber yeah you went first though when you got a haircut and then he was tired and weak and 100 fast it's actually yours i can tell fellas keep that hat on and it was the actual same barber too yeah there you go see i'm a detective um oh man all right number 74 for the people it's not a barbershop game it is a crossover with tom twilight struggle oh it'll be a three-way crossover when it gets diseased right and the people i'm all about i have not played this i have not it's a it's a big game it was on it's number one for a long time on bgd right yeah yeah it was it's just been a well-known popular game it's got stats for for ages and days stats as old as tom himself uh wow that's a bold statement yeah right right so i actually watched your i watched your like why is twilight struggle good video oh yeah and you talked about you're like oh yeah people my age you know we grew up in the cold war i was two when the berlin wall came down so wow it it doesn't speak to me mike was fired i was in college 89 89 yeah that's when i graduated high school i really like the uh juxtaposition of the cute happy dinosaur next to that struggle board i well there and also when we had the board up it was just a very cute little joke and then yeah yeah i just love him i was gonna i was like soros always makes everything very cute all right so that is number 74 twilight struggle baby [Music] all right my number 73 is a game that is probably maybe the simplest game on my list it is a card game and it started what i think is was hot for a while called the micro game trend this is love letter now love letter has been turned into 90 or 100 different versions right they're coming out with another one here soon jabba something about jobless palace right it's just letter re-themed i have the batman version yeah batman the best version well until the until the infinity one so some of these other ones especially the ip based ones have changed the formula slightly but the real meat of the game is just i think it's 18 cards a very tiny game you you play a card you draw a card you play a card you have two cards in your hand right very simple within that small deck of cards within that almost not their rule set really comes with some fun play and it's the type of game that you absolutely are going to play over and over again you know i mean i think you play maybe what the seven or something like that five or seven yeah but most people don't even really track you just play you just play until you don't want to play anymore i agree that i mean that is my preferred way of playing you just play it you know it feels to me like this is going to be one of those classics that go that around for for many many many years i still enjoy playing it um and i'm even excited about the new things what are you what are you chris you use hot spicy take as the crew will become the new love letter oh yeah it's not happening um it's not micro enough yeah it's not yeah yeah it's it's now love letter still a great game i still enjoy and it doesn't matter the the addition i mean i'll still play standard love letter i don't care i enjoy the game but it is nowhere close to top 100 for me it's too late i think too little also i think i played it so much i i feel like i've seen the game i feel the same way you felt about code names yeah but yeah this is a game that creates a meta though i mean i really think that a little bit the more you know it if you're playing it with people that also know it well then you're playing the player more than you're playing the cards see and i don't necessarily love that i love that i don't love to play a game that much that then it's about the person and less about the game yeah see no but but yeah to me that is the game to me that is the game i've i often forget about it and then i play it i played it at the convention this past year somebody wanted to play it and it's very pleasant it reminds you like oh yeah that's why this is a classic right sure but though it is weird that lost legacy which is basically the same game right has way more additions that are even interchangeable that didn't go anywhere yeah it's just i think it's one step too complex for how small it is i like it i like it better than love letter i don't but yeah it might be that might you might be right all right that's me with 73. uh this was 49 last time 17 before that it's clearly heading in the wrong direction here but i know what it is this is a big game it's difficult to play um it's it's an evening kind of thing you got to prep a little bit for it and i'm playing this game with you actually oh yeah detective city of angels oh yes detective city of angels is a wonderful immersive gorgeously illustrated kind of whodunit rpg in a box is sort of how i describe it ideally someone's running the game and they are giving the players who are moving around the board and questioning people or searching places or whatever information if they question someone you the player running the the game that they call the chisel oh gives them an answer i couldn't think of what the word was oh no it's chisel yeah the chisel you give them an answer as that character you can choose a better answer or a worse one so you're kind of rpg'ing the thing somebody's doing too well pulling back a little bit somebody's really you know needs help and then help them out you can do it that way if you want to so it kind of toes that line between game and rpg for me but it's hard to get to the table you know it's and there's a decent amount of rules you have to kind of prep for it you have to have someone to run it you ideally have to have someone to run it you could you could just randomize it with entries okay you can do that but the best experience is having someone run it who knows the game well knows that case already so they know what the right answer is and they know what to avoid and not avoid as clues um i think that's why it's dropped a little bit but i have tremendous respect for this game i think what it does it does uniquely and superbly so detective city of angels 73. we enjoyed it so much we played two games in one night we did we played the first game we're like oh that was fun let's play together the first one's kind of like a short intro all right my number 73 is new to the list it was 118 last year moved up because they released a whole lot more stuff for this is my new hero escape and that is funkoverse oh wow now i still if you recall last year we did a funk over showdown yeah which was it came out the two on two was you and were you with zero with me i don't i don't think i was in this i battled it out you were with z and you you were unmatched so you must have been with me on funko burst did we play this is and i suspect z is not even close in the comparison between them now with where you are with unmatched no no no no no nash is fantastic i thought this was okay and i haven't played enough of the new unmatched stuff to be able to even be more as definitive but this is still the one i like better i love all the stuff that they have i haven't heard anything new announced for this in a while but it doesn't matter my one biggest problem with this by a mile storage yes yeah it's not a nice time library it's in a bin in the our storage room over here yeah um and uh i just like it though i like being able to play jurassic park and i also for me the one thing i like about matched over i mean i like about this over unmatched is you have a team right i like mixing and matching the team i'm like oh i'm gonna play with voldemort and batman and a raptor from jurassic park and and i want to say they did announce a couple of new sets but i can't for the life remember what they were when just recently i could because it's been a bit the last one they released i believe was either the marvel or it was space jam right there's harry potter stuff for this tour that was why the original was that yeah yeah i think that's the only one i played space jam mm-hmm yeah bugs bunny which i'm fine with and um but use the goat man after watching that movie he's the goat of acting for sure i thought michael jordan was bad anyhow about your number 73 number 73 funko first all right the people's number 73 is welcome to this is a flip and right name or roll and write game right verb and verb this was my first role and write game i mean other than like yahtzee but like it's my first one and i think for a lot of people this was like one of the early popular ones like really brought in this this new age of roll and write games you're building a little town and you're making sure that you're marking off numbers and stuff and there's construction there's bonuses there's set collection there's just fun stuff going on there and your neighborhood can be completed by the end so welcome to whatever your neighborhood name is that you get to name it it's good you like this one i like this one have you played the space one welcome to the moon welcome to the moon taking it home today done okay i don't know i like welcome to the moon a lot i just haven't played i want to play through more scenarios because they really really changed the game up right yeah you got like eight boards now right yeah there's eight boards in it so i is it a story to it or is it just scenario like that they have a whole scenario driven thing that i ignore but it's there oh okay you can read through it they even have like paragraphs do this now play this interesting interesting did you play the vegas one the welcome to vegas welcome to new york i haven't played that one either that one is i've thought just because i lived there doesn't mean i played every game called homestead hey i lived in las vegas and i very rarely went to the strip yeah the people that live in vegas yeah you only go down there for like when people are visiting people come in town yeah or you have a show to go to for sure all right so that was number 73 welcome to [Music] my number 72 is a another cooperative game i've had quite a few cooperative games in this level in this um like selection of games and this is one that i believe the z has quite a an affection for as well this is rising 5 runes of astros a couple of things that i really like about this game number one is that it is very quick you can get a game of this done in 45 minutes pretty consistently um yes i also love the art vincent de trait knocks it out of the park but probably my favorite aspect of this game is that many times when you're playing in cooperative games and you have special powers like i'm the medic i do this i'm the communications expert i do this if you don't particularly like i just try to figure out somebody's mind was wrong is it me do we know who it is really okay stop rubbing rubbing the mic i guess mike back our kickstarter so we can get new better mic yeah exactly in those games if you either don't really love that power or you feel like you're stuck doing the same thing over and over again you know i'm just the medic i just do this in this game you basically have access to all of those powers it just depends on which cards you play so if you want to have this power you play the character of those cards and you play a certain number of cards to give you the strength of it i really like that it's all built around this kind of desk puzzle you can use an app to kind of run that aspect for you that's really the way to do it a free app um so really like rising five and i'm hoping i'm not somewhere enough okay it was mike on his button i think it was like was it okay it's not on my button anymore all right hooray i am surprised this is on your top 100 mike yeah i i like it quite a bit um i did not realize you did also i love it yeah where are we at mike seven mike's number 72 was rising five in case you missed that yeah i didn't realize i mean you ruined your own your own number i've worn this mic many times never had this issue i don't know maybe it doesn't like cooperative games perhaps my number 72 is saint malo wow this is really high yeah yeah this is a great roll and right game one of the og roll and right games before we were kind of calling them that and the first i believe to use a board an erasable board yeah as far as i know and it's so interesting because this plays against type for you i think you said that you don't like this has all those city building things you say you don't like yes placement rules all that type of stuff so it's interesting that this one works for you because it does because it's very tiny i think maybe it's you really are building just in this kind of like you know five by five in the middle there right right but yes you're right you are rolling dice you yahtzee style after those then you collect all of one face so you can do collect wood and you write that in or you know resources and you color that into your board or yes buildings or characters you need specifically uh specifically a number of faces that show the character face to get sort of better and better people you know you can hire this person that is worth i don't know two points for every church around them so you you know pencil them in every position you take of course is a spot no longer available for something else you'd like to maybe put there right so if you know if that character now is next to another character that's a spot where a church can't go i like that those things kind of running at each other and then on top of that you got to build the wall because the pirates are flinging some volleys at you yeah i like this my only issue with this game is i try to avoid higher player counts because there's not that's one thing that role and right games have seen and and resolved this was before that yeah where on my turn you all just chill and wait so i play with two or three i don't want to play with more than that i think it i think it goes up to four really so it's not that big a deal but it's it's a lot of down time at that point it's a good solo game too yeah yeah so uh there you go same milo the one thing i'm not a fan of and maybe i'm the only person whose way i'm not huge on these a lot of roll right games do this where they make me draw pictures and it bothers me because i'm not good at drawing pictures i don't want to slow the game down by working hard and i look at my board looks like garbage and i look open there's always someone at the table as is really pretty it's pristine wrong thing and i agree i'm not a big fan of that this one's not too bad like that dinosaur one recently you're drawing like this whole yeah they really if they want something really specific and intricate and there's a lot of it i'm like dude no i don't you know that's too much this one is blocky it's like okay got it or you draw like a circle with the letter m that's a mason or something or you know whatever the character yeah that's easy that's easy my number 72 is the third year it's been on the list and that is empires of the north actually what's it called imperial settlers imperial settlers empire note but i never called that because uh it's not anything like imperial settlers which i think imperial sideways is a decent game empires of the north is a great game i love the combos in this now is this game done i haven't seen anything new for them they just announced a campaign thing i don't know about that i agree with you later but no they've come out with a bunch of expansions i don't think they're done i haven't played some of the new stuff the last one i played was with you actually with the the ships the barbarians and not the the ones who had like a fleet of ships wasn't the the japanese factions maybe they were the first ones oh really yeah it was japanese then barbarians then egyptians i believe i don't know and romans no japanese romans barbarians egyptians each one of those has two factions still comparatively to the first one imperial settlers i feel like they've drastically slowed down because they've they released a lot of content for this quickly and then either way it doesn't matter you still have like you said 10 decks to play with each deck has a very distinct feel i just like the game because it's like take a quick action take a quick action but you just sit there and go and i get to do this and now i can do this and i it just seems fun yeah yeah that's all i'm gonna say episode i love it all right the people 72 this one is kind of a well anyway we've already mentioned it before it is cascadia oh wow wow so that's that's fascinating cascadia made it in the same same decade of the game i don't know what else to call it same 10 list but yeah cascadia is a lot like calico you're placing hexes around and you're scoring based on certain scoring conditions but instead of building a nice little quilt you are building an ecosystem so you want your bears to have plenty of food you can stick elk and stuff around them you want the birds to be able to find fish or whatever it is like it just their different scoring conditions depends on which ones you have out for every game they do change and um and i think that i don't remember who made this point i think it might have been you or you was it a good point it was a good point the point was is that this game as it progresses the farther along you have more options instead of less options and so i think that's why i did not slightly higher than calico right yeah yeah this or yes i said yeah yep you can tell from my eloquence describing it again that was definitely your work that really took it over the top for sure so number 72 for the people is cascadia [Music] all right we're closing off this list with a game that many people consider to be barely a game and i don't care hear me i don't care you're still better about that rocks not yeah it's an activity not every game needs to make your brain explode not every game needs to have a 14-page player mike is on his desk sometimes just relaxing sometimes games can be about enjoying the experience and yeah if you win that's great and you're gonna try to win but it is about the destination as much as the or the journey as much as the destination this is tokaido that's a game i can't tell you how many times i have heard people say this is barely a game i really yes i think i just said that to him like two days ago correct you actually you probably kind of did you kind of did and i really hate the angle of this picture this is the mission impossible picture someone took this hanging upside down from their heels so anyway tokaido is a beautiful game about traveling uh from edo to tokyo i believe that could be wrong but it really is one of those games that is a ratchet game or a one-way street game you're going to tokaido right away to tokyo oh to tokaido sorry yeah anyway person that's in furthest back is the next one to go and you're stopping at these different things maybe you're going to the hot springs maybe you are going to the temple to donate to the temple and it's set collection primarily you're gaining some beautiful landscape panorama landscapes in front of you and you stop at these inns to gain meals it is not a heavy game it is very much a welcoming game you're being really defensive here i'm telling you i agree with you i got you oh yeah it's like you're worried about something that's not going to happen okay maybe not but anyway i've heard it maybe not from you guys i've definitely heard that this is something that is too light okay i like the game i gave it a positive review in fact we have a sequel i just realized it's been missing so you must have it it's not missing it's in the room but i want to take it home and play it i just got to find a spot but yes it's going to be missing we have yeah so really really like to kind of matter of fact uh camilla hasn't played it yet and i thought it would be that would be a fun one to to introduce to her palooza yeah something like that yeah because i've got the the collector's edition with and i don't get a chance to play that as much well you know what i don't know at home mike yeah you can put the the crossroads and and the match version okay no no no there's no giant anyway 71 hokkaido it's barely a game uh my number 71 is my uh did have i picked a a bruno catala game for this chunk yeah you're going from edo to kyoto via tokaido oh it's hokkaido's the road oh that's the extra large version you just walked into kyoto though it's not tokyo but maybe those are the same place i don't really know no i think eddo was anyway go ahead all right it's barely a game uh my number 71 is my bruno katala entry for these ten every ten i made sure there was at least one bruno guitar game i tipped the top ten of which is six right oh yeah you know that will happen but uh my 71 is my acropolis my acropolis is neat man i think you'd like this cute very straightforward tile laying game with a couple of knee twists you are going to there's a there's a lineup of tiles you take them the first one just goes around your central board there where your your uh soldier ants are check them out they're so cute and then of course you play the first tile which is wedge shaped um and after that every single one you take goes on one side of that construction or the other and the game's over when you have the entire ant hill made and then you'll score tunnels you'll score various fruit and things that they've dragged down there you can use the little workers to kind of skip some tiles and take a better one later on very common mechanism but it's just a good game it's got a nice amount going on in it you can get some special abilities from the different tiles that sort of thing but it it threads the needle between two lights kind of like you know not enough to differentiate what you're doing from anybody else not a game definitely a game right so it avoids that but it's not complex by any means and it's a pretty quick and short game it's like 35 minutes maybe 45. i really like the theme too for some reason this cute ant hill theme is really neat there's not many games that do it unfortunately think it would be ripe for exploration you know this is the only game i've ever played with bruno catawba you played many games with them i'm sure you played this with bruno guitar really yeah that's the only one where gen con bg i think that's cool anyway i really like this did you did you enjoy it you liked the game oh i like this game a lot i played this with you too it's a good one it's a good one i like it less memorable not clear clearly i i understand that i'm no kotala 71 micropolis all right my number 71 has been all over since the very beginnings first this is the 16th year here and it started 85 it went out didn't even show up for a while came back last year was 87. so i don't know where i'm at with this one okay um and that's yinch oh i think just some year mr yinch you really are getting him sorry they should rethink this face he would just use the first two letters there and stick them over his segments oh man that's great 100 anyhow i like i like itch it's the best of this series i have this might be the only apps pure abstract on my list there might be another one later on i can't remember but i just this is great one of the classics five in a row you get by moving these rings around and it's it's a mix between five in a row and othello right you flip over things and they change colors i like othello the problem with othello is get to the corner that's the strategy get to the corner and it's not very interesting once both players figure that out yeah is a more open version which is better okay fantastic so there you go timeless game absolutely uh the people have a final say in number 71 which means they're correct obviously i dare not argue with them probably all right so their number 71 is patchwork which sure also relates to calico so there's an odd like balanced one i'm guessing before they balanced it right right right with the uh the halloween one was the one that balanced they nerfed the buttons there was a significant button or thing going on so patchwork is a game where you're trying to collect these nice little quilting pieces which by the way i only know of two quilting games and they're both on this 10. can you think of another quilter yes there's that is that that's not quilting there's that terrible one from rio grande oh yeah what is that called it's not bad um it's not bad that's what it's called it might not even be that terrible it's terrible looking um it's not that bad of a game though okay but in patchwork you're trying to collect these quilting squares they're kind of funky shapes and you're putting them on a board trying to make the tightest and nicest quilt with lots of buttons so you can get income and it's got a very interesting time tracker where you're spending time as a resource to get pieces and uh yeah it's very interesting it's also two player only which is yeah one or two players well no actually the one came later yeah this is like i think it's just two yeah you're right yeah that you could get there's a solo thing you can do for it but this was i think if i remember right came out of the development from a feast for odin where he was he was designing a feast for odin and then he was like i can make this game 42 other times right well and that game is such a sprawling design that i think he just kind of pulled that aspect out for this and then this kind of branched off into like uh nova luna with that track and all this other stuff quilt show quilt show is it yeah so yeah this is an interesting design in that it's kind of iterated in a lot of different ways and there's a wrong right version of this too which i've played recently yeah something like that so that is number 71 for the people patchwork halloween but i mean sorry not halloween uh valentine patrick coming out very soon to extraordinary thank you wendy thank you everybody if you like what we're doing if you
