deuteragonists also known as secondary protagonists or some of the most important characters in anime period Well the concept of the deuteronist is not specific to anime at all it's pretty Envision another type of media that does the deuteragonist Trope quite as well as anime see because well video games and books and cartoons in Real Life television and movies due to the deuteronus thing pretty well Captain America has Bucky Rick has Morty and Tom has Jerry the concept of a protagonist having a deuteragonist or a secondary protagonist in anime is pretty ingrained into the culture it's hard to think of an anime where the main character doesn't have a deuteragonist but just because the concept of having basically two protagonists is baked into the culture of anime doesn't mean that all of our secondary protagonists are perfect in fact a good amount of them are heavily flawed it actually take away from the show as a whole but forever deuteragonist that takes away from the show there's a deuteragonist that actually overcomes the main protagonist in popularity with the fan base characters like Vegeta and Sasuke who are widely beloved in their Community even though they're not the main protagonist and this is an interesting phenomenon but not quite crazy because a lot of the time deuteragonists actually have a much more relatable backstory than our main protagonists or much more relatable approach to certain situations because a lot of time in shown in our main protagonists are somewhat unrelatable there are these rays of sunshine with an ungodly amount of positivity and Trust to get through whatever terrible situation they might be in while our deuteragonists represent a more realistic more grounded and possibly darker approach to what is the same situation and because that a main protagonist and a deuteronus usually represent two sides of the same coin two people with separate approaches and demeanors trying to accomplish the same goal and thus because of the dichotomy that these deuteragonists create in the anime that we love they're one of my favorite tropes I love when the attention is split between two main protagonists it's one of my favorite things in fact pretty much all of my favorite anime ever do exactly that and thus today I want to talk about deuteragonists but today I want to do something a little bit different than what we might be used to on this page usually when we're talking about a wide branching Trope from anime like pervy characters or strong old men we talk about the strongest of the truth but actually kind to find those videos boring to make I like doing individual deep Dives on how strong a certain character may or may not be I lose a day off my life every time I have to say something like relativistic or FTL Plus or continent level and I'm willing to shave those days off my life for views but today I want to enjoy myself and thus today while we will be ranking and explaining the greatest deuteragonists in anime history We're Not Gonna Be ranking characters based off strength instead we're gonna be working characters off a my personal enjoyment and B their impact in the anime are the manga they existed because I just think that's a genuinely more fun video to make and hopefully to watch I about their fee it's in their abilities and so on and so forth but more on the capacity to explain why they're so important to the story they existed so if you came to hear whether or not Zorro was stronger than Sasuke I'm sorry this isn't the video for you but if you want to hear what I think about these characters impacts and the stories they're involved in then this is the video for you there will be somehow hard they Punchy talk but enough about the rules let's get into it but before we get into anything guys please for me like this video subscribe to the page and hit that Noti Bell and if you like hearing me explore how hard an anime character Punch or talk about their thematic relevance In Their Own Story You're Gonna Love My anime podcast who talk who's Anonymous where me and Danny Moda breakdown ever happen in anime this week it's available on YouTube Spotify and apple podcasts so while our list will include 10 of my favorite deuteragonists all throughout anime and why I believe that they deserve to be in certain spots because of the impacts they have in their stories unfortunately while I was making this list a couple of people couldn't make it in and because I appreciate these characters and understand that the fan bases will go absolutely rabid when they see that I haven't added them to this list I'm gonna do a short honorable mention now my honorable mention is three people but also kind of one because in our honorable mention category we're gonna be placing every zeppole now for those of you who don't watch JoJo's Bizarre Adventure the zeppeli family are a family faded to pretty much reincarnate with the Joe Stars the first Epley that we're ever introduced to is Will Antonio zeppeli he is the deuteragonist in Phantom blood the first season of jjba now will Antonio zeppeli is the person who teaches Jonathan Joe Starr how to use Ripple also known as hamon and thus he's kind of the person responsible for the Joe Stars being able to defeat vampires in the first place and upon hearing about Dio and his fascination with a stone mask zeppeli goes to find Jonathan joestar as Epley has been spending his entire life trying to destroy the sun mask that will allow vampires to walk during the day however unfortunately will Antonio's epili is killed by a man by the name of tarkus and technically Jonathan joestar also should have been killed by tarkus but will Antonio zeppeli gives the last of his energy over to Jonathan to save his life which allows Jonathan to go on defeat tarkus battle against Dio and sink about the both of them are on so without will Antonio zeppeli being an iconic Italian man the Joe Stars never would have have kickstarted their Journey down the path of defeating vampires and will Antonio zepley would go on to have a grandson whose name is Caesar Antonio zepley but we'll just call him Caesar now Caesar is absolutely an iconic character now Caesar's the deuteragonist of battle tendency and he just like his grandfather is a master user of Ripple and once again he like his grandfather is kind of relegated to teaching Joseph joestar how to use it now it's actually Lisa Lisa that actually kicks it into both of them but the relationship between the two of them is actually much better than the previous relationship between will and Jonathan joestar you see Caesar and Joseph appear to dislike each other but in actuality as they train with each other they get closer and Caesar takes great pride and Joseph's slowly becoming a better Ripple user until eventually both of them are viewed as equals in Lisa Lisa's eyes but Caesar truly submits himself as being an incredible deuteronagonist and one worthy of being on this list when he gives his life for Joseph see jjba wasn't always about stand it actually used to be about vampires and then it was about people called pillarmen and the pillar men were kind of vampires kind I mean they couldn't step in the sunlight but they didn't have like fangs and the entire point of battle tendency is that Joseph and Caesar needed to destroy the pillar men however at one point during battle tendency two of the pillar men are holed up in a massive Castle because it's daytime they can't go outside and thus Joseph actually wants to wait until night time because he believes heading in during the daytime the castle would be filled with traps and they would actually be anticipating an attack during the daytime but Caesar wants to prove himself you see the pillar man had actually killed his father who was actually researching the pillar man but when Caesar got too close to the pillar men as they were encased in a wall Caesar's father had to push him out of the way because the pillar men were able to grab on to people and suck their blood which led to Caesar being the unfortunate cause of his own father's death but it was obviously catalyzed by the existence of the pillar men so Caesar was out for revenge and so Caesar battles against one of the pillarmen known as WAMU and while Caesar does lose in this battle against WAMU he fights in Incredibly Close battle and as Caesar lets go of his pride as he's about to die and realizes that he has to trust Joseph to finish his revenge tour with the last bit of his strength he pulls out wamu's lip ring which contains the antidote for something called a wedding ring that is in Joseph's body see both the pillar men jumped Joseph before he was a master of Hummel and they placed rings on important arteries in his body that would slowly constrict over the course of a couple of days until eventually if Joseph didn't come to fight them they would constrict all the way and kill him Joseph had already gotten rid of one of the Rings however the antidote for the second ring was in wamu's lip ring and thus Caesar with the last bit of his life stole the lip ring put it in a bubble because his hamon manifested through Bubbles and floated that bubble to Joseph being the second of the zeppeli clan to save the life of a Joe star there's also a third zeppeli from the steel ball run universe but I I haven't read steelball run but as a blanket for all of our jjba friends out there the zeppolis moving to our list coming in at number 10 we have a pic that some people are gonna see is controversial because I just put the zeppolese one of the most iconic and beloved characters in all of anime history on the honorable mentions listen not number 10 but it's my list so I do what I want and thus coming in at number 10 we have kawaki listen stop booing kawaki is an interesting and compelling character and I will hear nothing from you on the topic listen when a lot of people hear the word boruto Unfortunately they kind of cringe because a lot of people who hate on boruto either tried to watch it or simply haven't read it and while I will admit the boruto anime isn't great I mean it's good as long as you skip all the enemy Cannon stuff the boruto manga is actually very good and one of the reasons that the boruto manga is as good as it is is kawaki so you remember earlier when we talked about how a deuteragonist is supposed to be the other side of a coin from our main protagonist hawaki is the perfect example of that see the reason that a lot of people couldn't find boruto's character relatable in the early days of boruto is because he wasn't supposed to be sibordo is born on third he's the polar opposite of Naruto he's born to the Hokage in the head of the hyuga clan for all intents and purposes he is royalty on top of that he was also born from two of the greatest ninjas of their time and thus is born a natural genius in all things Ninjutsu taijutsu basically everything and when boruto during the tuning exams goes on a character development Arc where he realizes that hard work's the most important thing there was still one thing that boruto was truly lacking that was a compelling deuteragonist see we have sarada who's incredible and I love her but she's unfortunately more of a love interest than a deuteragonist and it doesn't take anything away from sarada's characters surprisingly in fact within the confines of boruto I find Sarah to probably to be one of the most compelling characters top two with the first being kawaki but fortunately for sarada her journey isn't actually entirely dependent on boruto like a deuteragonists would be she's more so supposed to represent the ending of the cycle of hatred than anything and thus her role in the story is actually to show how the Uchiha Clan has evolved Beyond hatred however kawaki is 100 boruto's deuteragonist and we could have hypothesized that especially considering the fact that the first page in the first episode show boruto and kawaki battling over a destroyed konowa but the reason that kawaki is boruto's perfect deuteragonist is because he's his exact opposite sikowaki is actually much more similar to Naruto than boruto is see kawaki was born in a Podunk Backwoods Village to an alcoholic father and then forced him to work all day and use the wages that he got from working all day to buy him booze and only after kawaki's father had gotten nice and drunk could kawaki eat however one day after kawaki got in a scuffle with a couple of kids from his town and they broke the bottle of alcohol he was bringing to his father kawaki's father was propositioned by jegan to buy kawaki and thus geegen bought kawaki but not because he wanted a better life for kawaki no because he wanted to implant Takara marking on him which would most likely kill him as it had killed dozens if not hundreds of children prior however kawaki didn't die kawaki actually had the karma seal implanted on him which is actually worse than dying because after ishiki realized that kawaki was his only true chance at fully reincarnating he decided to train him and train him hard that is to say that he decided to physically and mentally abuse him every day of his life and what did kawaki have to look forward to one day becoming ishiki it is truly the worst existence you can imagine which is why kawaki can be kind of a complex character see kawaki would go on to some would escape from mishiki's grasp and eventually end up in konawa where Naruto took him in under his wing watching kawaki interact with a healthy family Dynamic and try and figure out what love truly means to him is actually one of the more compelling subplots all throughout boruto especially when you consider the fact that boruto by and large takes his family for granted which obviously as time progresses borto does less and less but this is largely due to kawaki joining his family as boruto has to teach kawaki how to operate within the confines of a loving family and then watching kawaki get addicted to this feeling of being loved and wanting to make sure that nobody who loves him is ever hurt again and identifying that the soul thing that can hurt the people he loves is otsutsuki and thus making kawaki singularly focused on destroying all odsutsuki on Earth even if one of them is his brother boruto is a really compelling look into what abuse can do to somebody as the concept of Love is a relatively new thing to kawaki but the concept of loss is not and therefore in order to to avoid a feeling that he knows very well he has to do whatever he can to hold on to love but because he's never known love before he doesn't know how to hold on to it in a healthy way and therefore he has to go back to the violence in which he was raised with and watching the difference between a love starved child in kawaki and a child raised with all the love in the universe in boruto Clash over keeping their family as one is actually really compelling as kawaki represents what Naruto could have become while boruto represents everything that Naruto wishes he had so if you don't believe that kawaki belongs on this list I'm sorry I disagree but enough about kawaki let's move to our number nine spot because coming in at number nine we have genos now this also might be an unpopular pick because a fair amount of people find Geno somewhat disinteresting mostly because we don't know as much about him as we do some of the other deuteragonists on this list but it's more because of the nature of how one punch man is told and honestly for a long time I felt the same way see basically all that we know about Janos is that when he was young The Village he lived in was wiped out by a cyborg and therefore he's dedicated his life to getting strong enough to one day find and kill said Cyborg and while that idea might sound a little Bland it's pretty much your basic Revenge plot the situations that this Revenge plot places genos in are actually very interesting to me see obviously the main character of one punch man is saitama or one punch man but the person that's with saitama more than anybody else is genos because Janos became saitama student but unfortunately for Janos this means that genos has to live with the inferiority complex of being close to Siteman understanding his true power and one could argue that genus is pretty much the only person who truly understands how powerful saitama is which makes the juxtaposition between their two ranks within hero Society all the more interesting as Janos as the demon cyborg is an S-Class hero and has been pretty much since he was introduced to the store however saitama on the other hand while in the manga he is now Class A I believe starts out as Class C or maybe even class D and thus genos has to live with the fact that he is a higher rank in the heroes Society than his master who he knows is insurmountably stronger than him and this is something that genus has to go through over and over and over again see not only is Geno's constantly reminded of the fact that his master is stronger than he will ever be pretty much every single fight that Janus ends up in he loses whether it be a battle against Elder centipede Garo or just a mosquito woman genos really can't take a dub however fortunately for Janos every time he loses he can always go back to Dr cusino and get new and shiny upgrades and thus every single time that genos loses he gets stronger technically but every single time genos loses he realizes that he's not strong enough and that he may never be strong enough which is cemented by the fact that he's constantly saved by his master who keeps one punching all of the opponents who are destroying him and thus genus more than any other deuteragonist in history has to deal with the fact that the story is not about him which is ironic when he consider the fact that genos probably shares an equal amount of screen time as saitama in the story and thus the level of inferiority that Janos one of the top ranked heroes in the entirety of the one punch man Universe has to deal with on a day-to-day basis makes him a really cool character because more than anybody else on this list except for maybe Vegeta genos has to battle with himself mentally to tell himself that he can become more than he already is even when Society is already patting him on the back for the little amount of work that he currently does see genos is the Sisyphus of one punch man as no matter how close he ever gets a saitama the one person he wants to be as strong as he'll never achieve that goal and that's why I love him as a character but enough about characters with impossible Dreams let's talk about characters with somewhat possible dreams because coming in at number eight we have Zorro does eight feel low to you it probably does but I'd like to remind you that I am only starting whole cake Island I haven't seen wano I haven't read Egghead Island and as far as I know Zorro's not even in whole cake Island the real reason that Zoro is this long on the list is because there could have been a lot of other straw hats on this list see this isn't a bad thing from one piece at all that there's so many Side characters or so many deuteragonists but obviously if you were gonna say who is Luffy's right hand man who is his deuterocketist you would say Zorro but other people would argue that his relationship with Sanji or jinbei is actually better than his relationship with Zorro well obviously no one would say that it's Frankie or Brooke or Robin or Nami or Chopper the fact that there's other people who could very easily be considered Luffy's true deuteragonist kind of takes away from Zorro a little bit but this doesn't mean that Zorro isn't an incredible character he is he was Luffy's first ever crewmate a pirate Hunter who Luffy found chained up in ax hand Morgan's yard on Top This was Oro has it had the spotlight in a long time in the story at least where I am his backstory and what motivates him is very interesting tizora wants to become the strongest swordsman on Earth however in the early days of One Piece around the bratier arc Zorro bumps in to the strongest swordsman on Earth dracul mihawk who proceeds to absolutely undress him with just a dagger that he wears as a necklace and after losing to me Hawk Zorro proclaims that it's the last time he would ever lose because here's the thing amongst all of the straw hats Zorro is probably the most loyal some people rally against that idea because in anus Lobby Zorro threatened to leave the crew if Usopp was allowed back on the crew that apologizing but I think this is actually because Zorro holds Luffy to a higher standard than any of the other straw hats Caesar understands that Luffy wants to be the king of the Pirates and that he should be he was the first person to buy into that ideology however because of that Zorro believes that Luffy should conduct himself as such and therefore when it comes to commitment to the crew I really believe that no one is above Zora obviously there's the moment against mihawk but truly the moment that cemented Zorro as one of the best deuteragonists in history and definitely the best from One Piece wasn't until Thriller bark see after Luffy's battle against gekkomoria he has to battle against another one of the seven Warlords Kuma but unfortunately luffa doesn't have it in him to battle against Kuma and thus he gets defeated pretty soundly bakuma is a devil fruit user specifically a user of the Paw pawford it allows to take all the pain that somebody's gone through out of their body in the form of a bubble in Zorro upon realizing that Kuma has the ability to wipe out all of the straw hats with relative ease besides to take on all of Luffy's pain in a feat that probably should have killed him but instead of making the moment about himself or trying to take credit for this heroic act Zorro instead delivers one of the hold this line to anime history nothing happened see in this moment Zorro cemented himself as somebody who genuinely not only cares about Luffy but the entire Straw Hat crew and as the straw Hat's first mate it was his responsibility when Luffy was unconscious to make sure that everybody got out safe and Zoro shows multiple times that he's willing to swallow his pride and put his life on the line for the safety of the crib but also for the further mint of his goal see after Thriller bark Zorro was sent to me Hawk's Island and on this island Zorro begs dracul mihawk the strongest swordsman on Earth the one person that Zorro has to defeat to train him not only suzoro can become the greatest swordsman on Earth but also so Zorro can defend his crew see that's the beauty of Zorro's character while he never loses sight of his individual dream he adapts his dream to fit the needs of the crew and while one could argue that every single member of the crew does some variation of this I believe that Zorro has gone through the most for the furthermen of that dream for the sake of the crypt and thus well many members of the straw hats could have been added to this list I believe that Zora was the most deserving and maybe that point will be corroborated or broken down the further I make it into one piece but until I get there I can't know you know what I can know though the fact that I'm not excited about this next entry because coming in at number seven we have Sasuke what Sasuke number seven that's the greatest deuteronomist of all time you should be happy I even put him on this list in the first place see yes when it comes down to conversations around the greatest deuteragonists of all time Sasuke is pretty ever present in the conversation unfortunately but if I was to take my own personal bias of hating Sasuke and completely reject the fact that he is one of the most prolific deuteronus in anime history that would be a disservice to not only you but me as a page see Sasuke well he is one of my least favorite characters in anime history is absolutely iconic see when it comes down to importance to a story Sasuke's importance is highly debated see because while many could say that the story of Naruto is about getting Sasuke back I could make the argument pretty easily that they forget that plot line pretty early on see Sasuke is absolutely pivotal in part one of Naruto you could say that he's involved in every aspect of the story sorry I have an 80 pound pit bull being a drama queen about the fact that he doesn't fit in my lap see in part one of Naruto's Sasuke is introduced as a child genius the only child left from a prestigious clan of dojutsu wielders and while he's angst the and annoying and very clearly Naruto's rival he is an interesting character he protects Naruto multiple times during the land waves Arc he gets the curse mark in the forest of death from Orochimaru he uses this newfound curse mark power to break the arms of a man who's been battling against Rockley and Sakura he is for all intents and purposes the perfect rival for Naruto because much in the same capacity as I was talking about boruto and kawaki earlier Sasuke while he's not born with everything because he doesn't have a family is born with genius while Naruto was born with nothing and no genius and thus the story revolved around Naruto accessing his late and genius in Sasuke trying to leverage his existing genius however as Sasuke existed longer and longer in the Naruto Universe he realized something that the power of latent genius and hard work might actually be greater than that of given ability and thus the plot of Naruto shifts from protecting konawa to Sasuke kind of having a temper tantrum see after the konohawk cross shark Sasuke realizes that Naruto was caught up to him in pow as Sasuke could do nothing in a battle against Gara but Naruto won and thus another run with Hitachi where Itachi told him he had to kill his best friend to unlock the true abilities of the Sharingan and a streak of rampant jealousy made Sasuke realize that he might have to leave konawag to truly gain the power he needs to kill Hitachi but the problem is he does that Sasuke leaves the village and then exists in what 20 maybe 30 percent of Shippuden in Naruto proper Sasuke is an incredible deuteragonist arguably perfect he's a rival who gets jealous that his rival is catching the amenity of his power and decides to become the bad guy because of it however after leaving the village she becomes an incredibly one note character who we see every 50 or so episodes and while he does have some incredible battles it gets the likes of Itachi and donzo and Modera and his appearance of this Buddha are not only incredibly few and far between but every time we cut to him he's just this Broody angsty annoying brat singularly focused on either Naruto or Itachi who then goes on to achieve what he wanted killing Hitachi only to realize that that was a bad goal and therefore he chooses to destroy conewa only to change that ideology later and then changes the ideology from coming Hokage to killing Naruto but then changes that ideology to becoming the side Hokage to Naruto it's like four or five ideological changes in four or five appearances but people love him and he stirs conversation and when you think about a Cop protagonist in anime he's probably the one you think of but there are much much better examples like our number six spot because coming in at number six we have L now calling L A deuteragonist is kind of a weird spot because in actuality L is kind of the only protagonist well light is the antagonist of Death Note and therefore one could technically make the argument that the co-protagonists of Death Note are actually L and N well light is the antagonist the problem that they need to solve but the show and the [ __ ] read in a much more rivalry way than an antagonist in a protagonist way and that's kind of the beauty of Death Note and why it's good up to a point see if you haven't already got the hint L is the deuteragonist of Death Note he's a genius working with the police task with the responsibility of finding Kira and within the Death Note Universe he's pretty much the only person who can stand up to the massive intellect of light in fact one could argue that his intellect is far superior to light as L is trying to solve a mystery that light already has the answer to and considering the fact that light is the son of a police officer and therefore is privy to the entirety of the police investigation light actually has way more information than now see light understands that L is looking for Kira while L is simply just looking for gear and yet L still deduces that Kira is light and for all intents and purposes wins in this battle of wits except for the fact that light traded half of his life in order to get the eyes of the Shinigami and therefore he was able to find out what Elle's real name was and kill him but unfortunately Elle's death also led to the death of Death Note because it's pretty much a universally agreed upon opinion the Death Note gets substantially worse after Elle's death which is the mark of a really good deuteragonist see the most compelling and most interesting thing about death note was the conversation in battles of wits between L and light in fact the conversations are so iconic that they're heavily memed on places like Tick Tock with Abridged or dubbed over versions being like hey L you wanna kiss and L being like well if I say no he'll think I'm Kira but baba but you get it not gonna verbally explain a meme to you but after Elle's death we no longer get the best part of the show and a new character and his shoehorned in because apparently we've been trying to recreate l in some child's camp and this is the child that's going to catch light and eventually is and then like the loss of a character takes all of the steam out of a show that character is very important and thus even though L probably isn't the deuteragonist of Death Note and more just the straight up protagonist he definitely deserves to be on this list but speaking of people who move like they might as well just be the main protagonist coming up at number five we have Roy Mustang listen there are a lot of very good options when thinking about deuteragonists from the Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Universe Alphonse Roy Mustang even scar but of all the options it's pretty undeniable that Roy Mustang is the best choice see Roy Mustang is beloved for many reasons he has some of the most iconic lines in anime like it's a terrible day for rain his power system works in one of the most immediately recognizable moves in all of anime a bunch of snaps and when it comes to incredibly pivotal and borderline brutal kills Roy Mustang is your guy but that's not the reason that I've added Roy Mustang onto this list see well obviously watching Colonel Mustang absolutely eviscerate lust after she stabbed him and he seared his wound closed was cool and watching him get revenge for the death of Mace Hughes against Envy was even better you've just given me a bigger Target so good the real reason that I've added him to this list is because of what he has to go through and I'm not talking about the loss of a close friend see Colonel Mustang is a cog in the militaristic machine see for years Chrono Mustang has been one of the greatest military assets of the country that Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood happens in a mastrous and he's done this because he believed that the amestrian cause was just that the system in the government were operating with the best interest of humanity in mind this is why he was involved in battles and Wars like what happened in Israel wiping out thousands of people to further the amestrian cause however as time progresses Colonel Mustang realizes that he was fighting for the wrong guys see as we get closer and closer to the end of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Colonel Mustang realizes that his flame Alchemy had actually been used to shed massive amount of Bloods in specific spots to create a giant transmutation circle giant transmutation circle that would take hundreds of thousands of more lives all to create a philosopher's stone used by a man the colonel Mustang has never met Colonel Mustang had to realize that he was a part of a totalitarian fascist System created to destroy innocence to further the dreams of one man and as he realizes this horrific truth he has to battle against everything that he's worked for for his entire life to destroy the system that he helped create all the while being backstabbed by said system and losing his eyesight and helping the Elbert Brothers defeat father the man who created the system that Colonel Mustang once believed was just with a story ending with Colonel Mustang realizing that his flame Alchemy was an agent of Destruction and not something he still needed and while his flame Alchemy made him one of the strongest Alchemists in history and gave him the ability to avenge his lost brother Hughes it was a weapon of Destruction that he used to Snuff out the lives of Innocents for a cause he didn't truly understand and that is an incredible character who now that I'm looking at the rest of this list probably should have been higher it's fine I'm fine I that this is I this is my list and I'm confident you know what I'm gonna possumously put Roy Mustang up one slot he's actually number four a real number five spot goes to our previously number four spot you know now you know is the deuteragonist from Black Clover now I can already hear you going oh but you know just the hollow copy of Sasuke and Black Clover is just a hollow copy of Naruto no it isn't read or watch both of these anime genuinely and tell me that they're the same thing they are vastly different well at an incredibly surface level you know might seem like a hollow copy of Sasuke he's much more than that sure he's brooding and he was born a genius and he has black hair but that's pretty much where the connections end he has no obsessive Revenge plot sure he's an orphan but not because somebody took his family from him well like kind of because it was more like an idea that took his family from him see to me you know is everything that Sasuke could have been to me yuno is Sasuke if Sasuke never left the villa let me explain so obviously you know and Austin's rivalry starts from the moment they were born basically as both of them were dropped out of church in Hodge Village and were raised as orphans and as they're both roughly the same age and showed up at the church at the same time they were raised kind of like brothers however you know was the exact opposite of Asta while Asta was born with no magic whatsoever you know was blessed by Magic now it's later revealed that yuno is blessed by Magic because he comes from the royal family of the Spade Kingdom the old royal family of the Spade Kingdom in royal families in the Black Clover Universe are more blessed by Magic than common folk and thus when it came to getting a grimoire Yuna got a four clover grimoire which are incredibly rare and are only really bestowed to the strongest of magic users but before they leave grimoire that yuno got when he turned 15 didn't actually give him his Royal Family's magic attribute it gave him wind magic however Yono doesn't stop at wind magic as when it's revealed later on in the manga that Yuna was a member of the old royal family of the Spade Kingdom the grin burial family that you know acquires his second grimoire which gives him star match and as you know one of the only people ever to acquire to grimoire he rises through the ranks of magical nights and quick in fact you know not only gains the title of grand magic Knight being the youngest ever Mage to do that he also becomes the captain of the Golden Dawn when William vonchen steps down more than that he's also the vessel for the reincarnated soul of leaked and tetia's son a half elf half human mage of incredible power and since everybody who was a vessel for the elves retained a massive amount of the elves power even after the elves Souls left them that was also a massive boost to his power not to mention he was also selected by Silph the wind spirit which means he's a saint stage magician but he's actually gone beyond that far beyond that now the reason that I'm sitting here and laying out all of yuno's accolades is because I think that the way that he was built as a character is actually really interesting see you know is obviously the polar opposite of Asta he was born with everything while Asta was born with nothing then the confines of Naruto technically Asta should have surpassed you know it made Yuna look bad as you know who was born with everything shouldn't understand the the meaning of hard work however that's not how yuno's character works so you know is born with a lot I mean he gets two grimoires but just because yuno was born with natural talent doesn't mean that he doesn't work hard in fact yuno works just as hard as anybody else in the universe Austin included and while that work may not look like a bunch of physical exercise you know absolutely busts his ass to get as powerful as possible and he achieves a ton of power because of that until eventually he is as strong if not stronger than the likes of austa and while a lot of other anime manga would make you know the side character who fights the main Baddie before Austin gets there and loses so Austin can save him that's not the situation with you now do you know is as heavily involved in the main battles as Asta or anybody else he's not Sisyphus trying to push the rock up the mountain trying to catch us to strength and always coming short he is a legitimate rival with Austin throughout the entire duration of the manga and has taken out some serious bigwigs with his most important fight being his battle against Xenon probably the strongest out of the dark try and you know defeats him now obviously Asta is the one responsible for taking out lucifero but that doesn't take away from what you know accomplished and that's the true beauty of how Yuna was written as a deuteragonist he's not some stepping stone for us to squish down on his way to the top he is a legitimate rival through and through who achieves just as much as Asta and on top of that now in the final Arc yuno is pretty much the only person outside of Asta who poses even the smallest amount of a remote threat against the likes of astroth in my opinion yuno is the way you should write your deuteragonist Naruto and Sasuke weren't Rivals they were trying to kill each other in their development hinged on destroying the other well you know and also have a legitimate healthy rivalry that pushes both of them to the upper peaks of their limits with giving them both interesting and compelling backstories and iconic battles there's no reason for Rivals to hate each other and in fact the best way to build character development and arrival is to have them around and interacting with the main character something we just didn't get from Sasuke so yeah you knows above Sasuke okay I don't care what you say but he is at number five Roy Mustang deserves to be above him which means we're going to three speaking of rivalries and Anime there's really no rivalry in anime more iconic than the one that our number three character is in Royalton because coming in at number three we have Vegeta see Vegeta is interesting because he rallies against a lot of the things that I literally just said Vegeta is quite literally the blueprint of the side character you roll out to battle against the main antagonist before the main protagonist sweeps in to save him and kill the main antagonist and sometimes it's it's it's tough to watch but for the fact that Vegeta was the blueprint to this kind of character and also because Vegeta's backstory is very interesting and compelling he's gonna be pretty high on this list see Vegeta is the prince of all Saiyans which unfortunately doesn't mean much when he consider the fact that Frieza killed plant Vegeta but that also makes Vegeta's character kind of interesting from the jump see Vegeta and all of the Saiyans were a part of the Frieza Force as Frieza alone controlled 448 planets one of those being Planet Vegeta however when Frieza realized that at one point or another the Saiyans could actually pose a legitimate threat to him he decided to destroy Planet Vegeta but Vegeta wasn't on planet and thus Vegeta and Raditz survive and Napa however upon hearing that Frieza has destroyed Planet Vegeta Vegeta begins a revenge tour against Frieza the revenge tour requires that he gets the dragon balls so that he can wish for immortality and battle against Frieza but unfortunately for Vegeta what he finds on Earth is another Saiyan and that's Saiyan who goes by the name of Kakarot goes on to defeat him in combat but not only is Vegeta defeated in combat his tail is cut off meaning that Vegeta has lost his connection to his ape side taking Vegeta for all intents and purposes weaker and now the prince of a dead race not only has nobody to rule over but realizes that the only other person he could rule over is stronger than him and thus Vegeta enters kind of a vicious cycle after his Arky decides to stay on Earth and join the Z Fighters making Kakarot his eternal rival but Goku being more powerful than Vegeta really gets to him and honestly it kind of makes sense because everything that Vegeta should have done first like super saiyan or defeating the main antagonist Goku did Goku acted in a way much more princely than Vegeta and as a man who was raised being told he was the greatest thing to ever happen to the planet Vegeta this was a shock and thus there's multiple times where Vegeta lets his ego go unchecked like when he allows cell to achieve his perfect form as he believed that his Super Saiyan form would be strong enough to take on anything that cell could create or when he gave his Consciousness to Bobby in exchange for the Majin power boost and finally after giving over his entire Humanity to bobbity he was strong enough to battle against Goku only to be undermined by a stronger foe in the form of boo but even after giving his life in a final flash he wasn't strong enough to wipe out boo and over and over and over again Vegeta attempts to be the man who saves the world possibly trying to make up for the fact that he wasn't there to defend his home planet from Frieza and over and over and over again life kicks him back down the hill at every corner Goku is the first to achieve a great feat first to achieve Super Saiyan God the first to achieve an ultra four the first to achieve Super Saiyan and thus Vegeta is stuck in this Perpetual race just the hairs breath away from reaching Goku before he increases the margin but because of this Vegeta is a more relatable character he's stuck with an unrealistic borderline unobtainable goal that he's always within inches of and because of this he's angry and he pushes himself to the extremes this humbles him and it teaches him humility and humanity and as he realizes his Humanity he vents that into more human desires like growing a life with Bulma while also growing a friendship with his eternal rival Goku he wants more than anything to defeat but never to lose and that's why Vegeta is an incredible deuteragonist but not as incredible as our number two spot homura akemi oh you don't know who hamara akemi is well you're not cultured then because hamara akemi is the deuteragonist from Madoka Magica puelli Magi oh you've never heard of Madoka Magica abuela Magi what are you doing with your life no I'm kidding it's an anime from like 2013 about magical girls but it's incredibly dark you should watch it it's one of the greatest anime of all time and it has one of the greatest if not possibly the greatest deuteragonist of all time a deuteroncus who falls into the categorization of could probably be the main protagonist homura uh Kami see hammerogamy for a large part of the anime appears as though she's the best bad guy in the beginning of the series she shows up trying to kill QB a cute little cat-like animal that grants your wishes so long as you become a magical girl sounds awesome why wouldn't we do that until eventually it's revealed that kyubi is actually evil and has been tricking all of these girls into becoming magical girls the further its own cause and that Homer is actually trying to save the main character and her best friend from a Time Loop that they've all been stuck in a couple dozen times see it's revealed to us throughout the duration of Madoka Magica boyley Magi that hamura has been pretty much the main character there are two kind of standard magical girls in this timeline and that's Madoka the main character and the girl who teaches her mommy and these two magical girls befriend homura they're the only people who have ever been nice to her and thus hamura becomes kind of obsessed with Madoka specifically as Madoka is really the first person who's ever been nice to her and is therefore kind of her first friend however because being a magical girl at least in this universe is very scary and hard hamara has to watch Madoka die in front of her and while hamura is wishing that she could go back in time I'm in save Madoka she gets time powers that allow her to go back in time now the problem is that there's this witch witches are the things that the magical girls have to kill however if they use too much of their abilities they themselves turn into witches and there's this incredibly powerful borderline unkillable witch called walpurgis knock and this homura Madoka and Mommy tried to kill while purgus knocked many times however every single time hamura has to watch her two closest friends die having to be the one who puts them out of their misery most of the time and every single time hamura has to go back in time as she tries to save her two friends from a horrific death now the underlying tone of all this is that if Hamra gives into the grief the situation and clouds the thing that makes her a magical girl she herself would turn into a witch which would pretty much signal the end of the world however hamura has to find it in herself to battle against walpurkus knocked over and over and over again even when the odds feel unwinnable however we're not privy to all these other timelines till much later on in the anime and thus even though Homer seems like an anti-social possibly bad guy in the beginning of the anime it's revealed to us that she has been trudging through blood guts in tears to save the two characters that she loves more than anything and thus it's revealed in arguably the greatest plot twist in anime history that hamura is one of the greatest deuteragonists in anime history but truly if you haven't seen Madoka Magica playlist Magik you should go watch it I'm sorry I just spoiled it I kinda had to talk about it in order to tell you how cool of a character hamara is but she's not number one because coming in at number one we got kilua oh yeah are you surprised the guy whose favorite anime manga of all time is Hunter Hunter chose kilowa well shouldn't be because for all intents and purposes kilua is one of the reasons that Hunter Hunter is my favorite Annie manga of all time when it comes to a deuteragonist kilua is perfect I would not change a singular thing about his character or his character development kilua is a perfect foil to go in legitimately so many ways it's borderline tough to explain like obviously on a baseline level ever can be like oh goings pure and kilo was evil it is so much deeper than that their Journeys while parallel are actually constantly dividing see kilowatt is born a monster however he finds his Humanity through his friendship with gum but gone is born a human who slowly but surely turns into a monster because of the world events that are affecting him however kilowatt as a child who was raised a monster is constantly trying to Shield gone from this reality with a great example of this being what he does during the heavens Arena where he threatens to kill the three people that are teaming up on him and gone to farm wins and thus kilowall represents the level of brutality necessary to succeed in the hunter hunter universe and thus he's acting as a shield from the real brutality of the universe foregone because gone is his ray of sunshine bonus's massive humanizing entity that he puts on a pedestal and he wants to keep clean at all costs and thus kilo actually keeps a lot of the darker and more murderous parts of himself at Bay because he wants going to be his best friend and that's because he's suppressing the monsterized part of himself the childlike Joy part of himself comes out as he gets to live a somewhat normal life with gum not to mention that gon and kilowatt are the peak example of friendship in anime yes they're Rivals and yes they grow together but they care about each other they laugh they joke around but they also put their necks on the line for each other they learn men together kilua perfects then so they can protect go and he battles against incredibly powerful foes like yupi to give gun time but more importantly than anything and genuinely something you won't see from many of the people on this list gone is the most important thing on earth to kilowatt outside of maybe aluka and kilua would stop at no length to make sure that gon was okay this is symbolized in so many ways but I think genuinely the coolest and most important way that it's symbolized is that when kilowatt is rushing after gone as gon is Jaja kenning pito's face into mush for the first time in the entire Show's history we hear his footsteps which will some will see on a base level as kilo off for the first time in his life being so afraid that he doesn't mask his footsteps but actually if you take it one step further it's actually a symbolization of the humanization that Kila was gone through by becoming close to gone as in that moment he's the most human he's ever been as he's not concerned about power or money or politics he's only concerned about oh and as he steps into this Humanity he steps out of the monsterization that he went through as a child the monsterization that turned him into the perfect assassin killing machine and thus as he steps out of that in that moment of humanity we hear his footsteps everything about gone and kilo was on screen or in manga presence is perfect then playing during their 72-hour penalty in the hunter exam them battling against Nero to try and get the ball both of them figuring out Co and applying it to shovels as they dig through mountains in Greed Island everything they do they do for each other and while going Works in outright and bolster ways to try and protect kilo like kicking down the doors of the zoldick Mansion to try and get kilowatt back kilo operates in silence protecting gone from the true brutality of the universe and because of that kiloa is the perfect deuteragonist foil a rival and a best friend who's there every episode that is how you write a co-protagonist what do you guys think what would your top 10 deuteragonist lists look like tell me in the comments below and why you guys are down there please for me like this video subscribe to the page and hit that Noti Bell oh apparently when Nick makes opinion videos
